These days I was looking for something to watch and I saw that the movie Free Spirit was available on Netflix, so I decided to watch it. The movie came out in this year 2023 and is based on true events, it tells the story of Jessica Watson. The movie has a running time of 109 minutes, that is approximately one hour and forty minutes. This production was directed by Sarah Spillane, and the script was written by the same director, together with Cathy Randall and Rebecca Banner, all through the story told by the same protagonist (Watson) in her book.
The plot of Free Spirit tells us how a girl named Jessica Watson (played by Teagan Croft) since she was a child liked sailing as her whole family, consisting of two sisters, a brother, her father and her father. From a very young age the girl set out to sail around the world by herself, something that was criticized at the time by Australian society and the media, including the government, as I forgot to mention that the girl is from Australia. The young girl wanted to hold the record of being the youngest girl to do so, with only 16 years old, she was fully supported by her parents and siblings, in addition to Ben Bryant, a sailor who also managed to sail around the world at a very young age.

Sabemos que en muchos casos los padres y la familia nos suelen sobre proteger, pero también es cierto que también nos apoyan en las decisiones que tomamos, aunque al principio no es fácil y menos cuando se puede perder a una persona importante. Al comienzo pensé, como que los padres de Jessica la dejen hacer eso, en mar puede ser tan peligroso cuando hay tormenta e incluso se pueden encontrar con embarcaciones muchos más grandes. Todo esto fue mencionado en la película de alguna forma o al menos se dio a entender. Lo que más puedo destacar de la película es el hecho de la tenacidad de la chica, que a pesar de sus 16 años, sabía lo que quería realmente y a pesar de las dificultades, nunca se rindió. Esta película es de drama, así de aventura, pero también de drama, así que el camino de la chica no será sencillo, pasaran muchas cosas que nos van a poner a la expectativa de cómo terminará la historia. ¿Será que Jessica Watson logra su propósito? Pues es importante que veas la película para que lo descubras.

En cuanto al reparto es importante mencionar que creo que no hay visto a ninguno de los actores en otras películas, bueno el único es Cliff Curtis, quien interpreta al entrenador (Ben Bryant) de la Joven Jessica Watson. Este actor lo vi en las películas 10,000 B.C y Seis días y siete noches, y les puedo decir que en Espíritu libre me gustó mucho su actuación, ya que Ben es una persona gruñón, que siempre le gusta estar solo y esto se debe a cosas que pasó tras sus aventuras en el mar y también al parecer por la pérdida de alguien a la cual entrenó. Pero Jessica con su ímpetu su fue ganando su confianza y cierto punto hacerlo cambiar. Poco a poco Ben se fue integrando a la familia Watson. La actuación de este actor fue de las mejores de la película, ya que sentí que todas las características del personaje fueron bien trasmitidas.

Teagan Croft fue quien interpretó a la joven Jessica Watson y también lo hizo bastante bien, en lo personal a mí me gustó. Anna Paquin fue quien le dio vida al personaje Julie Watson, madre de Jessica, quien siempre apoyó a su hijo, me fuese gastado conocer un poco más sobre ella en la película, pero sabemos que la historia principal estaba centrada en su hija. Roger Watson, el padre de Jess fue interpretado por Josh Lawson, me gustó su actuación, conecte con su personaje, pero también me fuese gustado conocer más de él, que realizaba en su vida cotidiana. Stacy Clausen (Tom Watson) le dio vida al hermano de jessica, mientras que Bridget Webb hizo el papel de su hermana mayor Emily y finalmente Hannah, la hermana menor de la joven Jessica fue interpretado por Vivien Turner, quien a pesar de su edad lo hizo bien, me gustó mucho lo que vi en pantalla, quedé realmente sorprendido. El cast estuvo muy bien, se le vio bastante química en pantalla, al menos fue mi sensación.

