For the past few days, I have not had the time to watch a movie. So yesterday I decided to watch a movie when I got home, even though I was exhausted and sleepy. I had two movies on my mind to watch, which were "The Pope's Exorcist (2023)" and "Chupa (2023)". Picking the one I wanted to watch was easy because it was late in the night and I wanted a calm and peaceful sleep free of nightmares, so I went for Chupa.

When I started watching it, I had made up my mind that I would sleep off and finish the movie the next day, but I was wrong. The movie was so interesting that it kept me awake till the end. I must say, I didn't regret sacrificing my sleep time to watch this movie; it was worth it, and it was an interesting family movie that anyone would enjoy watching with their families.

Chupa (2023) is an American fantasy adventure movie that was distributed by Netflix and directed by Jonás Cuarón. It was produced by Street Pictures and starred Demián Bichir, Evan Whitten, Ashley Ciarra, Christian Slater, and Nicolas Verdugo. The movie revolves around Alex, a young boy who has recently lost his father to cancer. So he flies to Mexico to enjoy the holidays with some family members. During the holiday, Alex discovers a young chupacabra hidden in his grandfather's shed, but something awful occurs. Alex must now save the mystical beast.

Summary Of The Plot.

The movie begins with the story of a scientist, Richard Quinn who is searching for a mythical creature called Chupacabra in San Javier. Richard believes that the creature has healing properties in its DNA that will help improve medicine around the world. So his search teams were able to locate one in an old mine. Going after the creature in the mine, they saw a chupacabra cub. As they tried to gain its trust, the mother arrived and fend off Richard's search teams, and took her cub to safety.

Later into the movie we were introduced to Alex's life. A young boy who had just lost his father to cancer. We were made to understand that he was having a tough time handling the death of his father. Seeing his behavioral change, his mother persuaded him to go to San Javier to spend his holiday with his grandfather and his cousins. After much discussion with his mother, Alex agrees to fly to San Javier to spend the holiday with his family members. His grandfather Chava, picked him from the airport and brought him home. Alex met his cousins and he began to adjust to his new environment.

On Alex's first night in San Javier, he encounters a young Chupacabra cub and realizes that the Mythical creature is not as dangerous as the rumors he heard about it. Something happens and Alex realizes that the young chupacabra cub was in danger. Will Alex succeed in protecting the creature? Or will he fail?

My Review And Rating.

This movie was amazing and nice! I don't understand why it was rated low. I love the movie so much because it reminds me of what kids' movies used to be like. It's been a while since I have watched a decent family or kid's movie since I was little, from around the '79s to the '80s. Not only did this film remind me of culture, but it also reminded me of the significance of just enjoying something as a child. It is a good old-fashioned family film with heart, without the obnoxious pop music and loud characters that we see in today's films.

Let's talk about the plot. The plot is rich and well-written but with a few holes. The plot is interesting, wild, adventurous, and intriguing. If you like adventure movies, the plot of this movie will keep you hooked from the beginning till the end. Even though I was tired and sleepy when I started watching the movie, I was hooked from the beginning till the end. Nothing was boring about the plot of this. It was fascinating all through.

The script was well written but I had a little problem with the ending and how the characters were built. The end was a bit satisfying but should have covered more. Like, when Alex went back home, did he sort out his bullies' problems? Did he stand up for himself? But we did get that. Also, what happened to the people haunting the chupacabra?

The characters in the movie all performed well, except for the main actor, Alex. I felt and think he shouldn't have been used for his role instead they should have used his cousin's brother Memo (Nickolas Verdugo). Memo's performance was amazing, energetic, and fun and he was the life of the movie. I loved his mannerism and the way he stole the spotlight from the main actor. Alex, in some parts of the movie he lost his spotlight because of his dull and weak mannerisms. I didn't enjoy his performance at all but the rest of the characters did an amazing job with their roles.

The location for the movie was absolutely perfect. The ranch is amazing with a lot of history in the scenery and the old mines too. Then the visual effects were excellently done. The chupacabra looked so real and cute. The CGI was fantastic. Also, the soundtracks were selected well.

