    Hello, how are you all? Alhamdulillah I am fine. Water is the most important thing in human life which is a unique element for human life as well as an equally important element for human death. In one word, “water is life and water is death”.

    But today I will tell you about a true incident that happened in West Virginia, where you can see what happens if there is PFOA (Perfluorooctanoic Acid) in the water and how its terrible consequences affect people and animals. Along with that we have to be aware of PFOA.

    From 1975 to about 2007, people and animals in West Virginia were, so to speak, hostages to these life-destroying chemicals. And those who can be seen against these few frauds, their characters and real events can be seen and known in today's movie amazingly.

    A veces me agrada ver películas sobre situaciones que nos hacen abrir los ojos ante lo catastrófico que puede ser nuestro propio camino como especie, en búsqueda del dinero y del poder, aunque ninguno estamos exentos, es bueno ver algunos films que de cierta manera nos llevan a confrontación de lo correcto e incorrecto, esa balanza en donde la verdad puede estar literalmente enterrada, todo esto con el condimento de "basado en una historia real" simplemente hace que me despierte la curiosidad sobre el film, en esta ocasión deseo compartir mi opinión sobre Dark Waters.

    Este es un film de drama, basado en un proceso judicial sobre una importante empresa, básicamente, es una película de investigación y abogados, incluso tendremos la posibilidad de ver a los verdaderos protagonistas de la historia en algunas escenas, un detalle que siempre me parece excelente en este tipo de producciones.

    Sinopsis

    Un abogado ambientalista recibe una visita inesperada acusando a una importante corporación de contaminar todo un condado, a pesar de sus dudas, decide investigar a fondo lo que sucede y descubrirá algo impactante, no solo para el pequeño pueblo sino para toda la nación.

    Análisis de la Película

    Me agradan este tipo de filmes, investigativos, sin acción, pero que despierta las emociones, me parece ese tipo de guiones de David contra Goliat, el débil buscando justicia contra una poderosa corporación de químicos. El filme se concentra en el histórico caso de DuPont, una sobresaliente compañía de Norteamérica que guardaba un secreto siniestro, que muchos ignoraba, y los que por alguna razón se percataban decidían que era un caso totalmente perdido, el cuestionar una corporación de tales magnitudes.

    Un Filme Conspiratorio

    Podríamos decir que el filme tiene un aroma conspiratorio, detallando las circunstancias y como este monstruo corporativo evade cualquier regulación ante sus prácticas de desechos tóxicos, ¿y las autoridades competentes?, así como en muchos casos las regulaciones no son efectivas o ignoradas, sin embargo, los que terminan soportando el peso del desastre son las personas comunes.

    ¿Demandarías al empleador y benefactor más grande de tu ciudad?

    Esa sería una pregunta fácil desde un punto de vista moral, sin embargo, las consecuencias económicas y sociales recaerían sobre el abogado y las personas que deciden dar un paso al frente. El filme nos muestra todo ese proceso, desde el descubrimiento, la investigación y ese largo caso que cuyo peso estaba haciendo estragos en muchos de manera personal.

    ¿Luchar contra DuPont?

    Me encantó una frase que uno de los socios de la firma argumenta en medio de una reunión con sus abogados sobre si se procede a la demanda contra el gigante corporativo, evidentemente muchos en esa mesa deseaban voltear la mirada a otro lado, sin embargo, ese socio dice "es por esa actitud que la gente odia a los abogados de este país" haciendo referencia que la justicia no es para todos, solamente para los poderosos.

    En lo particular, siento que este es de esos filmes que debemos ver, estar atentos y no confiar totalmente en todo lo que nos dicen, tener criterio propio y ser investigadores de la verdad, la manipulación es un juego diario en el que estamos en el centro. El filme nos muestra esos beneficios que la comunidad tenía por parte de DuPont, incluso personas que creían ciegamente en esta empresa, desechando inmediatamente cualquier culpabilidad de la corporación, creo que ver este tipo de filmes, nos mantienen alerta y nos invita a tener un criterio propio.

    Actuaciones

    Mark Ruffalo es el protagonista indiscutible, sin embargo, no me parece una actuación que le haga sobresalir, a pesar de que su personaje no otorgaba muchas expresiones, siento que su actuación es algo insípida para lo que ha representado Mark Ruffalo en la última década, a muchos no les agradan sus actuaciones y pienso que en este filme no será la excepción, siento que le falta algo a su personaje para lograr empatía con los espectadores, por supuesto, es solo una opinión personal.

