  1. Impacto Profundo/Una Película Que Debes Ver Antes De Morir (Esp-Eng)@yelimarin776d

Hello everyone, friends, lovers of the seventh art and good productions, today I want to share with you a movie that as I indicated in the title, you should see before you die and precisely because it refers to what may be the end of the world or one of the possibilities of how it could end. The plot shows how in an inspection some young people and their teacher observe something that looks like a star or perhaps a satellite and send it to a specialist in astronomy to investigate, this to make the study realizes that these images are not usual according to their readings, is alarmed and tries to investigate in depth, but when he is on his way in his vehicle is the victim of a traffic accident and could not know this finding at the time. However, we later learned that the White House and allies knew of the existence of this gigantic asteroid that would impact the earth at a certain time and began to prepare to destroy it. This news had to be announced after a Journalist found out about this discovery and thus avoid her to report it unofficially.

This is when we see the President of the United States of America informing the world of the discovery of a giant asteroid, but this time they are facing one that will impact the earth, but with enormous proportions, compared to the size of New York, so it was also announced that since its discovery, the American and Russian nations have made alliances to build a kind of ship where they can reach the asteroid and impact it before it could impact the earth. So the team of specialists go into space and prepare for an arduous task. This movie caught my attention despite being a 1998 film, I think it is important to see it, because it shows a theory of what could be the end of the world and how we are vulnerable to natural and atmospheric phenomena. Nowadays, measurements and strategies to face natural catastrophes are more advanced, but it is not something we have total control over, we all know that the end is near, but we do not know how it will be or if we will witness it.

For many the world ends when they die and others work all their lives thinking of living to the fullest in an uncertain future, I have heard from religious people that the end is near and every day we see nations confronting each other for wealth, power and religion. But to know how everything will end is something that are only theories, many times I have believed that the end will be to confront each other, nation against nation, and every day we see great world powers creating biological and nuclear weapons, they are just there waiting for the best moment, they are all enemies and at the same time the best allies. This movie makes me think that we are never prepared for the end, neither economically, nor mentally, to live in a post apocalyptic environment and that without a doubt sooner or later it will happen.

The filmmakers have shown several hypotheses in which the human being can always defy nature, but until when will this be possible, if in front of a huge universe we turn out to be just another tiny particle. In the plot of this movie the President has announced that everything will remain calm, safe, with the same price, however, he orders his troops to return home. How often do we realize that phenomena like this can in the blink of an eye wipe out humanity, as happened with the dinosaurs millions of years ago. Deep Impact surprised me with its special effects for the date of its release, but at the same time made me reflect on life itself and what we are exposed to, where not only are natural phenomena, but also the same human being preparing lethal viruses to kill the over population, to enrich pharmaceutical companies especially in the poorest countries, where they are used as guinea pigs. After COVID and seeing all the chaos that this generated in the population, the fear, the hopelessness, we continue to think about what will happen, how far we are able to overcome, how far the will to live gives us hope or lives versa and if we can be prepared for whatever comes, whatever it may be. It is about living one day at a time or preparing for the worst scenarios. It is difficult to know and even more so when we live in countries where we are not used to war. In this film we see how some cities are prepared to preserve with humanity following a protocol that we have seen in more current films.

This production was directed by Mimi Leder and released in 1998, having good special effects for the time, the film does not end with a devastating ending as perhaps expected, so you should see what is the alternative that these astronauts use to safeguard the human species. The images were extracted from filmaffinity, I used the translator DeepL. *

  2. "Deep Impact" by Mimi Leder: When did a movie made you cry?@afterglow945d

    Greetings!

In terms of movies, the decade of the 1990s made lots of contributions in terms of great movies with great stories and great filmmaking. I think the 1990s is one of the decades of the golden age of movies. With that being said, there are lots of great movies from the 1990s and one of them is "Deep Impact". Deep Impact made such a mark that even today the younger generations are able to enjoy and marvel at the story and how Deep Impact was made.

The narrative of Deep Impact is all about stressful, sad, and fast-paced situations that the characters of the movie undergo because there are only hours left whether they live or die in the coming comet that will strike Earth. It is also a movie with some twists and I am sure this is one of the movies that is some of its scene will not be easily predictable.

I actually watched Deep Impact in a cinema when it was released here in our country (in 1998). I can still remember that when I entered the cinema it was S.R.O. already. It is one of the movies that I like very much. And today, I am going to watch it again for this review.

