  1. Cobweb - A production where tension and fear are insufficient and mystery is successfully reflected@cute-cactus815d

I remember a saying that whatever happens to a person comes from curiosity, but without curiosity it must be very difficult to learn and discover things. We all know how curious children are, especially when they observe their surroundings with curious eyes. And when they start to experiment with what they observe, nothing can stop them, because their curiosity overrides even pain and fear.

    [source](https://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/nYDPmxvl0if5vHBBp7pDYGkTFc7.jpg)

Peter is an energetic and curious eight-year-old boy. His curiosity is so triggered that it overrides even fear. As you may have guessed, Peter's story is the main plot of the 2023 movie Cobweb.

The thriller, horror genre production actually has more mysterious aspects in its story. You are tossed back and forth like a tennis ball between a family of 3, consisting of a mother, father and child. This turns into a great pleasure while watching the movie, but when it becomes ordinary; it loses its horror and suspense aspect and suddenly turns into a movie that stands out with its massacre scenes.

You know the movies where death happens and is shown a lot, I'm sure you've seen at least one such production. After a while, the mundane deaths and the details of the deaths get boring and the story ends in the same line without any variation. The movie Cobweb also becomes quite ordinary after taking the horror and suspense off the shelf.

[source](https://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/awZhUJbtT0LolI7HscbyieKihuh.jpg) The script of the movie is good, and with the mysteries that the director adds, you can't decide who is good and who is bad. This feature of the movie manages to keep the audience on the screen. It is hard to predict the change between a few minutes before and a few minutes after and they have successfully triggered the sense of curiosity.

But when everything becomes normalized and you take sides, the story suddenly becomes mundane and the actors start acting ridiculously one after the other. A production that could have been much more successful falls below mediocre after these moments. It turns into a madman's attempt to kill everyone who comes to the house.

However, if the family drama that emerges right after the horror and tension could have been better staged by incorporating the past into it, I could say that the movie offers great viewing pleasure and makes you feel the horror as much as possible. A female being who lives the drama and who is not clear what kind of creature she is suddenly turns the place into a bloodbath.

I liked the development of the story in the beginning and middle of the movie, I didn't like the conclusion. The final scenes made me feel like I was watching another movie. The way the mystery was added was good and kept the movie from being predictable until the end.

    [source](https://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/nkxAvrdrOXFCcDX0dCjPErFsjAO.jpg)

The way 8-year-old Peter overcomes fear through his sense of curiosity is successfully portrayed and reflected. Woody Norman, the child actor who brings him to life, did the best he could. I can say that he had a successful performance about what curiosity can do to a person. However, I find it inadequate in the story that the sharp turn that a child of that age exhibits is not explained in the film. It is certain that the U-turn that someone will show in their behavior for any reason will have causes and consequences. The transition to the consequences without showing the reasons decreased the momentum of the movie.

If I keep the ending of Cobweb separate, I would definitely recommend you to watch the movie, but since I can't keep the ending of the movie separate; I am in favor of you making your own decision about watching the movie. The movie is successful up to a point, but when the big picture is revealed by adding the ending to the story, it falls short. I'm torn between a good movie and a bad movie, and I think it's appropriate to call it mediocre. Thank you for being here and reading, and I wish everyone who will watch the movie a good time. May you get the most pleasure from the life you live and the movies you watch!

Hello friends, how are you? This time I bring you a horror film that I decided to give a chance despite my little faith in horror projects lately and the truth is that I confirmed my disappointment, although I must confess that even so the film, although I can't qualify it as good, I did find it somewhat entertaining.

¡Hola amigos!

    My Opinion/Mi Opinión

I wanted to analyse this film with a critical eye, without letting myself be carried away by the prejudice and the stigma that "they don't make them like they used to", so I gave it a chance, but as I was watching the film I discovered that although the main idea and the plot of the story is quite good, I think that at some point it got out of control and it was absurd, even being a horror film, I think that they could have taken much more advantage of the idea of the "monster", I don't know, it reached a point where many scenes seemed basic and even childish, the performances were good, except for the substitute teacher, I feel as if the actress did not end up getting into character.

What I did like was the twist plot regarding Peter's parents, I mean, parents are always expected to be protective of their children, not the other way around, I feel they handled that issue very well to generate unease and even helplessness in the audience.

On the other hand there is something that caught my attention and maybe I'm wrong but it was something I perceived, and that is that I found a certain resemblance in this film, as if it was a wink or something like that, with Coraline, I say this because of the fact that the parents are also involved and also for the matter of the unknown on the other side of the wall, I don't know, maybe it doesn't make sense but I perceived it like that.

And that's all for today, I don't want to tell you that I recommend this film or that I don't recommend it, that's something I prefer to leave to your criteria, because probably you will find it a great film or maybe you will end up hating it more than me 😆 tastes are relative. I hope you have a great week, friends, I send you a hug.

  3. Cobweb a good choice within the genre@ismaca1019d

    image.png Image

Peter is an isolated boy, raised under the strict supervision of his parents, who is bullied at school.

