If your looking for a fantasy love story from the wild west I could think of no better movie. This is a movie that depicts how bitter yet sweet love could be given the circumstances.
Plot
Ethan Lawson wants nothing more than to leave his small (both in size and mind) town of Gatlin and go to college in the city. That is until he meets Lena Duchannes, the girl of his dreams learning her secret, he tries to protect her love.
Personally, I think this is one of the best love stories I've ever watched. It makes me remember Beauty and the Beast for reasons I can't truly understand😂. The entire 2h 4m of the film is a blast and the storyline is one of the best there is. The Casters, a strong clan of primordial magical beings are troubled by a strange phenomenon, during your adolescence just before you turn 16 you have to be claimed, which means either going to the dark side or the light side based on your true nature. Yet there is an abnormality, a moment when your claim is known to take you straight to the dark side by a curse, the trigger being for a caster to fall in love with a human.
Ethan Lawson seems to be seeing a single dream of a girl, he banishes it as nonsense yet the same girl is sitting in front of him in his class. Who is this mysterious girl of the Duchannes house? Why is she in his dreams? Lina is quickly reaching her 16th birthday and she is nervous for what to come, she has to be claimed to the light side, she just has to the fate of the world might depend on her claim. Yet who is this boy that is so intent on getting to know her? Doesn't he know what he is getting into? "Be wary", I hear my uncle's voice in my head. I can't slip now especially not with a mortal.
This movie is just the movie adaptation of the already written and published 2009 novel Beautiful Creatures by authors Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. I have to say that Richard LaGravenese did a fine job of bringing the magic depicted in the novel alive in the film. From the chemistry of Ethan and Lena played by Alden Ehrenreich and Alice Englart respectively was well felt. Although most of the special effects used would be laughable in this time, the passion put into the film by the cast would leave you well satisfied. One thing I can ensure you is that this 2013 fantasy romance would leave you in a state of wonder for the world around you.
