🌸 Clannad & After Story – Family, Growing Up, and the Meaning of a Life@zeruxanime165d
Some anime make you emotional. Others change the way you look at life. Clannad and Clannad After Story do both.
Released between 2007 and 2009 and produced by Kyoto Animation, this series begins as a quiet school drama and slowly transforms into something much deeper—a story about love, responsibility, family, and the fragile beauty of everyday moments.
When I first watched Clannad, I thought it would be a simple slice-of-life romance. After Story proved me completely wrong.
🎒 A Small Town and a Quiet Beginning
The story follows Tomoya Okazaki, a disillusioned high school student drifting through life without purpose. His routine changes when he meets Nagisa Furukawa, a gentle girl struggling to find her place in the world.
What starts as a story about friendship and school slowly builds emotional foundations—introducing characters whose lives intersect in subtle, meaningful ways.
🌼 After Story: When Life Truly Begins
Clannad After Story shifts focus beyond youth and into adulthood. Dreams, work, responsibility, and loss take center stage. The tone becomes heavier, more realistic, and far more intimate.
This is where the series truly shines—not through dramatic twists, but through quiet moments that reflect real life: choices made, mistakes carried, and love tested by time.
🎶 Emotion Through Silence and Music
The soundtrack is gentle and deeply emotional, often letting silence do most of the work. Simple piano melodies underline scenes that feel painfully real, making the emotional impact hit even harder.
The animation focuses on expressions, pauses, and small gestures—reminding us that sometimes the most important moments are the quiet ones.
💫 A Story About Family, Loss, and Hope
Clannad / After Story is ultimately a story about family—not just the one you’re born into, but the one you build. It explores grief, forgiveness, and the strength it takes to keep going when life feels unbearable.
This anime doesn’t rush comfort—it earns it. And because of that, it remains one of the most powerful emotional experiences in anime history.
If you’re ready for a story that mirrors real life with honesty and compassion, Clannad and After Story are unforgettable.
›Clannad: An anime that left an imprint on my heart@mig1878d
Hello Hive friends, today I bring you an anime that many of you have probably heard of or mentioned at some point. This was one of the first anime I seriously watched and kept track of. It really left an imprint in my heart because of all the story it entails and the different sad or happy situations we can observe during the whole course of the anime. So let's go with the review.
At the beginning, the story focuses mainly on our protagonist, Tomoya Okazaki, who is a high school student leading a monotonous life without any emotion. He is an unmotivated and disinterested character. One day, on his way to school, he meets a person who will turn his life around, our other protagonist named Nagisa. Nagisa is a shy girl who asks Tomoya to help her revive the school drama club. At first, Tomoya refuses, but decides to accompany her to better understand the situation.
When he arrives at the drama club, he encounters a problematic situation. Here we are introduced to different characters, such as two twins with different personalities: one reserved and the other sweet. In addition, we are introduced to a genius from school who joins the group, although she feels a bit out of place at first.
As the anime progresses, we see the problems and interactions between these characters develop. We are shown a wide range of feelings, which helps us to feel more empathy for each of them. The character development is well cared for and you are likely to grow fond of them.Despite being somewhat realistic, the anime also has its touch of fantasy. Our protagonist meets another character named Fuko Ibuki, who is quite mysterious and seems to be not of this world. She claims to be a wizard of the stars, and that's not the only fantasy aspect of this anime, but you'll find out later.
Clannad, as I mentioned at the beginning, left a mark in my heart. It consists of two seasons, where the first one focuses on the relationships of each character and how they form and strengthen little by little. Each one lends each other support and has their own story, which makes you feel a certain appreciation for each of the characters. Also, I always have a certain soft spot for romance anime, and here it shows how the relationship between Nagisa and Tomoya builds over the course of the episodes, not being a sudden thing, but gradually developing, laying a good foundation for the next season.
The second season focuses mainly on the relationship of these two characters, looking at the various obstacles they face along the way and how they overcome them. Clannad is not afraid to touch on deep themes, such as the loss of a character, and I assure you that you will cry quite a bit, just as I did at the time. It also highlights the importance of having people in those very dark moments. So, if you like romance anime where everything doesn't always work out and what's left is hope, you should watch Clannad.
Thanks for reading my post, and see you next time <3

›[Anime review] [Esp - Eng] Clannad | Some things cannot be given@jrjaime1696d
Welcome dear internet travelers and thank you for making a temporary stop in my post, an important concept in a story is to advance time and change scenarios, the relevance of this is to always maintain a fresh air in the plot to avoid getting stuck and becoming repetitive. That is why today I will be reviewing an anime that puts this concept on the table and is neither more nor less than the Clannad anime, without more than adding to accommodate your seat that we are about to start.

