Hi everyone, anime fans, I hope you are great, today I want to talk to you about an anime called Gleipnir, with a crazy premise, and a story that had a lot of potential.. well, imagine this, we meet a normal guy, Shuichi, half lonely, without many friends, living just for living.. and suddenly you realize that... you can turn into a giant bear suit.. I know, it sounds re crazy, right? But trust me, it gets a lot wilder, so, Shuichi is out there dealing with this insane ability, trying to figure out what the heck is going on, and bam, he crosses paths with a girl, Claire.. she has her own problems and a pretty shady agenda... it turns out that these transformations are somehow connected to some alien coins that are lying around, and Claire is on a mission to find them, for reasons... let's just say they're not very good, and Shuichi, being the guy in the bear suit by accident, gets dragged right into this whole complicated world.
From the very first episode, Gleipnir bombards you with questions like there's no tomorrow, what are those coins, why does Shuichi transform, what's wrong with Claire? Just like that it grabs you instantly, you're constantly trying to piece the puzzle together, the best part is, just when you think you start to understand something.. another mystery comes out.. it's like they're peeling layers off an onion all the time, but instead of making you cry, it leaves you even more intrigued, and wanting to get to the end of it all.

Hola a todos, fanáticos del anime, espero que estén genial, hoy les quiero hablar de un anime que se llama Gleipnir, con una premisa alocada, y una historia que tenía mucho potencial.. bueno, imagínense esto, conocemos a un tipo normal, Shuichi, medio solitario, sin muchos amigos, viviendo solo por vivir.. y de repente te das cuenta de que... puedes convertirte en un traje de oso gigante.. ya sé, suena re loco, ¿verdad? Pero créanme, la cosa se pone mucho más salvaje, entonces, Shuichi está ahí lidiando con esta habilidad demencial, tratando de entender qué rayos está pasando, y pum, se cruza con una chica, Claire.. ella tiene sus propios problemas y una agenda bien turbia.. resulta que estas transformaciones están conectadas de alguna forma con unas monedas alienígenas que andan por ahí regadas, y Claire anda en una misión para encontrarlas, por razones... digamos que no son muy buenas, y Shuichi, siendo el tipo del traje de oso por accidente, es arrastrado directo a todo este mundo complicado.
Desde el primer episodio, Gleipnir te bombardea con preguntas como si no hubiera un mañana ¿Qué son esas monedas? ¿Por qué Shuichi se transforma? ¿Qué le pasa a Claire? Así como que te atrapa al instante, estás constantemente tratando de armar el rompecabezas, lo mejor es que, justo cuando crees que empiezas a entender algo.. sale otro misterio.. es como si le estuvieran quitando capas a una cebolla todo el tiempo, pero en vez de hacerte llorar, te deja aún más intrigado, y con ganas de llegar al final de todo.

And well, this series can leave you a bit confused, memories are a problem, identities make you doubt, and you never know who to trust... it's like living in a constant “What the fuck is going on?”, but, in a good way, I kept making my own theories, pausing to go back and see if I had missed a clue. You know that feeling when you get stuck to a mystery book that you can't put down? Same thing, but in anime and with a guy who transforms into a bear, loquisimo... The characters... well, they're completely crazy, but in a good way (I think)... Claire, is obsessed with revenge, but on a sick level... she is not the typical cheerful anime girl, not at all, she has an intensity that catches you and at the same time makes you feel sorry for her.. and Elena, Claire's sister, with that mind control power that is scary... she shows you another level of complexity... you can tell that these characters have been through a lot, and their pasts always get into the present, making you think what the hell made them what they are... The relationship between Shuichi and Claire is also super weird.
Remember I told you he turns into a suit? Well Claire... she can get inside the suit and take control.. again, crazy thing.. it's like they're stuck in this weird, symbiosis-like relationship, where Shuichi is the muscle, literally, and Claire is almost always the brains and the one in charge, ds kind of murky, but somehow, it works.... makes their partnership always on edge, and when it gets ugly, it gets really ugly... the action scenes in Gleipnir are pretty intense, watching Shuichi transform and go crazy in his bear suit is visually insane, but it's not just mindless fighting, they use their powers and abilities intelligently in combat. It's not just fist and kick; it's strategic and often brutal... there are some truly amazing and jaw-dropping moments in the fights, you're always left wondering how they're going to get out of the next problem.