Rating this movie, I will give it 4 out of 5 stars. It was enjoyable, fun, and interesting. There wasn't a dull moment. This movie is an excellent choice for a family to watch and spend time together. I highly recommend this movie, if you love fantasy and adventure. If you have seen this movie, you should hurry now to watch it.

Hola querida comunidad el día de hoy quiero compartir mi reseña de la película nueva de Netflix "Chupa", una película que encontré por casualidad y que pensé bueno parece para un público más pequeño pero de igual forma llamo mi interés y decidí mirarla. Es una historia muy bonita y aunque está calificada en el género de drama no hay tanto drama porque supongo que si es para un público infantil no quisieron hacerla tan fuerte pero tiene un buen mensaje y muchas reflexiones de la vida.

Hello dear community today I want to share my review of the new Netflix movie "Chupa", a movie that I found by chance and I thought well it seems for a smaller audience but still it caught my interest and I decided to watch it. It's a very cute story and although it is rated in the drama genre there is not so much drama because I guess if it's for a child audience they didn't want to make it so strong but it has a good message and many reflections of life.

Chupa nos cuenta la historia de un chico llamado Alex, algo tímido y retraído en su escuela donde pasa la mayor parte del tiempo solo y un poco incomprendido por sus compañeros. Alex tiene descendencia latina, su padre que falleció era Mexicano y siempre amo su país y su cultura a pesar de vivir en los Estados Unidos. Un día la madre de Alex le propone ir de vacaciones por un tiempo con su abuelo Chava a México para que pase un momento diferente y pueda conectarse con su lado latino y también conviva un poco con sus primos Memo y Luna.

Chupa tells the story of a boy named Alex, somewhat shy and withdrawn in his school where he spends most of his time alone and a little misunderstood by his classmates. Alex is of Latino descent, his father who passed away was Mexican and he always loved his country and culture despite living in the United States. One day Alex's mother proposes him to go on vacation for a while with his grandfather Chava to Mexico so he can have a different time and connect with his Latin side and also spend some time with his cousins Memo and Luna.

Alex no está demasiado emocionado por irse a México pero lo hace por su madre. Cuando llega a México su alocado abuelo Chava lo recibe de una forma muy peculiar en el aeropuerto, vestido con traje y botas al mejor estilo de un hombre mexicano de los 90s. En el camino a casa de su abuelo Chava, Alex tiene un juego que era muy común en los 90s como los llamados Gameboy y lo utiliza mucho para distraerse, del mundo y del dolor que guarda muy dentro de su corazón por la perdida de su padre. Cuando llegan a casa los recibe su primo Memo vestido de luchador los cuales son muy comunes en México, un luchador libre. Esto llama la atención de Alex porque el no tiene ni idea de cuáles son los gustos y tradiciones de su familia mexicana. Su prima Luna es una adolescente muy audaz que le encanta escuchar música y se escabulle de vez en cuando por los tejados de la casa.

Alex is not too excited about going to Mexico but he does it for his mother. When he arrives in Mexico his crazy grandfather Chava welcomes him in a very peculiar way at the airport, dressed in a suit and boots in the best style of a Mexican man from the 90s. On the way to his grandfather Chava's house, Alex has a game that was very common in the 90s called Gameboy and he uses it a lot to distract himself from the world and the pain he keeps deep in his heart for the loss of his father. When they arrive home they are greeted by their cousin Memo dressed as a wrestler which is very common in Mexico, a luchador libre. This catches Alex's attention because he has no idea what his Mexican family's tastes and traditions are. His cousin Luna is a very daring teenager who loves to listen to music and sneaks out on the roofs of the house from time to time.

Alex empieza a pasar los días con su abuelo Chava y sus primos mientras se acostumbra a la manera de ser de ellos, muy alegres. En el fondo tiene un gran sentimiento de soledad, de esto habla mucho la película, la perdida de su padre lo ha dejado devastado y no sabe cómo manejar todas esas emociones que como joven siente. Su abuelo Chava lo ayudara a ver qué el tiene mucho más en común con su padre de lo que él cree y le demostrará todo el amor que sintió por su hijo fallecido. En la historia nos cuentan como el abuelo Chava fue un luchador libre y el padre de Alex también lo fue lo cual sorprende mucho a Alex.

