  1. Sakamoto Days (Part 2) | Nattosheru Review [ENG/SPA]@nattosenpai223d

    Nattosheru_20251127_155240_0000.png

Hello, anime fans. We're back in action with the return of another gem that aired during the last summer season. That's right, I'm talking about the second part of the first season of Sakamoto Days, an anime that I've already told you about before and which, personally, is one of the most entertaining I've seen in recent years. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Yuto Suzuki, this animated adaptation was produced by TMS Entertainment. If you haven't seen it yet, I invite you to discover this animated gem of action and comedy.

    Plot

This second part begins shortly after the events of the first part of the season. We see a group of dangerous criminals being released to take out as many professional assassins as possible, including Sakamoto Taro. They begin their hunt, guided by the list of targets they received from Saw. Meanwhile, Sakamoto and his colleagues/employees decide to search for the assassins working for Slur. However, they are not the only ones, as some members of The Order are also on a mission to take down these criminals who are wreaking havoc in their territory while they search for Slur's hideout.

    SPANISH VERSION

    Trama

Next, I'll leave you with the trailer for the second part of this anime:

The first time I told you about Sakamoto Days, I think I made it very clear how much I enjoyed it, despite it being just another action-comedy anime with a somewhat unique style. While the anime didn't offer anything new in terms of story, I found its premise compelling and interesting enough to decide to watch it earlier this year. Now, after watching the second part aired last summer, I am convinced that it is a work with a lot of potential to offer. Although it is clear that it is not one of the best action anime in history, far from it.

This second part contains an excellent repertoire of action, humor, and unforgettable scenes. I think it managed to match or even surpass the first part of this season, which introduced us all to this anime gem. Not only because it manages to expand this world full of assassins and dangerous criminals a little, but also because we meet new characters who are difficult to forget in one way or another. Of course, I mentioned before that it doesn't have the best character development in history or a complicated plot full of drama, suspense, and all that stuff.

The anime is simply a journey filled with action, cheap jokes, and moments that are both funny and shocking. Many who came to see this anime expecting something more than what I just described were probably completely disappointed. But what is certain is that Sakamoto Days has all the necessary elements for you to have a good time filled with laughter and exciting moments. It's no surprise that it's among the list of favorites in the action genre for many fans. Its premise and unique blend of humor and fighting is what makes it special in some way.

Something that caught my attention in this second part is how they introduced the new characters. Normally, anime takes its time to introduce new secondary characters who later become relevant to the story, but that's not the case with Sakamoto Days. What we see in this animated action-comedy series are new characters with characteristics, personalities, and abilities that make them special in one way or another. As expected, each character stands out in the fights, but there are a few individuals who manage to steal the show even after appearing and disappearing from the screen.

Among all the characters we see in this second part of Sakamoto Days, the ones that caught my attention the most are some of the enemy team. They are the kind of characters who, from the moment they appear, make an impression with what they do or how they behave (especially one in particular who fights Sakamoto, who I think was given more time and development than the rest of the enemies). Although, on reflection, I would say that most of the characters we see in this anime are pretty much like that. I think this is something that, in part, is good because it grabs the viewer's attention, but on the other hand, it's a bit negative because it takes away a lot of screen time from the protagonist.

But then again, it's not like Sakamoto Taro does much besides beating his enemies unconscious. This brings me to another point that I didn't really like about this second part of the anime. I'm referring to the character development of the protagonist, or rather his screen time. Although there are many battles in which he shines, as always, we end up seeing the same result with nothing new to offer us about him. There is also the issue of the secondary characters, especially Taro's enemies, who don't really multiply until the end.

    1760866332815.png

What I did like was that we finally saw the main antagonist (or the one I still think is the main antagonist) in action, which is somewhat gratifying. But otherwise, the story just follows a path that leads our protagonist and his companions into one battle after another with new enemies appearing nonstop. As I said at the beginning, I like this because they manage to expand both the world of assassins and the story with a few new characters who open up a certain arc of Sakamoto's past. But it's not like it's the most remarkable thing of all, since in the end it's the fights and battles that grab everyone's attention.