Y bueno, esta serie puede dejarte un poco confundido, los recuerdos son un problema, las identidades te- hacen dudar, y nunca sabes bien en quién confiar.. es como vivir en un"¿¡Qué carajos está pasando!?" constante, pero, en el buen sentido, yo no paraba de hacerme mis propias teorías, dándole pausa para retroceder y ver si se me había escapado alguna pista. ¿Conocen esa sensación cuando te pegas a un libro de misterio que no puedes soltar? Así mismo, pero en anime y con un tipo que se transforma en oso, loquisimo.. Los personajes.. bueno, están completamente locos, pero en el buen sentido (creo).. Claire, está obsesionada con la venganza, pero a un nivel enfermo.. no es la típica chica anime alegre, para nada, tiene una intensidad que te atrapa y a la vez te da pena.. y Elena, la hermana de Claire, con ese poder de control mental que da miedito... te muestra otro nivel de complejidad.. se nota que estos personajes han pasado por muchas cosas, y sus pasados siempre se meten en el presente, haciéndote pensar qué demonios los convirtió en lo que son.. La relación entre Shuichi y Claire también es súper rara.
¿Se acuerdan que les dije que se convierte en un traje? Pues Claire... ella se puede meter dentro del traje y tomar el control.. de nuevo, loquisimo.. es como si estuvieran atrapados en esta relación rara, como de simbiosis, donde Shuichi es el músculo, literal, y Claire es casi siempre el cerebro y la que manda, es medio turbio, pero de alguna forma, funciona.. hace que su colaboración siempre esté al límite, y cuando la cosa se pone fea, se pone muy fea.. las escenas de acción en Gleipnir son bastante intensas, ver a Shuichi transformarse y volverse loco en su traje de oso es una locura visual, pero no es solo pelea sin sentido, usan sus poderes y habilidades de forma inteligente en combate. No es solo puño y patada; es estratégico y muchas veces brutal.. hay momentos de verdad sorprendentes y que te dejan con la boca abierta en las peleas, siempre te quedas pensando cómo van a salir del próximo problema.

But I don't want you to think that Gleipnir is perfect, because obviously it has its flaws... let's start with the animation, it's good, it does its job, it's watchable, yes... but, sometimes it feels poor, in some shots, sometimes it looks great, other times it looks poor... it's not going to win awards for animation, it does its job, and the action scenes are well done, but it's not a visual spectacle... now, where they did really shine was in the design of the monsters, ugh, it's so scary, they're weird and at the same time, growers... they're super creative, there they really hit the nail on the head, making the monsters feel unique, some are really disturbing, which goes perfectly with the dark tone of the series. But this is where Gleipnir kind of slips a little: the rhythm, and there are episodes that feel like the story just.. doesn't move forward.
You know those chapters where almost nothing happens, and you're just waiting for something, anything, to make the plot move? Gleipnir has those moments, several times I found myself skipping ahead a few minutes, to be honest, in some parts, it did get a little boring... I also checked my phone a couple of times, and that's never a good sign. It's like the story gets so wrapped up in creating mystery that sometimes it forgets to, you know, really move forward... and the ending... oh, the ending, is one of those bittersweet ones, they solve some mysteries from the beginning, but they leave SO MANY things unexplained.. they throw so many new questions at you in the last few episodes, and then... it's over... they probably intended a sequel, considering they didn't completely adapt the source material, but then... total silence, it's been like five years since it came out, and still no second season.

Pero mo quiero que piensen que Gleipnir es perfecto, porque obvio que tiene sus fallitas.. empecemos por la animación, es buena, cumple, se deja ver, sí.. pero, a veces se siente pobre, en algunas tomas, a veces se ve genial, otras se ve pobre.. no va a ganar premios por animación, hace su trabajo, y las escenas de acción están bien hechas, pero no es un espectáculo visual.. ahora, donde sí se lucieron con ganas fue en el diseño de los monstruos, uf, da mucha cosa, son raros y a la vez, cultivadores.. son súper creativos, ahí sí le dieron en el clavo, haciendo que los monstruos se sintieran únicos, algunos son de verdad perturbadores, lo que va perfecto con el tono medio oscuro de la serie. Pero aquí es donde Gleipnir como que patina un poco: el ritmo, y es que hay episodios que se sienten como que la historia simplemente... no avanza.
¿Saben esos capítulos donde no pasa casi nada, y tú solo estás esperando que algo, lo que sea, haga que la trama se mueva? Gleipnir tiene de esos momentos, varias veces me vi adelantando unos minutos, siendo sincero, en algunas partes, sí se puso un poco aburrido.. también me puse a ver el celular un par de veces, y eso nunca es buena señal. Es como que la historia se enreda tanto en crear misterio que a veces se olvida de, ya saben, avanzar de verdad.. y el final... ay, el final, es de esos agridulces, resuelven algunos misterios del principio, pero dejan MUCHÍSIMAS cosas sin explicar.. te tiran tantas preguntas nuevas en los últimos capítulos, y luego.. se acabó.. seguramente tenían la intención de una continuación, considerando que no adaptaron por completo el material de origen, pero luego... silencio total, han pasado como cinco años desde que salió, y todavía nada de segunda temporada.

