Lately, South Korean productions are covering quite a lot of the film market, even more actors from this nation can be seen in American and European productions, which I think is very positive. And in that sense I decided to see the film Hunters in inhospitable land, since I heard about it I called my attention, although not enough to see it at once, however I had it pending, so I took the time and took a look at it.
In the cast only one actor stands out, Ma Dong-seok, better known as Don Lee and that was one of the reasons why I wanted to see it, but after doing so I had the question that I titled the post, is it really good? Is it worth taking the time to watch it? Honestly I'm not sure and it depends on the tastes of each person, in my case I was entertained but no more than that.
It all starts with a scene worthy of science fiction, a doctor who wants to save his daughter from imminent death through experiments, but because of the failed attempts the government detains him in his own laboratory, fortunately for him at the time of his apprehension occurs an earthquake of massive scale that practically devastates the entire earth, because of this the survivors are scarce, and they are the focus of the whole film.
I must admit that this kind of plots call my attention a bit, the themes where human survival is at stake are very interesting to see especially when approached correctly, and at this point is where the story lost a lot of appeal for me, because despite creating an apocalyptic atmosphere the development of the film was very fanciful, which seemed to me a blunder, I was expecting something else honestly.
On the one hand we have our protagonist as the most feared man on earth, he wipes out crocodiles with just a butcher's machete, nobody defeats him, he barely gets beaten and destroys an army full of ex-military men practically by himself because his assistants really do very little. He looks like a retired super hero who wants to live in peace and not be bothered by anyone.
That was the impression I got, plus the producers wanted to make an avengers type production, where they included "comic" scenes in moments of seriousness and action to try to get a smile out of the audience, but with me they couldn't, in fact I saw it as something very unoriginal.
The counterpart or the antagonist of the story is the doctor who survived the earthquake thanks to his experiments, and created a kind of "utopia" in the only building that did not collapse, he armed himself with an army of reptilians and continued with his experiments, but to make sure he succeeds he needs young people, because of that they kidnap children for that purpose.
I use the term reptilians because of the resemblance to the first Spiderman movie where the doctor becomes a reptile and villain due to his failed experiments. That idea was taken for this movie, because the soldiers can not die unless their heads are cut off, otherwise they endure all kinds of injuries and recover, but their skin has come to be a camouflage of their internal appearance, they are practically hybrids of people and reptiles.
In short, I found it a pretty poor movie, and I do not consider it good, it can entertain but no more than that, there is no character development, but everything is action, kidnapping and rescue, that's what the two hours and some production is based on. I think they could have done a better job, so all in all it's not a movie I recommend, unless you have two hours to spare to spend on this film. The only thing I can rescue is the setting, there they did a good job, but from the rest there is not much to appreciate. That's my personal opinion.

Cazadores en tierra inhóspita: ¿Es realmente una buena pelicula?
Últimamente las producciones surcoreanas están abarcando bastante mercado cinematográfico, incluso se pueden ver más actores de esta nación en producciones americanas y europeas, lo cual me parece muy positivo. Y en ese sentido decidí ver la película Cazadores en tierra inhóspita, desde que supe de ella llamo mi atención, aunque no tanto como para verla de una vez, sin embargo la tenía pendiente, así que me tome el tiempo y le di un vistazo.
En el elenco destaca uno solo actor, Ma Dong-seok, mejor conocido como Don Lee y ese fue uno de los motivos por lo cual quería verla, pero después de hacerlo me surgió la interrogante con la cual titule el post, ¿es realmente buena? ¿Vale la pena dedicar tiempo para verla? Honestamente no estoy seguro y depende de los gustos de cada quien, en mi caso me entretuvo pero no más de allí.
Todo comienza con una escena digna de ciencia ficción, un doctor que quiere salvar a su hija de una muerte inminente a través de experimentos, pero a causa de los intentos fallidos el gobierno lo detiene en su propio laboratorio, afortunadamente para el en el momento de su aprehensión ocurre un terremoto de escala masiva que prácticamente devasta toda la tierra, debido a esto los sobrevivientes son escasos, y en ellos se centra toda la película.
Debo admitir que este tipo de trama me llaman un poco la atención, los temas donde la supervivencia humana está en juego son muy interesantes de ver sobre todo cuando se abordan correctamente, y en este punto es donde la historia perdió mucho atractivo para mí, pues a pesar de crear un ambiente apocalíptico el desarrollo de la película fue muy fantasioso, lo cual me pareció un desacierto, esperaba otra cosa honestamente.
Por un lado tenemos a nuestro protagonista como el hombre más temido de la tierra, acaba con cocodrilos con solo un machete de carnicero, nadie lo derrota, apenas lo golpean y destruye un ejército lleno de ex militares prácticamente el solo porque sus ayudantes realmente hacen muy poco. Parece un súper héroe retirado que quiere vivir en paz y que nadie lo moleste.
Esa fue la impresión que me dio, además los productores quisieron realizar una producción tipo vengadores, donde incluyeron escenas “cómicas” en momentos de seriedad y acción para tratar de sacar una sonrisa a la audiencia, pero conmigo no pudieron, de hecho lo vi como algo muy poco original.
La contraparte o el antagonista de la historia es el doctor que sobrevivió al terremoto gracias a sus experimentos, y creo una especie de “utopía” en el único edificio que no colapso, se armó de un ejército de reptilianos y continuo con sus experimentos, pero para asegurarse de tener éxito necesita gente joven, debido a eso secuestran niños para tal fin.
Uso el término de reptilianos debido al parecido a la primera película de Spiderman donde el doctor se convierte en un reptil y villano debido a sus experimentos fallidos. Esa idea la tomaron para esta película, pues los soldados no pueden morir a menos que le corten la cabeza, del resto soportan toda clase de heridas y se recuperan, pero su piel ha venido a ser un camuflaje de su apariencia interna, son prácticamente híbridos de personas y reptiles.
En fin, me ha parecido una película bastante pobre, y no la considero buena, puede entretener pero no más de allí, no hay desarrollo de personajes, sino que todo es acción, secuestro y rescate, en eso se basan las dos horas y algo de producción. Pienso que pudieron hacer un mejor trabajo, así que en definitiva no es una película que recomiendo, a menos que tengas dos horas libres para gastarlas en este film. Lo único que puedo rescatar es la ambientación, allí sí hicieron un buen trabajo, pero del resto no hay mucho que apreciar. Esa es mi opinión particular.
