Greetings #CineTV Cinephiles. Today, I'm here to share a super special post about a character I'm a huge fan of. I will give you my take on a story with two different versions about a witch who is half mortal and was very famous in the 90s and later in 2018. It's about 𝐒𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐚 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐦𝐚𝐧. And a warning that this post does contain spoilers.

    SepDesarrollo2025.gif

    1.png 2.png

And I had some time without sharing with you because I needed a few hours to catch up with 7 seasons of the first installment of Sabrina, The Teenage Witch, which I used to watch when I was a kid but then, right after the fourth season (when Sabrina goes to college), I just stopped watching it.

As for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, I watched it a few years ago, and to be honest, I finished watching it only out of obligation and because I consider myself a big fan of this character. This version only has 4 seasons, where it started with 11 episodes and was reduced to 8, of one hour.

    4.png 3.png

In this post, I do not intend to compare the series but to give my opinion about each of them individually, since making a comparison as such is like trying to mix water with oil. That is, they are different stories in vastly different universes.

One was made by director Nell Scovell, who only had success with this series, Monk and another one I can't remember the name of. The other is based on a comic book that belongs to the universe of Archie and his friends. Its director is called Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who is also the creator of the famous series Glee, which was characterized more for being a musical.

    5.png 6.png

For my part, I am not a fan of the work of these directors, only of Sabrina herself and her story. And this girl, half-witch, half-mortal, always had the dilemma of having to choose between two worlds, never living with the best of both to be happy.

In the 90's series, everything started very well, iconic characters that marked many teenagers with a great plot and very well carried out, however as time progressed and renewed a new season, a few main and secondary characters were being eliminated for no apparent reason.

    8.png 7.png

Doing a little research when putting together this post, I noticed that the change or absence of certain characters in the 90s series was due more to differences of opinion between the director, the producer, and the actor. Such was the most drastic case occurred with one of Sabrina's aunts, played by Beth Broderick, who did not want to participate in the last episode of the series to say goodbye to our beloved witch because she did not agree with her abrupt dismissal and that of many other members of the series.

And well, it's time to make Spoilers. The series of the 90s could have ended peacefully in the 3rd season, or maybe in the 4th. The truth is that the last seasons, especially the last one, were made in a rushed way, where the inconsistencies and gaps were left out to simply leave everything in the air without any explanation. This gives the viewer an understanding that there were problems between the production and the actor who left the role.

    9.png 10.png

In fact, even Sabrina's role felt forced in several of the episodes at the beginning of the fourth season, but because of Melissa's charisma, she lets it pass. Yet her ending, even though it had a sudden, abrupt, and surprising change, pleased me, as Sabrina chooses Harvey as her true love and runs away with him to live her half-witch, half-mortal life. Although, throughout the final seasons, they implied that Sabrina was choosing her mortal side.

As for the Archie universe version known as The Hidden World of Sabrina, I just didn't like it. I mean, I was pleased to see again my favorite character played by Kiernan Shipka who is a great actress who I am a fan of for her fabulous work, plus the resemblance she has with Melisa Joan Heart, this brought me a few Flashback from my youth to see again my favorite witch.

    12.png 11.png

From the plot, to a story that lacked sense in many aspects and adding some quite poor performances. First, Zelda I didn't like how she was played by Miranda Otto, who I am a big fan of as well. She played a role that was apathetic and lacked sympathy for her adored niece Sabrina. I got the impression that she was rather envious of her.

The actress who played Hilda to me was an insult; her performance was more like a mockery. Also, the creator of the series at one point included a few musicals as if the series was Glee or Riverdale, which made no sense at any point. Her story started very well but was developed very poorly and ended with many holes and inconsistencies.

    13.png 14.png

Showing a different Sabrina than the one I knew, choosing to do evil instead of good, making bad decisions to get revenge and what I disliked the most about the story was that they made her the daughter of the devil and all the worship they gave to the devil from the beginning of the series until the end. Plus, she chooses to be a witch, leaving all her deadly side behind.

It stopped the story. The next score I give to both series is poo it was bad here. I watched it out of obligation because I really disliked the subject matter but even more so all the inconsistencies and unexplained gaps that trque I'm a big fan of the Sabrina character, but if I wasn't a fan, subtract one star and you'll see that I don't recommend the Netflix one but the 90's one.

  2. Let's Talk About the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina@lucianav1145d

    💕 Hello Hive Community! 💕

    1.png

Something I have mentioned a lot is that I love Fantasy series, I think the less unreal the better haha, that's why series like Vampire Diaries, The Originals, True Blood, Fate and many more are the ones that catch my attention. Some time ago I watched this series, Sabrina, which was highly recommended to me since it is obviously one of my favorite series style, specifically it was a cousin who insisted a lot on me watching it because apparently it was pretty good. Although I saw this series some time ago, I had not made their respective review because honestly I did not love it much, I do not know what problem I had that I did not end up falling in love, but I do have many things to say and today is the day for it.

