Buen día Hivers, feliz fin de semana para todos. Anoche no me sentía muy bien anímicamente, así que tardé un poco en seleccionar qué ver en netflix. Sin embargo decidí irme por algo mucho más sci-fi de lo que he estado viendo últimamente.

Good morning Hivers, happy weekend to all. I wasn't feeling very well last night mood wise, so it took me a while to select what to watch on netflix. However I decided to go for something much more sci-fi than I've been watching lately.

Fue entonces cuando me tope con esta trama que tenía un largo tiempo por ver, de esas películas que tenía en mi lista vieja cuando mi cuenta de Netflix era alquilada y cada semana borraban lo que guardaba. Por ello muchas veces se me olvidaba volverla en alistar hasta que bueno, pasaron muchos años.

That's when I stumbled upon this plot that I had a long time to watch, one of those movies I had on my old list when my Netflix account was rented and every week they deleted what I saved. That's why I often forgot to re-list it until, well, many years went by.

Lo bueno es que netflix últimamente me está recomendando buenas películas según lo que he estado viendo, y la verdad es que no me quejo en absoluto de haberme cruzado con iboy, que por cierto no se si es una vocal (i) o si es más un signo de exclamación, pero en fin, que me la he disfrutado muchísimo.

The good thing is that netflix lately is recommending me good movies according to what I've been watching, and the truth is that I'm not complaining at all about having come across iboy, which by the way I don't know if it's a vowel (i) or if it's more of an exclamation mark, but anyway, I enjoyed it a lot.

Una de las primeras cosas que me hizo pensar es en lo caótico de estar dentro de las redes de todo el mundo. Si bien a veces el simple hecho de tener el celular encima para contentar miles cosas en diversas redes se vuelve algo bastante agotador, no quiero imaginar tener conexión con todo tipo de red digital.

One of the first things that made me think is how chaotic it is to be inside everyone's networks. While sometimes the simple fact of having your cell phone on you to content thousands of things on various networks becomes quite exhausting, I don't want to imagine being connected to every kind of digital network.

Por supuesto, si nos vamos al sentido común la curiosidad es algo que nos llev tal vez a desear tener ese "don", porque debemos estar claros que realmente no es un don, más bien parece una maldición dada de un evento infortunio donde un joven ha sobrevivido a una bala pero quien no volvió a despertar tal y como era.

Of course, if we go to common sense curiosity is something that leads us perhaps to desire to have that "gift", because we must be clear that it is not really a gift, it seems more like a curse given from an unfortunate event where a young man has survived a bullet but who did not wake up as he was.

Tom tiene el perfil perfecto de un adolescente lo bastante introvertido para convertirse en el juguete de burla de muchos. Es ese típico joven que cuando camina lo hace la mayoría de las veces con una mirada cabizbaja, incluso cuando se va a referir con sus amigos o conocidos.

Tom has the perfect profile of a teenager introverted enough to become the mockery toy of many. He is that typical young man who walks around with a crestfallen look on his face most of the time, even when he is going to talk to his friends or acquaintances.

Sin embargo, cuando se dan los elementos para saber un poco más sobre él, nos damos cuenta que dentro de sus características personales está también la falta de afecto y tal vez el hecho de que no tuvo una infancia muy buena.

However, when the elements are given to know a little more about him, we realize that within his personal characteristics is also the lack of affection and perhaps the fact that he did not have a very good childhood.

Se habla de drogas y posiblemente hasta de una muerte por sobredosis o suicidio. Esto es algo que nos lleva a la lógica sobre su personalidad, tal vez no ha salido de ese shock y siente muchas inseguridades a pesar de ser un chico inteligente, guapo y con un resto de personalidad que podría cautivar a la chica indicada.

There is talk of drugs and possibly even a death by overdose or suicide. This is something that leads us to the logic about his personality, maybe he has not come out of that shock and feels many insecurities despite being a smart, handsome guy with a rest of personality that could captivate the right girl.

Lucy sin embargo, es todo lo contrario a él, a pesar de compartir mismos gustos, la forma en que procesan los eventos infortunios de su vida es totalmente diferente.

Lucy however, is the opposite of him, despite sharing the same tastes, the way they process the unfortunate events of their lives is totally different.

No es que ella no deje de sentir dolor, pero busca no exteriorizarlo, más bien enfrentarlo de un modo en que no afecte a nadie y darle la oportunidad al tiempo a que la sane de recuerdos que por supuesto, quedan marcado en su piel que fue ultrajado, abusado y burlado.

It is not that she does not stop feeling pain, but seeks not to externalize it, but rather to face it in a way that does not affect anyone and give time the opportunity to heal the memories that of course, are marked on his skin that he was outraged, abused and mocked.

En esta trama no solo hay sci-fi también hay un tema importante sobre el bullying, el acoso y algo más que me gusto ver, y es el hecho de estar en un ambiente hostil donde los adolescentes son los más vulnerables.