As for what I just mentioned about "Sakamoto's past", it's a bit disturbing that we almost never see anything from that past when he was a legendary assassin in action. It's not until the end that we see a small glimpse of his past, and that's because of one of the new characters they added. Honestly, as I said before, I don't expect much from this action-comedy anime other than fights and that's it. Although I already mentioned that it has a good number of interesting characters, they don't get much screen time beyond one or two episodes, at most. So don't expect too much from this anime either.

Last but not least, let's talk about the audiovisual aspect. I already told you in my previous review of Sakamoto Days what I think about the work done by TMS Entertainment with this adaptation, and I still feel the same way about this second part. I'm not like most viewers who watched this anime expecting to find a level of quality similar to other action and comedy works such as Spy x Family, for example. Despite the differences, I think this studio did a very good job of adapting the story using a style that is different from what we are used to seeing in other major studios such as CloverWorks and Madhouse.

The character design, the bright and vivid color palette, the visual and motion effects, the drawing style, and the details are most striking. I think what stands out most about this anime is the battles, as is evident. But there are also scenes where that quality is kept to a minimum. As for the sound effects, they continue to stand out, as does the animation in this second part. The soundtrack also does an excellent job. But what I liked the most was the opening, which is complete audiovisual madness. Anyway, if you haven't seen this anime yet and want to entertain yourself a little, then go watch it.

Personally, I give it a rating of 8.5/10 in terms of the action and comedy genre.

  2. Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto: Absurd, Brilliant and Surprisingly Inspiring@alienpunklord317d

Purple and White Modern Artificial Intelligence Twitter Post (4).png

There are anime you watch already knowing what to expect, and then there are those that shatter your expectations in a brutal way. Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto, or simply Sakamoto desu ga, fits perfectly into the second category.

When I started watching, I confess I didn’t expect much. I thought it would be just another overrated anime, with a single joke repeated to exhaustion. I figured by the third episode I’d already be tired of the main character. But I was wrong. Very wrong. What I found was a spectacle of absurd comedy, with unexpectedly emotional moments and even hidden messages about kindness and resilience.

    image.png source

The protagonist who seems from another planet

Sakamoto isn’t just “cool.” He is the embodiment of perfection. Intelligent, athletic, stylish, mysterious, always flawless. He manages to turn mundane situations into actual action movie scenes. A simple attempt to prank him turns into an epic moment, almost as if directed by Michael Bay.

Normally, this kind of exaggeration would become tiresome.

But here, the absurd is so well-crafted that it works. The series creates a narrative where the impossible feels natural, and the humor lies precisely in not knowing what to expect.

    image.png source

What’s most interesting is that Sakamoto isn’t cool just to show off his abilities. He lifts up those around him. Whether helping a bullied student regain confidence, or turning delinquents into better people (yes, even when they’re just blowing soap bubbles), Sakamoto’s perfection is used to inspire and support others.

He doesn’t hand out easy solutions. He encourages people to find their own answers. This stance recalls philosophical reflections from authors like Nietzsche: instead of giving a ready-made path, he provokes individual growth.

    Absurd yet intelligent humor

    Humor is another highlight.

It’s not just about exaggerated situations, but about how the anime plays with the viewer’s expectations. You think you know what’s going to happen… then bam! Sakamoto does something completely unexpected, drawing laughter. And even though some jokes might seem repetitive if watched in a row, the short episodes and self-aware tone keep the experience light and fresh. The anime itself knows it’s ridiculous and uses that as narrative fuel.

    image.png source

Another strong point is the supporting cast.

