  1. Racist? Tightly Paced! End Of The Road (2022) || Movie Review.@esther-emmanuel1210d

    IMG_20230306_090539.jpg

They say, "A mother brings out her hunter's skills when her children are in danger and you don't want to be the prey when she hunts". "End Of The Road (2022)" reminded me of the quote above. Now, I know the title of my post looks strange Haha, but hear me out till the end then you understand why I wrote my title like that. Watching this movie was an intense thrill for me because I was tense throughout the movie and I will consider this movie as a controversial one because the sensitive topic of Racism was tested hard, hence why I wrote the title like that.

"End Of The Road (2022)" is a Netflix original movie that was directed by Millicent Shelton and written by Christopher J. Moore with David Loughery. This movie is an American Crime thriller film that starred Queen Latifah, Ludacris, Mychala Lee, Shaun Dixon, and Beau Bridges. It is a movie whose plot revolves around an ER Nurse, who is moving to her mother's place with her two children and her Brother, but then their road turns into hell in a desert in the middle of Arizona. Brenda had to switch survival mode to keep her family alive.

    Little Synopsis.

    IMG_20230306_115649.jpg

    IMG_20230306_115902.jpg

It starts with Brenda preparing to relocate her two children Cam and Kelly to Houston (her mother's place) because she had to give up their house to pay off debts owed when her deceased husband was sick with Cancer. Reggie (Brenda's brother) joined them to move to Houston. On the other hand, we were introduced to a scene where two men recover a bag of money from a Cartel called Sinola for their boss named “Mr. Cross". After the transaction was successful, one of the men, Harvey shot his partner in the head and took the bag of money with him.

    IMG_20230306_120043.jpg

Back to Brenda and her family during their drive towards Arizona, they had to stop for a gas refill and Kelly encountered two young white silly boys who made flirtatious whistles and glances at her but out of irritation, she gave them the middle finger, rejecting their advances. The white boys wouldn't have it. So they went after Brenda after they left the gas station and went ahead to block the road. Brenda realized that her daughter was at fault for how she dismissed the boys and had no option but to step out of the car to apologize to them as the silly white required. With that behind them, Brenda logged her family in a cheap motel called Sunset valley to rest for the night deep within Arizona.

    IMG_20230306_120303.jpg

So they were fast asleep when they heard violent sounds and a gunshot from the room next to theirs. Brenda, an ER Nurse, rushed to the room and saw a man (Harvey) bleeding out from a gunshot wound to the neck. Giving the man first aid treatment she told Kelly to call the police while Reggie assisted her, but unfortunately, the man died. Reggie discovered a bag of money in the deceased room and took it.

    IMG_20230306_120430.jpg

This bag of money happened to belong to the Drug boss, Mr. Cross which puts them under the microscope of Mr. Cross. Will they survive? Will Mr. Cross get his money back?

    Racist?

As I said earlier, this movie was termed racist by a lot of people which made the movie controversial and the director was blamed for this. To me, this movie is not racist and the director did a fantastic job. I see it as a necessity, a sensitive topic that needs to be portrayed in movies so people don't assume that racism is fading away. Let's not forget that in the South, like Arizona racism is still very severe there and in some particular countries. It may look like it paints white people badly, but honestly, that's how it is in those countries or towns. The movie just painted the perfect reality of an average black family in that situation and this movie was mild. In real life, it will be more brutal than that. If the reverse was the case, I bet you this movie won't be considered racist and won't be rated low.

    My Review And Rating

I watched this movie because after reading all the negative reviews of some angry people, I became curious and I wanted to see what this movie was all about for myself. For me, this movie is amazing and it was enjoyable for me. Though I have a slight problem with the plot which seems too predictable to me. From the beginning of the movie, I knew the identity of Mr. Cross (Antagonist) and it was easy for me to spot him as the villain. There was no mystery to his identity which is the flaw of the plot. Aside from that, it was well written. The storyline is a reflection of a normal average Black family in that kind of situation which I know worse scenarios would have happened before.

Let's not forget how the storyline of this movie explored themes like morality (which was in the case of Reggie when he stole the bag of money from the motel and Brenda returned the money) and survival (which in the case of Brenda fighting relentlessly to make sure no harm came to her family. She did give up regardless of many obstacles and setbacks she faced).

The development of the characters was okay, except for Mr. Cross' character which I feel should have been developed in a mysterious way that will keep the audience guessing who is actually the villain. Then, Reggie's role was thinly built. I didn't really connect with his character that much but the rest of the characters were all good, especially Brenda. I admire her bravery. My favorite characters are Cam and Brenda and Kelly was annoying to me.