In this plot there is not only sci-fi there is also an important theme about bullying, harassment and something else that I liked to see, and is the fact of being in a hostile environment where teenagers are the most vulnerable.

Son jóvenes que desde pequeños se han criado juntos en el mismo complejo habitacional, seguramente han compartido muchas cosas buenas juntos. Pero cuando el diablo pica, esta es una enfermedad que rápidamente se puede propagar, y es lo que pasa cuando la droga y violencia entra en estos sitios donde hay muchos jóvenes.

They are young people who since childhood have grown up together in the same housing complex, surely they have shared many good things together. But when the devil bites, this is a disease that can quickly spread, and that is what happens when drugs and violence enter these places where there are many young people.

Se convierten en esas esponjas que absorben ese mal comportamiento, olvidan las buenas costumbres y los valores llegando a un punto en que matan, violan o golpean a sus mismos amigos y vecinos de toda la vida.

They become these sponges that absorb this bad behavior, forget good habits and values, reaching a point where they kill, rape or beat their same friends and neighbors of all their lives.

Pero bueno, en esta historia hay un héroe, y no de Marvel ni de Dc. Su nombre es iboy y es un chico que tiene la posibilidad de acceder a cualquier tipo de red y tener el control del mismo, algo que le permite poder saber quienes son los involucrados en la violación de Lucy.

But well, in this story there is a hero, and not from Marvel or Dc. His name is Iboy and he is a guy who has the ability to access any kind of network and have control of it, something that allows him to know who are the people involved in Lucy's rape.

Pero más a fondo descubre cosas que lo lleva a meterse en más problemas donde no solo su vida peligra, sino que también la de su abuela y Lucy al ser una de las sospechosas dado que muchas cosas extrañas han empezado a suceder desde que le hicieron daño.

But more in depth he discovers things that leads him to get into more trouble where not only his life is in danger, but also that of his grandmother and Lucy being one of the suspects since many strange things have started to happen since she was hurt.

Tom es por supuesto iboy, y la forma en que pasó a ser un chico normal a alguien con un poder tecnológico en su cabeza, se los dejo a ustedes para que la curiosidad los lleve a ver esta estupenda película.

Tom is of course iboy, and the way he went from being a normal kid to someone with a technological power in his head, I leave it up to you so that curiosity will drive you to watch this great movie.

Por cierto, que de tener yo ese poder, no perdería tiempo escudriñando en los mensajes de mi pareja o algo similar, creo que seria el malo que robaría a los millonarios malos para darle a los pobres y llenar mi propio banco solo con pensarlo.

By the way, if I had that power, I wouldn't waste time sifting through my partner's messages or anything like that, I think I'd be the bad guy stealing from the bad millionaires to give to the poor and filling my own bank just thinking about it.

I must admit that the premise of this movie is quite disappointing and ridiculous without any scientific basis to consider it science fiction but rather mere fantasy with slight touches of science fiction, just as it is to a lesser degree films like Lucy that damage the plot with fantastic exaggerations and meaningless.
Outside of that, Iboy is a typical youth revenge movie. The film is about a shy and geek boy who is frequently abused by other boys at his school. One day when he's going to his best friend's house, he finds that she is being raped and starts to run away, as a result he's shot while making a call to the police and fragments of his cell phone are embedded in his brain.

These fragments give him the power to control all electronic devices, being able to hack devices, bank accounts and other things apart from having a vision with hyper reality. The fact those fragments of his phone are embedded in his brain and from there he obtains this "wonderful power" seems to me one of the most absurd ideas I've seen in a science fiction film, that is, under this premise, in my opinion the film is left without any speculative credibility destroying at least half of the film.

Debo admitir que la premisa de esta película es bastante decepcionante y ridícula sin ningún fundamento científico para considerarla ciencia ficción sino más bien mera fantasía con leves toques de ciencia ficción, así como lo es en menor grado películas como Lucy que dañan el argumento con exageraciones fantásticas y sin sentido.

Fuera de eso, Iboy es una película típica de venganza juvenil. La película se trata de un chico tímido y geek que frecuentemente es abusado por otros chicos de su escuela. Un día al dirigirse a casa de su mejor amiga encuentra que ella está siendo violada y empieza a huir, como resultado recibe un tiro mientras hacia una llamada a la policía y fragmentos de su teléfono celular quedan incrustados en su cerebro.

Estos fragmentos le dan un poder de controlar todos los artefactos electrónicos y dispositivos, pudiendo hackear dispositivos, cuentas bancarias y demás cosas aparte de tener una visión con realidad aumentada. El hecho de que fragmentos de su teléfono queden incrustados en su cerebro y de allí obtenga este “maravilloso poder” me parece una de las ideas más absurdas que he visto en una película de ciencia ficción, es decir bajo esta premisa ya bajo mi opinión la película queda sin credibilidad especulativa alguna destruyendo al menos la mitad de la película.