At first, everyone seems like high school clichés: the bullies, the popular girls, the nerds. But as the story progresses, each character gains new layers. One example is Atsushi, who starts as an intimidating delinquent but ends up becoming one of the most charismatic and even lovable characters in the plot. Seeing that transformation was, for me, one of the highlights of the entire series.

    image.png source

The studio DEEN did a solid job. The art is simple but effective, and it matches the anime’s tone. The moments when Sakamoto enters “absolute cool mode” are animated with dramatic exaggerations extreme angles, slow motion, sparkles everything works to amplify the absurd.

And we can’t forget to mention the Opening.

It’s addictive, full of energy, and sets the viewer up for the chaos ahead. It’s the kind you listen to three times in a row and immediately add to your playlist. By the final episode (spoiler alert!!!!), the anime surprises with an ending that manages to be both funny and emotional. There’s a sense of closure, something rare in school comedies. I finished the series with a smile on my face and that alone makes it worth recommending.

Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto is not the eighth wonder of the world, but it’s a different kind of anime, one that manages to be funny, absurd, and at the same time inspiring. For those looking for something lighthearted and fun, but with hidden messages about becoming a better version of yourself, this is a great choice.

I give it an 8/10. An anime that entertains, surprises, and leaves a mark.

And you, have you watched it? What did you think of this mix of nonsense and brilliance?

  3. Anime Review~Sakamoto Days@seunruth341d

What Happens When the Deadliest Hitman Becomes a Dad Bod Shopkeeper?

What if I told you that one of the deadliest assassins in the world gave up everything, the bloodshed, the glory, the infamy for love... and now runs a convenience store with a dad bod? Sounds absurd, right? That was my exact thought when I stumbled across Sakamoto Days. I didn’t expect much. I thought, “Just another over-the-top, gag-infused action anime.” But from the first episode, I was hooked, chained, even. And now, I need to tell you why.

I had been on a heavy anime binge- deep psychological, sad romance, emotionally draining thrillers. I required a change. Something fun. An escape of existential angst and heartache. One of my friends in the USA recommended Sakamoto Days to me. It is described as John Wick meets One Punch Man but with dad jokes. The strange description itself was sufficient enough to get me curious.

I pressed the vimeo link, and after just a few seconds, I could see an obese man avoiding bullets and cleaning the store floor and giving discounts to the customers with a smile. There it is. I was in.

It is a story that revolves around Taro Sakamoto who is a once feared hitman in the underground world. The mere mention of his name made enemies shiver. However, one day there comes a woman, he falls in love and retires. Not only retires, but utterly changes himself into a chubby humble owner of a convenience store. Sounds peaceful, does it not?

    Not quite.

Sakamoto does not give up his past that easily. Old foes knock the door. New killers are after his head. Mysterious groups reemerge. However, there is the twist, Sakamoto promised his wife not to kill anyone again. And now, any conflict he has to engage in is a lesson in non-lethal takedowns, clever strategies, and excessive martial arts choreography... all the time, keeping the store clean and well-supplied.

It’s ridiculous. It’s brilliant. It is all that which you did not realize you wanted.

The most impressive thing about Sakamoto Days is that it can combine action and comedy, without being shallow in any way. Yes, the battles are crazy - seriously, you are going to rewatch certain scenes just to see how Sakamoto combats assassins with rubber chicken or canned beverages, but the plot also develops emotional potential.

We have a glimpse of the Sakamoto psyche. He is not simply a retired killer but a man who is continuously in conflict with his violent nature of the past and the calm life that he desires his family to live. His adoration toward his wife and daughter is not a backstory but a motive of all his actions.

There are supporting characters such as Shin, a telepathic assassin-cum-employee and Lu Xiaotang, the badass daughter of a martial arts master who bring in the comedy and substance. They are not mere sidekicks, they have arcs, secrets and demons to battle with.

When I watched Sakamoto Days, I was reminded of something personal, which is how many times we have versions of ourselves in the past and we attempt to keep them to ourselves. Sakamoto did not forget about himself. He opted to be more to the people he loved.

That was a slap in the face.

