El género del terror con todos sus subgéneros, se ha prestado para diferentes interpretaciones sobre sus historias, algunas o la mayoría tienen historias simples y esas son las fáciles de copiar o las que fácilmente puedan tener un reinició, también están las películas con una historia más densa, algo que sea más que tener una que otra escena de miedo, estás podrán ser también copiadas o reiniciadas, pero con un posible inconveniente y eso es el de mantener felices a fieles seguidores y que el nuevo proyecto pueda captar a nuevos fans; todo esto como cualquier proyecto dependerá de que si se haga o no un buen trabajo.

The horror genre with all its subgenres, has lent itself to different interpretations about their stories, some or most have simple stories and those are the easy to copy or those that can easily have a reboot, there are also the films with a denser story, something that is more than just having one or another scary scene, these may also be copied or rebooted, but with a possible drawback and that is to keep loyal fans happy and that the new project can capture new fans; all this as any project will depend on whether or not to do a good job.
En "CANDYMAN", veremos la historia de Anthony McCoy, un artista quien vive en Chicago junto a su exitosa novia, Brianna Cartwright, quién hace vida en el mundo del arte; Anthony no está en su mejor momento como artista y el círculo familiar y amistades de su novia se lo hace saber, esto hace sentir a Anthony como un fracasado y es por eso que por tanta presión decide indagar en una vieja historia llena de terror, una leyenda urbana que hace 20 años hizo cambiar a todo un urbanismo en Chicago, está leyenda relata que al repetir cinco veces al frente de un espejo la palabra "Candyman" la muerte encontrarás; Anthony sin importar las consecuencias de lo que pueda suceder, se adentra en una historia que podrá liberar el terror para todos.
In "CANDYMAN", we will see the story of Anthony McCoy, an artist who lives in Chicago with his successful girlfriend, Brianna Cartwright, who is an important personality in the art world; Anthony is not in his best moment as an artist and the family and friends of his girlfriend let him know, this makes Anthony feel like a failure and that is why so much pressure decides to investigate an old story full of terror, an urban legend that 20 years ago changed an entire urbanism in Chicago, this legend says that by repeating five times in front of a mirror the word "Candyman" death can be found; Anthony regardless of the consequences of what may happen, enters into a story that can release the terror for everyone.
En el momento que apareció este proyecto decidí solamente ver el primer teaser trailer, algo muy corto, con rápidas imágenes que te daba la noción sobre una nueva historia basada en esta leyenda urbana; me sentí atraído a ver esta historia por estar involucrado alguien como Jordan Pelee, ya que he disfrutado sus dos anteriores producciones cinematográficas como son "Get Out" y "Us", lo otro es que quería ver es que diferencias o mejoras había entre este nuevo film y el estrenado en 1992; aunque para esta película, Pelee no sería el director, igual tenía expectativas sobre cuál era la visión que tendría Nia DaCosta para este proyecto, este es el primer trabajo que veo de esta directora y puedo decir que es perfecto, las tomas son hermosas, no importa cuál lugar sea en dónde estén los personajes, cada una de ellas son impresionantes, DaCosta ha mostrado el cómo crear escenas de terror sin mostrar mucho, son escenas impactantes sin ser gráficas, existen escenas con mucha sangre, pero no es necesario mostrar las muertes para saber que horribles son, puedo decir que me recordó al film "It Follows" en el suspenso y el terror.
El guion es otro de los puntos positivos de este film, este fue escrito por Pelee, DaCosta y Win Rosenfeld quien ha colaborado con Jordan en otras de sus producciones; en un principio pensaba que este film era un remake del hecho en el 92', pero no, este film sirve como una secuela y relanzamiento de esta historia, esto puede ser un problema para quien no haya visto el primer film, pero en esta nueva historia se toman el tiempo necesario para poder introducir a las personas que descubran está leyenda urbana por primera vez, aparte de eso, se sigue con una historia en dónde es más claro aspecto racial y de clases sociales, aunque creo que esto se hace más profundo de lo hecho en el primer film, esto me gustó porque no se limita a mostrar solamente racismo sino como personas de tu misma comunidad puede denigrar y rechazar por tan solo clasificarte de que no eres como ellos, esto sin ninguna duda lo vi como nuevo y aplaudo de que se haya introducido en esta historia.
At the moment this project appeared I decided to only see the first teaser trailer, something very short, with quick images that gave you the notion about a new story based on this urban legend; I was attracted to see this story because someone like Jordan Pelee was involved, since I have enjoyed his two previous film productions such as "Get Out" and "Us", the other thing is that I wanted to see what differences or improvements there were between this new film and the one released in 1992; although for this film, Pelee would not be the director, I still had expectations about what was the vision that Nia DaCosta would have for this project, this is the first work that I see of this director and I can say that it is perfect, the shots are beautiful, no matter what place is where the characters are, each one of them are impressive, DaCosta has shown how to create horror scenes without showing much, they are shocking scenes without being graphic, there are scenes with a lot of blood, but it is not necessary to show the deaths to know how horrible they are, I can say that it reminded me of the film "It Follows" in suspense and terror.
