Incantation es una película de la que percibí cierta energía al empezar, me gusto esa sensación porque desvié la mirada, no quería ver directamente ni repetir lo que la película me quería mostrar y decir, en ese momento quede enganchado al film y su explicación ya que desde niño se me ha enseñado a pedir la bendición por tanto si creo en ella y en su contraparte que es el maleficio ya que la naturaleza se expresa en pares, bien y el mal, positivo y negativo, protón y electrón, hombre y mujer entre muchos otros ejemplos mas los cuales demuestran que a dios le encanta el número dos.

El film lanza toda la carne en el asador en su inicio, muy buena estrategia por parte del director ya que de lo contrario tendría todo un primer acto muy lento que pudiera perder al espectador, el mostrar lo impactante y misterioso con un recitar tétrico desde un inicio logra disimular lo lento que evolucionara la trama de la película.

Me quedo con su inicio, me logra impactar con ese impulso que luego cae enormemente a un vacío de lentitud característico de las películas de terror, considero esta bien pero si llega un punto del film que es muy lento y me llego a dar sueño, afortunadamente llego el tercer acto que rescata la película porque volví a la incomodidad inicial.

Maneja temática de deidades que como quisiera lo explicaran con mas detalle porque en mi caso me gustan ese tipo de mitologías pero comprendo que para un espectador general volvería muy aburrido al film, estemos claros que a la gran mayoría les gusta todo servido y fácil, este tipo de explicaciones que enriquecerían un film pudieran hacerlo caer en aburrimiento y no lograr el éxito comercial que busca, entonces acepto la decisión del director y guionistas de no ahondar demasiado en enriquecer la parte mitología del film y centrarse en su fuerte que es el terror psicológico usando palabras y una imagen fija.

Incantation is a film of which I perceived a certain energy at the beginning, I liked that feeling because I looked away, I did not want to see directly or repeat what the film wanted to show me and say, at that moment I was hooked to the film and its explanation because since childhood I have been taught to ask for the blessing therefore if I believe in it and its counterpart which is the evil spell as nature is expressed in pairs, good and evil, positive and negative, proton and electron, man and woman among many other examples which show that God loves the number two.

The film throws all the meat on the grill at the beginning, very good strategy by the director because otherwise it would have a very slow first act that could lose the viewer, showing the shocking and mysterious with a gloomy recitation from the beginning manages to disguise how slowly the plot of the film will evolve.

I'm left with its beginning, I managed to impact me with that momentum that then falls greatly to a vacuum of slowness characteristic of horror films, I consider this well but if there comes a point in the film that is very slow and I got to make me sleepy, fortunately came the third act that rescues the film because I returned to the initial discomfort.

It handles the theme of deities that as I would like to explain in more detail because in my case I like that kind of mythologies but I understand that for a general viewer would become very boring to the film, let's be clear that the vast majority like everything served and easy, this type of explanations that would enrich a film could make it fall into boredom and not achieve the commercial success it seeks, so I accept the decision of the director and screenwriters not to delve too much into enriching the mythological part of the film and focus on its forte which is the psychological terror using words and a still image.

Ahora si eres de los que gustan esos elementos mitología, disfruta las pocas explicaciones que hay como por ejemplo esa posición de manos en la miniatura de este post, lo que significa y su contraparte, de hecho no hago esa posición de manos, respeto esas cosas a la vez que me gusta estudiarlas, mucho de esto toma inspiración de lo milenario, ese saber de siglos que pasa generación por generación porque si hay algo que el ser humano busca es la explicación de las cosas y cuando no las consigue es que nacen las deidades y con ellas el respeto o mas bien el miedo a ellas.

Un detalle personal es que al momento de ver el film, no sabía que tan base real tenga la deidad que nombran, si es creada solo para la película entonces me gusto enormemente el concepto y el nombre que le dieron, tiene poder, transmite respeto, miedo, siempre he visto con admiración esas estatuas asiáticas con propósito religioso y eso esta presente en el film con su toque de horror.