There are aspects of ourselves which we have grown out of. Or perhaps, it is the angry, reckless, cold one, the version of you. It could be a broken or hurt person. You can make the choice of peace just like Sakamoto. Still you may be strong and gentle at once.

The action scenes are of the best quality, but what fascinated me the most was not the action scenes. It was the manner in which the anime made me care. Worry over a fat man with a mustache that is trying to manage a store. Bein concerned over his promises. Concern over his silly friends. And when the stakes get higher, as they do, it is because the show compelled you to care about these people on an emotional level.

The animation is smooth and clean, as are the action scenes that are weighty and fast. Each punch, kick, dodge, and the turned-into-weapon objects are choreographed thoroughly. One moment you will laugh and then you will hold your breath.

The music is lively and alternates between light-hearted and tense as a scene changes. The voice acting? Spot-on. Sakamoto also does not speak much, his grunts, sighing, and soft words are so expressive. It is a genius voice direction.

When you are getting weary of yet another action anime with far too mopey characters or plot which takes itself far too seriously, you should give Sakamoto Days a try, because it is your savior.

Want humor? It is funny and not embarrassing.

Want a heart? The family set-up is healthy.

Want action? So ingenious are the fight scenes that they are like puzzles.

Desire characters that you come to like? You will be in love with all of them- even the bad guys

Sakamoto Days is not all bang and a punchy comedy of an ex-hitman with a dad bod. It is a tale of choices, redemption, loyalty and beauty of simple life- all in a package of action and a dose of absurdity.

It informs us that you can be lethal and yet soft. That there are times when the toughest guy in the room is the one that does not pull the trigger. That you do not have to forget your past to make a future, you simply have to live better, choose peace and guard what is important.

Therefore, in case you want a show that will make you laugh or cheer and perhaps even reflect a bit on the possibilities of becoming and changing, then Sakamoto Days should be on your list next.

There’s something quietly devastating about Sakamoto Days, though I didn’t expect it. I went in thinking I’d get a silly ex-hitman comedy with flashy kills and quirky side characters. And yes, the bullets fly, the punches land, and there are moments of absurd brilliance that made me genuinely laugh. But beneath all that noise, what I found was… grief. A man haunted by the echo of his own silence. I don’t mean trauma in the cheap, marketable way. I mean the kind that sits in the room with you while you fold laundry, while you ring up a customer, while you try to raise a child in a world that doesn’t forgive what you were. It’s in Sakamoto’s eyes—the kind that no longer beg for redemption, only rest.

Every time he smiles, it hurts a little. Not because it’s fake, but because you can feel how much effort it costs him. How much history is being held back behind that gentle nod, that quiet grunt. He used to be a monster. He chose not to be. And that’s the heart of this show—it’s not about redemption arcs or revenge fantasies. It’s about what happens after the myth ends. About the daily practice of choosing softness in a brutal world. The convenience store isn’t just a gimmick. It’s his sanctuary. His rebellion. His tiny, fragile peace. And the fact that it keeps getting invaded by ghosts of his past? That’s what makes every fight scene sting.

The action is clever, yes, but it’s also tragic. Sakamoto isn’t enjoying it. He’s just surviving. And yet, there’s humor, absurdity, even joy in how it’s choreographed. It’s an elegant contradiction—violence rendered with wit, speed, restraint. The kind of fights that say more in a single movement than some shows manage in ten episodes of exposition. And the supporting cast? They’re more than sidekicks. They’re mirrors. Shin, with all his noise and psychic anguish, feels like a younger version of a man still hoping to be understood. Lu is an entire subversion of what we expect from women in action anime—graceful, yes, but also brutal, decisive, and emotionally grounded.

Still, Sakamoto Days isn’t perfect. The pacing flirts with sluggishness. Some plot beats repeat themselves, and there are stretches where I caught myself checking the clock. But that’s the thing—this show isn’t trying to impress you with constant escalation. It breathes. It sits in its world. It trusts that you'll stay for the quiet in between, not just the spectacle. That alone earns my respect. It’s not desperate for your love. It knows what it is, and it lets you arrive on your own terms.