The action scenes were shot well and very vivid. Nothing was blown out of human proportion. It felt real and it was easy to relate to how Brenda fought for her life and her loved ones at the same time. The stunts were realistic and natural. The location was perfect for the movie, the scene arrangements were also amazing and the camera work was fantastic. Violence, foul language, and gore were controlled but the message was conveyed perfectly.

Rating this movie, I will give it 4 out of 5 stars. I will recommend this movie to crime and thriller flick lovers and also to Queen Latifah's fans. It was a short and fantastic watch for me. The action was tightly paced and when the movie ended, I felt like it was quick. If you have watched it, go watch it now and ignore all the negative critics.

Welcome my dear movie maniacs to another of my reviews in the cinematic universe.

One of the movies that has surprised me a lot from the low popularity it has, being this a great movie that shows us the value of family, is called END OF THE ROAD, a movie of the drama and crime genre.
Two of the actors that I recognize that I have seen in other movies are here, who do an excellent job to introduce us to two great characters, first we have Brenda (Queen Latifah) and Reggie (Ludacris), both present us with great characters full of love for their family and money, who are involved in a dangerous journey because of bad decisions.

    imagen.png

    HISTORIA

    STORY

The story begins with Brenda's family, who has two children, a teenager named Kelly (Mychala Lee) and a boy named Cam (Shaun Dixon), who are in a move to go to another city in search of a better job, as Brenda had just been widowed by the death of her husband, so she has all the responsibility in this family, although she is not alone because her younger brother is with her.

Brenda is a very familiar woman, strict and very patient, she is upright and does not like problems in the family, so it has not been easy for her to bear all the problems that her children have every day, even more when they are siblings because they fight almost all the time.
But in the course of the trip they will live a series of problems even greater than the ones they have, turning this trip into a world of suffering, dangers and above all mystery.

    imagen.png

THE LOST CASE OF HIS BROTHER

In the family there are always problems, besides being the only people we have in this huge world we can never leave them alone no matter how strong the problems are, we must always support them, but it is not that we should allow some things, in the case of betrayal they can no longer be near us as we would like because of the serious damage they have caused us, but we can always have them there because the important thing is to know who is who.

Brenda's brother is a hopeless case, Reggie is a man who is not afraid of anything even the laws, he uses a lot of drugs and always has a love for money, although he has nothing, his sister Brenda is the one who always helps him to solve the problems, but even so despite the flaws he has, Brenda does not stop loving him.

But his love for money will bring problems not only to himself, but to his whole family.

If I got you a bag full of money, would you take it?

Personally I wouldn't take it, because you don't know where it comes from, you don't know if it was stolen, comes from a murder or from a huge mafia organization.

    imagen.png

YOU CAN'T EVEN TRUST YOUR OWN SHADOW.

Life sometimes we live situations where we meet someone we trust and they end up betraying us, that will happen in this movie too, everyone is fake and pretends to want to help when they don't and they will always try to hit us where it hurts the most.

This movie gives us a hard blow with reality, because it shows us that whoever pretends to be good in reality is not, we must be perspicacious and not trust anyone in this type of situations, because otherwise we will go through very dangerous and painful situations.

    imagen.png

I really liked this movie, I still can not understand why it has not had good reviews, if the story is quite complete and at the same time is very intriguing, here we are presented at all times the true value of the family, as in this film we can see all the situations that this little family has lived and that despite the complications are always united.
The fears and mysteries, including how corrupt a person can become just for the money, without many of the situations that Brenda has had to cope, I even liked her attitude and role in this film, we can not cry over the problems of everyday life, the important thing is to give face and fight for all things to go well.

I give this movie an 8 out of 10, since its story and its development have been great, a little scary because of the kidnappings that can be observed from it, but otherwise I thought it was good.

It has a duration of 1 hour with 30 minutes approximately, we can find it in the page of Netflix.

  3. End Of the Road - Another bad Netflix movie to avoid@stevenson71307d
In one of my posts in retrospect, I spoke about making a list of shit tv shows and films on Netflix, or in general. We talk about great TV all the time, but we don't do the same for bad ones. At least it helps people know what to expect or avoid, amongst other things. This particular one is not actually bad per see, but it's just another average movie on Netflix, with a couple of big stars but a generic plot, and nothing special. So, on today's episode of shit Netflix shows, I share with you, END OF THE ROAD.

    2-648.jpg

    ABOUT

The movie follows the chronicles of a small family of four. Brenda Beaumont played by Queen Latifah, is the mother of two kids, a boy, and a girl, and she also has a younger brother. After spending a lot and eventually, losing her husband to cancer, she plunges into debt and she has to move her family from California to Texas. The kids sure as hell don't like it, but it must be done. Unknown to them, they are about to have a crazy adventure on their long road trip.