Su detalle a criticar es la lentitud del segundo acto, es muy lento, pierde ese dinamismo inicial, el elemento culto se pudo aprovechar mucho mejor durante este acto porque aunque una de ellas si transmite incomodidad, el resto de personas miembros del grupo no me lo transmite, están presentes por rellenar y no me aportan nada, todo ese lugar que pudiera tener mas ritmo se queda en una trama de adolescentes que quieren jugar a ser influencers de lo paranormal.

El modo que hacen las cosas no me parece lógico, su falta de respeto por lo que creen esas personas, puede ser que en verdad sea así, muchos no respetan el creer de otros pero pienso fue exagerado sin mencionar que si adoras una deidad peligrosa, no te arriesgas por un grupo de adolescentes y a pesar de miembros del culto mostrar una actitud fuerte, se queda a mi parecer muy en nada.

Maleficio es un film que logro crear miedo en ese primer visionado y esa sensación de respeto por la oración que transmite mas la imagen fija es lo que mas me quedo del film, se percibió muy real y por eso se lleva 7.5 chiquitos de 10 en esta parte de la reseña sin spoilers, la protagonista junto a su hija se desempeñan para guiar la trama y mantener los momentos de terror pero apreció mucho mas el concepto Deidad demoniaca que es adorada por un culto el cual queda muy en segundo plano pero me hace recordar que en la vida real sucede así, religiones extrañas cuyos santos pueden hacer cosas malas y aun así muchas personas les veneran con dinero, comidas, altares en sus hogares por temor a represalias.

Its detail to criticize is the slowness of the second act, it is very slow, it loses that initial dynamism, the cult element could have been used much better during this act because although one of them does transmit discomfort, the rest of the members of the group do not transmit it to me, they are present to fill and do not contribute anything, all that place that could have more rhythm remains in a plot of teenagers who want to play to be influencers of the paranormal.

The way they do things does not seem logical to me, their lack of respect for what these people believe, it may be true, many do not respect the beliefs of others but I think it was exaggerated not to mention that if you worship a dangerous deity, you do not risk for a group of teenagers and despite cult members show a strong attitude, it remains in my opinion very nothing.

Maleficio is a film that managed to create fear in that first viewing and that feeling of respect for the prayer that transmits plus the still image is what stayed with me most of the film, it felt very real and that's why it gets 7. 5 out of 10 in this part of the review without spoilers, the protagonist along with her daughter perform to guide the plot and keep the moments of terror but I appreciated much more the concept of demonic deity who is worshiped by a cult which is very much in the background but it reminds me that in real life happens like that, strange religions whose saints can do bad things and yet many people worship them with money, food, altars in their homes for fear of reprisals.

Inicia Zona de Spoilers para mencionar esas escenas y aspectos mas llamativos del film mas allá del horror que si estuvo presente.

Lo mejor del film es su introducción y la protagonista llamada Ronan interpretada por Tsai Hsuan-yen que pide con vehemencia recites un encantamiento acompañado de la imagen fija con el símbolo, viene a mi mente los rezos de monjes y justo vi eso voltee la mirada, yo respeto mucho las cosas de deidades y claro al no saber si lo que mencionan esta basado en alguna real o no, opto por respetar y no seguir el juego porque como dije, se percibe algo, esa parte el film esta muy bien hecho y vaya que disfrute esa sensación.

Luego se acompaña de sacadas de dientes donde unas escenas mórbidas nunca están demás pero ya el film logro su cometido, que me quedara frente al televisor a disfrutar de la historia, la actriz me convence en su drama, es manipuladora, desde el minuto uno lo note, quiere algo malo y en efecto así era, ella quería compartir su maldición con tantos como pudiera para aligerar su carga y salvar a su hija pero conmigo no cuenta.

Este concepto de bendición y maldición es muy real, pido la bendición a mi mama porque quiero el bien en mi camino por tanto aplica lo contrario, que exista el mal y de ahí viene el miedo, esa explicación me gusto porque es muy palpable ya que nos enseñan la bendición desde pequeños, al menos en mi caso es así y el que usaran ese recurso fue muy atinado para tocar fibra en el espectador y entendiera la maldición.

