   Although I am not a fan of horror or mystery movies (personally I prefer action movies) I must confess that the Sunday tedium forced me to join my family to review the Netflix catalog and submit to what the majority decided. The film of choice was Eli, which is about a boy apparently sick with a rare condition that keeps him isolated from the rest of the people, he literally lives inside a kind of bubble and when he goes outside the house he does it wearing a kappler suit, in this way his parents take him to a house located in a remote place where a doctor promises to cure him of his illness, however soon the boy notices that the house is inhabited by strange entities that although they seem to harass him at the beginning, they are actually trying to protect him from a greater danger.

   Aunque no soy fanático de las películas de terror o misterio (personalmente prefiero las de acción) debo confesar que el tedio dominguero me forzó a unirme a mi familia a revisar el catalogo de Netflix y someterme a lo que la mayoría decidiera. La película electa fue Eli, la cual trata sobre un niño aparentemente enfermo con una rara condición que lo mantiene aislado del resto de personas, literalmente vive dentro de una especie de burbuja y cuando sale al exterior de la casa lo hace portando un traje kappler, de esta manera sus padres lo llevan a una casa ubicada en un lugar remoto donde una doctora promete curarlo de su enfermedad, no obstante al poco tiempo el niño nota que la casa está habitada por extrañas entidades que aunque parecen acosarlo al inicio, en realidad están intentando protegerlo de un peligro mayor.

   You must watch it to draw your own conclusions but honestly I felt that several scenes were confusing, for example, sometimes it was hard to distinguish in the scenes, when it was a real fact or a hallucination or dream of Eli, maybe that was the goal of the film, that you feel as confused as the protagonist, but I don't know if I like that so much. Nevertheless I think the performances are really good, especially the children, Eli (the protagonist) whose desperation was latent in the most interesting scenes, and Hayley, the girl who talks to him through the glass of the greenhouse, her enigmatic smile and self-sufficient attitude made you doubt at times whether or not she was a good person.

   Debes verla para sacer tus propias conclusiones pero honestamente yo sentí que varias escenas eran confusas, por ejemplo, a veces me costaba distinguir en las escenas, cuando era un hecho real o una alucinación o sueño de Eli, tal vez ese era el objetivo de la película, que te sintieras tan confundido como el protagonista, pero no sé si eso me gusta tanto. No obstante creo que las actuaciones son realmente buenas, en especial la de los niños, Eli (el protagonista) cuya desesperación se hacía latente en las escenas más interesantes , y Hayley, la chica que habla con él a través del cristal del invernadero, su sonrisa enigmática y actitud autosuficiente te hacía dudar por momentos si era o no una buena persona.

   The cinematography was well achieved because for a horror movie they didn't abuse blurred filters or dark tones as they always do, the story is not bad either, and although honestly the ending didn't please me, since this kind of plot twist is becoming more of a cliché lately, I understand that many people may find it interesting, in fact, at the end of the day it's hard to pinpoint who is good and who is bad, it also raises questions like “Does mother's love justify lying?”.

   La fotografía estuvo bien lograda porque para ser una película de terror no abusaron de los filtros borrosos o los tonos oscuros como siempre hacen, la historia tampoco es mala, y aunque honestamente el final no me agradó, ya que este tipo de giro de trama se está volviendo más bien un cliché últimamente, entiendo que a muchas personas les pueda parecer interesante, de hecho, al final de cuentas es difícil precisar quien es bueno y quien es malo, también hace que surjan preguntas como "¿El amor de madre justifica la mentira?".

   What I do find interesting is that beyond the ghosts (which really have a frightening appearance) what scares the viewer the most is that horrible feeling of not being able to trust anyone, of feeling betrayed. in the end, did good or evil triumph? That will depend on how you look at it and the opinion of each viewer.

   Lo que sí, de verdad me parece interesante es que más allá de los fantasmas (que realmente tienen una apariencia atemorizante) lo que más asusta al espectador es esa sensación horrorosa de no poder confiar en nadie, de sentirse traicionado. al final ¿triunfó el bien o el mal? Eso dependerá del cristal con que se mire y de la opinión de cada espectador.

   Eli, es un niño con una extraña enfermedad autoinmune que no puede tener una vida normal. Sus padres, desesperados, recurren a los tratamientos poco probados de una doctora aislada de todo pero que asegura que todos sus pacientes, se curaron de todos sus males gracias a sus milagrosos y poco confiables tratamientos para curar enfermedades desconocidas.

   A partir de que la familia se aloja en la casa de esta doctora (Que tambien es su mini hospital) las cosas para Eli, se ponen cada vez mas terroríficas ya que no solo los tratamientos son aterradores sino que comienzan a perseguirlo unas supuestas alucinaciones de espectros. En vez de mejorar, solo empeora mas y mas.

   Eli is a boy with a strange autoimmune disease who cannot have a normal life. His desperate parents turn to the untested treatments of a doctor isolated from everything but who claims that all her patients were cured of all their ailments thanks to her miraculous and unreliable treatments for unknown diseases.

   From the moment the family stays at the doctor's house (which is also her mini hospital), things for Eli become increasingly frightening, as not only are the treatments terrifying, but he also begins to be pursued by supposed hallucinations of specters. Instead of improving, he only worsens more and more.