Clannad was released in 2008, is based on the visual novel of the same name developed by Key, was produced by Kyoto Animation and has a total of 23 chapters. The story focuses on Tomoya Okazaki a high school boy who has a complicated situation in his house because his mother died and his father not knowing how to cope with his loss is given to gambling and alcoholism, this complicated family situation leads Tomoya to want to spend the least amount of time in his house and in turn mold his character as a cold person, apathetic and distant, she has no intention of overcoming. Like any good school anime one day his life changes when he heads to school with Furukawa Nagisa who is quite different from him and will change his perception of life.

There is a huge waste of characters that is very easily noticeable because the cast of characters is very large for the short time you have to give a good and correct focus to all these. There are in total 7 girls apart from the protagonists but as these do not matter I will only talk about the protagonist and the most important of the girls. Tomoya is the protagonist and has various problems at home so he is very disinterested in school so he constantly skips classes and is branded a criminal, something that simply takes him carelessly. As an important girl this Nagisa who was the one I mentioned in the synopsis, unlike Tomoya if she has a house with nice and worried parents, she is quite clumsy and stupid, she is studying the same year as the protagonist but with the particularity that she is a year older, the reason for repeating is because she got sick for a long time the previous year so she could not pass.
The animation is strange since its characters although they are stylized are noticeable from afar with a fairly simple style, however that lack of details are used in the backgrounds, in the music there is no element that stands out, being typical of an average school anime.
The world-building is slow and boring being something characteristic of school anime and life accounts, being that events such as Tomoya's difficult relationship with his father are explored very subtly and are overshadowed by another without a number of absurd and idiotic things. At one point it makes an interesting change of context since the characters graduate from school and start their adult lives bringing much more interesting problems on the table, however what it does well on the one hand it does badly on the other but this we will see more deeply in the analysis of the plot.
There is a serious problem with the plot of this anime and it is mainly because half of the season is a generic and vulgar school with very few important things to tell so this part is tedious and lacking in personality, has some comic and romance moments but does not take them out of the line of monotony and the common. In the construction of the world mention that something unique and very uncommon happens in school anime and it is the fact that they make their characters graduate and go on to have new responsibilities, this concept as such is very interesting and becomes even more impactful when the protagonist must face all the difficulties of growing up like maintaining a house, job disappointments and so on, it also shows the obstacles that a couple can have. Everything becomes more difficult when Tomoya must face a personal loss, being that he faces it in the worst possible way using alcohol as a measure to endure his mourning, leaving aside his obligations to his daughter and assuming a behavior similar to that of his father, being even poetic that it became what he hated the most. That kind of plot was extremely captivating until I sent everything to hell with a reboot of time making basically everything that went through never go through what is a real pity and a waste of a good story.
The characters are totally irrelevant except for the protagonist who in the adult stage is shown to touch bottom by not knowing how to face the death of his beloved, this was a very realistic and excellently achieved perspective on how some people find it titanically difficult to accept certain losses being a fact that not only affects him but the family of the deceased. That sad panorama was reflected in the characters and even showed a captivating development when Tomoya understands and understands that he cannot escape his responsibilities for his mourning, that despite all life continues and must advance in it. Unfortunately the anime loses too much merit for this character construction when making a reboot and that all these events and sufferings did not matter, this implies that he is honestly not interested in everything I achieve since I only return time and nothing happened, it is simply something regrettable wherever you look at it. I will mention the nice relationship he had with Nagisa, although in the first part it was shown as something boring, slow and generic, little by little it was shown as a relationship of mutual support in difficult moments something that is simply beautiful. The rest of the characters can be carried by a dog by mouth and nothing would happen except for Nagisa's family who are perfect secondary characters.
Clannad is one of the most overrated anime I have seen in a long time, it uses the worst narrative resource there is to rewrite the facts and make everything I achieve with its characters and story go straight to the trash, the second approach that the anime had was extremely interesting but it is no longer necessary to emphasize what happened with it. I just can't stand an anime making you feel something and then sending everything to the devil, so it deserves a solid rating of 2.5 stars out of 7. This anime is a good example that good things can be easily overshadowed by bad things, in most of the time it is boring and when it becomes interesting it decides to throw everything overboard, an anime that I do not recommend at all since it mocks the viewer in the most blatant way possible.

:black_heart:
›Clannad Anthology Comic - Manga Review@aretheus2968d
I have no doubt in my mind that Clannad is one of the best romance properties in anime. Sure, it's not the most realistic story ever with its ghost coma girls and the parallel world wishing wells. Sure, it's kind of emotionally manipulative with its bombastic music arrangements and sweeping choreography (which are all still impressive in their own right). But at the end of the day, Clannad was one of the most important anime for me of all time and I still consider Nagisa to be among the best anime characters ever conceived.
