[Spoiler Alert!] Arrowverse Crossover Event: 'ElseWorlds' Episode 3 Quick Review@petermarie2758d

It's the Arrowverse annual crossover week! And this year's crossover event titled 'ElseWorlds' concluded last night on this week's episode of Supergirl. Here's my quick review, comprising mainly of what I liked the most, and what I hated. I'll be dropping a more complete review sometime tomorrow.

So let's go!

First off, 'My name is John Deagan, and I'm from Gotham...' Like, what the frack? John Deagan, the villain of the crossover is introducing the eposide?! Well makes sense... He essentially has reality under his grip, right? But it makes more sense when we find out, through the intro montage, that he has actually used the book to turn himself into black-suit Superman, the same superman that flew in to stop Oliver and Barry at the end of the last episode. This is actually the first time the Arrowverse has used the opening montage to contribute to the story, and it's quite cool.

Turns out the Book of Destiny doesn't see other Earths, so Deagan didn't know of either Clark or Kara... Until Clark came with them in the first episode. Still, he doesn't know who they are or where they came from and therefore, couldn't mess with Kara's destiny. Why he permitted Oliver and Barry to recall their real identities is something the crossover doesn't address.

And it turns out Alex Danvers does exist on Earth-1! That was a great reveal.

The part of the episode which would undoubtedly have gotten the most screams out of fans however, is the very last scene and the final frame. Heaven knows I screamed. Here, psycho pirate, who was last seen at Arkham Asylum in Gotham is seen talking to Dr. Deagan in an adjacent cell telling him 'All is as it's meant to be, because something was about to happen... Worlds would die, and nothing would be the same.', followed by the writing: 'Crisis on Infinte Earths, Fall 2019'.

For me, it was quite shocking. I didn't expect Crisis until 2024, as we've seen previously on the Flash future newspaper. Personally, I'm hoping Crisis on Infinite Earth goes beyond the usual crossover. Heaven knows it could take a whole 13 episodes and that would still not be enough. At least two weeks, with the shows involved, including Batwoman.

Oh well. Guess we'll see. A year is a long time.

Finally... The son of Superman might be coming to the Arrowverse! Lois is pregnant for Clark!!! Awesome! The episode ends with him proposing, which was so sweet. And since he's returning to Argo with Lois, it also explains why he won't be around to help Kara out with stuff. Nicely done, guys.

Oh, and one more thing. The Legends weren't involved... Except for Gary, who was downright hilarious as usual.

It's the Arrowverse annual crossover week! And after a first episode which aired Sunday night, this year's crossover event titled 'ElseWorlds' continued last night on the episode of Arrow. Here's my quick review, comprising mainly of what I liked the most, and what I hated. I'll be dropping a more complete review at the end of the crossover.

So let's go!

This episode got me cracking up from the very first second. The writers included the usual Arrow starting statement 'My name is Oliver Queen', except Oliver was played and voiced by Grant Gustin who usually plays the Flash. The entire opening montage, with scenes we'd already seen Stephen Amell in were included with Grant instead. This is made more hilarious by the fact that this is Oliver's first montage since he got out of prison and began working with the SCPD.

Perhaps this set the tone for the entire episode because I loved it much better than the first. The stakes were really focused on and they were on track with the mission throughout, mostly steered by John, who pays good homage to the previous crossovers when he says 'An immortal Egyptian, Aliens, Nazis from another dimension... I don't know why I'm surprised'. And he's absolutely right when he mentions the fact that no one sees the Green Arrow, the Flash and Supergirl together unless there's serious trouble. Nice call out, guys!

Anyway, the introduction of Kate Kane was another thing I really liked. This was not a backdoor pilot for the Batwoman show... just a way of telling us that she does exist in that city Gotham that no one goes to and no one talks about. Plus she's just beginning to rebuild Wayne Enterprises, so she hasn't really been on scene that long. When Kara talks to Kate, you can almost get that she knows Bruce is actually Batman which is what you'd expect, but she doesn't know if Kate knows or not. In true superhero-code fashion, she doesn't reveal this to the others, and neither does she call out Batwoman as Kate when she arrives to help out. Or at least not publicly.

I'd begun to ask why the Doctor had made such small, silly changes to reality but this episode answers that as well. Turns out there's a bit of a learning curve, and the Doctor doesn't think that big.

And the arrival of the Flash from Earth-90 was awesome! The episode didn't really explain why it was so difficult for him to get here but I'm just going with the assumption that it has to do with the idea that Earth-90 is really far from Earth-1 and has been erased anyway. However, I was pretty surprised when none of the characters, especially the geek ones, reacted when he mentioned that he was from Earth-90. I mean, there were supposed to be only 53 Earths, right?

Finally, it was good of them not to linger long on that Barry Allen, just long enough to give speculating fans that long awaited satisfaction that somewhere in the multiverse, John Diggle is indeed a Green Lantern, pay homage to the 90s Flash series, and show us just how powerful the Monitor really is. Oh, and he tells us his plan too, which makes a lot of sense.

The episode ended on a true note of anticipation... I can't wait for the final part to drop later tonight on the Supergirl episode!

The episode began with the same scene that ended last week's episode of all three shows, showing the destruction of Earth-90. After that, Oliver wakes up as Barry Allen. From here on out, it's mainly comedy throughout the episode, most of which were very good, but something I kind of hated. I understand the writers are throttling back on the intensity of the crossover anyway... this episode was really a Flash episode, unlike last year where all episodes were only titled after the crossover. Maybe that set the tone for it too... The Flash is a pretty jolly show.

The faces of barry and Oliver when they wake up into their new lives are instant classics.

After that they get together, and I really love how each has the other's instincts, else it would be crazily time wasting to to begin training each other on how to use their skill sets.

The Smallville easter eggs are pretty crazy as well. From the opening soundtrack (Save me by Remy Zero) to the Kent Farm itself, to Clark's truck and the Lois Lane character, all are modeled after the old show. For an instant, I thought perhaps the writers wanted to make Kara's earth the same as Smallville's, but that wouldn't make much sense as Smallville had already seen a Green Arrow before Clark became Superman. Which brings me to what I hated about that--so many huge Easter eggs just for easter egg sake can be pretty annoying. Especially when the same Easter eggs could've been used for something bigger.

Lastly, the Amazo robot thing really felt like a filler. While it helped Barry and Oliver learn how to use and coordinate their new abilities, it drew us away from teh main issues of the crossover a bit too much in my perspective. And superman's presence didn't even seem that much needed. Hopefully, the robot isn't totally gone. It has so much potential!

Anyway, I know I wrote more of dislikes than likes, but the episode was really fun. Just don't go into it expecting the kind of stakes and tension we've felt in the last couple of crossover events. This really is way smaller, but yet, way bigger.

Oh, yeah... And the lightning rod line totally worked.
