Fanny and Alexander is a 1982 Swedish film directed by Ingmar Bergman.

The film is an epic drama about a bourgeois family in Uppsala, Sweden, in the early 20th century.

The story centers on siblings Fanny and Alexander Ekdal, who live in a loving and prosperous family.

However, after the death of their father, their mother marries an extremely stern and imperious bishop named Edvard Vergerus.

The children are raised to live under the roof of their tyrannical new stepfather, where they face a life of restrictions and abuse.

Fanny and Alexander is a cinematic masterpiece that combines elements of magical realism with Bergman's masterful direction.

Known for its rich narrative, spectacular cinematography and complex characterization, visually elaborate style and introspective approach to the characters.

The film is considered one of the most outstanding films in Ingmar Bergman's extensive filmography.

It won four Academy Awards, including Best Foreign Language Film.