La trama de la niña llamada Dodo cumple, es el elemento terror mas palpable porque es con ella donde vemos las manos y me recordó mucho al exorcista cuando ve al techo y parece que esta viendo algo.

Then it is accompanied by some morbid scenes that are never too much but the film achieved its goal, that I stayed in front of the TV to enjoy the story, the actress convinces me in her drama, she is manipulative, from minute one I noticed it, she wants something bad and indeed it was so, she wanted to share her curse with as many as she could to lighten her load and save her daughter but with me she doesn't count.

This concept of blessing and curse is very real, I ask for my mother's blessing because I want good in my path, therefore the opposite applies, that there is evil and that is where the fear comes from, I liked that explanation because it is very palpable since we are taught the blessing from childhood, at least in my case it is like that and the fact that they used that resource was very wise to touch the viewer's heartstrings and to understand the curse.

The plot of the girl named Dodo complies, it is the most palpable terror element because it is with her where we see the hands and it reminded me a lot of the exorcist when she sees the ceiling and it seems that she is seeing something.

Tiene sus detalles porque cuando le colocan el suero, el liquido cambia a ser asqueroso, en ese momento pensé que esa niña esta muerta en vida, hay que aceptar estos elementos sobrenaturales que se solapan sobre lo real pero una sustancia de suero vuelta un liquido asqueroso paranormal, pienso que esa niña ya no vivirá para contarlo sin embargo el poder del guion lo puede todo para que la estructura de terror siga y entretenido ver sufrir a la niña porque no podía comer.

El aspecto culto vemos muchos personajes, una inclusive le quitaron una oreja, cuando veo esto, me parece absurdo que dejen entrar a dos imbéciles a ese lugar, pienso no era necesario hacerlos lucir tan irrespetuosos, de hecho si los fueran usado como personajes de conocimiento, se fuera enriquecido el film porque a través de ellos pudiéramos haber conocido mas de la Madre Buda que es el elemento que mas me gusto porque es una deidad demoniaca, no es necesario ver un monstruo, esta deidad ejerce poder en el espectador para que sienta miedo pero casi no le conocimos.

Hay una pequeña escena de un moje experto en mitología de religiones asiáticas que explica es una deidad maligna pero para este punto ya lo sabemos y ya es el final del film, ni lo vi necesario, ok Ronan fue y ya sabía, no me parece impresionante eso, es obvio y Ming pago las consecuencias y se destrozo innecesariamente la frente por esto, por eso insisto que me fuera gustado ver los dos jóvenes con una estructura mas científica y no como influencers pendejos de lo paranormal para internet.

Este aspecto me afecta porque me gusta la religión, conocer su trasfondo, por que le veneran a una deidad, como hacen su ceremonia etc y me hizo falta esto, como se enriquecería enormemente el film con esto, vemos a Ronan al final con Runas y haciendo el símbolo con sus manos, eso me maravilla pero solo la vemos así porque si y aunque si se explica el símbolo de sus manos que me agrado enormemente eso, esas runas no se dice nada, hay gente que ni sabrá que son, esos detalles explicativos fortalecen la historia, no son solo una visual para el miedo, también son útiles para conocimiento porque luce espectacular esa escena junto con el rostro tapado de la Madre Buda cuando se revela.

Si vieron el film, déjame en comentarios cual escena o tema te agrado más para poder debatir esos momentos, ya conoces mi opinión y me quedo enormemente con el aspecto deidad, gracias por leerme y compartamos maldiciones para que nos vaya mejor, saludos.

There is a small scene of a moje expert in mythology of Asian religions that explains it is an evil deity but by this point we already know it and it is already the end of the film, I did not see it necessary, ok Ronan was and already knew, I do not find that impressive, it is obvious and Ming paid the consequences and unnecessarily destroyed his forehead for this, so I insist that I would have liked to see the two young people with a more scientific structure and not as asshole influencers of the paranormal for the internet.

