Hello everyone, fellow fans of good stories, I hope you are doing great, dear Thr Anime Realm community. I finally got to watch Golden Time and... we need to talk about this... seriously. Okay, the initial idea hooked me right away. We have this guy, Banri Tada, who gets into a super intense accident on a bridge and—bam!—total amnesia. I mean, the dude remembers NOTHING about his past life. And here's the craziest part: right after that, the guy decides it's a super good idea to enroll in university. I'm like... excuse me? I mean, who in their right mind goes to college without even knowing their own name? And who lets him in?! But hey, you know, anime logic. The point is, he starts his new university life, and that's when things really heat up, because he starts running into people who knew him from before and, obviously, new people who become part of his present.
And here lies the heart of it all, what drives the story: the BRUTAL identity crisis this guy is carrying. It's not a simple "oh, I forgot my keys," no, no. It's a constant "who the hell was I?, who did that person love?, and who am I now and who do I love?" It's literally like he has two versions of himself fighting to the death for control of his body, and honestly, I found this a thousand times more original and profound than the typical cheesy love triangle they always shove down our throats. And that's why you grow fond of him, because you realize it's not his fault he's in this mess, and the poor guy is really giving it his all. One moment he's connecting incredibly well with someone new, and then out of nowhere—wham!—a memory from his past self pops up and leaves him completely lost. It's a mess, it's confusing, and honestly, it feels super real, very genuine for someone going through something as dense as amnesia. It's not the typical cheap script excuse to create drama; you truly feel it's an authentic struggle to find out who he is.
Hola a todos, amigos fanáticos de las buenas historias, espero que estén super bien, querida comunidad de Thr Anime Realm, por fin pude ver Golden Time y... tenemos que hablar de esto.. serio, a ver, la idea de entrada ya me atrapó. Tenemos a este chico, Banri Tada, que sufre un accidente súper heavy en un puente y ¡pum!, amnesia total.. o sea, el tipo no se acuerda de NADA de su vida pasada, aquí viene lo más loco: justo después de eso, el man decide que es una súper buena idea meterse a la universidad.. yo como que... ¿perdón? O sea, ¿quién en su sano juicio se mete a estudiar sin saber ni cómo se llama? ¡¿Y quién lo deja entrar?! Pero bueno, ya saben, la lógica del anime, el punto es que arranca su nueva vida universitaria y ahí es que la cosa se prende, porque se empieza a topar con gente que lo conocía de antes y, obvio, con gente nueva que empieza a formar parte de su presente.
Y aquí está el corazón de todo, lo que mueve la historia: la crisis de identidad BRUTAL que se carga este tipo.. no es un simple "ay, se me olvidaron las llaves", no, no. Es un constante "¿quién carajos era yo?, ¿a quién quería esa persona?, ¿y ahora quién soy yo y a quién quiero?".. es que, literal, es como si tuviera dos versiones de sí mismo peleando a muerte por el control de su cuerpo, y honestamente, esto me pareció mil veces más original y profundo que el típico triangulito amoroso chafa que nos meten siempre. Y por eso le agarras cariño, porque te das cuenta de que no es su culpa estar metido en ese enredo, y el pobre de verdad que le está echando ganas, de repente está conectando increíble con alguien nuevo, y de la nada ¡zas!, le salta un recuerdo de su "yo" del pasado y lo deja totalmente perdido. Es un desmadre, es confuso y, la verdad, se siente súper real, muy genuino para alguien que está pasando por algo tan denso como la amnesia.. no es la típica excusa barata del guion para crear drama; de verdad sientes que es una lucha auténtica por saber quién es.
Okay, visually, the series is pretty cool. I wasn't expecting it, but the animation does a fantastic job of putting you in the mood. When everything is cheerful and fun, the colors are super bright and vivid, like in any slice-of-life anime. But when the drama hits... and believe me, it hits hard... the colors fade, they get darker, and you can really feel the full weight of the scene. It's a simple trick, but it works wonderfully and helps you connect with what Banri is feeling. Now, let's talk about the characters, because this is where the series truly shines, most of the time. It's super easy to empathize with Banri, our protagonist. The anime makes it crystal clear that the guy isn't a jerk just playing with two girls for the fun of it; it's that his past self had very real feelings for someone, and his present self is genuinely connecting with someone else. You see his whole mess and you even feel sorry for him. He's not a scumbag; it's his own condition that's causing all this chaos in his head. Then... ugh, then there are the two main girls: Koko and Linda.
My God, this is where the teams are formed and the war begins! When you first meet Koko, she's... she's super possessive, a bit of a stalker, especially at the beginning with another guy. I was like, "are we really supposed to like this girl?". But as the story progresses, you start to see her vulnerable side, you understand why she is the way she is. She has this incredibly positive energy, but there's so much more underneath, and honestly, she becomes a very fun character to analyze.