The ending leaves you wanting more, but it leaves you intrigued, because you feel like the conclusion is right there, but you just can't reach it... let's be honest, sometimes the story gets kind of... tangled, that's true... with so much manipulation of memories and hidden secrets, there were times when I was scratching my head, trying to understand what the heck was going on and who was telling the truth... it's not that you can't understand anything, but you do have to pay attention, and even then, you might get a little lost at times. Oh, and there's that arc, the one with the group of "useless people"... there the quality drops a lot in that part of the story, it feels like they drag it out too much, and the new characters they introduce are not interesting at all. It's like the energy that the series had grabbed deflates a bit at that part... for those who are curious, the anime is not the same as the manga, especially the ending, if you are left wanting more, you already know where to go to continue the story...
So, who do I recommend Gleipnir to? Definitely to anyone who likes a good mystery with dark and complicated characters, if you like psychological thrillers and don't mind a bit of gore, you'll surely like it... but if you prefer more direct and easy to follow stories, with all the answers very clear, Gleipnir may frustrate you, it is not at all a relaxing series to watch without thinking... you have to be ready to turn on your brain and maybe get a little lost along the way... despite its flaws, I liked Gleipnir, the original idea, the mysteries that hook you and the disturbed characters kept me glued, even in the slowest moments. The ending left me wanting more, although it's unlikely we'll ever get a second season... what grade do I give it? I'd give it a 7/10, it's not a masterpiece, but it's really worth watching if you're looking for something different and darker than the average anime... tell me, have you seen it? El final te deja con ganas de más, pero te deja intrigado, porque sientes que la conclusión está ahí cerquita, pero no la alcanzas.. seamos sinceros, a veces la historia se pone medio... enredada, eso es verdad.. con tanta manipulación de recuerdos y secretos escondidos, hubo momentos en los que yo estaba rascándome la cabeza, tratando de entender qué rayos estaba pasando y quién estaba diciendo la verdad.. no es que no se entienda nada, pero sí tienes que ponerle atención, y aun así, capaz que te pierdes un poco por ratos. Ah, y está ese arco, el del grupo de "gente inútil".. ahí baja la calidad un montón en esa parte de la historia, se siente como que lo alargan demasiado, y los personajes nuevos que meten no son nada interesantes. Es como que la energía que la serie había agarrado se desinfla un poco en esa parte.. para los que tengan curiosidad, el anime no es igualito al manga, sobre todo el final, si te quedas con ganas de más, ya sabes a dónde ir para continuar la historia..
Entonces, ¿a quién le recomiendo Gleipnir? De fijo a cualquiera que le guste un buen misterio con personajes oscuros y complicados, si les gustan los thrillers psicológicos y no les molesta un poco de gore, seguro les va a gustar.. pero si prefieren historias más directas y fáciles de seguir, con todas las respuestas bien claritas, Gleipnir puede que los frustre, para nada es una serie relajante para ver sin pensar.. tienen que estar listos para prender el cerebro y tal vez se pierdan un poquito en el camino..a pesar de sus fallas, a mí me gustó Gleipnir, la idea original, los misterios que te enganchan y los personajes perturbados me mantuvieron pegado, hasta en los momentos más lentos. El final me dejó con ganas de más, aunque es poco probable que tengamos segunda temporada alguna vez.. qué nota le doy? Le pondría un 7/10, mo es una obra maestra, pero de verdad vale la pena verla si buscan algo diferente y más oscuro que el anime promedio.. cuéntenme, lo han visto?