This aspect affects me because I like religion, to know their background, why they worship a deity, how they do their ceremony etc and I missed this, as it would greatly enrich the film with this, we see Ronan at the end with Runes and making the symbol with his hands, that wonders me but we only see it just because and although if the symbol of his hands is explained I liked it enormously, Those explanatory details strengthen the story, they are not only a visual for fear, they are also useful for knowledge because it looks spectacular that scene along with the covered face of Mother Buddha when it is revealed.

Sinceramente, nunca pensé que llegaría el día en la que haría una reseña de una película que no me agrado, de hecho las que he visto que sean malas, no considero que valga la pena hacer una reseña de ellas, ya que de esta forma no mostraría películas que hagan captar la atención de los usuarios.

Pero en vista que esta película ha tenido una buena crítica en Rotten Tomatoes, pero que no ha tenido una buena audiencia, decidí verla debido a que en ese momento estaba buscando películas chinas, coreana o japoneses, entre ellas encontré esta llamada Incantation.

Aclaro que esta película no me gusto en lo absoluto, sin embargo, he tenido que puntuarla porque a pesar de todas las cosas que vi, que no me causaron algún cambio en mi estado de ánimo (esas que sentimos cuando vemos una buena película), vi algo que si hizo que me agradara un poco.

But in view that this movie has had a good review in Rotten Tomatoes, but it has not had a good audience, I decided to watch it because at that time I was looking for Chinese, Korean or Japanese movies, among them I found this one called Incantation.

I must clarify that I did not like this movie at all, however, I had to rate it because despite all the things I saw, which did not cause me any change in my mood (those that we feel when we see a good movie), I saw something that made me like it a little bit.

Primero comencemos con la parte positiva que si me agrado de esta película, el cual es la actuación de Hsuan-yen Tsai, quien interpreta su papel en esta película como Li Ronan, como protagonista principal, podemos notar que sus actuaciones son excelentes y trata de transmitirte ese suspenso que esta película nos presenta.

De hecho, esta película trata de ser lo más "terrorífica" posible, pero su historia no me convenció del todo y paso a ser de "terror" a suspenso, ya que nunca sabremos que es lo que sucederá y me mantuve viendo esta película hasta el final solo para ver si sucedía algo que me asustara, pero que nunca paso, todo es un suspenso y un misterio que nunca podremos descifrar o por lo menos ver que es lo que nos intenta demostrar esta película.

First let's start with the positive part that I liked about this movie, which is the performance of Hsuan-yen Tsai, who plays her role in this movie as Li Ronan, as the main protagonist, we can notice that her performances are excellent, and she tries to transmit you that suspense that this movie presents us.

In fact, this movie tries to be as "terrifying" as possible, but its story did not convince me at all and went from "terror" to suspense, since we will never know what will happen, and I kept watching this movie until the end just to see if something happened to scare me, but it never happened, everything is a suspense and a mystery that we can never decipher or at least see what this movie is trying to show us.

El desarrollo de la historia es extraña, primero nos demuestra la historia de una mujer que aparentemente tiene una hija a la que cuidar, pero que la tiene en observación por unos especialistas, lo extraño es que se encuentra en una especie de guardería donde su "papa" es su cuidador y su madre es quien trata de hacer que la niña se sienta lo más cómoda posible, a ciencia cierta no se sabe si la niña de verdad de la hija de uno o del otro, debido a que nos deja un misterio que debemos descifrar conforme la vayamos viendo.

Típicamente como película de suspenso, veremos a una especie de maldición donde un "demonio" intenta poseer o volver loca a Li Ronan, manifestándose en la niña un ser del más allá quien se comunica a través de la niña haciendo cosas que un niño anormal aria.

Menciona que ve algo o que sale una mano manchada de sangre, pero nada que nos demuestre ese "terror" que supuestamente nos trata de revelar, es más de lo que espere asustarme con cualquier escena de suspenso que de lo que pude disfrutar de esta, lo cual fue nada.

Typically, in a thriller, we will see a kind of curse where a "demon" tries to possess or drive Li Ronan crazy, manifesting in the girl a being from beyond who communicates through the girl doing things that an abnormal child would do.