I didn’t expect to feel seen by an ex-hitman who communicates mostly in grunts and grocery bags. But here we are. And maybe that’s the magic of anime when it’s done right—it finds the part of you that you forgot existed. The part that’s tired, but still trying. The part that knows what it means to carry peace like it’s a weapon. Sakamoto Days isn’t loud. It doesn’t scream to be remembered. But it lingers. It stays. And sometimes, that’s all we need.

Hello friends, good vibes to all.

    **

Hola amigos, buenas vibras para todos.

    Source!

We must recognize that the company with the big red letter N has been doing things quite well lately. In my experience with Dandadan, Devil May Cry and now Sakamoto Days has been spectacular. You don't get such a complete story everywhere and this plot has it all, high quality animation, a combination of comedy and action from beginning to end that involves details of the mafia, secret assassin organizations and the simplest of everyday fights but with a touch of epicness. For those who haven't seen it I would say that Taro Sakamoto is kind of like John Wick but 100 times stronger and faster.

Sakamoto was one of the best assassins that Japan saw, no one was above him. One day, as fate would have it, he decides to retire from this profession and settle down, start a family. He does so, gets married and has a beautiful daughter so his life now revolves around them and to protect them from anything. But when someone has such a heavy past, it usually doesn't go away so easily. Taro's peace of mind comes to an end when he learns that there is a reward for killing him and that from now on countless assassins will try to collect the sum of money at the cost of his life. Being who he is, Sakamoto doesn't flinch and must once again put his skills to the test to keep his family out of trouble.

    Source!

He will not be alone, he will be accompanied by Shin, an assassin who wanted to collect the reward but could not and who, because he had a history in the past with Sakamoto, stayed by his side helping him. The plot is super simple, try to survive all the assassins that begin to come into their lives. Towards the end of the anime, the story may change slightly and have more lore or depth as we will know a little more of Shin's past while Sakamoto's old companions will appear. It all comes together in one place to set the stage for what may happen in the second season. It must be said that Shin has psychic powers, he is able to read minds, which makes everything much more interesting and entertaining.

The real value of this anime is to see Sakamoto fight. It is to see how with the most everyday things he is able to immobilize and knock out anyone. Maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but he is one of the most skilled characters I remember in an anime, it's impressive everything he can do, how immune he is to almost any damage, the speed he has, the abysmal and absurd strength he shows and all of this being a human, there are no traps or powers here. For example, seeing him and Shin fight is also the best because they complement each other very well, each one uses his abilities and the result is a brutal fight, an extremely lethal duo.

The comedy is very present, in fact I think that beyond the action the main genre is that. The interactions, reactions, some dialogues, things that happen during a fight (dodging a bullet with your jowls) make you really have a good time watching this anime. It's very fresh and fun. I think it's the daily life and the environment where things happen that makes the violence go a little unnoticed. Although as I said, this doesn't make the story soft, there are times where the blood takes a lot of protagonism. None of this would be remarkable if the animation did not accompany, it is of a very high quality, the fluidity shown in all the fights is top, the use of slow motion, the character design, has details that we see from the great anime, nothing to envy.

The characters are very endearing, they have a very particular charisma and personality. Sakamoto's evolution is remarkable, it shows us that when the right people come into your life you can be able to change for the better and focus on what really matters, the love of your family. That duality of commitment as a father and husband and being a former lethal assassin is very interesting to watch. This first season is 11 episodes. Episode 12 and the second installment arrives in July. I leave the trailer below. Highly recommended.

Altamente recomendado.

