Cada cierto tiempo es bueno romper con la temática de ver películas que son del agrado de una gran cantidad de público o que para decir de manera simple, son famosas; creo que hay mucho material para observar, historias que por ciertos elementos atraen la atención; personalmente tengo una lista de ese tipo de películas y en este tiempo en dónde cada vez está más cerca de finalizar la temporada de los estrenos veraniegos del cine, es hora que por fin vea esos films que posiblemente muchos decidan no ver, una de esas películas es a la que hago reseña en esta publicación en dónde une los géneros del thriller y la acción, para relatar una historia de persecución y venganza.
Every now and then it is good to break with the theme of watching movies that are liked by a large number of people or, to put it simply, are famous; I think there is a lot of material to watch, stories that attract attention because of certain elements; I personally have a list of such films and at this time where it is getting closer to the end of the season of summer releases of cinema, it is time to finally see those films that many may decide not to see, one of those films is the one I review in this publication where it unites the genres of thriller and action, to tell a story of persecution and revenge.
Desde el momento que pude leer una breve sinopsis y un tiempo después ver el trailer, el film "God Is a Bullet", se convirtió en una de las producciones que quería ver, mis expectativas se basaban en descubrir que tan desenfrenado o extraño era la necesidad de sus protagonistas en querer hacer justicia por sus propias manos; esto es una breve y simple sinopsis de este film el cual de manera extensa la describo como una historia en dónde un detective, "Bob Hightower", deberá dejar su trabajo de escritorio en la estación de policía y adentrarse en la persecución de una secta satánica que ha raptado a su hija adolescente; él junto a "Case Hardin", una joven mujer que escapó de dicha secta, se unirían para una misión de rescate que pondrá a prueba la psiquis y creencias de cada uno al momento en el que ambos deban estar al nivel del hombre que les ha hecho mucho daño.
From the moment I was able to read a brief synopsis and some time later see the trailer, the film "God Is a Bullet ", became one of the productions I wanted to see, my expectations were based on discovering how unbridled or strange was the need of its protagonists to want to take justice into their own hands; This is a brief and simple synopsis of this film, which in a long way I describe it as a story where a detective, "Bob Hightower", must leave his desk job at the police station and go into the pursuit of a satanic sect that has kidnapped his teenage daughter; He and Case Hardin, a young woman who escaped from the cult, join forces for a rescue mission that will test each other's psyches and beliefs as they both have to keep up with the man who has done them so much harm.
Este film es dirigido y escrito por Nick Cassavetes quien ha dirigido varios films de diferentes géneros como por ejemplo "John Q" y "The Notebook"; en esta oportunidad, al ser film que demuestra aspectos de un mundo muy alejado a lo cotidiano o normal, en mi opinión hace un buen trabajo explorando brevemente lugares oscuros, peligrosos, sitios en donde nadie debería estar e imagino que es debido a la necesidad de crear límites visibles entre lo bueno y lo malo, de como un factor influye sobre el otro lo cual es un tema importante en esta historia. Un aspecto importante y que me agrado de este film es lo muy parecido a ciertos films de los 80' y 90', hay muchas escenas en dónde me hizo recordar a otras producciones realizadas entre esas épocas.
El guion, el cual está basado en una novela del mismo nombre escrita en 1999 por Boston Teran, es como dije en el párrafo anterior, una lucha entre el bien y el mal; en la primera parte o el primer acto del film, hay una clara diferencia sobre quien es el bueno y quienes son los malos; esa base de la historia hace que estos personajes dependiendo de sus aspectos, actos, creencias religiosas sean definidos como tal, aunque más importancia la obtengan los dos protagonistas que con el viaje que deben realizar para hacer justicia deben adentrarse a un mundo lleno de perdición; en eso funciona la historia, pero la ejecución no es la mejor y es debido a lo lento del film, en especial en su segundo acto.
This film is directed and written by Nick Cassavetes who has directed several films of different genres such as "John Q" and "The Notebook"; in this opportunity, being a film that shows aspects of a world far away from the everyday or normal, in my opinion does a good job briefly exploring dark, dangerous places, places where no one should be and I imagine it is due to the need to create visible boundaries between good and bad, how one factor influences the other which is an important theme in this story. An important aspect that I liked about this film is how similar it is to certain films of the 80's and 90's, there are many scenes where it reminded me of other productions made between those times.