A ver, en lo visual, la serie está bastante chida, no me lo esperaba, pero la animación hace un trabajazo para meterte en el mood, cuando todo es buena onda y divertido, los colores son súper brillantes y vivos, como en cualquier anime de la vida cotidiana, pero cuando cae el drama... y créanme que cae con todo... los colores se apagan, se ponen más oscuros, y neta que sientes todo el peso de la escena. Es un truco bien simple, pero funciona de maravilla y te ayuda a conectar con lo que está sintiendo Banri.. ahora, hablemos de los personajes, porque aquí es donde la serie de verdad se luce, casi siempre. Con Banri, nuestro prota, es súper fácil empatizar.. el anime te deja clarísimo que el chico no es un desgraciado que anda jugando con dos chicas nomás porque sí; es que su "yo" del pasado tenía sentimientos súper reales por alguien, y su "yo" de ahora está conectando de verdad con otra persona.. ves todo su desmadre y hasta te da lástima. No es que sea un patán, es su propia condición la que le causa todo este caos en la cabeza, luego... uff, luego están las dos chicas principales: Koko y Linda.
Dios mío, aquí es donde se arman los teams y empieza la guerra! Cuando recién conoces a Koko, es como... es súper posesiva, medio acosadora, sobre todo al principio con otro tipo, yo estaba de que "¿en serio se supone que nos tiene que caer bien esta chica?". Pero conforme avanza la historia, le empiezas a ver su lado vulnerable, entiendes por qué es así.. tiene esta energía increíblemente positiva, pero hay mucho más debajo, y la verdad es que se vuelve un personaje muy divertido de analizar.
But then there's Linda... okay, here's a confession: I was hardcore TeamLinda for a long time. The girl has an incredible personality, she's super nice, and her history with the past Banri is just so... oh, so beautiful, so real. You see the flashbacks of how they were before the accident and you just want them to get back together, period. And even with the new Banri, their chemistry is brutal; they understand each other, they flow so easily, they just click. This makes the central dilemma even more intense, because you truly believe Banri could be happy with either of them, albeit in very different ways. And this is where the "Team Linda vs. Team Koko" war begins. It's fascinating because the series gives you plenty of reasons to root for either one. A point that comes up a lot is how Linda handled everything after the accident; some people feel that she, in a way, dug her own grave.
The new Banri felt that connection with her, like something familiar he couldn't explain, and he would ask her about their past, about what they felt... but she, weighed down by her guilt over the accident, could never be one hundred percent honest with him. She kept shutting him down, telling him it was for the best, even when the guy was practically begging her for answers or to connect with her! And if I'm being honest, even though I loved Linda, there came a point where I said, "that's it, you missed the boat." As Banri was building his new life and new relationships, especially with Koko, well… it just didn't make sense for him and Linda to end up together romantically anymore, no matter how much history they had. It's tough for Linda fans, I know, but the series builds that reality for you, it shows you the consequences of not acting in time. Now, I didn't like all the characters, mind you.
There are some cool side characters, but the one I just couldn't stand was Yana. He struck me as a total jerk. A first-class egoist. I never felt he genuinely cared about anyone else's problems or feelings unless it affected him directly. He complained about Koko stalking him, but then he was just as self-centered. I never felt a real connection between him and the others; it all felt super forced. To top it all off, he had almost no development, which made him a super boring and obnoxious character.
Pero luego está Linda.. okay, aquí les va una confesión: yo fui #TeamLinda a morir por un buen rato, es que la tipa tiene una personalidad increíble, es súper buena onda, y su historia con el Banri del pasado es tan... ay, tan bonita, tan real.. ves los flashbacks de cómo eran antes del accidente y solo quieres que vuelvan, punto. Y hasta con el nuevo Banri, la química que tienen es brutal, se entienden, fluyen como si nada, simplemente pegan bien juntos.. esto hace que el dilema central sea todavía más cabrón, porque de verdad te la crees que Banri podría ser feliz con cualquiera de las dos, aunque de formas súper distintas. Y aquí es donde empieza la guerra de "Team Linda vs. Team Koko". Es fascinante, porque la serie te da motivos de sobra para irle a cualquiera.. un punto que sale mucho es cómo Linda manejó todo el pedo después del accidente, hay gente que siente que ella, de alguna forma, se cavó su propia tumba.
El nuevo Banri sentía esa conexión con ella, como algo familiar que no podía explicar, y le preguntaba por su pasado, por lo que sentían.. pero ella, por la culpa que se cargaba por el accidente, nunca pudo serle cien por ciento sincera. Lo seguía bateando, diciéndole que era mejor así, ¡incluso cuando el chico casi le rogaba por respuestas o por conectar con ella! Y si les soy sincero, aunque a mí me encantaba Linda, llegó un punto en el que dije: "ya, se te fue el tren". Mientras Banri iba construyendo su nueva vida y sus nuevas relaciones, sobre todo con Koko, pues… ya no cuadraba que él y Linda terminaran juntos románticamente, por más historia que tuvieran.. es duro para los fans de Linda, lo sé, pero la serie te va construyendo esa realidad, te muestra las consecuencias de no hacer nada a tiempo, ahora, no todos los personajes me cayeron bien, ¿eh?