  6. Falling into hype with Sakamoto Days@musicandreview536d

For a couple of months I have been hearing and seeing information about the new releases for this 2025, and well, beyond being happy to know that Solo Leveling and Dr. Stone would be among them, I saw that there was one in particular that caught my attention and I'm talking about Sakamoto Days. Once I saw the trailer I was not very convinced, however, I did not lose the curiosity to know why so many people were talking about this anime on the web, the last one I saw attracted by the hype was Dandadan and it turned out quite well, so I understood that there are anime that come with good support thanks to the success of their respective manga.

The Sakamoto Days manga has been published since 2021 and the truth is that I must confess that I was totally unaware of its existence, but that is perhaps because I do not usually read manga, I guess those who are more dedicated to this already knew what was coming and that is why they were not surprised that the premiere of this anime had so much hype. Anyway, to give you some information, this story was created by Yuto Suzuki who only has this serialized story, or at least I didn't find more information about previous or later works. The animation is in charge of the studio TMS Entertainment which has a very long history of good titles.

This story tells us about Taro Sakamoto, a super dangerous assassin who managed to gain the respect and admiration of the underworld, his skills are ridiculously superior to those of the vast majority, his patient attitude makes his next move can be an unknown, but usually tends to be very direct and aggressive in their attacks. The turning point of this story is that Sakamoto fell in love with the woman who would later become his wife, this caused him to drastically change his lifestyle and at a certain point he retired from contract killing to dedicate himself to his family and to run a store. Soon after, he put on weight as a result of inactivity and frequent consumption of instant ramen.

His retirement meant a great disappointment for those who admired him, but we know that those who have had that kind of life can't just retire, so at a certain point his former boss sent a guy to assassinate him and that's where Shin makes his appearance, this guy has telepathic powers, so he can read the minds of those who are close to him.

Shin did not like the idea of having to kill someone he admired, but he failed miserably in his attempt because Sakamoto, despite being overweight, still retains his lethal abilities. It is at that moment where the interesting and comical dynamic between these two characters begins, and it seems that they will give us quite entertaining adventures.

Sakamoto Days | Final Trailer | Netflix

So far I have only seen 2 chapters, but at this point I can already say that I liked what I saw. This anime transmits a kind of simplicity that linked to the good comedy that makes the chapters pleasant, they passed quite quickly because the story is direct, the flashbacks are brief, but with the necessary information to understand the dynamics of the anime. I must emphasize that one of the things I liked the most of what I have seen so far has been Sakamoto's attitude and personality, he wants to live in peace with his family and promised his wife that he would not kill again, but that does not mean he lost his ability to be lethal or his aggressiveness, in fact, I feel that at a certain point he is repressed.

The animation so far has been simple, but the truth is that it hasn't required more graphic depth, I think this is that kind of anime that is not featured for its animation but for its good story, so I'll ignore that section from now on. The opening theme is very good, it's quite typical, but I really like the chorus, so this song is already a candidate for one of my bass cover songs. I highly recommend this anime, I don't think you're going to dislike it, I think it's quite easy to get into the story, but the best of all is that you can laugh at the witticisms of the good characters that Sakamoto Days has.

  7. Review Sakamoto Days 👊 Hitman Who Just Wants To Live in Peace@alienpunklord537d

Welcome to another art post here in the community.

After much anticipation, we finally got the premiere of Sakamoto Days, and, honestly, I must confess that my inner fan of shonen manga was quite excited. This adaptation was eagerly awaited not only by loyal manga readers though I’ve never read it myself but also by curious viewers drawn to the premise of the former hitman who just wants to live in peace.
But did the anime live up to the hype, or is it just "one more"?

Continue the post to analyze this.

    image.png

From the moment the episode began, the initial vibe already delivered that relaxed and captivating tone.
Taro Sakamoto, the legendary former hitman, is now an adorable grocery store owner, but don’t be fooled he’s still capable of taking down anyone who dares to disturb his peace. This mix of comedy, action, and a touch of slice of life is what makes many people compare Sakamoto Days to works like Gokushufudou and even the more serious John Wick universe.

I think that John Wick comparison is a bit too much no comparisons to the best assassin Keanu Reeves, please!