    2.png

The series introduces us to the life of Sabrina Spellman, a girl who is half witch and has lived all her life with her family (aunts and cousin, witches) while attending normal schools and pretending to live a normal life. When Sabrina turned 17, she would become part of the witches' world, leaving her best friends and boyfriend in the past. As typical teenagers Sabrina wants to continue coexisting between both worlds, at one point "revealing" her identity as a witch and evidently, humans end up involved in these matters. We also meet characters that will be important, such as witches who are quite unfriendly to Sabrina, a possible love interest, directors with a lot of control and also spirits.

    3.png

Actually the first season is not so interesting, it is a bit cliché in some decisions but with respect to supernatural events it is quite acceptable. Then as we move forward we see an improvement, Sabrina really gets a little more interesting, we are introduced to the world of hell, Sabrina's heritage, what she really means and also a darker side of the story. I really was a fan of this plot twist, I felt it was the right one and I found it quite interesting. Then with Nick and Sabrina making their relationship official, which I was a fan of, I didn't like Nick imprisoning the dark lord in his body, basically it broke them both a little bit.

    4.png

The finale of this season to me seemed crazy, Sabrina and her doppelganger, who dies at a certain point, were fighting against several catastrophic events that took everything to the max. This Eldritch Terrors thing was super intense, from bad to worse and ultimately The Void "won't stop until everything is destroyed" as they said in the series, which wasn't exactly the case but it ended with Sabrina dead. Yes, she died, but she revived in the future. Future that the series did not have since it was cancelled. The series was very good, but I didn't connect too much with it, although I recommend it, at least give it a chance. I hope you loved this review, see you soon!

  3. Domingo de series, hablemos de "El mundo oculto de Sabrina / Sunday series, let's talk about "The Hidden World of Sabrina".@actioncats1911d

    Bienvenidos a mi blog.png

    20200804_153359_0000.png

If before the arrival of the Covid and the quarantine we watched cable TV, series, movies either on DvD or Blu-ray, because being at home so many hours the frequency of it increased, I the truth I have not had cable TV as many of those who read, the reason long time I had to decide between one thing and another, priorities and was happy watching anime or movies, but recently my son tone a decision, acquire a Netflix account and thanks to him I can make publications of series and movies I've seen there, it is a vice, today I want to talk about a seríe I saw that is quite different from its original television version and is called "The hidden world of Sabrina".

    Bienvenidos a mi blog (1).png

I started watching it believing that it was just a newer version of the series "Sabrina the.teenage witch" that made me laugh so much in my adolescence, but I found something totally different, this Sabrina has its dark side, very dark, it is a strong series, depending on the beliefs you have and many things are raised that are not to the liking of all people in today's world.

The series begins when Sabrina is about to turn 16 years old, she is half witch, half human and after a ritual called dark baptism, she must leave behind her life as only a human, to join the world of witches and all their beliefs. There begins a series of adventures and experiences for Sabrina, her aunts, her cousin, her cat Salem and friends.

It turns out that for different reasons the devil wants to have Sabrina, I will try to say as little as possible to try to avoid spoilers, these reasons are discovered throughout the chapters, a woman who is the concubine of the devil helps him and tries to keep his share of power at the same time. On the other hand Sabrina only wishes, at first to continue with her human friends and her boyfriend, but due to a series of events she is forced to live a double life first, between her human school and the Academy of the Dark Arts if I'm not mistaken with the name of the latter.

So Sabrina, who turns out to be quite a heartbreaker, discovers at every step that she is a very powerful witch and manages to unite in certain cases to humans and witches because in the depths of her being she wants to always get her way, protect and keep close to those she loves.

Now my recommendation as a mother, for me it is not a series suitable to watch with children or teenagers who do not have enough maturity and/ or ability to discern, the reasons are varied, the devil is invoked a lot, sex is talked about openly, free sex without commitment, if somewhere they talked about taking care of themselves responsibly, I do not remember it for a moment. Not everyone can handle these topics and it is something that parents and representatives should discuss with their children and avoid confusion, this is my opinion as a mother.

Now back to the series, there are very emotional parts where love and family union are evident, as well as sincere friendship, where they support each other in good times and bad. There is a special chapter where they manage to unite some of the characters from the original series to the current one and it is really nice to see Salem in action again and I think it was also something deserved for those first people who filled us with laughter.