Deep Impact has one of the best first scenes that I can remember. It started with science-themed scenes and then pivoted to a scene about personal matters that turned out to be related to the first scene. Never did I think of something that would lead to a bigger picture than just an act of infidelity by a high-ranking official of the government of the United States of America. I must say that the first part of the story of the movie is a masterpiece, well-written, and well-thought-out.

I like the scene from normal to intense when Dr. Marcus Wolf was checking the trajectory of the photo of the comet that was sent to him (the photo which Leo Biederman took on the night of Astronomy Club of Lee High School).

The scene where Dr. Marcus Wolf found out that the comet is in a collision course with Earth

The scene where Dr. Marcus Wolf has to die in his attempt to tell the world about the comet is brilliant. The death of Dr. Marcus Wolf made me very very curious about what would happen next. It is brilliant because it leaves you guessing how the hell the government was able to know the news that Dr. marcus Wolf is to tell. And then that was it for the opening scene of the movie then it pivoted one year later.

Then it gets confusing and interesting when Jenny Lerner found herself in a beach near the yatch of the former Secretary of the Treasury Alan Rittenhouse because of a "lead" about a presumed "infidelity" of Alan Rittenshouse which of course led Jenny Lerner to believe that in fact Alan Rittenhouse is having an affair which led him to resign from the White House.

The scene where Jenny Lerner and Alan Rittenhouse talking about a presumed mistress "Ellie"

Then there's the scene that made me nervous. It is when Jenny Lerner's car was pinned down by four FBI cars in a highway. One car rammed the back of her car twice in order for her to get the message that she needs to stop the car. The scene is brilliant because it led me to believe that she would be in serious trouble because of the story that she is investigating, the story about a presumed mistress "Ellie".

This is one of the most nervous scene of the movie. When Jenny Lerner was picked up by FBI agents by force

And then the big revelation in the succeeding scene when Jenny Lerner learned that "Ellie" is actually an acronym E.L.E. which is about extinction, this time about the extinction of human as we now it.

The scene where Jenny Lerner learned about E.L.E. an event where the government tried hard to conceal because of the very reason that there will be panic

After Jenny Lerner learned the truth about ELE it made me cry. I have never watched a film that made me cry in just under 30 minutes. And Deep Impact is one of the few movies that saw which made me cry.

Then there's the brilliant transition of scene while the President is simultaneously speaking on a national television. It is one of the best scene transitions that I have ever since it perfectly syncs with the voice of the President while speaking in the national television while scenes are transitioning one after another.

There are also twists in the movie where I thought all is lost and the crew of the Messiah is now going home but it was revealed that one of the crew is thinking of detonating the remaining nuclear so that the comet will be destroyed into pieces. Another twist of the movie is when Leo Beiderman chose to leave the shelter in order to be with his wife Sarah.

With all the twists, the scenes of Leo Beiderman, the scenes of Janny Lerner the film is brilliantly transitioned to perfection. You will not get bored watching. In fact it will keep you at the edge of your seat all the time.

All in all the movie is great. It is by far one of the best ELE movies to date. Since then, I haven't seen a movie as good as Deep Impact. It's story is great, with great filmmaking, and great actors. Morgan Freeman is superb on this one, that is why I like Moregan Freeman a lot.

I recommend this movie if you are looking for something to watch. And there are actually a lot of movies out there but none comes close to this one.

Note: All images on this blog was taken from the movie itself.

That is all for now guys, catch you up with the next one. Wishing you all safety, good health, and abundance.

Today I will share "Deep Impact", is a science fiction film released in 1998 starring Elijah Wood, Téa Leoni and Morgan Freeman directed by Mimi Leder and Robert Duvall that coincided with the premiere of Armaggedom. Synopsis Leo Biederman (Elijah Wood) makes a frightening discovery, a cluster of stars a large white spot that turns out to be a comet that is about to hit the Earth. Meanwhile, Jenny Learner (Téa Leoni), an ambitious NBC reporter, tracing a possible scandalous story of a senator, accidentally discovers that Ellie (ELE) is not the name of his lover, but of a comet that threatens to destroy the Earth.

    Curiosities:

    • Steven Spielberg was interested in directing this film "too".

    • The first edition of Deep Impact had more scenes with the characters of Elijah Wood and Leelee Sobieski.

    • The scene in which the character Jenny Lerner meets the president was filmed in the kitchen where Senator Robert Kennedy was assassinated in 1968.

    • At the beginning of the film, we can see on Dr. Wolf's computer the date May 10, 1998. This was the launch day of the movie.

    • This movie has many similarities with Armageddon released a few months later. Many label it as twin movies.