    But here’s the thing:
Sakamoto Days is much more unique than these comparisons might suggest. Yes, it has a retired protagonist returning to action, but the way the story unfolds especially with the introduction of characters like Shin Asakura (the guy hired to kill Sakamoto who ends up becoming his partner) brings an interesting freshness. Their relationship is almost comedic but full of possibilities for plot development.

    image.png

Humor in just the right measure and well-choreographed action.

The balance between comedy and action was something I really enjoyed in the first episode. The fight scenes are fluid and dynamic, with choreography that respects the manga's original material. You can tell the production team made an effort to preserve the essence of the comics something that isn’t always guaranteed in adaptations.

    image.png

    Moreover, the humor works well.
Sakamoto is a charismatic protagonist who doesn’t need many words, while Shin brings a more explosive and talkative contrast. Their dynamic reminded me of the classic "unlikely duo" trope, but with its own charm that keeps you engaged.

    image.png

    Not everything is perfect.

I missed deeper emotional development. Of course, I understand that the initial goal is to hook the audience with exciting scenes, but it would be nice if they showed more of Sakamoto's human side, especially his relationship with his family, which is the main reason for his retirement. Another point is that, despite all its originality, Sakamoto Days still feels like “I’ve seen this before.”

Not that this is a bad thing, but it’s something to think about.

The series will need to quickly establish its unique identity, especially because the anime audience is demanding and doesn’t forgive works that seem "generic."

From browsing forums and social media, the reception has been very positive. Many praised the faithfulness to the manga and the episode's pacing, while some highlighted the animation quality. Of course, there are always comparisons to other works, but overall, the community seems pleased with the start of this journey.

After watching the first episode and absorbing all the hype around Sakamoto Days, my rating is 8/10. It’s a solid premiere, with the potential to grow and become one of the season’s favorite anime. The mix of action, comedy, and captivating characters is a combo that rarely fails.

However, I still want to see how the story develops over the next episodes. If they can deepen the characters and maintain the quality of the action scenes, the anime has everything to stand out and earn a place in fans’ hearts.

And you, have you watched it?

What did you think of the first episode?

Does Sakamoto Days have what it takes to be great, or will it end up as just another fun shonen? Leave a comment and share your thoughts in the #TheAnimeRealm community.

  8. Review: Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto | Anime's Most Absurdly Cool Student [ENG-ESP]@jessuses1381543d

Hello to all otaku community, I hope you are doing great today... today I want to bring you a new review, this time I will talk about the anime: Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto or also known as Sakamoto desu ga. Actually, I didn't expect much from this series when I started it, I watched it some years ago, and I still remember it perfectly... I thought it would be one of those typical overrated anime, with a guy with one joke that gets exhausted fast by the third episode, but wow, I was so wrong. This anime is really ridiculous, in the best possible way.. it can also be extremely touching, but I feel like in a way it's weird, but at the same time worth watching..
First things first, let's talk about the main character, Sakamoto, he is the definition of perfection.. he is smart, athletic, stylish, and can turn the most mundane situation into an action movie scene, or a super emotional scene.. you would think this would become very annoying, right? How many times can you see someone perfectly dodge a chalkboard eraser, or look perfect in absolutely everything they do? You might think it's boring to a certain extent, but somehow you don't get bored watching this anime... the narrative relies so heavily on absurdity, that it becomes a kind of unique comedy. It's like you know you have no understanding of what you're watching, but the charisma of the main character himself grabs you.. one of the things that surprised me was how much hidden depth this anime can have, on the surface it may seem like a simple comedy about a guy who is too cool for school, but underneath all the ridiculous antics that constantly pop up, there is a certain genuine message about kindness and self-improvement.
Sakamoto isn't just cool because he's perfect, he's cool because he makes everyone around him better or brings out the best version of themselves, whether it's helping a fellow student who is bullied find his confidence again, or turning a group of delinquents into better people by getting them to just blow bubbles.... Sakamoto's perfection isn't just about showing off his perfect style or his great life, it's about uplifting others and supporting them to the point of making them the best versions of themselves while looking incredibly handsome and unkempt. Isn't that funny and beautiful?

