The pictures I saw of this movie actually made me want to watch it. They were well cut-out, beautiful pictures which told its own unique story.

Although "Breath of Life" initially seemed like an inappropriate title the ending completely changed my perspective. Even Elijah Johnson's self-reference as being older than anyone became clear to me during my second viewing of the film.

    PLOT

Overcome by grief and burning anger at the horrendous manner with which his beautiful wife and their cute daughter were gruesomely murdered right before his very eyes, when he tried to save his community from the menace that was Baby face, Timi Johnson, a staunch lover of God became resentful towards God. He avenges their death and proceeds to take his life. He fails and many years later is shown the Purpose...(the rest of the movie will blow your mind).

    REVIEW/INFERENCES

The cinematography was a pleasure, right from the first scene every picture was a great visual. The story itself is a great one, with lessons and thoughts provoking scenes and actions. Dialogue also ticked the box.

The narration helped give a more detailed view of the story and the characters, except that of the narrator himself.

I can tell you for a fact that halfway into the movie, I knew how it would end. I anticipated the story and it came out just the way I imagined it.

Nevertheless, I am fascinated with the execution of the movie and the idea of the storytelling. It will have you glued to your screen from the beginning till the end.

One of the beauties of this project is avoiding ambiguity, it's a good one. But, they left out some details to the imagination of the viewers, for example, how was Mr Timi able to penetrate the house of Babyface? Even if he sneaked in, how was he able to escape after the loud gunshot? Of course, a man like Babyface will have goons watching his house.

It's worth an Oscar nomination. All the cast delivered and it was a beautiful thing to watch. This project is in a class of its own, it has all the elements that make a great movie, and it's emotional too.

Screenshot_20240805_221300_VLC.jpg Lest I forget, the movie is from a Nigerian background, so, I expect makeup to close the piercing on both ears of Elijah or the cameramen/editor should have avoided close shots. The Elijah in the movie would not have pierced his ears (both).

I could have done a detailed review discussing a few FLOPS but then, I strongly recommend you watch this. Big ups to the entire production team, from the choice of locations to costumes, to cast (especially Eku Edewor) that was my first time seeing her.

I was particularly impressed by the exquisite elocution of the actors, which had a hint of British accent.

The movie has themes of love, faith, family, fatherhood, friendship and sonship. It was heart warming to see how Elijah, through patience, gradually brought warmth back into Timi's cold heart, replacing the sorrowful memories of his family with joy, while reviving his Faith in the process, just by virtue of association. The scene in church where Timi challenged Elijah to find the Bible verse he quoted was interesting as it showed that Timi's supposed opposition only made Elijah study to show himself approved.

Two very little issues I had. One was the spotty background of Elijah’s character and the second was Anna's room. The setting sort of deviated from the general settings in the movie.

The jump of “Boy to Son” between Mr Timi and Elijah gave me a pause. Their interactions were sparse, a little emotional attachment before that jump would have helped.

There was also a little meandering in the story and some scenes that raised eyebrows, like how did we get here?

Notwithstanding, plot progression flowed sequentially and the casting and acting was a hundred percent.

This movie cast a good spotlight on grief and the alterations it can make to the life of a person that has been swallowed wholly by it. It beams on faith, and the lack thereof, in the face of tribulation. I also like the conscious portrayal on the struggle of asthmatic patients.

The highlight of the movie for me is the sharp cinematography. Clean pictures to be precise. Plaudits to the writer as well. The writing of that final church scene with Wole Ojo was impeccable to say the least. I love the simplicity of the storyline. Not an overly larger than life tale. Just a slow, simple, emotional and beautiful narrative.

    Random Musings

Did Elijah really fry three eggs sixteen times? His rasping and breath loss moves were funny and frustrating in equal measures. Who chykes a Lady with Bible study invitations? Screenshot_20240805_233756_VLC.jpg

The movie I want to share with you all is a very interesting ànd inspirational movie. A Production of Amazon MGM Studios, released on the 15th of November 2023, this movie will keep you glued to your screen.

The movie starrs actors Wale Ojo and Chimezie Imo as the main protagonist while Sam Dede served as the major antagonist.

The movie is titled Breath of life, a catchy phrase that leaves one wondering about what it entails.

    Snippet of the movie

The movie began as a narration of Timi's life by Elijah who was now Timi Johnson's adopted son. Apparently, he wanted to share with all who cared to listen, about his adoptive father's accolades and achievements from his youth.