    Siento que la verdadera actuación la otorgó Anne Hathaway, expresiones, emociones, desde las primeras escenas nos otorga la idea de que su actuación en el filme será significativa, por supuesto, recreando un personaje con un desenvolvimiento bastante distinto, pero que logra captar la atención desde el primer momento.

    La película nos propone una interesante historia basada en hechos reales, un filme con un ritmo lento pero adecuado, con un metraje correcto y un buen desenvolvimiento, abarcando un largo juicio desde sus inicios hasta el final. En lo particular, me hubiese encantado que el filme se concentrara en esos aspectos conspiratorios, sin embargo, es evidente que si llegaron a existir no se colocarían todos en este tipo de producciones, siento que todo se produce con cierto grado de facilidad más allá del tiempo de espera, sin embargo, el filme logra el objetivo, entretener y entregar un buen mensaje a sus espectadores.

    Sí, es un filme entretenido, pero no es para todos los gustos, ya que es una película pausada, una película sobre todo de investigación, es un tipo de filme que le agrada a buena parte de los espectadores, sobre todo, cuando es basado en un hecho real.     I like this kind of film, investigative, without action, but that stirs the emotions, it seems to me that kind of David vs. Goliath scripts, the weak seeking justice against a powerful chemical corporation. The film concentrates on the historic case of DuPont, an outstanding American company that held a sinister secret, one that many ignored, and those that did for some reason decided it was a hopeless case to question a corporation of such magnitude.

    I loved a line that one of the firm's partners argues in the middle of a meeting with his lawyers about whether to proceed with the lawsuit against the corporate giant, evidently many at that table wanted to look the other way, however, that partner says "it's because of that attitude that people hate lawyers in this country" referring that justice is not for everyone, only for the powerful.

    Mark Ruffalo is the undisputed protagonist, however, I don't think his performance stands out, even though his character didn't give many expressions, I feel that his performance is somewhat insipid for what Mark Ruffalo has represented in the last decade, many don't like his performances and I think that in this film will not be the exception, I feel that his character lacks something to achieve empathy with the viewers, of course, it's just a personal opinion.

    Hace algún tiempo había visto por allí el póster de esta película y por alguna razón no había decidido investigar su sinopsis, creo que la imagen del afiche no me resultó tan llamativa como otras que estaban cerca y la dejé pasar. Sin embargo, aparecía Mark Ruffalo, un actor a quien me gusta ver trabajar desde mucho antes de que apareciera en las cintas de Marvel e incluso antes de su nominación al Oscar, así que cuando volví a encontrarme con la cinta, decidí verla sin saber de qué se trataba, sólo confiando en los tres nombres que aparecían en la imagen.

    Dark waters, traducida al español como El precio de la verdad (¿?), es una película de 2019, dirigida por Todd Haynes (Carol, Far from heaven) y protagonizada por el ya mencionado Mark Ruffalo, junto a Anne Hathaway y Tim Robbins. Inspirada en una historia real, la cinta es un thriller legal, como sacado de los libros de John Grisham, pero con un caso que, tras la investigación, se torna no sólo interesante sino también capitalmente importante, tanto para los personajes como para los espectadores. Un tenaz abogado, Robert Bilott (Ruffalo) recibe un día la solcitud de un granjero, conocido de su madre, para interponer una demanda a una de las corporaciones más grandes de los EEUU, Dupont. Para quienes no lo sepan, si acaso los hay, se trata de una de las mayores empresas químicas del mundo, con participación en otras industrias como la fabricación de autos y es sobre todo famosa por haber desarrollado materiales de uso cotidiano tan conocidos como el neopreno, el nylon, la lycra, el plexiglás y el kevlar, entre otros.

    Ahora bien, la película gira en torno a uno de esos desarrollos de la compañía, uno tan cotidiano que le hará revisar dos veces su cocina: el teflón. Primero por curiosidad y luego con una creciente urgencia de saber si es posible que las sospechas sean ciertas, Bilott descubre el oscuro secreto que conecta un número creciente de muertes y enfermedades de ganado y de personas, con la línea de montaje del teflón dentro de la fábrica de Dupont y con la cantidad de químicos que desechan en los ríos cercanos, contaminando los pozos y las aguas que beben las personas y el ganado.