Alex begins to spend his days with his grandfather Chava and his cousins while he gets used to their cheerful way of being. Deep down he has a great feeling of loneliness, this is what the movie talks a lot about, the loss of his father has left him devastated and he doesn't know how to handle all those emotions he feels as a young man. His grandfather Chava will help him to see that he has much more in common with his father than he thinks and will show him all the love he felt for his deceased son. In the story we are told how grandfather Chava was a wrestler and Alex's father was also a wrestler, which surprises Alex a lot.

Pero la historia de esta película no se enfoca solo en una familia Mexicana, sino que también habla del famoso chupacabras, una historia muy famosa donde este animal místico era conocido por dar mucho miedo a sus habitantes por su característica apariencia y también por alimentarse de la sangre, más específicamente la sangre de las cabras. Allí es cuando entra Chupa, apodado así por el propio Alex. Alex un día que está solo se encuentra con el chupacabras y le da mucho miedo pero lo que no sabe es que su abuelo sabe que el chupacabras está ahí.

But the story of this movie is not only focused on a Mexican family, it also talks about the famous chupacabra, a very famous story where this mystical animal was known to be very scary to its inhabitants because of its characteristic appearance and also for feeding on blood, more specifically the blood of goats. That's where Chupa comes in, nicknamed by Alex himself. Alex one day when he is alone he encounters the chupacabra and it scares him a lot but what he doesn't know is that his grandfather knows that the chupacabra is there.

El chupacabras o Chupa es mostrado en la película como un animal de apariencia extraña pero a la vez tierna que se gana el corazón de Alex y de su abuelo Chava y sus primos Memo y Luna. El problema comienza cuando se enteran de que hay investigadores buscando al chupacabras por ser una especie nunca antes vista al menos por el ojo humano. El investigador empieza a sospechar de que ellos lo tienen escondido en la casa y no para de tratar de averiguar cómo sacarlo de allí y convertirse en el hombre que encontró a un chupacabras. Chupa es bastante tierno y creará un lazo con Alex muy grande donde ambos se acompañaran, entenderán y se ayudarán a mejorar sus vidas. En todo este proceso el abuelo Chava debe lidiar con problemas de salud como lo es la perdida de la memoria o Alzheimer pero esto no será impedimento para enseñarle a su nieto que siempre va estar allí para el y para ayudarlo a que aprenda a vivir a través del dolor de la perdida de su padre.

The chupacabra or Chupa is shown in the film as a strange looking but at the same time tender animal that wins the hearts of Alex and his grandfather Chava and his cousins Memo and Luna. The problem begins when they learn that there are researchers looking for the chupacabra because it is a species never seen before, at least by the human eye. The investigator begins to suspect that they have it hidden in the house and keeps trying to figure out how to get it out of there and become the man who found a chupacabra. Chupa is quite sweet and will create a great bond with Alex where both will accompany each other, understand each other and help each other to improve their lives. Throughout this process Grandpa Chava must deal with health problems such as memory loss or Alzheimer's but this will not prevent him from teaching his grandson that he will always be there for him and help him learn to live through the pain of the loss of his father.

Es una historia que cuenta muy bien la relaciones entre familias de diferentes lugares y como estás diferencias de cultura no son impedimento para que el amor este presente. Cómo a pesar de las adversidades, el dolor y la perdida podemos trascender todo eso y tener una vida feliz y plena. Chupa llega en el momento indicado a la vida de Alex y ambos se recordarán para siempre. Es una película muy bonita que puede verse en familia o con amigos, tiene momentos que te sacarán algunas lágrimas por el tierno lazo entre Chupa y Alex. También es muy colorida y tiene escenas en México muy hermosas que valen la pena mirar. Fue todo un gusto encontrar esta nueva película de Netflix que también pueden encontrar en otras páginas como Cuevana, Gnula y PelisPlus entre otras. Con una duración de una hora y media quedaran encantados con Chupa y su linda apariencia y también con la historia de vida de Alex.