One night he begins to hear noises in the wall of his room.

From then on, dark family secrets begin to unravel.

Good horror film. It's as simple as that.

Lizzie Caplan plays a great role and Antony Star is still struggling to shake off the homelander shadow.

    image.png Image

But here, the one to watch is the infant Woody Norman as he looks set for more powerful roles.

The director knows how to make the most of every last place in the house, without falling into long contemplative or symbolic shots.

The use of the scare jump is moderate, leaving the terror as a logical, and unstoppable, logic.

A good choice within the genre

🎬 Lo bueno y lo malo | The good and the bad

    ####

I was surprised to see Antony Starr, but I must say that he fits very well as his performance is very good as well as the rest of the cast, especially Lizzy Caplan who had years without seeing her.

The beginning of this film seemed quite promising, its gloomy and disturbing atmosphere traps us and leads us to immerse ourselves in the story and the mystery, too bad the rest is not up to that good initial premise.

However, it wasn't all bad, what happens is that in the second half of the film everything starts to become a bit clumsy and the best act was carried out in a rushed manner and without the attention it deserved, which I found quite disappointing, that and the end left us with more questions than answers.

And one character that I feel was too much was the teacher, maybe because they didn't give her the depth she needed or because I felt she was unnecessary. In short, I was disappointed with what could have been and wasn't, because it had the potential to be better.

  5. Confusing Resolution! Cobweb (2023) || Movie Review.@esther-emmanuel1047d

    IMG_20230816_164303.jpg

The aim of watching a movie is actually to get entertained from the start to finish and also enjoy the resolution of the story. However, watching a film with an impressive start and then getting to the end you were fed with a lazy, confusing and unrealistic resolution. Ouch! That will hurt! After investing a great amount of your time watching the movie. Well cobweb is a perfect example of this.

At first when I heard of this movie I was a bit reluctant to watch it because of Antony Starr. I am not a fan of his work and it was because of him I stopped watching the TV show titled 'The Boys'. However, I read a positive review online and decided to give it a try. I love horror and this movie is horror. So I thought, it can't be that bad. Then I gave it a try.

'Cobweb (2023)' is an American horror thriller that was written by Chris Thomas Devlin and directed by Samuel Bodin. This movie was distributed by Lionsgate and the story revolves around an eight-year-old boy named Peter who discovers that a voice is trying to communicate with him from the wall of his bedroom and he has to find out who or what it is behind the wall. The movie starred Woody Norman, Lizzy Caplan, Antony Starr, Cleopatra Coleman and Jay Rincon.

    IMG_20230816_190729.jpg

    IMG_20230816_190802.jpg

The movie starts by introducing us to a timid boy named Peter who lives with his parents in an old house. He is always bullied at school because of his timid nature. Yet at home he is emotionally detached from his parents who act mysteriously. On a beautiful family dinner night, Peter asked his parents if he could go trick-or-treating but his parents immediately rejected his proposal and told him what happened in their city some years back when a girl disappeared on Halloween night. This story made Peter scared.

    IMG_20230816_190914.jpg

    IMG_20230816_191036.jpg

In the middle of the night when Peter was fast asleep, he began to hear muffled knocks, thuds and footsteps in the wall of his bedroom. Then, a young girl's voice called out to him, he got terrified and immediately called for his parents. His parents came and dismissed all he said and told him it was all a dream. These muffled sounds and voices kept on until Peter decided to find out who was behind the wall. What or who will Peter find? Is it a ghost? Or is their house haunted?

    My Review And Rating.

My experience with this movie is strange and confusing. This is the first time I am experiencing such after watching a movie. At the start, I was impressively invested in the movie because of how interesting the beginning was. However, on getting to almost the end, I was thrown off course like a signboard during a tornado. I was thrown into confusion because I began to question myself about what I was watching. Is it a paranormal or horror? Why am I seeing a human spider creature? How did it come to be? What is the back story? Let's leave it at that.

    untitled.gif Source

I have to commend the director of this movie for directing the first part of this movie in an intriguing way. It was good, the tension and suspense build was amazing. Also, the writer (Chris Thomas Devlin) conjured up a fantastic story that had potential but in the middle he went of course, lost his MOJO and began to write a story that has nothing to do with the beginning which brings us to the bad script of this movie. However the director did his best to actually give the movie a good outlook, but still it wasn't enough.

Let's talk about the cast. The Cast were amazing with their performances and they were able to portray their roles well in a realistic way. The only problem I think the cast had was the terrible script writing. It destroyed some of their talents and I wished the script was written in a better way. Before I forget, Antony Starr was annoying in this movie as usual. 😑

For the visual and cinematography, it was terrible for me. Everything was dark, shoddy and no proper lighting. Even Peter's house was lacking effective electricity. I would go blind if I lived in that house for months. I love Lights! Also, the human spider creature was terrible and not showcased well. I saw nothing else except for legs, arms and rapunzel-like tangled hair.

