No es un secreto que las producciones animadas que era parte de Warner Bros. Animation y que en esta nueva etapa son parte de DC Studios Animation, han recibido una gran aceptación por parte de los fans de esa compañía de historietas y es que la manera como han manejado las más de 50 películas que han realizado demuestra que con un buen plan se puede dar comienzo a un universo compartido, finalizarlo y comenzar nuevamente de cero, pero también demuestra que no toda historia debe estar relacionado con otra porque existe un tipo de producciones conocidas como "Elseworlds" la cual da la posibilidad de relatar diferentes historias de famosos personajes de DC Comics y que justamente en el último estreno, nos mostrará a la Ciudad Gótica en una época diferente, pero siempre defendida, vigilada por el Caballero de la Noche.

Con el comienzo del "Tomorrowverse" se ha visto que en DC Studios Animation se mantiene con mucha paciencia con respecto al desarrollo de las historias y justamente eso da la posibilidad de hacer dos cosas, primero que cada personaje que será parte de ese universo tenga su propia historia de introducción, lo segundo es el desarrollo de otras historias que no tenga nada que ver con un universo compartido y se explore de una manera muy diferente lo ya conocido de cada uno de estos personajes; justamente eso es lo que ocurre en este film el cual está basado en un comic el cual recibió el nombre de: "Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham"; en esta historia veremos cómo en 1920, Bruce Wayne mientras lidera el rescate de un grupo de investigadores en la Antártida, liberará una fuerza mística ancestral que parece que está ligada al pasado de Ciudad Gótica y al momento de la aparición de poderosos y extraños enemigos, Bruce deberá dar a conocer su alter ego que será el rostro que deberán enfrentar a quien quiera la destrucción la ciudad que es su hogar.
With the beginning of the "Tomorrowverse" it has been seen that DC Studios Animation remains very patient with respect to the development of the stories and just that gives the possibility to do two things, first that each character that will be part of this universe has its own introductory story, the second is the development of other stories that have nothing to do with a shared universe and explore in a very different way what is already known of each of these characters; just that is what happens in this film which is based on a comic which received the name of: "Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham"; in this story we will see how in 1920, Bruce Wayne while leading the rescue of a group of researchers in Antarctica, will release an ancestral mystical force that seems to be linked to the past of Gotham City and at the time of the appearance of powerful and strange enemies, Bruce must unveil his alter ego that will be the face that must face whoever wants the destruction the city that is his home.
En anteriores años, Batman como personaje tuvo la oportunidad de ver su historia, llena de tristeza, perdida, muchos villanos y justicia, comenzar una y otra vez, pero en esta oportunidad creo que es sin ninguna duda es la que más me ha gustado de ver. Este film está codirigido por Christopher Berkeley y Sam Liu, ambos muy ligados a otras producciones de DC Studios Animation, tanto en películas como de series de TV; en esta oportunidad hacen un excelente trabajo en el diseño de los personajes lo cual es primordial para esta historia, en la ciudad, la cual no importa en que época se desarrolle la historia, siempre existe un peligro latente en cualquier lugar y en lo que más me ha gustado, las escenas de acción; cada una de las características antes citadas es lo que hace que este film resalte en esta nueva etapa de la unión de DC Comics y WB. A pesar de que hay diferencia en el diseño de los personajes con respecto a los de "Tomorrowverse", de igual manera se repite el uso del trazo grueso para resultar los rasgos físicos de cada uno de los personajes, aunque repito, el diseño es lo que más me ha parecido muy acertado.
La historia es lo que más me ha sorprendido, no haré una completa referencia a la igualdad con el comic escrito hace 23 años, pero si de la influencia que tiene todo lo referente y conocido a la historia de Bruce Wayne/Batman; principalmente está es una historia de origen del personaje el cual como dije en la sinopsis, se desarrolla en 1920 y en dónde se hace referencia en las edificaciones, calles, vehículos y vestimenta, en especial a la del manto que usa quién será conocido como el vigilante de Ghotam; ahora volviendo al aspecto del origen, es justo decir que posiblemente está sea la primera vez en dónde se explora la locura que padece Bruce y a la vez el sentido de justicia que tiene sobre Gótica, pero lo más importante es el significado del legado que primeramente sus padres dejaron y que él deberá preparar a otros para que sigan ese mismo camino de hacer lo posible e imposible para salvar primeramente la ciudad Gótica.
In previous years, Batman as a character had the opportunity to see his story, full of sadness, loss, many villains and justice, begin again and again, but this time I think it is without a doubt the one I have enjoyed the most. This film is co-directed by Christopher Berkeley and Sam Liu, both very linked to other DC Studios Animation productions, both in movies and TV series; In this opportunity they do an excellent job in the design of the characters which is primordial for this story, in the city, which no matter in which era the story takes place, there is always a latent danger in any place and in what I liked the most, the action scenes; each one of the above mentioned characteristics is what makes this film stand out in this new stage of the union of DC Comics and WB. Although there is a difference in the design of the characters with respect to those of "Tomorrowverse", in the same way the use of thick strokes is repeated to result in the physical features of each of the characters, although I repeat, the design is what I found most successful.