So imagine my surprise back in November of 2014 to hear about a Kickstarter for an official English release of the Clannad visual novel by Sekai Project. Of course, I threw in $80 + $5 shipping total to get a digital copy of the game on Steam, the translated side stories on Steam, and a physical copy of the Clannad Anthology Manga. That manga is what I want to take a look at today. Was the worth the $20?
After School Ghost Busters
By: Juri Misaki
Synopsis
The first of the three stories bundled in the anthology manga is a story from while all of the characters were still students at Hikarizaka Private High School. The primary cast is having a discussion about ghosts haunting the school when Kotori happens to hear them. Tomoya and friend must now convince Kotori that they were just rumors after all.
Story
This story is definitely the most derivative of all the stories. Absolutely every character's primary personality trait is showcased. Kyou is throwing textbooks at Sunohara, Nagisa is being a sweet little jelly bean <3, and Fuuko has a flashlight shaped like a starfish. Whether this is a good or bad thing will depend on if you're tired of seeing their antics or not. For me, I'll literally take whatever Clannad I can get. I will say I've always seen Kotori as the weakest link in Clannad, so I'm always going to have trouble feeling the emotional impact in one of her stories.
Art
As for the art, Juri Misaki was the artist for the original Clannad manga back in the mid-2000s. She's still retained some of her artistic style, but incorporating a lot from the anime's style as well. She's learned to exaggerate the actions of characters, whereas before, she focused more on keeping character proportions correct at all times. It's still distinct from the anime, but I'd never be confused about who a character was based on the art.
In Papa's Arms
By: ZEN
Synopsis
The second story in the anthology features a scene of Tomoya, Nagisa, and Ushio at their home post-After Story. Nagisa is jealous of Ushio being held by Tomoya, and asks for the same treatment. Fuuko then arrives and complicates matters for the couple.
Story
If I haven't made myself clear enough yet, Nagisa is literally a goddess to me. There are so few female characters that I love anywhere near as much as her. Maybe Shouko from Koe no Katachi, but that's beside the point. So I'm always going to be happy seeing some Tomoya x Nagisa fluff material. Fuuko and Nagisa have a great time being air-headed goofballs while Ushio is still just as sweet as she's always been. I also love how they adopted the gag between Nagisa's parents and brought it back here.
Art
ZEN is the only artist featured here who hasn't ever worked on a piece of Clannad media before. Despite that, I think he did a spectacular job emulating the style of the After Story anime. Ushio, Nagisa and Fuuko look exactly as I would expect. Tomoya's facial features make him look a bit too young if you ask me, but it's well within the acceptable margin for error.
BABY BABY
By: Yukiko Sumiyoshi
Synopsis
In the third and final story of the anthology, Tomoya is currently in a relationship with Tomoyo. She is watching a family drama one day when she considers that she would love to start a family with Tomoya. How will Tomoya react to it?
Story
Tomoyo has always been the third-best girl in "Clannad" to me, next to Nagisa and Kyou. I'll even admit that I played the "Tomoyo After" visual novel (blush). So I was interested to see how they were going to approach this. I think there are some very good aspects to it, like how they reincorporated Tomoyo's backstory and put a twist to it, and how Sunohara got some time in the spotlight as well.
I'm just confused when this story takes place. Sunohara and Tomoya typically hung out in Sunohara's dorm while they were in high school, but Tomoyo barged in as if it were Tomoya's home. Then Sunohara leaves, confirming that it isn't Sunohara's dorm, but why would Tomoya ever be at home while he still has a bad relationship with his father? It just doesn't add up, and I think they didn't think very deeply while writing this story.
Art
Yukiko Sumiyoshi was the artist for the "Tomoyo After" manga and the "Tomoyo Dearest" manga. So she is certainly not unfamiliar with this subject matter at all. I just don't think she has ever drawn Tomoya well, and that has not changed here. This interpretation of Tomoya is just wrong as far as I'm concerned. Tomoya is not baby-faced and he doesn't have Yugioh hair.
But credit where credit is due, she is quite skillful with the use of comedic timing using manga, and her art-style for baby-Sunohara is brilliant.
Overall
After the three stories, there are some messages by the staff towards the crowdfunding and some thumbnail images of the Japanese translation. Overall, would I consider the product to be worth $20? As someone who loved Clannad to death back in the day, I'd say so. But the entire experience is steeped in self-reference, so if you're not familiar with it, you'll likely not appreciate it as much.
You can buy a digital copy of the manga on Steam, but if you didn't support the kickstarter, then the physical copy will have to be purchased from another supporter directly.
Altanda's style of the same Star is romantic and abundantly tearful.
The school meets a mad girl and helps her open the school drama club. It looks very straight, is not it? Definitely not. This anime is dragging you into feelings you could not even imagine before. When you laugh with a laugh, you can find yourself crying on the ground in a fetal position.
