The first thing I noticed and liked was that they decided to use Baki's 2D animation and not Kengan Ashura's CGi 3D. It was a great decision and the result turned out to be very aesthetically pleasing. Besides, the fights were quite well animated. In this aspect I have no complaints.

The plot is very simple, Tokugawa, the boss of the subway arena and Katahara, the boss of the Kengan association meet in a bar and in the middle of a drunken binge they decide to organize a tournament between their fighters. Personally, I consider this plot to be just fine. After all, I think what we most wanted to see are punches, fractures and blood between these two series. The problem is that FOR ME, this was not done in the best way. The idea was very good, but not the execution.

Honestly, I feel like they wanted to do too much in too little time. An hour long is too little for what they tried to accomplish. For example, I would have liked to see more interaction between the characters before the tournament. I think the movie goes too much to the point and doesn't take the time to set the mood. On the other hand, some fights were too short for me, I was left wanting to see more of Kure Raian vs Jack Hanma and Baki vs Ohma Tokita. Not to mention that I would have liked to see more fights.

Something that I loved about this film, and that is worth noting, is that in a short time, they managed to generate a lot of chemistry between the characters. In particular, I really liked the interactions between Biscuit Oliva and Reinhold. Whenever these two appeared, I was prone to laugh. I was very sorry they didn't have a fight. On the other hand, Jack Hammer and Raian Kure are a match made in heaven, both of them are sick in the head. It was a great move to have a fight between them.

The ending left a bitter taste in my mouth. I wasn't pleased that the fight between Baki and Ohma Tokita ended in a draw. I got the feeling that the writers wanted to look good to both fandoms, so they didn't take any chances. Personally, I think Baki should have won.

On the other hand, Yujiro's appearance was very misplaced. I liked that he participated in the movie, but for me, the way it was not the right way. He literally came out of nowhere to say "hello, I want to fight".

In conclusion, I found the film to be average. I don't regret having seen it. I don't feel like I wasted my time, but I think it could have been better. I think it should have been 30 minutes longer, to carry the plot more comfortably, like the fights. I also think they could have put in more confrontations. And I didn't like the ending.

In the near future I hope to see a sequel to this movie. I was left wanting to see more fights between these series, like interactions in general. Besides, we were promised a confrontation between Yujiro Hanma and Kuroki Gensai.

  2. Baki Hanma vs Kengan Ashura: A Bad to the Core Crossover [ENG/ESP]@cjlugo758d

When I heard about this crossover I was very little encouraged, as it is a way to literally cross two or more different productions into one. I have never liked them, because elements of the original work are always lost.

In this case it was no exception, and being the director Toshiki Hirano who was in charge of the production, the less I called my attention, although he has his trajectory and recognized works in the world of anime, the fact that he is the creator of Baki Hanma gave me a clear idea of how this adaptation would be.

If I had to rate it from 1 to 10 I would give it a 4 at best, just because it kept a good animation and the original language was the same of both sagas.

As for the fights, there is not much to highlight, only 3 fights, and really very poorly developed, in the purest Baki style, no techniques, only brutality, a characteristic element of the original series that is not very appreciable.

In Kengan Ashura you can appreciate the beauty of the martial art, but in this series there is nothing of that, only blows from one side to the other, Broly's movie style in Dragon ball super, only bursts of powers without stopping.

    Screenshot 2024-06-10 at 17-02-00 (4).png

I definitely can't understand this kind of productions, they spend a high budget, literally, only to generate a low quality product, although for the audience they are aiming at maybe it has been a success, but in my case I expected much more, because they have material to develop something better.

The only thing I can argue in favor are the character designs, they spared no expense to keep them as they are, I applaud that because you can not lose the visual quality. Another point in favor as I indicated at the beginning is the audio of the characters, completely original, just like in their series.

The context of the film is a martial arts tournament between the two organizations, to decide which is the best of the two, but not all the fighters participate, but only a few chosen, the criteria is not shown, nor are the strongest, at least on the side of Kengan, but quite competitive.