    THE GOOD

One of the good things about the movie is that it has great actors, well, just two of them. Queen Latifah and Ludacris. Maybe that's not a good thing even, still, it has big stars. You know, thinking about it now, I honestly see no decent takeaway from the movie. Feels like a try-hard. The first part of the movie was decent, but what followed, sheesh; cringe as hell.

    THE BAD

Oh Lord where do I begin? The script was bad, the plot and acting were so clumsy, and everything was completely ludicrous (pun intended). The lighting and coloring were not enticing at the very least. Oh my God, talk about the plot. From the very onset, you could quite tell who the bad guy was, but the producers just kept a weird mystery about him till the end. It felt so silly. Oh and the cliche, "every-white-person-is-a-bigot" thing. If the same thing goes for a black person, the movie would sure as hell receive a lot of criticism. Honestly, the movie just painted white people as racist assholes who don't mean well for black people, but that is hugely inaccurate, and I am not downplaying the existence of racism, just saying the movie was an attempt to paint what isn't.

    STREAM OR SKIP?

I'd vehemently say skip. I know I might be going a bit too hard on movies, but the logic errors in this one was way to much. It felt like an unintentional comedy as Ludacris made subtle jokes occasionally. One time you're getting this horror, mystery vibe with the colors and sounds, next it's a complete damp-squib. So, if you are expecting some action packed, face paced thriller....NO. Lower your expectations if you have to watch this one, because it is just average. Felt like one of those movies where you make a movie because you can.

Well, there you haven't. Another underwhelming Netflix Movie. Nothing special, just a bunch of guys doing copy-paste and whatnot, and boom, a movie. Thank you for reading. Cheers

It is an action movie that shows you what a mother is willing to do for her family, I really liked that they involved the issue of racism and that on top of that they subtly talked about drug trafficking. This movie is one of those that doesn't make your heart race, I'm missing some plus that would make my head explode; however, it keeps you entertained from start to finish.

The plot of End of the Road is very predictable, I'm not sure if it has to do with the fact that there are already many films with a similar story, this one in particular will make you draw conclusions that will be correct in the end, since as I said it is very predictable; although the ending does leave you a little surprised and it's like, didn't you see it coming?

The characters are acceptable, my favorite was Brenda who is played by Queen Latifah and although it was not her best film, she did a performance that did not disappoint, we also have Ludacris whom we know for being one of the actors in Fast Furious, this time he gives life to Reggie who is Brenda's brother and he is willing to do whatever it takes to help his sister, but he makes some mistakes that will put the lives of his nephews in danger and finally we have Brenda's 2 children, Mychala Faith Lee who plays Kelly Freeman and Shawn Dixon who plays Cam; These 2 characters were the ones I liked the least, since I couldn't connect with either of them throughout the movie.

In Conclusion End Of The Road is a very predictable Action movie that will make you have a good time, it is worth seeing and will leave you with a good taste in your mouth at the end; besides that it is a plus that Queen Latifah is the protagonist. My Final Score is give.

  5. MOVIE REVIEW: END OF THE ROAD || Where exactly is the road? [ENG-ESP]@olujay1382d

    jpg_20220915_142302_0000.jpg

I have lately been looking out to hear about movies from people. I have just basically been asking my peeps for movie recommendations, as I do not understand the streaming service's mode of operation any more, Netflix. It seems just about anything can get to the top.

The End of the Road stars two popular celebrities, Queen Latifah and Ludacris. They are well known for their music, as well as being seen in movies that have made the big shots too. However, this would be the first time they worked on the same film together.

It is an action thriller that centers upon a seemingly dysfunctional family and presents twists in its plot, as you can deduce from its title.

    k75bsZMwYNu2L3iBMXq5y7xeiy1isFJsZxnMZSXuXEsxe4ee1cUkGyPif8ef4kj4QubNTwLseV2NZbTNZy6P1qxReUd94FRyJmM99siQsM52fx8YNAGPHDwg2P1ZKhzNwpTiVgCeFR8rLuRef3rJMZgnXrchSic6a.png

    𝔸𝔹𝕆𝕌𝕋 𝕋ℍ𝔼 𝕄𝕆𝕍𝕀𝔼

When Brenda's husband dies, she decides to move her family, Reggie (Ludacris), her younger brother, Cam, her son, and Kelly, her daughter, to Texas. They are a somewhat dysfunctional family as a result of her husband's death, and their trip is not as fun as should be expected.

    Screenshot (219).png Source

On their way, they get into trouble when Reggie finds and takes money that belongs to a crime boss, Mr. Cross. Brenda tries to return the money in compliance with Mr. Cross's demand for his money, but complications arise.

