Crazy little balls.

Critters is one of the films that are cute and have that nostalgic twist where comedy and horror are very well combined.

The film, despite 35, maintains its level and continues to entertain and scare at the same time, although in most scenes it is amusing.

This is an alternative vision of the Gremlins, but here everything is turned up to the maximum.

The film tells about a family living on a farm, the father takes care of order and helps with various jobs, the mother cooks delicious food and cares for the positive attitude of the family and of course the two children, the younger son who likes firecrackers and rock music, and the scared sister who aroused a dispute with his brother. One day, a mysterious object suddenly appears in the sky.

This facility will completely change the fate of the family.

Critters known in the galaxy bullies were to go to the luckiest prison in the entire galaxy, but bad luck, they hijack a spaceship and fly to the ground creating chaos because they are terribly hungry. The movie is very well made.

Critters look very cool, such small fur balls that attack and bite everything they can. The film is also a tribute to the films from the 1950s where various creatures raided the earth.

The film is from my childhood and you can feel this pinch of nostalgia in my text, although despite so many years the film still defends itself with a well-drawn script and interestingly realized creatures.

If any of you have not seen the movie, it is worth it because it is one of those that will be remembered for many years. in 2019, a new film was made Critters attack, however, the film turned out to be a devastating flop when it comes to execution, script and special effects.

In 1986, there were no mega computer effects, but there were practical effects and you can see it when the little Critters are moving.

A great cinema for the whole family, despite the light macabre, I recommend 8/10

I must have been 14 years young. I was a little kid back then, who grew from 5 to 6 feet in the three following years. Let me explain to you why this matters... I always looked younger than my age. My parents liked to take advantage of that, by getting age discount on musea and all. That made me feel even smaller. It also lead to it being tougher for me to do things teenagers like to do. As I didn't look like 16 or 18 when I reached that age.

Horror Movies

Long story short, around the time that I got interested in movies - back in the days when we went to video rental stores (in the mid 90s) - I probably didn't look like I was 16. That made it difficult for me to rent 16(+) movies. All this took place at a moment in my life where I really started to get into the horror genre. And I'm sure you understand that I preferred to take it a step further than just reading horror books.

As I wrote in an earlier post on 80s horror movies, months ago:

I must have been around 14 years old and I managed to rent this for my birthday. I felt very proud as I probably looked 12. I was a small kid with kind of a baby face back then.

It's possible that I bragged a little about this victory to my friends when I showed them this movie. If I remember it well, I had seen Critters before, probably on TV. I liked it so much that I felt like showing it to my friends. The fact that I was able to rent it myself - taking the above background on my height and looks into account - made all this extra special. Besides that, it was quite a scary movie for kids our age. Because, believe me, this is no children horror. Critters make the Gremlins look like puppy dogs.

I remember this to be the movie that I lost my horror virginity on. It really made me fall in love with the horror genre. It can also be considered science fiction. A perfect combination in my opinion. Furthermore, it just oozes this 80s nostalgia that always manages to put a smile on my face.

There are three follow ups, that I forgot immediately after watching them. A very young Leonardo DiCaprio plays a role in part 3.