She mentions that she sees something or that a bloodstained hand comes out, but nothing that shows us that "terror" that she is supposedly trying to reveal, it's more of what I expected to be scared with any suspenseful scene than what I could enjoy in this one, which was nothing.

Lo que más me desagrado de la película es que se saltan las escenas en los momentos que siempre pienso que se viene algo bueno, dejándonos a la expectativa, de hecho el suspenso que le pongo a esta película es mucho más difícil de explicar, ya que no sé cómo definirlo, es decir, me decepciono la película y no era lo que me esperaba, es la primera película coreana a la que consideró mala basándose de ellos.

Ahora bien, tampoco sabemos si la historia que nos presenta esta película sea del presente, pasado o futuro, debido a que siempre hay recortes donde la película trata de mostrarnos porque paso todo o en donde comenzó, pero en ninguna de ellas nos revela eso que nosotros buscamos de una película, y es una buena explicación en el transcurso de su historia.

What I dislike the most about the movie is that they skip scenes in the moments that I always think something good is coming, leaving us in expectation, in fact the suspense that I put in this movie is much more difficult to explain, since I don't know how to define it, I mean, I was disappointed with the movie, and it was not what I expected, it is the first Korean movie that I considered bad based on them.

Now, we don't know if the story that this movie presents us is from the present, past or future, because there are always cuts where the movie tries to show us why everything happened or where it started, but in none of them it reveals us what we are looking for in a movie, and that is a good explanation in the course of its story.

¿Videos dentro de una grabadora o cámara que esconden un secreto mayor?

Nunca lo sabremos, sí, hay escenas que son un poco interesantes, pero me desagradan por el simple hecho que cuando se avecina algo bueno, te cortan la imagen saltándote a otra donde quedas con esa sensación de molestia cuando eso sucede, en muchas ocasiones intente dejarla de ver por eso, pero quise mantenerme ahí solo para ver el final y ver en como termina todo... no es la gran cosa en realidad.

Estoy muy decepcionada de esta película, pero puede que sea porque no tenga la misma creencia que los chinos, coreanos o japoneses, debe ser el motivo por lo que no comprendí lo que esta película trataba de demostrarnos, por supuesto, como no comprendo su idioma no puedo leer lo que estan escritos en algunos papeles y no tengo esas creencias como para dejar algún efecto de asombro o miedo, ya que ha tenido buenas críticas en Rotten tomatoes, pero su audiencia fue muy baja.

Sin embargo, le di media estrella solamente por la actora, quien se esforzó para demostrar ese sentimiento de "miedo" aunque creo que quien tenía más miedo era ella que yo, así que su historia no me convenció.

Se encuentra disponible en Netflix si piensas que te podía gustar a pesar de la reseña que acabo de dar, a veces hace falta algo más que una crítica sobre una película como para impedir que comprobemos nosotros mismos si de verdad fue tan mala o buena, y eso es lo que nos hace ver películas cuando leemos he investigamos que tan buena o mala es.

We will never know, yes, there are scenes that are a bit interesting, but I dislike them for the simple fact that when something good is coming, they cut the image jumping you to another one where you are left with that feeling of annoyance when that happens, in many occasions I tried to stop watching it because of that, but I wanted to stay there just to see the end and see how it all ends... no big deal really.

I'm very disappointed in this movie, but maybe it's because I don't have the same belief as Chinese, Korean or Japanese, that must be the reason why I didn't understand what this movie was trying to show us, of course, as I don't understand their language I can't read what they are written in some papers and I don't have those beliefs as to leave any effect of amazement or fear, as it has had good reviews in Rotten tomatoes, but its audience was very low.

However, I gave it half a star only because of the actor, who tried her best to show that feeling of "fear" although I think the one who was more afraid was her than me, so her story didn't convince me.

It is available on Netflix if you think you might like it despite the review I just gave, sometimes it takes more than a review about a movie to keep us from checking for ourselves if it was really that bad or good, and that's what makes us watch movies when we read and research how good or bad it is.