Obviously Sabrina and her family have enemies who want to kill them, so there is a lack of envy, intrigue, betrayal and plans to achieve it, but Sabrina in the company of her family and friends manages to find the strength and means to defend themselves. As for the costumes, atmosphere, actors, scenery, among others, everything is very good, now the plot although sometimes it is strong, from my point of view, keeps you attentive, well it depends on tastes like everything, I will not tell you much about the end of this series, but Sabrina achieves what she wanted to protect those she loves, both humans and witches.

    Thank you for reading.png

So if you want to see a series full of magic and with a strong touch I leave you this option. If you liked my content I hope you let me know with a comment.Hadta here my publication, so I say goodbye.

  4. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Review@filotasriza32726d

During the Christmas period and as natural i watched a bunch of series and anime. One of them was the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. To tell you the truth i remember myself as a kid watching briefly a cartoon with a similar name which in reality was the same as with the series. The only thing i remembered from back then was a blond girl with a talking cat, nothing more, nothing less. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a Netflix production (and that comes with some drawbacks as well) that came out during October of 2018 and has 11 episodes in total that are around 50 minutes each.

    Plot

The Show starts with Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka) a half witch that is preparing to celebrate her 16 birthday, which means that she will take the Dark Baptism, become a full witch and declare her devotion to Satan. The reason as you can guess that she is a half witch is that her mother was mortal and father a warlock and a very famous one. I previously said "was" regarding her parents because they don't live due to an "accident".

She now lives with her 2 aunts, Aunt Hilda who is a very kind woman known for her vast knowledge in potion and her not so kind Aunt Zelda (fun fact:played by Miranda Otto from LOTR) and her cousin Ambrose. Sabrina goes to a mortal school, have mortal friends and a mortal boyfriend. Now the whole big deal and plot is what Sabrina's final choice would be, Mortality? Witchhood? or something in-between?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybKUX6thF8Q

Pretty much that's summarize the whole plot. We get to see many substories along the way and understand the whole world of the witches and warlocks a bit better as well as see some pretty nasty demons along the way. Sabrina has to deal with a lot of things at her age, her aunts try to convince her that she should accept Satan and baptized and follow the footsteps of her father.

    What I Liked & What I Didn't

    Good Things

There are 2 things i liked the most in this film. The first one is that they have given a dark vibe in the whole show. In other words you can expect to see demon like creatures, jump scares and a lot of blood to be spilled. I strongly suggest to watch it during night. The whole witch thing worshiping Satan is quite entertaining to watch and also note that this takes place in 90s so once again the atmosphere is quite dark and awesome. The second thing i particularly liked is the cast. Each and single one of the actors are doing a pretty damn good job. Both the aunts are quite amazing as well as Sabrina and ofc Ambrose the cousin, although i have some bad things to say regarding the character , the actor portraying him is simply one of the best ones in the series. Finally, because i like to tell you everything, there will be a second season during 2019!

    Bad Things

What i didn't like was the stupid agenda that Netflix keep pushes forward and that is to use minorities,lgtbq-r and all this stuff into production that never had even the slightest indication of having those types of people in their comics, cartoons, shows. For example the whole Spellman family that we get to see are whites but cousin Ambrose is a black bisexual warlock. Not only this came out of nowhere but there is literally no point. It doesn't add to the character absolutely nothing, especially if you were a fan of Sabrina long ago!

Also, the second and stupidest thing is the Feminism wave in the film. They tried to implement it in multiple forms that once again add nothing to the series, more likely make it lose some credits in my opinion. To be more specific we have one of Sabrina's closest mortal friends who dresses as a boy, have a boyish haircut and the big athletic boys of the school made fun of her so what's better to take revenge on them by using some magic and create a girl's club. Also, somehow the witches have issues with the warlock because apparently the leader is a man and it should be a woman? Literally we get to see around 50 witches and 3 warlocks in those 11 episodes but still men are the issue here.

Imagine that Sabrina's father was considered one of the greatest warlocks that helped a lot their society but still we keep forgetting that and let's blame the men as always. There is even a line somewhere that the witches can control every man because they are woman and somehow have power over them with the stupidest line to be "even Satan is a man"

Forget about Sabrina the Teenage Witch and welcome Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. A true horror tv show.

If you've been following me for a while you know that I love horror movies. But, I didn't watch any horror tv shows because I didn't find any. Yeah, I've watched Stranger Things, but that show is more based on 80s nostalgia than on true horror. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina looks like it's going to be an amazing horror tv show. I'm sure that there are more out there, I've seen some advertisements on tv, but I don't think that every show that has witches, monsters and the devil is necessarily a horror tv show (I'm looking at your Supernatural). Nothing I've seen seems truly scary and interesting the way horror movies do. Looks like this show will change that. For me at least. I'm definitely going to watch it, are you?

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comes out on October 26 on Netflix.