Knowing he has these powers, this boy begins to harass the bad guys in the film through so called messages and ruining their lives in general terms until he ends up involved with the mafia and in much more serious matters that get out of control. If it is true that it is satisfactory that a group of criminals is exterminated by their own victim, but the way to do it in this film is quite pathetic and ridiculous.

It's a teen film and seeing it from this perspective is not bad at all, however the film aims to create a serious atmosphere with this argument and it does not succeed due to the absurdity of the context.

Sabiendo que tiene estos poderes, este chico empieza a acosar a los malos del film a través de llamadas mensajes y arruinándoles la vida en términos generales hasta acabar metido con la mafia y en asuntos mucho más serios que se salen de control. Si es cierto que es satisfactorio que un grupo de criminales sea exterminado por su propia víctima, pero la manera de hacerlo en este film resulta bastante patética y ridícula.

Es una película juvenil y viéndola bajo esta perspectiva no es del todo mala sin embargo la película pretende crear una atmosfera seria con este argumento y no lo consigue por el absurdo del contexto.

To create genuine science fiction there must be a scientific argument, a credible speculation that leaves us imagining that possible situation. Through science fiction we can create a possible future, given certain circumstances, trying to create that world with a possible scientific argument, hence the name “science fiction”. When a movie strays completely from the merely possible, it is closer to fantasy than science fiction, no matter how much electronic devices, technology and super powers are involved.

Para crear genuina ciencia ficción debe haber un argumento científico, una especulación creíble que nos deje imaginando esa posible situación. A través de la ciencia ficción podemos crear un futuro posible, dadas ciertas circunstancias, tratando de crear ese mundo con un argumento científico posible, de ahí el nombre “ciencia ficción”. Cuando una película se aleja por completo de lo meramente posible es más cercana a la fantasía que a la ciencia ficción por mas involucrado que hayan dispositivos electrónicos, tecnología y súper poderes.

It is true that the film does not try to create a hard work of science fiction but sadly it strays too far from something that is merely possible, creating only a fantasy, youthful thriller for childish and naive minds.

Personally, it is not what I am looking for in a science fiction film and I may judge this film with a negative character because this is my favorite genre in both cinema and literature and it is the one I know best but you don't have to be a scholar science fiction to realize the mess of plot that this film offers us.

Discarding the main premise and imagining that this is possible, the film is a typical thriller work that offers absolutely nothing new. Containing incredibly fanciful and out of place scenes, without any common sense. By this I mean that I didn't even like the general context of the film.

Es cierto que la película no intenta crear una obra de ciencia ficción dura pero lamentablemente se aleja demasiado de algo que sea meramente posible, creando solo un thriller fantasioso, juvenil para mentes infantiles e ingenuas.

En lo personal no es lo que busco en una película de ciencia ficción y quizás juzgue esta película con un carácter negativo debido a que este es mi genero favorito tanto en cine como en literatura y es el que conozco mejor pero no hace falta ser un erudito de la ciencia ficción como para darse cuenta del bodrio de argumento que esta película nos ofrece.

Desechando la premisa principal e imaginando que esto sea posible, la película es una típica obra thriller que no ofrece absolutamente nada nuevo. Conteniendo escenas increíblemente fantasiosas y fuera de lugar, sin ningún sentido común. Con esto quiero decir que ni siquiera el contexto general de la película me gusto.

It is true that it can be entertaining, for something I finished watching it but it is certainly not a movie that I would see twice since I felt in many scenes as if they spit falsehoods in my face, just like movies like Fast and Furious do, the latter for me a reggaeton video of more than two hours, something completely unacceptable by my standards.

The cinema that I personally appreciate is a cinema that contributes something to our minds, which preferably leaves us a message, either negative or positive, but the idea of art is to convey an idea and when a film only entertains for me, it is a disposable film, art that is observed once, easily forgetting about these types of productions that do not provide us with anything at all, neither in artistic nor reflective terms.

In conclusion, this is a movie suitable for teenagers, entertaining but without any credibility, with an absurd plot and situations out of place. Personally, nothing recommendable in terms of science fiction.

Es cierto que puede ser entretenida, por algo la termine de ver pero ciertamente no es una película que vería dos veces ya que me sentí en muchas escenas como si escupieran falsedades en mi cara, así como lo hacen películas como Rápido y Furioso, esta última para mí un video de reggaetón de más de dos horas, algo completamente inaceptable bajo mis estándares.

El cine que personalmente aprecio es un cine que aporte algo en nuestras mentes, que preferiblemente nos deje un mensaje, bien sea negativo o positivo, pero la idea del arte es transmitir una idea y cuando una película solo cumple con entretener para mí, es una película desechable, arte que se observa una vez, olvidándonos fácilmente de este tipo de producciones que no nos aportan nada en absoluto, ni en términos artísticos ni reflexivos.

En conclusión, esta es una película apta para adolescentes, entretenida pero sin ningún tipo de credibilidad, con un argumento absurdo y situaciones fuera de lugar. En lo personal nada recomendable en términos de ciencia ficción.