Welcome dear internet travelers horror lovers and thank you very much for making a temporary stop in my post, as you know I am a fan of both horror cinema and Asian productions, so I am quite happy to come across this film that has the best of both worlds and is titled "Incantation" a film that as its name suggests presents a curse that will haunt all the characters of the film. Just get ready to pray what you know because this cursed adventure is about to begin.

Bienvenidos queridos viajeros del internet amantes del terror y muchas gracias por hacer una parada temporal en mi post, como sabrán soy fanático tanto del cine de terror como de las producciones asiáticas, por ello me alegro bastante toparme con este filme que posee lo mejor de ambos mundos y se titula “Incantation” una cinta que como su nombre indica presenta una maldición que perseguirá a todos los personajes del filme. Sin más que agregar prepárense para rezar lo que sepan pues esta aventura maldita está por comenzar.

Incantation fue estrenada este año, dirigida por Kevin Ko y producida por Activator Marketing Company, cuenta con una duración de 1 hora y 50 minutos. Es un filme de terror y suspenso, la historia se centra en 3 amigos que se dedican a desmentir mitos sobrenaturales, esto los lleva a visitar una secta en la cual se presume que existe un túnel maldito, en su infinita estupidez terminan quedando completamente impregnados de la maldición y la única sobreviviente deberá hacer todo lo posible para poder salvar a su hija de la desgracia.

The soundtrack is pleasant to have an instrumental that complements in a commensurate way the different scenes of both suspense and drama that the film has, being in general a good component that plays an important role.

The construction of the world is interesting since it gives a single perspective of the world, everything that happened or what is happening is presented according to what the characters know, this creates a halo around their world and everything that is related to it that fits quite well since it maintains that intrigue that is being revealed little by little.

La construcción de mundo es interesante puesto que se da una única perspectiva del mundo, todo lo que pasó o lo que está pasando es presentado según lo que los personajes sepan, esto crea un halo alrededor de su mundo y todo lo que se encuentra relacionado con él que le queda bastante bien ya que mantiene esa intriga que va siendo develada poco a poco.

The plot is what you can expect from a film of the genre, strange things begin to happen that are taking more and more force until it is impossible to ignore it. There are 2 elements that work very well which are fundamental for films of this nature that are suspense and subtlety, at first this is the main focus of fear until everything becomes much more intense and direct in general. In general, mysticism is well constructed, it makes the viewer interested in it and in discovering what exists behind the mystery to that is added the fact of having no less than excellent effects that make it even better.

La trama es lo que te puedas esperar de una cinta del género, comienzan a pasar cosas extrañas que van tomando cada vez más fuerza hasta que es imposible ignorarlo. Existen 2 elementos que trabajan muy bien los cuales son fundamentales para filmes de esta índole que son el suspenso y la sutileza, en un primer momento este es el foco principal del miedo hasta que todo se vuelve mucho más intenso y directo en general. En general, el misticismo está bien construido, logra que el espectador se interese por este y en descubrir lo que existe detrás del misterio a eso se le suma el hecho de tener unos efectos no menos que excelentes que la hacen aún mejor.

There is a single character who carries all the weight of the film, he is very well achieved because he has a level of paranoia and fear that can be felt both by the actions he performs and by his reactions to different events. The rest of the characters only serve as tools to be tortured by the entity or to advance the plot so there is not much to highlight about them.

Existe un único personaje el cual carga con todo el peso del filme, se encuentra muy bien logrado debido a que posee un nivel de paranoia y miedo que pueden palparse tanto por las acciones que realiza como por sus reacciones ante los diferentes acontecimientos. El resto de personajes solo fungen como herramientas para ser torturados por el ente o para hacer avanzar la trama por lo que no hay mucho que destacar sobre ellos.

Incantation is a decent horror film, it has very good moments of tension that put the viewer on the edge of the chair both for its interesting story and for the use of a camera angle that honestly causes a lot of anxiety. That is why it deserves 3.5 stars out of 7, one of those few current horror films that fulfill their mission to cause some intrigue and fear to the viewer with what it proposes.