This movie is a drama movie, so adventure, but also drama, so the path of the girl will not be easy, many things will happen that will put us in expectation of how the story will end. Will Jessica Watson achieves her purpose? Well, it is important that you watch the movie to find out.
As for the cast it is important to mention that I don't think I have seen any of the actors in other movies, well the only one is Cliff Curtis, who plays the trainer (Ben Bryant) of the young Jessica Watson. I saw this actor in the movies 10,000 B.C and Six Days and Seven Nights, and I can tell you that in Free Spirit I really liked his performance, as Ben is a grumpy person, who always likes to be alone and this is due to things that happened after his adventures at sea and also apparently because of the loss of someone he trained. But Jessica with her impetus was gaining his trust and to a certain point making him change. Little by little Ben became part of the Watson family. The performance of this actor was one of the best in the film, as I felt that all the characteristics of the character were well conveyed.
Teagan Croft was the one who played the young Jessica Watson and she also did quite well, personally I liked her. Anna Paquin was who gave life to the character Julie Watson, Jessica's mother, who always supported her son, I would have liked to know a little more about her in the movie, but we know that the main story was focused on her daughter. Tanto la dirección y el guion de la película me pacieron buenos, aunque también me fuese gustado ver un poco más de la historia de los demás personaje, no sabíamos que hacían los demás, ejemplo porque Ben tenía esa personalidad, que le ocurrió para ser así, que hacían sus padres, que trabajaban, que mostraran un poco la vida de sus hermanos. Sabemos que la historia estaba centrada en Jessica, pero fuese gustado que al menos mostraran un poco más de lo demás. A pesar de ello no me disgustó la trama ni mucho menos. La fotografía es una de las mejores cosas de la película, estuvo a cargo de Danny Ruhlmann, este hizo un maravillo trabajo y no podía ser distinto, ya que Australia cuenta con sitios hermosos, la playa hermosa y sin lugar a dudas lo mejor fue la aventura en el recorrido del mundo de Jessica y las cosas que pudimos ver en el camino, navegando, dándole la vuelta al mundo.

Algo que también me encantó y debo destacar son los efectos visuales, como mostraban a las ballenas, los defines, las tormentas y lo impresionantes que se veían las olas del mar. La banda sonora también me gustó, las músicas siempre eran acorde a los que estábamos bien en ese momento, aunque también es importante mencionar que tanto la fotografía, como los efectos visuales para recrear algunas escenas fueron superiores, lo más destacado del filme Espíritu libre. Esta es mi opinión de esta producción, todo de acuerdo a mi experiencia personal y las sensaciones que me dejó el filme.

Espíritu Libre (2023) es una película que me gustó mucho su historia, sobre todo la tenacidad de Jessica Watson, todo lo que tuve que pasar para intentar realizar su sueño de poder navegar sola alrededor del mundo, sin ningún tipo de ayuda ni ninguna parada en el camino, algo que me sorprendió mucho y sin lugar dudas es de inspiración, no solo para los adolescentes, sino para cualquier persona, que siempre deben perseguir sus sueños, sin importar los obstáculos que se nos presenten en el camino. El filme nos muestra lo importante que es cuando las personas que queremos creen en nosotros, pero también el creer en uno mismo es importante. Nunca debemos rendirnos. La película nos muestra momentos felices, pero también momentos de incertidumbres donde creemos que las cosas van a terminar mal. Un final de suspenso, la verdad es que me atrapó mucho porque no sabía cómo terminaría la aventura de Jessica Watson y que si lograría su objetivo. La película no es perfecta, pero sí creo que podemos disfrutar de esta gran historia y pasarla bien que es lo importante. La puntuación que le daría es un 7.5 de 10.

Both the direction and the script of the movie were good, although I would have liked to see a little more of the story of the other characters, we didn't know what the others did, for example why Ben had that personality, what happened to him to be like that, what his parents did, what they worked, they showed a little of his siblings' lives. We know that the story was centered on Jessica, but I would have liked that at least they showed a little more of the others. In spite of that I didn't dislike the plot by any means. The photography is one of the best things of the movie, it was in charge of Danny Ruhlmann, he did a wonderful job and it could not be different, since Australia has beautiful places, the beautiful beach and undoubtedly the best thing was the adventure in Jessica's world tour and the things we could see on the way, sailing, going around the world.
Something that I also loved and I must highlight are the visual effects, how they showed the whales, the dolphins, the storms and how impressive the waves of the sea looked. I also liked the soundtrack, the music was always according to what we were well at the time, although it is also important to mention that both the photography and the visual effects to recreate some scenes were superior, the highlight of the film Free Spirit. This is my opinion of this production, all according to my personal experience and the sensations that the film left me.

Free Spirit (2023) is a film that I really liked its story, especially the tenacity of Jessica Watson, everything I had to go through to try to realize her dream of being able to sail alone around the world, without any help or any stop along the way, something that surprised me a lot and undoubtedly is inspiring, not only for teenagers, but for anyone, who should always pursue their dreams, no matter what obstacles are presented to us on the way. The film shows us how important it is when the people we love believe in us, but also believing in ourselves is important. We should never give up. The film shows us happy moments, but also moments of uncertainty where we believe that things are going to end badly. A suspenseful ending, the truth is that it caught me a lot because I did not know how Jessica Watson's adventure would end and if she would achieve her goal. The movie is not perfect, but I think we can enjoy this great story and have a good time which is the important thing. The score I would give it is a 7.5 out of 10.