The script, which is based on a novel of the same name written in 1999 by Boston Teran, is as I said in the previous paragraph, a struggle between good and evil; in the first part or the first act of the film, there is a clear difference about who is the good guy and who are the bad guys; that basis of the story makes that these characters depending on their aspects, acts, religious beliefs are defined as such, although more importance is obtained by the two protagonists that with the journey they must make to do justice must enter a world full of doom; in that the story works, but the execution is not the best and it is due to the slowness of the film, especially in its second act.
Las actuaciones no son malas, me gustó el trabajo de Nikolaj Coster-Waldau como "Bob", su personaje es el hombre que está dentro de una zona de confort, divorciado, un trabajo tranquilo a pesar de ser policía, su hija vive en un buen lugar junto a su madre y creo que lo más importante para él es que todo es permitido por la religión del cual él cree; todo es perfecto, no hay nada porque preocuparse, pero cuando la vida le arrebata todo, es donde la influencia de una extraña e inesperada realidad, la aparición de un mundo detestable y corrosivo, lo harán transitar por un camino alejado a sus creencias, en eso me pareció bien como este personaje experimenta todo eso; a pesar de todo lo descrito por ese personaje, creo que la verdadera protagonista es "Case", interpretada por Maika Monroe, sin ninguna duda lo mejor del film; el personaje de Case experimenta todo lo que debe vivir Bob, aunque lo de ella es más traumático porque lidió con ese mundo por mucho tiempo, aunque demuestra gran fuerza al poner fin con ese grupo de malas personas, pero creo que demuestra mucha más fuerza cuando decide ayudar a un desesperado padre en la búsqueda de su hija y por eso creo que su historia está mejor desarrollada que de cualquier otro personaje y es una buena decisión porque Monroe es una excelente actriz.
The performances are not bad, I liked the work of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as "Bob", his character is the man who is in a comfort zone, divorced, a quiet job despite being a policeman, his daughter lives in a good place with her mother and I think the most important thing for him is that everything is allowed by the religion he believes in; everything is perfect, there is nothing to worry about, but when life takes everything away from him, is where the influence of a strange and unexpected reality, the appearance of a detestable and corrosive world, will make him walk a path away from his beliefs, in that I thought it was good how this character experiences all that; in spite of everything described by this character, I think the real protagonist is "Case", played by Maika Monroe, without any doubt the best of the film; Case's character experiences everything that Bob must live, although hers is more traumatic because she dealt with that world for a long time, although she shows great strength to put an end to that group of bad people, but I think she shows much more strength when she decides to help a desperate father in the search for his daughter and that's why I think her story is better developed than any other character and it's a good decision because Monroe is an excellent actress.
Tenía expectativas sobre "God Is a Bullet"; hay ciertas cosas que me gustaron, como por ejemplo la narrativa de la historia enfocada en el personaje de "Case"; su historia es cruel, triste y poco satisfactoria, pero estoy convencido de que es real y representa a muchas otras personas que pueden ser víctimas de duros traumas; justamente eso es lo bueno de este film en dónde se enfoca en las víctimas y lo que deben lidiar por sus traumáticas experiencias; ahora con respecto a lo que no me gustó, es inevitable no hacer referencia al personaje de Bob, el cual su desarrollo no fue el mejor, se enfocó mucho en la religión, lo cual es importante para la historia de este personaje, pero se pudo hacer una sola vez y no hacer algo repetitivo, el momento en enfocarse en este personaje hace que la historia se haga larga y aburrida, en lo principal en el segundo acto dónde ese personaje toma un mayor protagonismo. Esta película pudo ser mejor, con una edición mejor en el segundo acto, junto en las escenas finales del film y seguramente complace a la crítica especializada, pero lamentablemente trata de abarcar mucho y creo que eso hace que se pierda el control de la narrativa y no se disfrute por completo de esta película.
I had expectations about "God Is a Bullet"; there are certain things I liked, for example the narrative of the story focused on the character of "Case"; his story is cruel, sad and unsatisfying, but I am convinced that it is real and represents many other people who can be victims of hard traumas; that is precisely the good thing about this film where it focuses on the victims and what they have to deal with because of their traumatic experiences; now with respect to what I did not like, it is inevitable not to make reference to the character of Bob, whose development was not the best, it focused a lot on religion, which is important for the story of this character, but it could be done only once and not make something repetitive, the time to focus on this character makes the story becomes long and boring, mainly in the second act where this character takes a greater role. This film could have been better, with a better editing in the second act, along with the final scenes of the film and surely pleases the specialized critics, but unfortunately it tries to cover too much and I think that makes you lose control of the narrative and not fully enjoy this film.
