Diseases are a crucial issue to deal with, which should not be taken lightly, from a simple flu to cancer; they are manifestations of the body, both physiological and mental, that warn us that something is wrong, where there is deterioration in it and should be treated, however small and irrelevant it may seem, because in the end it can become something much worse. Since Covid-19, people were alarmed in many ways, what was believed to be a simple flu, ended up killing thousands and thousands of lives in the world, and not only the physical part was involved, also the psychological lack of control caused such mortality rates. The films I selected for the CineTV were Contagion and My sister's Keeper.
CONTAGION
Drama, science fiction and suspense film, directed by Steven Soderbergh, starring Matt Damon, Mario Cotillard, Kate Winslet, Laurence Fishburne, among other great Hollywood actors. This production was released in 2011, just after the Influenza A (H1N1) pandemic that broke out between 2009-2010, which made it very popular at that time and gained greater notoriety after Covid-19, due to the similarities between the plot and real life.
The film quickly narrates the progress of a lethal virus, whose origin is unknown; an airborne virus. The first character we are shown is Bett Emhoff, who arrives from a trip from Hong Kong, however, her health is notably deteriorated, which ends up causing her death, and not only hers, but also that of her son. Her husband, who witnesses this event, is put in quarantine, but later it is revealed that he is immune; this was only the beginning of a pandemic that would kill thousands of people, and that, in turn, would cause a global disorder both politically, economically and socially.
It is a realistic thriller, without special effects that shows us a clearer reality of humanity in the face of a deadly virus. The virus in the film is called MEV-1, where its origin is due to zoonosis (caused by the bat and the pig) and presents as clinical manifestation: fever, sore throat, cough, sweating and general malaise, in addition to death; all this bears certain similarities with the Influenza A what. for that time, even its cause was also caused by a pig and that, even more, is assimilated to the Covid-19.
It presents rigorous and considerable actions that this type of situation causes, such as the convulsive status, the containment measures, the quarantine, the cremation of the corpses, the panic and reaction of the people that causes in turn, the spread of false information and, of course, what you want to reach when a virus breaks out and that is, a vaccine or possible cure. There are quite notorious scenes that play with the psychology of the audience, as when the actress Kate Winslet in her role as the character, explains in a simple and quick way the way a virus spreads, which makes you feel some panic. Also in the way it originated, by the simple fact of not taking the correct hygiene and sanitation measures, in one of the main causes of it, something that happens in the same way in real life and that undoubtedly makes you go deeper into the plot.
My sister's Keeper
Production released for the year 2009 of drama genre, directed by Nick Cassavetes, starring Cameron Diaz, Alec Baldwin, Abigail Breslin, Sofia Vassilieva. Adapted from the novel My sister's keeper by Jodi Picoult.
Kate Fitzgerald, the daughter of husband and wife Sarah and Brian, has acute promyelocytic leukemia, where neither her older brother nor her parents can be donors, as they are not compatible with her, so they are suggested to have a third child, through in vitro fertilization, giving birth to Anne. The little girl all her life felt that she was born only to be used as a lifesaver for her older sister, submitting her body to multiple medical procedures, which makes her exhausted and does not want to be a kidney donor for her sister, but something else is hidden behind this decision and that makes everyone face hard moments, fragile emotions and painful choices.
It is a film that deals with the adversities and what they come to suffer, both people with this type of disease and their families; the dilemmas and dilemmas that are subjected to each character in the story, the causes and consequences of a complex decision are revealed gradually so that we go deeper into the emotions that are evoked in it. This type of disease, be it cancer, leukemia or any other, which is difficult to handle, due to the psychological impact it causes, in addition to the physical impact, shows how complicated it is to assimilate the presence of this in the lives of all those involved and the limits to which human beings can conceive, as long as their loved one is healthy.
A production with remarkable and excellent performances, a plot that marks you and allows you to connect with the characters in question, how complicated these situations frame the patient's life, what it is to live and coexist with it; a story that helps us to understand and be sensitive to this issue. Really touching and painful.
The selection of these films was for the following reasons: the first was because when I read a film with a disease, contagion came to my mind, more because of its similarity to what happened in 2020 with respect to COVID, where one believed that because it was a film they exaggerated with certain arguments, but living it, it shows that it is not far from reality. With the second one, it was because I have two aunts who survived cancer, while some uncles unfortunately did not, so this analogy between the story told and the personal experience is so true that, it becomes close and that, the most complicated thing about making a decision between one's own life and that of others, are the outcomes that come after it.

Las enfermedades son un tema crucial a tratar, el cual no debe tomarse a la ligera, desde una simple gripe hasta el cáncer; son manifestaciones del cuerpo tanto fisiológicas como mentales, que nos advierten que algo está mal, donde existe deterioro en el mismo y que debe tratarse, por muy pequeña e irrelevante que esta se vea, pues al final puede llegar a ser algo mucho peor. Desde el Covid-19, las personas se alarmaron en muchos sentidos, lo que se creía como una simple gripe, terminó acabando con miles y miles de vida en el mundo, y no solo la parte física se vio involucrada, también el descontrol psicológico ocasionó tales tasas de mortalidad. Las películas que seleccione para el Concurso de CineTV fueron Contagio y la decisión más difícil.