Hay secundarios que están chidos, pero con el que de plano no pude fue con Yana.. se me hizo un patán. Un egoísta de primera, nunca sentí que de verdad le importaran los problemas o los sentimientos de los demás, a menos que le salpicaran a él, se quejaba de que Koko lo acosaba, pero luego el tipo era igual de egocéntrico. Nunca sentí que hubiera una conexión real entre él y los demás; todo se sentía súper forzado.. para colmo, casi no tuvo desarrollo, lo que lo hacía un personaje bien pinche aburrido y mamón.
Another thing I honestly felt they majorly wasted was Banri's parents. I mean, your son gets severe amnesia after a horrible accident! You'd think we'd see some super emotional scenes, see how they are coping with it, see Banri trying to reconnect with the people who gave him life and whom he doesn't even remember. But no, they show up for two seconds, say three words, and leave. It's a shame because that would have added so much more depth to the story. The relationship between Banri and Koko, which is the core of everything, starts off super beautifully and feels well-developed. You see them building that connection amidst the chaos of Banri's amnesia and Koko's initial intensity.
BUT, and here's a complaint I totally agree with, after a while, around episode 9, things start to feel... repetitive. It falls into a cycle of: conflict, drama explodes, they reconcile crying, they declare their eternal love, and a week later, it's the same thing all over again. Although the initial development was incredible, it became a bit monotonous to me later on, like it lost its initial spark. It's like, okay, we get it, you love each other, now what? Despite the issues with some characters, the plot becoming repetitive later on, and what I feel is sometimes excessive melodrama, I still really enjoyed watching Golden Time.
The main idea is fascinating, the animation serves its purpose very well, the main characters (Banri, Koko, and Linda) are super well-done and genuinely make you care and get the debate going, and the comedic moments give you a good laugh. The series touches on very complex emotional themes in a way that feels real, even if they occasionally throw in some really weird plot twists. It's definitely worth watching, and the whole conflict of Banri's identity keeps you hooked until the end. If I had to give it a rating, considering how much I enjoyed it but also acknowledging its flaws... I think I'd give it a 7/10. It's good, seriously worth watching, it has brilliant moments and characters, but it's not perfect. And well, that's it for today's review, I hope you liked it! Take care! Bye-bye!
Otra cosa que la neta sentí que desaprovecharon un montón fue lo de los papás de Banri.. o sea, ¡a tu hijo le da amnesia severa después de un accidente horrible! Uno pensaría que veríamos escenas súper emocionales, ver cómo ellos están lidiando con eso, a Banri intentando reconectar con las personas que le dieron la vida y que ni siquiera recuerda, pero no, salen dos segundos, dicen tres palabras y se van.. es una lástima, porque eso le hubiera metido muchísima más profundidad a la historia. La relación de Banri y Koko, que es el centro de todo, empieza súper bonita y se siente bien desarrollada, los ves construyendo esa conexión en medio del caos que es la amnesia de Banri y la intensidad de Koko al principio.
PERO, y aquí viene una queja con la que estoy totalmente de acuerdo, después de un rato, por ahí del episodio 9, la cosa se empieza a sentir... repetitiva, cae en un ciclo de: conflicto, explota el drama, se reconcilian llorando, se declaran amor eterno, y a la semana otra vez lo mismo, aunque el desarrollo inicial estuvo increíble, después se me hizo un poco monótono, como que perdió la chispa del principio. Es como, ya, ya entendimos que se aman, ¿y luego qué? A pesar de los problemas con algunos personajes, que la trama se repita más adelante y que para mi gusto a veces le meten demasiado melodrama, aun así disfruté muchísimo ver Golden Time..
La idea principal es fascinante, la animación cumple muy bien su función, los personajes principales (Banri, Koko y Linda) están súper bien hechos y de verdad logran que te importen y que se arme el debate, y los momentos de comedia te sacan una buena carcajada.. la serie toca temas emocionales bien complejos de una forma que se siente real, aunque de repente se avienten cada giro en la trama bien raro. Definitivamente vale la pena, y todo el conflicto de la identidad de Banri te tiene enganchado hasta el final, si le tuviera que poner una calificación, pensando en lo mucho que la disfruté pero reconociendo sus fallas... yo creo que le daría un 7/10.. es buena, en serio que vale la pena verla, tiene momentos y personajes brillantes, pero perfecta no es.. y bueno hasta aquí la reseña de hoy, espero que les haya gustado!