   La película es de terror sobrenatural pero siendo honesta, de terror no tiene nada y miren que es raro que a mi no me guste una película de terror.

   Comienza con una trama fuerte pero a partir de la aparición de los espectros, el argumento se cae no por el suelo sino por el subsuelo ya que empiezan a salir cosas totalmente sin sentido que son sacadas quien sabe de donde y uno se queda como ¿Qué paso acá?

   Debo admitir que la primera mitad, es bastante buena. Podes sentir el terror y el dolor tanto de Eli como de los padres y sabes que algo, no anda bien en ese hospital alejado de la sociedad. Esperas algo grotesco y te salen con algo que da risa. Es totalmente incoherente.

   The movie is a supernatural horror but to be honest, it is not scary at all and it's rare for me to not like a horror movie.

   It starts with a strong plot but once the ghosts appear, the storyline falls apart, not just on the ground but deep underground, because totally nonsensical things start happening out of nowhere and you're left wondering "What happened here?"

   I must admit that the first half is quite good. You can feel the terror and pain of both Eli and the parents, and you know that something is not right in that isolated hospital. You expect something grotesque and they give you something laughable. It's completely incoherent.

   Para pasar el rato, esta bien pero si buscas horror, esta no es tu película. El final de la misma, termina dando cringe y risa a la vez, de verdad no se que quisieron hacer pero bueno, si algo hay que decir a favor es que los efectos especiales son espectaculares.

   La primera mitad de la peli y dichos efectos son cosas que rescato pero por lo demás, no tengo nada mas que decir aunque eso si, al salirse con tantas cosas extrañas, al principio crees una cosa y al final es otra totalmente descabellada sacada de la galera. El factor sorpresa siempre digo suma pero en este caso, resta y hubiera preferido que sea un cliché mas y no querer sorprender con algo absurdo. Los actores tampoco suman ya que no son de los mejores pero bueno, si la ven tal vez les guste y esta es solo mi opinión.

   Le doy 4/10. Para pasar el rato esta bien como dije je,je,je ¡Saludos!

   To pass the time, it's okay, but if you're looking for horror, this is not your movie. The ending, in fact, gives both cringe and laughter at the same time. I really don't know what they were trying to do, but well, if there's one thing to say in its favor, it's that the special effects are spectacular.

   The first half of the film and those effects are things that I appreciate, but other than that, I have nothing else to say. Although, I must say that by deviating with so many strange things, you start believing one thing at the beginning and end up with something completely absurd pulled out of the hat. I always say that the element of surprise adds value, but in this case, it subtracts and I would have preferred it to be a more cliché film instead of trying to surprise with something absurd. The actors also don't add much since they are not the best, but well, if you watch it, maybe you'll like it. And this is just my opinion.

   I give it a 4 out of 10. It's okay for passing the time, like I said, hehehe. Greetings!

3. ›Eli (horror film) : A few good jump scares but mostly kinda boring / annoying@gooddream2442d

   The search goes on for a newish horror film and to be fair to Eli i went into this movie halfway expecting to not like it since generally speaking I am not a fan of child actors, particularly not those in the lead.

   The film is very vague in its description and I will do the same when writing about it here. As always, i have tried to steer clear of spoilers but there is always a chance that I might slip up. If you want to see this film "blind" it's probably better to just skip this write-up

   Basically Eli is a story about a young boy who has an extremely rare disease that causes him to have severe allergic reactions to just about everything. He cannot be exposed to normal air or water and therefore must spend all of his days living inside of a bubble tent that completely isolates him from the outside world.

   His parents have discovered a doctor that has success at curing his disease and the in the first 10 minutes of the film he is transported to the remote facility.

   Upon arriving at the rather spooky looking medical facilities and Eli starts seeing things that no one else can. This is where some of the very interesting cinematography and direction choices result in some pretty cool jump scares. Unfortunately, the rest of the story is pretty slow-moving, boring, and to be totally honest impractical, even for a supernatural horror film.

   Without being too specific, the things that Eli discovers normally occur in a rather noisy fashion, yet no one comes to his aid even though he is obviously the center of attention at this facility. It has already been well established that the entire facility is closely monitored which makes this sort of very noisy stuff that no one notices a bit dumb. Also, when these things continually happen to Eli and still no one monitors the little dude, it just becomes really impractical.

   I think the thing that annoyed me the most is that Eli (Charlie Shotwell) spends a great deal of the film shouting and it starts to grind at my nerves when any actor does this. Granted Shotwell is new to the game and I tend to not care for child actors anyway, but there isn't much of a story here except Eli doing a bunch of shouting for at least half of the film. It must have been exhausting filming that.

   The film had an $11 million budget and that is easy to see because the effects that are in the movie are few and far between but are actually extremely well-done. However, since there isn't really much of a story here, there is an absolute ton of just.... junk... that takes place between the maybe half a dozen "fun parts" of the film (some of which i was actually scared to look at the screen.)

   Overall, the slow pacing and obvious filler-to-make-this-short-story-90-minutes-long is the death of this movie, and I can't really recommend it aside from a few scenes and for most movie fans, this simply isn't enough.

   My overall rating on a scale of "Urgh!" to "Wowsers"?
