Ayer estuve buscando alguna película que fuera interesante y me encontré con un documental súper motivacional pero a la vez muy duro que muestra la realidad de muchas personas las cuáles pasaron por una infancia y adolescencia difícil debido a la falta de cuidado y apoyo por parte de sus padres. Hoy les quiero hablar sobre el documental: Homeless to Harvard una historia llena de dificultades y lecciones de vida.

Yesterday I was looking for a movie that was interesting and I came across a super motivational but at the same time very hard documentary that shows the reality of many people who went through a difficult childhood and adolescence due to the lack of care and support from their parents. Today I want to talk about the documentary: Homeless to Harvard a story full of difficulties and life lessons.
La historia de este documental está basado en la vida real de una mujer llamada Liz Murray, quien desde temprana edad tuvo que vivir la negligencia y el abandono por parte de sus padres, ambos siendo drogadictos y hundidos en el mundo de las adicciones con dos hijas que criar nunca pudieron ser lo que ellas esperaban, los padres responsables y amorosos que debieron ser pero que por sus propios problemas emocionales y traumas cayeron en la oscuridad. Tanto para Liz como para su hermana fue difícil tener que ser prácticamente las cuidadoras de sus padres.
The story of this documentary is based on the real life of a woman named Liz Murray, who from an early age had to live through neglect and abandonment by her parents, both of whom were drug addicts and sunk in the world of addictions with two daughters to raise who could never be what they expected, the responsible and loving parents they should have been but who because of their own emotional problems and traumas fell into obscurity. It was difficult for both Liz and her sister to have to practically be their parents' caregivers.
Liz sufrió desde los trece años el no tener alguien que cuidara de ella y de su hermana, llevándola a vivir en un estado de decadencia y abandono que se ve reflejado en su casa llena de suciedad y desorden donde no tenía ni siquiera para comer y muchas veces su único escape era estar en las calles de Nueva York dónde nació y se crió. A pesar de esta situación tan difícil ella tenía un amor indescriptible por sus padres, muchas veces buscó a su mamá borracha en bares, la salvó de ser asaltada y también fue la persona que cuidó de ella en sus momentos más oscuros a pesar de ser solo una joven adolescente.
Liz suffered since she was thirteen years old from not having someone to take care of her and her sister, leading her to live in a state of decadence and abandonment that is reflected in her house full of dirt and disorder where she didn't even have enough to eat and many times her only escape was to be in the streets of New York where she was born and raised. Despite this difficult situation she had an indescribable love for her parents, many times she looked for her drunk mother in bars, saved her from being mugged and was also the person who took care of her in her darkest moments even though she was only a young teenager.
Las cosas no terminan para nada bien con los padres de Liz por lo que ella decide que lo mejor es separarse de ese ambiente que la enferma y buscar en la calle la forma de sobrevivir, la única palabra que conoce desde pequeña, la supervivencia la lleva a conocer a otros jóvenes con problemas al igual que ella, termina en una casa hogar pero al final se escapa porque este lugar era el infierno y estaba lleno de jóvenes muy violentos, cosa que no la caracteriza a ella, siempre tiene una forma de ver las cosas de manera positiva aunque estuviera en la peor situación.
Things do not end well at all with Liz's parents so she decides that the best thing to do is to separate herself from that environment that makes her sick and look for a way to survive in the street, the only word she knows since she was a child, survival leads her to meet other young people with problems like her, she ends up in a group home but in the end she escapes because this place was hell and was full of very violent young people, something that does not characterize her, she always has a way of seeing things positively even if she was in the worst situation.
Algo que siempre estuvo en pausa en la vida de Liz fueron sus estudios, llegó hasta la primaria sin culminarla y a pesar de no estar constantemente en la escuela, tenía una capacidad increíble para aprender y muchos de los que fueron sus profesores le decían que ella era una joven brillante, por lo que ella se aferró a la idea de seguir estudiando para tener un futuro mejor y todo si esfuerzo le dió resultados llevándola a estudiar a Harvard, esto fue una de las cosas que más me impresionó de toda la película ya que desde el comienzo se ve la tristeza y abandono en el que ella vivía que cualquiera pensaría que tomaría las mismas decisiones que sus padres y sería una adicta, pero hizo todo lo contrario.
Something that was always on pause in Liz's life was her studies, she got to elementary school without finishing it and despite not being constantly in school, she had an incredible ability to learn and many of her teachers told her that she was a brilliant young woman, This was one of the things that impressed me the most in the whole movie, since from the beginning you can see the sadness and abandonment in which she lived, anyone would think that she would make the same decisions as her parents and would be an addict, but she did the opposite.
Finalmente la película se termina en la parte en la que ella es seleccionada para ir a Harvard, pero me puse a investigar y leí que Liz estuvo un tiempo en Harvard y luego decidió dejar esa universidad y entrar a otra para estar más cerca de su padre que se encontraba muy enfermo en esos tiempos, por lo que Liz además de ser una joven brillante y de buenas calificaciones, tenía un corazón tan grande que a pesar de lo que vivió decidió siempre recordar a sus padres con amor y no con rencor y eso es algo que parece imposible, creo que si hubiera vivido algo así no hubiera sido capaz de perdonar tantos abusos.
Finally the movie ends in the part where she is selected to go to Harvard, but I started to investigate and I read that Liz was at Harvard for a while and then decided to leave that university and enter another one to be closer to her father who was very ill at that time, so Liz besides being a bright young woman with good grades, had such a big heart that despite what she lived she decided to always remember her parents with love and not with resentment and that is something that seems impossible, I think that if I had lived something like that I would not have been able to forgive so many abuses.
La historia de Liz demuestra que sin importar que tan difícil sea tu pasado, puedes cambiar tu destino y hacer las cosas diferentes, que las decisiones de nuestros padres no nos definen aunque puedan causarnos daño y que siempre tenemos el poder de elegir ver por nuestro futuro cómo ella lo hizo, siempre buscando aprender y estudiando para poder ayudar a otros, la información que está en internet es que ella se graduó de Psicóloga y además es escritora de un libro que es best seller. Sin duda nuestra crianza puede marcar la forma en la que nos comportamos y vemos el mundo, pero está historia nos da una lección de que es nuestra decisión ser cómo nuestros antepasados o ser una versión mejorada para sanarnos.
Liz's story shows that no matter how difficult your past is, you can change your destiny and do things differently, that the decisions of our parents do not define us even though they may cause us harm and that we always have the power to choose to see for our future as she did, always looking to learn and studying to help others, the information that is on the internet is that she graduated as a psychologist and is also the author of a best selling book. Undoubtedly our upbringing can mark the way we behave and see the world, but this story gives us a lesson that it is our choice to be like our ancestors or be an improved version to heal ourselves.