Sakamoto is the kind of protagonist that many of you will be able to get attached to, as he always tries to help those people in need, but instead of stepping in as a generic hero, Sakamoto encourages all those people to always try to find the answers.... He doesn't give them easy solutions, he empowers them to the point that they themselves try to cope with their problems on their own, giving unique advice... it's very interesting to see how much hard work it can be to be there for someone, one of the things that makes this character so great is that he can send such simple yet powerful messages... and that sometimes the best way to help someone is just to show them that they can help themselves.
And well, then there's the humor.. this anime can make you laugh out loud on many occasions, I had a pretty good time, there are some really good jokes, and it's not just the over the top situations, but also the way the story itself plays with your expectations and your perspectives.... You think you know where the scene or the story is going to go and suddenly wham! Sakamoto pulls out an unusual and super unexpected move that leaves you shocked and dead laughing, there are many situations where this character does such inexplicable and nonsensical things that it's inevitable to laugh.. as this anime takes itself very seriously, which makes everything much more dramatic and exaggerated.

But Sakamoto is not the only star in this anime, the supporting cast is surprisingly well developed for a comedy anime. At first they seem like typical high school stereotypes, the bullies, the popular girls, the nerds, but as the episodes progress you see different sides of all of them, for example we meet Atsushi, one of the delinquents.. who starts out as that tough, intimidating guy, but in the end ends up becoming a pretty... lovable character? Seeing that transformation from thug, to one of Sakamoto's biggest fans was honestly one of the highlights of the whole story, at least for me. Now, I admit that the humor may not be for everyone, if you don't like absurd comedy as much as I do, and you're not as familiar to over-the-top situations, this anime may just not be your thing.
And yes, some jokes can feel a bit repetitive if you watch several episodes in a row, but for me the self-awareness of the anime itself makes it different and very fresh... you know it's ridiculous and the narrative knows this, it simply uses it to prop itself up and keep going. Also, the episodes are so short that even if a joke doesn't work, it's over before you know it... Talking a bit about the animation, I consider that the DEEN studio that worked on this anime did a pretty decent job, the art style is clean and simple, which works perfectly with the typical tone of this anime. The way they animate Sakamoto's cool moments is the best of the best... all those flashes, dramatic angles, the slow motion shots, everything is so exaggerated and I loved every second of it... it's pretty typical animation, but not sloppy and I liked that.

And obviously I couldn't avoid talking about the Opening of this anime... it's a complete gem, catchy, energetic, and sets the perfect tone to get you ready for all the chaos to come, it's one of those songs that if you listen to more than 3 times right away, you'll want to include it in your playlist like I did. By the time I got to the final episode, I was completely sucked into this whole wave of ridiculousness and emotionality, without giving too much away, the ending managed to be both funny and surprisingly emotional. There's a sense of closure that ties everything together, and for me personally it left me with a smile from ear to ear... it's rare that a comedy anime tries to deeply connect with you, and obviously it's even rarer that it manages to have such a satisfying ending that feels like true closure to everything, but hey, this anime pulls it off. I seriously recommend it... it's not the eighth wonder of the world, but it can be both funny and thoughtful, and most of all, it feels different.
If you're looking for something light and entertaining to brighten up your day, have a few laughs, well here's the brilliant Sakamoto to show you how cool you have to be in life...I give it an 8/10 rating. It's a wild and funny trip, that just remembering it makes me laugh... hopefully at some point we can see a continuation, because I would really like to see these characters again... but well, let me know your opinion. Did you know this anime? Have you seen it? And well, that's all for today, I'll leave the catchy opening a little bit below for you to check it out. See you in the next reviews, take care, bye bye.