He also narrated how he came to know Timi Johnson and served as his "house manager" or should I say "house boy". He was obviously the only one who could tolerate the aggressive and insolent nature of Timi Johnson but he received backlash from his master when he was caught trying to revive the church.. something that was an absolute taboo to Mr Timi. You can't blame Timi Johnson unless you have passed through his kindo of loss. Right before his eyes, his family was burnt alive and he was helpless to save them. "He held a grudge against God".

To sweeten the plot, he fell in love with a beautiful damsel whose father was hell-bent on demolishing the church to build a hotel... something that Elijah did not want because he felt called to ministry.

Did faith prevail against the antics of greed and indifference? This is for you to find out.

    My review

I liked the fact that the movie intended to awe it's viewers by exaggerating certain points. For instance, they claimed Timi could hold his breath under water for 57min g and 18secs.. really??

Also the infusion of both British and Nigeria scenes gave the movie a homey ambience. The play of words also served as a comic relief and it wasn't forced which is a breath of fresh air from the usuals.

The move from a recluse to rediscovery by Timi Johnson was quite touching, coupled with his enormous sacrifice to Elijah made the movie endearing.

This is a movie about loss, grief, anger, faith and purpose. An ideal watch for the weekend.

  3. Movie Review: Breath of Life@the-lead916d

I was going around Twitter, and I have been seeing this movie around, but I never knew I had it among the movies I downloaded recently on my phone. This movie is titled "Breathe of Life.". This movie has been trending so much, but I just decided to check my gallery, and to my surprise, I saw it, decided to watch it, and thought to give a review about it today.

    image.png Source

Breath of Life was released in the year 2023 not long ago, and I believe it is part of the movie that will entertain the audience for the rest of the year because of its attractive storyline. This movie was directed by BB Sasore and written by Bibi Sasore. This movie contains the genres of drama, love, romance, rage, comedy, faith, and lots more.

    About the movie

This movie talks about a man named Mr. Timi, whose name is Wale Ojo. He was a vibrant pastor known around the town for his faith and trust in God and how he made people happy, both the young and the old. His wife and only daughter were killed in a brutal attack that was between Wale Ojo and the baby fire, who is a notorious killer who has terrorized the town.

    image.png Source

This attack was triggered by the way Mr. Timi stood to testify against him in court, but the court could not penalize the baby fire because there was no evidence, and then he went after Wale Ojo and his family. After the deaths of his wife and daughter, he tried to kill himself several times, but he did not die. He became too full of rage and very brutal, and he lived with his scar for about 30 years before Elijah came into his life to be his house manager.

Things were never the same till Elijah came in, and he had to manage and cope with the way of life of Mr. Timi until he saw him smile. This story touched my heart so well, and it was so entertaining because every part of it passed a message while you watched it. Some of the cast members that made this movie easy to watch are Wale Ojo as Timi; Chimezie Imo as Elijah; Genoveva as Anna; Tina Mba as Mama Ayo; Eku Edewor as Bridget; and so on.

    image.png Source

Talking about the movie's visuals, I give big kudos to the director because the images are so clean and lovely to watch. The capturing is so captivating, and that alone catches the mind when you watch. The movie lasted for close to 2 hours, and I sat down to watch it because it was not boring from the beginning to the end of it.

Also, how the flashbacks were shown made us so happy and interested. It got to a point when Elijah had to play it from a projector for Mr. Timi to watch, and he was never going to watch his family cry again, but instead, he would tell Elijah stories about them and other related stories.

    image.png Source

I love every scene in the movie, and some of the most spectacular things I love about it are the parts where Mr. Timi can avenge the deaths of his wife and child by killing the baby fire himself and trying to kill himself, but he doesn't die.

The shortcoming in the movie, which I believe is a normal thing for everything in this world, is how Mr. Timi got into Baby Fire's house when it was not stated that he used voodoo or the doors were opened. I feel it should have been stated in the movie, or probably a flashback of how it happened.

Rating this movie, I would give it an 8 out of 10.

Overall, the movie is very captivating and also a lovely one, which I can recommend to someone to watch if they are a lover of Nollywood movies. This movie will make you think while you watch it, and after watching it, it will still make you think about the movie because it will give you a lasting memory of it. I hope you will be able to decide if you want to watch the movie or not with this review I made.
