At the beginning of the 19th century when the great economic depression hit the USA, a couple Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow terrorised private banks and society in general by carrying out a wave of robberies and murders that led them to make headlines and be the most wanted by the authorities of the time.

This is a review of the new version of the Bonnie and Clyde story, because many films have been made over the course of a century and even in other languages such as Italian. Although it is a film based on real events, fiction is immersed in this version with a script narrated by the protagonist, the character of Clyde who died in 1932.

Esta es una reseña de la nueva versión de la historia de Bonnie y Clyde, porque han salido muchas películas a lo largo de un siglo e incluso en otros idiomas como el italiano. Aunque es una película basada en hechos reales, la ficción está inmersa en esta versión con un guion narrado por el protagonista, el personaje de Clyde fallecido en 1932.

Plot

Clyde is a young man who was born into a humble family and who from an early age had premonitions that came true in the future, such as an encounter with love and bloody and violent events. When he was a child and was ill with a high fever he saw Bonnie's face and fell in love, when he became a man he recognised Bonnie as the woman in his visions precisely on the day she married another man, also in his childhood while running away from stealing some chickens he saw his brother being shot in the head, all these visions turned out to be premonitions that manifested themselves in his life and are a resource used by the scriptwriter in this new version.

The narrator of the story is Clyde himself, who is shown as a good young man and his only ambition was to have this beautiful woman (Bonnie). Long before he met her he had already got into some trouble with the law for petty theft, encouraged by his brother, and was repeatedly imprisoned. Clyde upon learning that Bonnie had been abandoned by her husband, decided to take a leap of faith and present himself at her house as a wealthy man, dazzling Bonnie.

On the other hand, she was a young woman who had grown up with the dream of being famous, she applied insistently to the film industry and was rejected and like any woman wanted to enjoy luxuries, travel and good life, promises that Clyde made to her, but that she could not fulfill if she was in prison, so Bonnie helped him to escape and from there they moved to the dark side of crime, robberies and murders. Bonnie found in Clyde a partner who would do anything to keep her happy and satisfy her needs, so she seduced him and cunningly influenced his decisions.

Siendo un niño y estando enfermo con fiebre alta vio el rostro de Bonnie y quedó enamorado, al hacerse hombre reconoció a Bonnie como la mujer de sus visiones justamente el día en que ella se casaba con otro hombre, también en su infancia mientras huía al robar unas gallinas vio cómo le disparaban a su hermano en la cabeza, todas estas visiones resultaron ser premoniciones que se manifestaron en su vida y son un recurso usado por el guionista en esta nueva versión. > > El narrador de la historia es el mismo Clyde, quien se muestra como un joven bueno y su única ambición era tener a esa mujer hermosa (Bonnie). Mucho antes de conocerla ya se había metido en algunos problemas con la ley por robos menores, impulsado por su hermano, cayendo en prisión reiteradas veces. Although I have not seen the previous versions nor have I read the historical facts, I consider that the main characters of Boonie and Clyde were developed so that the audience would feel empathy for them despite the serious crimes they committed, firstly by showing two young men who let themselves be carried away by the passion they exchanged and the ambition for power, money and fame and secondly because deep down they did not want to do any harm, they just protected themselves and lived day by day.

Clyde is shown as a man in love, but in the end he became sensible and realised that the woman he loved was just an immature girl who was driven by her big ego and that in the end she was the only one to blame for all the events and their consequences. He loved her, but he knew he had to put an end to her existence before she continued to harm him.

Bonnie, on the other hand, is always shown as a naive woman who found the chance to be famous and to have her story transcend borders and time in a negative way, but in the end she achieved it by justifying the means. I liked how Bonnie's character evolves from a naïve girl to a cold, calculating, serial killer with no feelings.

The setting and costumes gave it that old time feel, but still perceived the story as fresh and contemporary, making it more appealing to the younger generation.

The resemblance of the actors who played Bonnie and Clyde is extraordinary, according to photo images and references, giving the plot a boost.

This version was a look from Clyde's point of view, letting it be known that his fate was written because his visions told him so. They were a young couple who, mowed down by their ambition, pushed the boundaries without remorse. It is a film that keeps the viewer entertained, it has a good pace and I recommend it, I liked it a lot.

> Aunque no he visto las versiones anteriores ni he leído los hechos históricos considero que los personajes protagónicos de Boonie y Clyde los desarrollaron para que el público sintiera empatía por ellos a pesar de los graves crimines que cometieron, primero por mostrar a dos jóvenes que se dejaron llevar por la pasión que ambos intercambiaban y la ambición de poder, dinero y fama y segundo porque en el fondo no querían hacer daño solo se protegían y vivían el día a día.  > > A Clyde lo muestran con un hombre enamorado, pero que al final se hizo sensato y que se dio cuenta de que aquella mujer que amaba era solo una niña inmadura que era manejada por su gran ego y que al final era la única culpable de todos los hechos y sus consecuencias. La amaba, pero sabía que tenía que terminar con su existencia antes de que siguiera haciendo daño. > > Por su parte, a Bonnie, la muestran siempre como una mujer ingenua que encontró la posibilidad de ser famosa y que su historia transcendiera las fronteras y el tiempo de forma negativa, pero que al final lo consiguiera justificando los medios.