I think that a Tekken-style miniseries of a few chapters would have been better, but in the end it was the director's idea. Of course, the foundations for continuity have been laid, so it's not surprising that they will continue to venture into this story with other types of fights between the two organizations.

    Screenshot 2024-06-10 at 17-02-00 (2).png

Lastly, if you like Baki Hanma you can watch it at your leisure, but if you're expecting it to be like Kengan Ashura, I don't recommend it at all.

    Thanks for reading

  3. Baki Hanma Season 2 Review@filotasriza31029d

    image.png

Baki is a very well-known action/fighting manga and anime that has been going on for many years. It's actually considered by many as one of the best martial arts manga/anime out there but i beg to differ a bit. Anyway, Netflix took the rights and had some seasons of Baki and thankfully the animation this time was great.

In case you don't know the concept of Baki, in a few words, we have Baki who is the child of the strongest man on Earth. His father killed his mother so basically Baki is seeking revenge and wants to acquire the title of the strongest man himself. Ofc this is not a difficult journey as he has to complete one training after the other and then fight in underground arenas against fighters with different martial arts styles from around the world.

Baki Hanma season 2 takes place after Baki has some victories under his belt and is considered one of the strongest guys on earth but ofc not stronger than his father. The season 2 breaks in 2 different parts. The first part is about some scientists discovering an actual human in ice that was supposed to live alongside the dinosaurs.

They managed to bring him back to life and they give him the name Pickle. Pickle was supposed to be a guy that was actually killing and eating dinosaurs so you can imagine his strength. In the Baki universe that means that the strongest guys around will try and find a way to have a fight with Pickle and compare their strengths.

This is something that's actually happening and ofc the last battle is Pickle with Baki. After that part ends the second part is all about the fight that everybody was waiting for and that's the fight between Baki and his father, but i won't make any spoilers though.

    What I Liked

    image.png

The animation was great and the fights were amazing. if you have never watched Baki though, don't expect every fight to make sense. A lot of fights and moves after a certain point defy logic but after a while you will get used to it as it's happening constantly.

Exactly because of that, the fights are amazing and something different that only this particular anime can offer. Ofc the voice acting was great, the Japanese version i am talking about as i never watch dub versions. Also, the story about Pickle is funny and interesting and the second part which is the fight with his dad is something that basically every fan of the manga/anime was waiting for.

    What I Didn't Like

    image.png

The only negative in my mind is that during the second part there are a lot of unnecessary stuff going on that basically drags everything too much. That makes it quite monotonous until the fight comes up. I also had higher expectations for the fight as well but i can't say i was disappointed though.

At the same time it's not an anime or manga that i am fascinated about nor it gives me something to think about or get excited about like other anime/manga manage to do so. For me it's something that i watch just to kill time, when i am bored and don't want to think about anything. Something that i can simply enjoy eating my food along the way

    My Rating 7/10

  4. Baki Hanma (Part 1) Anime Review@osakaghoul1637d

    Baki's Story Continues

Time to post some of the videos which ive forgotten to share with the Hive community. Got a bit of backlog i gotta get into - but thats all good. Starting off with Baki which still hasnt received its part 2 to end the climax feud between his father and him.

If anything this Part serves as a build up for next part that we are all waiting for.

After overcoming countless intense battles with powerful enemies, the time is finally ripe for Baki to face his father, Yujiro Hanma, who is said to be "the strongest creature on Earth." Before this battle, Baki chooses Biscuit Oliva also known as Mr. Unchained as an appropriate sparring partner. Oliva is currently incarcerated in a prison called the "Black Pentagon," home to only the most violent criminals. In order to fight Oliva, Baki gets himself imprisoned in the Black Pentagon. However, in addition to his desired sparring partner, a number of terrifying fighters also await him here.

This review may contain minor spoilers there and there. So you have been warned guys!!!