The script is another plus point of this film, this was written by Pelee, DaCosta and Win Rosenfeld who has collaborated with Jordan in other of his productions; at first I thought this film was a remake of the one made in 92', but no, this film works as a sequel and relaunch of this story, this can be a problem for those who haven't seen the first film, but in this new story they take the necessary time to introduce the people who discover this urban legend for the first time, apart from that, it continues with a story where it's a story where it's the first time that people discover this urban legend, it continues with a story where it is more clear racial and social class aspect, although I think this is done deeper than in the first film, I liked this because it is not limited to show only racism but how people from your own community can denigrate and reject you for just classifying you because you are not like them, this without any doubt I saw it as new and I applaud that it has been introduced in this story.
Las actuaciones son buenas, siempre he pensado que varias películas de terror no hay que prestar mucha atención a las actuaciones porque al final no son para nada importantes, este no es el caso (como en grandes producciones de este género), en esta oportunidad podemos observar buenas actuaciones en sus dos protagonistas los cuales tiene importancia mientras la historia es narrada desde el punto de vista de cada uno de estos personajes, primero tenemos a Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, él interpreta a "Anthony", para mí en un principio es alguien con la apariencia de un ganador, tiene una vida perfecta, pero la sociedad lo califica ya de ser un fracaso, no solo en el arte, sino en la vida, eso lo transforma en alguien solitario y creo que por eso cae de forma rápida en un hoyo emocional que le será difícil de salir, me gustó la evolución de este personaje, como dije antes, pasa de un aspecto ganador a uno en dónde no la búsqueda de notoriedad podrá afectarlo mental y físicamente, transformándose en algo letal; del trabajo hecho por Teyonah Parris como "Brianna" su desempeño aumenta mientras su personaje va creciendo en importancia, ella toma el liderazgo del film desde la mitad del segundo acto hasta el final y creo que todavía falta más sobre este personaje, me gustó su interpretación de alguien que ama su trabajo, que ama quien es a pesar de tener una vida difícil, pero eso no la identifica, se cree importante porque lo es aunque por momentos podrá sentir que es más de quién la rodea y eso podrá hacerla reaccionar de forma muy tardía; para mí son buenas sus interpretaciones en esta corta, rápida y directa historia.
The performances are good, I've always thought that several horror movies we should not pay much attention to the performances because at the end they are not important at all, this is not the case (as in big productions of this genre), in this opportunity we can observe good performances in its two main characters which have importance while the story is narrated from the point of view of each of these characters, first we have Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, he plays "Anthony", for me in the beginning he is someone with the appearance of a winner, he has a perfect life, but the society qualifies him already as a failure, not only in art, but in life, that transforms him into someone lonely and I think that's why he falls quickly into an emotional hole that will be difficult to get out, I liked the evolution of this character, as I said before, he goes from a winning aspect to one where the search for notoriety will not affect him mentally and physically, transforming into something lethal; of the work done by Teyonah Parris as "Brianna" her performance increases as her character grows in importance, she takes the leadership of the film from the middle of the second act until the end and I think there is still more to come about this character, I liked her interpretation of someone who loves her job, who loves who she is despite having a difficult life, but that does not identify her, she thinks she is important because she is, although at times she may feel that she is more than those around her and that may make her react in a very late way; for me her performances are good in this short, fast and direct story.
Creo que si llegara a existir algún problema con este film, sería por ser una secuela de una película estrenada hace 29 años, lo otro es que este film de terror no es el típico lleno de muertes y con mucha violencia, debo decir que el de 1992 tampoco lo era y hasta puedo clasificarlo como uno psicológico, a pesar de ser claramente un slasher sobrenatural, lo otro que pienso de este film es que pareciera incompleto, eso en realidad no es una queja de mi parte, es que está película en realidad la tomo como un preámbulo de todo lo que puede suceder en un futuro, hay cosas, sub tramas que sirven para saber que vendrá en un posible secuela, un terror más aceptado por las masas, pero en dónde el tema social seguirá siendo importante. Disfrute mucho está historia, me gustó la forma de como la hacen actual, creo que en eso podemos observar un terror verdadero, real, lamentablemente repetitivo y que será difícil que tenga un fin, porque violencia, crea violencia, desconfianza, rabia, rechazo, discriminación y odio, esto último podrá ser el desencadenar justamente más violencia y eso es otro tema de esta historia, creo que esto es algo que ha hecho mejor este film del anterior, es una clara evolución que espero sirva para ser un completo relanzamiento y poder ver una continuación con todo los involucrados en esta historia, recomiendo este film y los reto a repetir cinco veces su nombre.
I think that if there were to be any problem with this film, it would be for being a sequel to a film released 29 years ago, the other thing is that this horror film is not the typical one full of deaths and a lot of violence, I must say that the 1992 film was not either and I can even classify it as a psychological one, even though it is clearly a supernatural slasher, The other thing I think about this film is that it seems incomplete, that's not really a complaint on my part, is that this film is really taken as a preamble of everything that can happen in the future, there are things, sub plots that serve to know what will come in a possible sequel, a horror more accepted by the masses, but where the social theme will remain important. I enjoyed this story a lot, I liked the way it was made, I think we can see a real terror, real, unfortunately repetitive and it will be difficult to have an end, because violence creates violence, mistrust, anger, rejection, discrimination and hatred, I think this is something that has made this film better than the previous one, it is a clear evolution that I hope will serve to be a complete relaunch and to be able to see a continuation with all those involved in this story, I recommend this film and I challenge you to repeat its name five times.