The story is what surprised me the most, I won't make a complete reference to the equality with the comic book written 23 years ago, but the influence that has everything related and known to the history of Bruce Wayne/Batman; mainly this is an origin story of the character which as I said in the synopsis, takes place in 1920 and where reference is made in the buildings, streets, vehicles and clothing, especially the cloak that uses who will be known as the vigilante of Ghotam; now returning to the aspect of the origin, it is fair to say that this is possibly the first time where the madness that Bruce suffers and at the same time the sense of justice that he has over Gotham is explored, but the most important thing is the meaning of the legacy that first his parents left and that he must prepare others to follow the same path of doing the possible and impossible to save Gotham City first.
Siempre he pensado que Batman es quien es por cómo está obligado a luchar con sus numerosos enemigos y que así como observamos en el film dirigido por Matt Reeves, no importa cuántos villanos puedan usar, lo importante es el buen uso que tengan y en este film, casi todos tienen un claro y buen propósito; esto me sorprendió aunque seguramente en el comic tenga un mejor desarrollo porque está dividido en tres tomos y al ser esta una producción de tan solo una hora y media, lamentablemente cada participación es corta aunque es buena porque cumple con un propósito para lo que puede ser un mal mayor. En esta historia no solo están involucrados un gran grupo de villanos, sino también de aliados que por su brevedad en la historia, puede ser que no más que notorio, se sienta aburrido porque se pierde la oportunidad de que puedan tener un mejor protagonismo, pero nuevamente debí hacer referencia que la diferencia en el desarrollo de la historia, evita que disfrutemos más tiempo de estos personajes.
I have always thought that Batman is who he is because of how he is forced to fight with his numerous enemies and that just as we observed in the film directed by Matt Reeves, no matter how many villains they can use, the important thing is the good use they have and in this film, almost everyone has a clear and good purpose; this surprised me although surely in the comic it has a better development because it is divided into three volumes and being this a production of only an hour and a half, unfortunately each participation is short although it is good because it fulfills a purpose for what may be a greater evil. In this story not only a large group of villains are involved, but also allies that because of their brevity in the story, may be that not more than notorious, it feels boring because it misses the opportunity for them to have a better protagonism, but again I should make reference that the difference in the development of the story, prevents us from enjoying more time of these characters.
En términos generales, "The Doom That Came to Gotham" es un excelente film, corto, muy directo, con buenos cameos, pero que en mi opinión explora aspectos que la mayoría de veces se pasa por alto en los films basados en Batman, en especial lo que relatan un origen del personaje y creo que solamente el film de 1989, dirigido por Burton es quien demuestra que Batman no está muy bien mentalmente y es por eso que al ver cómo Bruce, sea por el motivo que sea, se doblega a la psicosis que padece, me resulta algo genial y muy bien hecho. Existe unas características que me llama la atención y fue lo lovecraftiano que resultó ser; me hubiera gustado que se explora más al terror, pero no hay duda que el uso de criaturas monstruosas es algo que pocas veces se ve en este tipo de producciones y que posiblemente sea difícil ver en las versiones de acción-real y es por eso que ver eso en este tipo de producción y con un personaje que no tiene superpoderes hizo que me gustará mucho más. A pesar de no ser parte de algún multiverso, me gustaría que se desarrolle aún más la historia de este film y es que al usar a Gótica cómo personaje, sin ser la representación de "La Damisela en Peligro", creo que es una grata decisión porque siempre me he preguntado el porqué hay que salvar a ese lugar y en esta oportunidad dan una respuesta que puede funcionar en otras historias; es por eso que si por casualidad conocen la historia de Batman y quieren ver algo con alguien que otra diferencia, pueden ver este film el cual es muy bueno, mejor que otras producciones de héroes estrenadas en el cine.
Overall, "The Doom That Came to Gotham" is an excellent film, short, very direct, with good cameos, but in my opinion explores aspects that most of the time are overlooked in films based on Batman, I think that only the 1989 film, directed by Burton is the one who shows that Batman is not very well mentally and that's why seeing how Bruce, for whatever reason, bends to the psychosis he suffers, I find something great and very well done. There are a few characteristics that caught my attention and it was how Lovecraftian it turned out to be; I would have liked to see more exploration of horror, but there is no doubt that the use of monstrous creatures is something that is rarely seen in this type of productions and that is possibly difficult to see in the live-action versions and that is why seeing that in this type of production and with a character that does not have superpowers made me like it much more. Despite not being part of some multiverse, I would like to see the story of this film developed even more and by using Gotham as a character, without being the representation of "The Damsel in Distress", I think it's a good decision because I've always wondered why that place needs to be saved and in this opportunity they give an answer that can work in other stories; that's why if you happen to know the history of Batman and want to see something with a difference, you can see this film which is very good, better than other hero productions released in the cinema.