Without help and being alone in the Mexican desert, they fight for their lives as they have now become targets of the crime boss.

    k75bsZMwYNu2L3iBMXq5y7xeiy1isFJsZxnMZSXuXEsxe4ee1cUkGyPif8ef4kj4QubNTwLseV2NZbTNZy6P1qxReUd94FRyJmM99siQsM52fx8YNAGPHDwg2P1ZKhzNwpTiVgCeFR8rLuRef3rJMZgnXrchSic6a.png

    𝕄𝕐 𝕋ℍ𝕆𝕌𝔾ℍ𝕋𝕊 & 𝕆ℙ𝕀ℕ𝕀𝕆ℕ

When a family loses their breadwinner, it becomes a real struggle to stand on their feet and function as a family again. This typically results in a dysfunctional setting within the family. The kids may begin to withdraw. The new head may begin to struggle and deal with emotional and physical stress to keep the family together.

This film depicts such a family and their struggle to find balance again. However, faced with undesired happenstance, they tried as a family. The film fuses action, comedy, and thriller elements to deliver this story.

One would think that with two big shots in one film, this should be a hit. And you wouldn't be wrong to think that, as that's how it should be; the bigger the names, the higher the chances of it being a great film. I basically thought so, as the trailer presented something "click-baitish" to me.

The film starts off fine, but as it progressed, I began to wonder if I was missing something and wasn't following along, or if there were elements in the film that truly raised eyebrows.

    sᴛᴏʀʏʟɪɴᴇ

Scripting! Scripting Scripting! I kept shouting in my head. I do not understand to what extent some filmmakers will continue to be complacent in delivering effective writing in films.

This is right-off-the-bat a dead give away that there was something a little off about this, which I would normally not do. But this time, there is no sugar-coating anything. A review is meant to tell the truth, however subjective it may be.

The film has the right beginning, I guess; one that endeared itself to the audience with the state of the family's instilling sympathy, the comedic dialogues between the family, and the cool music.

However, things were going just fine till Neflix began to do their thing again, shoving what you were already aware of down your throat.

I mean, we already know about racism. And there have been films that did an excellent job of presenting and addressing this. But the portrayal in this film was just superfluous, painting white people as being all bad. It didn't make any sense.

Another topic of concern is the "unveiling of the big bad." There obviously was one, as the name was overstated (to me). And then, when it was revealed, I was not surprised. I felt disappointed, in fact.

The action that they managed to deliver was basically mundane. We will not even get into that. You already get the gist that the scripting was just not right. So let's just move on.

    ᴄɪɴᴇᴍᴀᴛᴏɢʀᴀᴘʜʏ

On the other hand, the visual storytelling followed quite a different path to that which the storyline did for the film, which is probably why one may consider giving the film the benefit of the doubt.

Would I say the film seemed like it was going to follow a more "country-like" kind of theme, or should I say setting? Looking at the overall sense of the film, one could say that it actually did have a country-like setting, and this could only be attributed to the film because of its cinematography.

I would definitely commend this aspect, as the film was certainly appealing to see, regardless of the flawed script. And this would be thanks to the excellent framing, color, lighting, and the like.

    ᴀᴄᴛɪɴɢ

I could not but wonder if these "big-shots" probably do not get the whole idea, or concept, of the films they work on. I mean, they should know what the story is, really, for them to effectively play their parts. So, it makes me wonder why they do choose to take them, knowing that it's uhhgh humdrum? Oh well...

I had never seen Queen Latifah and Ludacris in the same screenplay (not that I am a big fan), but to see how well they delivered their parts and the connection they had in the film was mostly what made the film a little worthwhile. Ludacris, to me, held the film together with his comedic parts.

I would commend the family dialogue in the film. It is something one could term "natural." Such a dialogue is something normally seen between dysfunctional families in reality.

Every other person than the family in the movie all had performances that just did not "cut it" for me. I mean, the film could have done much better without them, I think.

    𝕄𝕐 𝔽𝕀ℕ𝔸𝕃 𝕋ℍ𝕆𝕌𝔾ℍ𝕋𝕊...

There are films that I would only choose to see to pass time, the escapist ones, but this one is one that does not even fall under that category.

It's disappointing to see a lot of films released every day and yet the majority of them cannot be appreciated simply because "anything goes" in the industry. One can only hope that the good ones will surface, as they deserve.

This film, in general, could have been a great movie had its scripts been much better. Other aspects of the film were really great.

I will therefore give it a rating of 𝟜/𝟙𝟘.

The End of the Road está protagonizada por dos populares celebridades, Queen Latifah y Ludacris.

No tenía ningún sentido.