Eso le agrega intensidad a la trama, porque Bilott se convierte en el atacante de un sistema injusto e irresponsable que él mismo representaba y aunque al inicio sólo quería respuestas claras para convencerse de que no podía ser cierto, la mayor de las derrotas cae sobre sus hombros cuando descubre la verdad que tanto buscaba.

    El documental

    A propósito de los peligros del teflón de Dupont y otros productos químicos en el medio ambiente, pueden revisar también el documental de 2018 The devil we know. Lo más seguro es que después de ver la película y más aún si ven el documental, tiren todas sus ollas y sartenes a la basura y salgan corriendo a comprar unos nuevos. Pero antes de hacerlo, revisen bien qué componente fue utilizado en la elaboración de sus utensilios; actualmente hay una gran variedad y la fabricación ha sido regulada por muchos países precisamente a raíz de lo que los estudios arrojaron sobre lo venenoso que puede llegar a ser la exposición prolongada al C-8, compuesto principal utilizado en las superficies antiadherentes hasta no hace mucho tiempo. Ahora bien, que el compuesto haya resultado perjudicial para los animales y las personas, es lo menos relevante en la trama (sí, así lo digo) porque el drama principal es que la empresa ya lo sabía. No fue un accidente, no fue ignorancia o descuido, durante décadas hubo una estructura de negación, ocultamiento y manipulación de información y de instituciones para que nadie se diera cuenta de que Dupont estaba haciendo billones de dólares mientras mataba conscientemente a sus trabajadores y a los ciudadanos que vivían cerca de su planta de producción.

    Si te gustan los thrillers legales, las teorías conspirativas y las historias en las que la ambición de las grandes corporaciones no tiene escrúpulos, ni siquiera a pesar de la vida de los suyos, entonces esta película es para ti. Ahora que si no lo es, igual puedes acercarte porque, de una u otra forma, el tema te interesa. Todos estamos rodeados de objetos domésticos cuya composición y origen desconocemos; tal vez sea hora de mirar con atención. Y si, claro, una película puede despertarnos de esta manera y lo hace con un guión muy bien escrito, con Ruffalo, Hathaway y Robbins y además, basándose en una historia de la vida real, no puedo darle menos que un 7/10 y recomendarla a todos ustedes, especialmente a quienes cuentan con la plataforma de Amazon Prime Video que, creo, tiene mejores películas que su rival Netflix. Pero bueno, eso es un tema para debatir en otra oportunidad.

    We all know that industrial activities can often cause severe contamination in some areas due to the chemicals that are in use. Most of this time the contamination is properly contained and no one is hurt nor affected. But this isn't always the case.

    Dupont is one of the most popular companies in its sector, it is a real industrial titan that sadly has some dark secrets in its recent past regarding its irresponsible use of toxic chemicals in its products and factories.

    In this movie, we will see the struggle of a lawyer portrayed by Mark Ruffalo, in this David vs Goliath battle against the huge company that is willing to use every dirty little corporate and "legal" trick to get away with their irresponsibility.

    Ruffalo gives a great performance as the lawyer, this guy is not only a great Hulk but also a great actor. We will also find Anne Hathaway playing the wife and Tim Robbins playing another older lawyer. These 3 are the main names of the movie and they all play their part very well.

    Since this is a corporate drama we will find several hard to watch scenes as some victims of the contamination need to face this horrible damage. The main victim is a farmer that is unable to stop the deterioration of his livelihood.

    As far as I understand, this is a legal battle that is still going on despite several positive victories for the victims in real life. The damage Dupont caused has been tremendous and by the end, the movie shares some scary statistics regarding this contamination in humans.

    Given its topic, I consider this a must-watch film. Most people will be surprised and shocked by the information this movie provides about big corporate misbehaviors.

    The best

    • The movie provides important information about the dirty tricks huge corporations are willing to do to stop the public from realizing the dramatic reach of their use of toxic chemicals.
    • Good overall acting, by the 3 main names and the farmer (Bill Camp) was also great.

    The worst

    • I am pretty sure I have seen a similar movie in the past but can't quite recall its name. The topic of the humble lawyer fighting a big corporation sounds familiar to me, I had several déjà vu moments while watching this flick. However, the fact this is a biographical film gives it value nonetheless.
    • Despite the severity of the topic at hand, the movie felt stretched at a little more than 2 hours long. It could have been more concise.
