   What would happen if some states from the USA rebel again? The obvious answer is a civil war, but a civil war where the people is left by the government and with no more guns than sticks and some fire guns, offering fight against the "insurgents". 

   Actually, that's the premise of Cary Murnion and Jonathan Millott's film Bushwick. A premise that, at a glance, seems very interesting... But it evidences at the end that is poorly developed. 

   I mean, at the beginning of the film we see a girl named Lucy (Britanny Snow) leaving the subway with her boyfriend José; both looked pretty cute, very naive and so inlove, both going to her family's home in order to make official their relationship. Nevertheless, in two minutes happens a strong explosion which kills the poor José and leaves Lucy alone. The girls looks for help without a clue of what's going on; in the way she was about to be raped by two guys, but Stupe (Dave Bautista) came at her rescue. From that moment, both will join forces in order to reaches at their homes and get their loved ones out of the hurricane's eye.

   During the way to them, Lucy and Stupe find chaos; both, in fact, are looking for an answer about what's the possible reason of the guys in black's killing every helpless citizen. The answer was finally given by one of them: Texas  and other southern states want to separate from the USA.

   And what a way to achieve it by taking New York city, killing defenseless people... Or not so helpless but willing to fight for their home. 

   As I mentioned above, the premise is interesting because it rethinks a historical fact that happened from 1861 to 1865, adapting it to the modern times with some motives not so modern (racism and separatism) and exposing a popular neighborhood as a battle ground. But it ends there.

   I don't know if the low budget for the creation of the film or the laziness of the screenwriters of not polishing the script   and the characters in a decent way had to do with, but I felt that the movie itself could be very better if they would have worked more on the script. I mean, there are low budget movies which scripts are jewels, so why this movie in particular couldn't do it having a very good idea like this one?

   Should I recommend it? Honestly, I would but for pure entertainment on a weekend... Or just teasing the mother in law.

   P.S: If I were Batista (former nickname of David Bautista in the WWE) or I fire my agent or I change of genre. I'm not saying that he's a bad actor, but I think that he most step aside of the "action heroe" figure and explore another genres.

   Nota de la autora: Por alguna razón, no se ve la imagen del cartel del film. Una disculpa por la falta de una imagen representativa.

   ¿Qué pasaría si varios estados de la Unión Americana se levantan en armas nuevamente? Obviamente una guerra civil en el que el pueblo es abandonado por el gobierno y  con más armas que palos y algunas que otras armas de fuego, ofreciendo resistencia a los "insurgentes". Esa es la premisa del film Bushwick, de Jonathan Milott y Cay Murnion. Una premisa que a simple vista promete ser interesante... Pero que al final evidencia que ha sido muy pobremente explotada.

   O sea, al principio vimos a una chica de nombre Lucy (Britanny Snow) salir del subterráneo con su novio José; los dos muy lindos, ingenuos, enamorados, yendo a casa de los padres de la chica a oficializar su relación. Sin embargo, al cabo de dos minutos, una fuerte explosión sucede, matando al pobre de José y dejando a Lucy a la deriva. La chica, pues, sale en busca de ayuda, sin saber qué es lo que está pasando; en el camino estuvo a punto de ser violada por dos individuos, pero Stupe (Dave Bautista) llega a su rescate. A partir de ese instante, los dos unirán fuerzas para abrirse camino en el barrio neoyorkino de Bushwick con tal de llegar a sus hogares y sacar del ojo del huracán a sus seres queridos.

   Durante el trayecto, ellos se van encontrando con el caos; los dos van buscando una explicación sobre cuál es la posible razón de que unos tipos vestidos de negro anden matando a cuanto civil indefenso. La respuesta la obtienen de uno de ellos: Texas y otros estados sureños quieren separarse de Estados Unidos.

   Y qué mejor forma que tomar Nueva York, matando civiles indefensos... O no tan indefensos pero sí dispuestos a pelear por su hogar.

   Como mencioné más arriba: La premisa es interesante puesto que te replantea un hecho histórico acontecido de 1861 a 1865 y lo adapta a la época actual con algunos motivos no tan actuales (racismo y separatismo), exponiendo como campo de batalla un barrio popular de Nueva York, pero hasta ahí. 

   No sé si tuvo que ver el bajo presupuesto otorgado para la realización del filme o la flojera de los guionistas de no pulir el relato con todo y sus personajes aunque fuera de manera decente, pero siento que esta película pudo haber sido mucho mejor si hubiesen trabajado más en el guión. Digo, hay películas de bajo presupuesto cuyos guiones  resultaron una joya; ¿por qué este filme en particular no lo ha hecho teniendo una idea tan buena?

   ¿Lo recomendaría? La mera verdad lo recomendaría para pasar el rato o simplemente para fastidiar a la suegra.

   P.D: Si yo fuera Batista (apodo de Dave Bautista en la WWE), o despido a mi agente o me cambio de giro. Ojo, no digo que sea mal actor, pero creo que debe salirse del molde de "héroe de acción" y explorar otros géneros.