Producción que se estrenó para el año 2011, justo después de la pandemia de la Gripe A (H1N1) que se gestó entre el 2009-2010, por lo cual obtuvo gran popularidad en ese entonces y adquirió mayor notoriedad después del Covid-19, por las similitudes que guarda la trama con la vida real.
La película nos narra rápidamente el progreso de un virus letal, del que se desconoce su origen; un virus transmitido por aire. El primer personaje que nos muestran es a Bett Emhoff, quien llega de un viaje de Hong Kong, sin embargo, su salud se ve notablemente deteriorada que le termina ocasionando su muerte y, no solo la de ella, también la de su hijo. Su esposo, quien es testigo de este acontecimiento, es puesto en cuarentena, pero más adelante se revela que es inmune; esto era solo el comienzo de una pandemia que acabaría con la vida de miles de personas, y que, a su vez, ocasionaría un desorden mundial tanto a nivel político y económico como social.
Es un thriller realista, sin efectos especiales que nos manifiesta una realidad más clara de la humanidad ante un virus mortal. El virus dentro de la película se le llama MEV-1, donde su origen es por zoonosis (ocasionado por el murciélago y el cerdo) y presenta como manifestación clínica: Fiebre, dolor de garganta, tos, sudoración y malestar general, además de la muerte; todo esto guarda ciertas semejanzas con la Gripe A qué. para ese entonces, incluso su causa también fue por un cerdo y que, aún más, se asimila al Covid-19.
Presenta rigurosas y considerables acciones que este tipo de situaciones ocasionan, como el status convulsivo, las medidas de contención, la cuarentena, la cremación de los cadáveres, el pánico y reacción de las personas que ocasiona a su vez, la difusión de información falsa y, por supuesto, a lo que se quiere llegar cuando un virus brota y esto es, una vacuna o posible cura. Hay escenas bastantes notorias, que juegan con la psicología del público, como cuando la actriz Kate Winslet en su rol del personaje, explica de manera sencilla y rápida la forma de propagarse de un virus, lo cual te hace sentir algo de pánico. También en la manera en cómo se originó, por el simple hecho de no tomar las medidas correctas de higiene y salubridad, en una de las principales causas del mismo, cosa que ocurre de igual forma en la vida real y que sin duda, te hace adentrarte más a la trama.
La Decisión más difícil
Producción estrenada para el año 2009 de genero drama, dirigido por Nick Cassavetes, protagonizado por Cameron Diaz, Alec Baldwin, Abigail Breslin, Sofia Vassilieva. Adaptación de la novela My sister’s keeper de Jodi Picoult.
Nos narra una historia familiar que enfrenta una situación bastante triste, pues la hija de los esposos Sarah y Brian, Kate Fitzgerald, tiene leucemia promielocítica aguda, donde ni su hermano mayor, ni sus padres pueden ser donantes, ya que no son compatibles con ella, por lo que se les sugiere tener un tercer hijo, a través de la fecundación in vitro, naciendo de ello, Anne. La pequeña toda su vida sintió que nació solo para ser usada como un salvavidas para su hermana mayor, sometiendo su cuerpo a múltiples procedimientos médicos, lo que hace que se agote y no quiera ser donante de riñón para su hermana, pero algo más se esconde tras esta decisión y que hace que todos se enfrentes a momentos duros, de emociones frágiles y de elecciones dolorosas.
Es una película que trata sobre las adversidades y lo que llegan a sufrir, tanto las personas con este tipo de enfermedad como sus familiares; las disyuntivas y dilemas que son sometidos cada personaje dentro de la historia, las causas y consecuencias que conlleva una decisión compleja son reveladas de forma paulatina para que nos adentremos más a las emociones que se evoca en la misma. Este tipo de enfermedades sea cáncer, leucemia o de cualquier otra, que son difíciles de manejar, por el impacto psicológico que origina, además del físico, manifiesta lo complicado que es asimilar la presencia de esto en la vida de todos los involucrados y de los limites en que puede llegar a concebir el ser humano, con tal de que su ser querido este sano.
Una producción con notables y excelentes actuaciones, una trama que te marca y te permite conectar con los personajes en cuestión, lo complicado que estas situaciones enmarcan la vida del paciente, lo que es vivir y convivir con el mismo; una historia que nos ayuda a comprender y ser sensibles con este tema. Realmente conmovedora y dolorosa.
La selección de estas películas fue por las siguientes razones: la primera pues al momento de leer una película con una enfermedad, se me vino a la cabeza contagio, más por su semejanza a lo acontecido en el 2020 con respecto al COVID, donde uno creía que por ser una película exageraron con ciertos argumentos expuestos, pero al vivirlo, demuestra que no está lejos de la realidad. Con la segunda, fue porque tengo dos tías sobrevivientes del cáncer, mientras que unos tíos lamentablemente no, así que esta analogía entre la historia narrada y la vivencia personal es tan verdadera que, se vuelve cercado y que, lo más complicado de tomar una decisión entre la vida de uno mismo y la de otros, son los desenlaces que se vienen después de ello.