Rating this movie, I will give it 4 out of 10 stars. Cobweb is a movie that comes bearing sweet things then leaves you with confusion and no lasting impression. It's suitable for once watching and then just forget you ever watched it. If you haven't seen it yet, go watch it now. Perhaps your experience might be different from mine.

  6. 'Cobweb' by Samuel Bodin Review: An okay thriller, but some wasted potential@namiks1051d

    vlcsnap-2023-08-12-18h46m05s782.png

It has been a while since I last saw a relatively new release. I had that itch to check out something new these past days as I realised I'm actually very out of the loop when it comes to modern television series and feature length titles. Streaming services are a chore to sit through to find something, and often enough I just don't have that patience. I Googled through some newer releases much like I did a few months ago, and found a few titles to check out. It is rare that I choose a modern horror or thriller film due to the genres being plagued with annoying tropes that just make them all the same. Recently it appears there's a new trope playing out within these genres: the house. The idea of the house as a setting for something far more sinister than meets the eye. Barbarian was a film much like this, indie but with a decent enough budget and story to hold your interest. Well, I assumed that'd be the case here with Cobweb, but I tried my best to avoid the synopsis. In fact, even as the credits ran I was surprised to see Seth Rogen listed as a producer, given his work recently elsewhere in animation and The Boys.

I really wasn't sure what to expect from this one. But I think I actually enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would, especially after seeing the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Though with this film came some wasted potential as it started to reach its conclusion, going a bit off the rails to pursue an action packed finale rather than expanding upon its oddness. It held a great build up of tension and questions to begin with, however. Starting off quite strong, ultimately leading me in one direction as it went in another. Subverted expectations are rarely done well in films and television shows, but one of the main strengths here was how it handled it all. Another strength was in how the film progressed mostly with the perspective of a child, giving us a lot to connect with and feel for, contributing to those subverted expectations as the story went on and became more strange. The fact that this film didn't feel like a slow burn with a relatively short runtime also added to the positives. It didn't overstay its welcome, and thus never got boring with filler.

So, for now I can already suggest watching the film, perhaps more fitting over Halloween for the atmosphere. It'll be a lot more fun then.

    Cobweb

    vlcsnap-2023-08-12-18h45m54s976.png

For a thriller and horror film, I would say that Cobweb is a film that isn't actually scary at all. It's purely atmospheric in how it builds up its story and throws various questions at the audience. This film introduces its main protagonist as a young child, one that gets bullied often at school and believes he's hearing a voice in the wall. His parents of course don't believe anything, telling him its nothing and that he's just misbehaving. These dismissive parents at first just seem stupid, but as the story progresses it starts to look malicious. This works alongside a concerned teacher that pokes their nose around the family trying to figure out what's really going on in her student's life. Clearly something is afoot here. What adds to the suspense is how the child slowly begins to to act out on the words he's hearing in his room. Pushing one of his bullies down the stairs in school, breaking his leg in the process.

The more we see of his home life, the more it appears as if the parents are holding something from the world. There's talks of a young girl that went missing in the area not long ago, which implies something sinister as the parents start acting very suspicious. I really liked how this was handled, at first it felt a bit generic, a bit too blatant with its story. But it sure took me for a ride as it turned out everything I had assumed was in fact wrong. And the film rarely implies anything other, making that final pay-off really take you off-guard. Though, the problem here is that the reality of the situation isn't that interesting. Instead, it's a bit disappointing. As the film picks up with the action, the truth gets revealed to us, but that truth just doesn't really appear all that interesting or scary. Especially having had the film build up this suspense for almost an hour. It's this last 25 minutes of the film which really focuses on wrapping things up that things sort of fall flat, and don't get me wrong, it isn't bad, just in the narrative seems a bit too normal. Part of this is due to how well your expectations get subverted, your mind starts to question all options, and the truth just doesn't have much weight in comparison.

From the cinematic perspective, the film is done very well. I really liked the lighting and directing in this. It didn't pursue any weird horror tropes in the sense that you have violins screeching and long, slow dolly shots moving inward into the darkness -- though I admit there is a few similar ideas here. But they don't throw out any jump scares sudden loud noises. A strength here is that once the truth is revealed, it still keeps it quite hidden. We don't really see the thing that is hiding in the walls. One thing I have to mention though: why are American houses built so poorly that their walls are paper thin with enough space to walk through?! So many horror and thriller films focus on this idea, it seems the genres would crumble without the idea of massive housing space being wasted with empty walls. Anyway, the utilisation of showing very little of our supposed threat means it continues being something we aren't so sure about. We don't need to see everything, just enough of it to get an idea of its shape and size. Hands on the flooring from beneath the door; long, grey hair that drags around. These are a few examples in which I felt not showing a lot was actually better!

I really don't want to go too deep into the story or spoil anything, so that's as far as I'll go in discussing the story and its main idea. But I will say that I actually quite enjoyed this film. It was a really nice surprise despite having a few weaknesses here and there. In terms of visuals and performances, there wasn't really much wrong with it. Very few characters, and given just enough screen time each.