It is a story that tells very well the relationships between families from different places and how these cultural differences are not an impediment for love to be present. How despite adversity, pain and loss we can transcend all that and have a happy and fulfilling life. Chupa arrives at the right time in Alex's life and both will remember each other forever. It is a very nice movie that can be watched with family or friends, it has moments that will bring a few tears to your eyes because of the tender bond between Chupa and Alex. It is also very colorful and has beautiful scenes in Mexico that are worth watching. It was quite a treat to find this new Netflix movie that you can also find on other sites like Cuevana, Gnula and PelisPlus among others. With a duration of an hour and a half you will be enchanted with Chupa and her cute appearance and also with Alex's life story.

It's the Easter holiday and I thought to spice things up a little and find something different to watch. I scrolled through Netflix and found this cutie just released today! It's a fantasy adventure and that was more than enough to get my attention (oi, not at all different from the genres I watch).

Chupa (2023) is an American fantasy adventure film that touches on the Latin American urban legend of the fearsome creature, the Chupacabra. This film begins with a night scene where some American scientists find a baby chupacabra inside a cave-like structure. They want to take it when the mother appears from nowhere, growls at them, swoops in, picks her baby and flies away. The men pursue it, injuring it on one of its feathers.

As the mother runs with her baby, it's accidentally hit by a Beetle car. Seeing the men approaching, it hides the baby behind a rock and distracts the men so that they pursue it. The baby climbs on top of a small rock and howls into the night, mourning its separation from the mother.

Next, viewers are introduced to Alex, a boy who has trouble embracing his Spanish heritage because he lost his father at a tender age. He rejects Mexican cuisine and refuses to learn Spanish. His mother encourages him to spend spring break with his abuelo (grandfather) and cousins in Mexico.

Spring break turns out to be an enlightening holiday where he finds the baby chupacabra, contrary to the belief that they are a legend. They become friends and he names it Chupa. But Alex's compassion and survival instinct is tested as the American scientists led by Richard Quinn (played by Christian Slater) try to capture Chupa. Will the scientists succeed?

Review

It is popularly known that the chupacabra is a fearsome, blood-sucking mythical creature of Latin American folklore that sucks the blood of goats to survive and so viewers would expect that this film would be scary with some gore. Sorry to disappoint, it's not. Chupa is rated PG meaning children can watch and as such, it's not a horror kind of flick but a sweet and heartwarming film directed by Jonás Cuarón.

The plot is good enough to hold viewers' attention for one hour and thirty-something minutes but not that great. Jonás Cuarón explores the idea of the 1970s report that the mythical creature was sighted in Puerto Rico but no concrete evidence was found.

He presents the baby chupacabra, "Chupa" as an adorable animal that children and adults alike would have no choice but to fall in love with. Basically, he transforms a legendary animal that is commonly viewed as a threat into a beloved and idealised companion or friend.

In a way, this film encourages the care of animals whether real, endangered or mythical and disabuses cruelty to animals. This is further displayed in a scene where Alex is asked to choose one of the goats for dinner, he expresses shock at the request and his grandfather reveals that one of his cousins is a vegetarian.

I like how the theme of family and love is portrayed in this film. Also, the Spanish culture is ingrained into every part of the film such as the music, cuisine and fighting skills and games. This teaches viewers, especially children to be proud of their heritage even when they are in another city or country.

The part I fault in the film is the antagonists' performance. Richard Quinn is not menacing enough for a character who receives threats from the people who commission him because "they don't do too well with disappointments." He appears more like a caricature of a villain but I suppose it's because of the film's audience.

The cast is great and their performances are excellent, especially Alex's grandfather, Chava (played by Demián Bichir). He conveys a cool and super nice grandfather that every child can relate to. But I feel the characters were not given enough time to develop their familial relationship. As soon as Alex arrives in Mexico, he relates with his cousins and environment like he's familiar with them already when he's supposedly a total stranger.

Overall, Chupa is a light-hearted and cute movie that encourages love and family bond. It's one I'll recommend for families to relax and watch together for the Easter holiday.