Incantation es una película decente de terror, posee muy buenos momentos de tensión que ponen al borde de la silla al espectador tanto por su historia interesante como por el uso de un ángulo de cámara que sinceramente causa mucha ansiedad. Es por ello que merece 3.5 estrellas de 7, uno de esos pocos filmes de terror actuales que cumplen su misión de causar algo de intriga y temor al espectador con lo que plantea.

Don't you sometimes go on social media and everything is full of a movie or series? It seems like the story is chasing you to watch it, that's what happened to me with Incantation. My feed of various social media was full of friends and acquaintances who had seen it, some spoke well of it, others not so much. On twitter it appeared in trends, even in my Google news feed it started to appear that "the most terrifying movie had arrived to Netflix", even here in Hive I started to see several reviews and critiques about it, so it ended up winning my curiosity and last weekend I decided to watch it, I say weekend because we started watching it on Saturday and we finished it on Sunday, with that you can get an idea of how good the movie is.

A young woman named Li Ronan, a member of a group of self-styled "ghost hunters" is haunted by a terrifying curse after being involved in a ritual to which she was not invited. Now she must fight to keep her daughter away from the consequences of the curse.

For several decades now, Asian horror films have gained worldwide recognition with productions such as The Ring, The Grudge and my personal favorite: Shutter. Despite the fact that these productions are several years old, they are still present in the minds of many and have begun to form part of popular culture and they have also been "successfully" adapted by Hollywood, which has extended their influence beyond the East, but I put that in quotation marks because I actually think that the original versions are much better than the Western adaptations.

This same year I was able to see two films of this genre produced in Korea that both my husband and I found quite decent, that's why when we saw all the hype and comments surrounding "Incantation", an Asian horror film, we decided to give it a chance to scare us, but unfortunately we were disappointed, he much more than me I must say.

The film uses the resource of found footage, which for my taste is something that is already quite worn out, plus the only film of this style that I liked was the Spanish REC, the first, of course, because the others I think they were too much, because as happens a lot in this genre, they overexploited the story. With that, Incantation already had a lot to lose, but I was still hopeful, it couldn't be that bad, after all it was Asian, it was on the mouth of many and supposedly was inspired by a tragedy that happened in Taiwan.

The beginning was really promising, as we were presented with some pretty graphic deaths, something that I particularly love in horror movies and honestly, in any genre, I never say no to a good blood and guts bath, so I thought "well, it looks like it's going to be entertaining", but as the minutes went by quickly my idea changed and I was getting more and more disappointed with what I was watching.

The story takes place in two times: the "present" in which we see Li Ronan trying to fight the consequences of the curse and the events of her "past" as a paranormal investigator, I know this must seem interesting, but believe me it's not, the transitions are terribly handled, there are times when you don't know if it's the present or the past, although in that I give it the benefit of the doubt because it may also be because the movie was so boring that my husband and I found ourselves actively criticizing it and maybe we didn't pay enough attention, although that doesn't speak very well of the plot either.

The characters don't undergo changes over time, many, many times I had to check with my husband if they were in the present or when, but he was just as lost as I was and it was after certain details that we could conclude what time they were in, anyone would think that six years haunted by what happened would put a dent in Li Ronan's image, well, anyone but those in the production of Incantation.

Another tremendous blunder was the use of found footage style, as I mentioned before, I'm not a big fan of this kind of movies, but when it is also so badly used as in Incantation, it is truly a burden for the production. It was a total nonsense, there are shots that have no logic. Really, there were times when I just thought "why would someone shoot that for" or the classic "and what camera is shooting that". My husband even made fun of some scenes mentioning that they looked like they were from a poorly made survival horror game.

I remember one part where the protagonist was running through some pretty complicated and completely dark alleys, while the camera showed the night vision activated, but she suddenly decides to turn on the light so she can see, how was she running before if there was no light?, I understand that night vision can help, but running on the uneven terrain she was running on, without falling and being guided only by the camera, really?, I don't know if I consider myself a very clumsy person or what, but I don't think I would be able to do something like that and even less with the fear she was supposed to be suffering.

One of the most nonsensical things I could find in the movie were the supposed "ghost hunters", it is supposed that if you are in that area, even if you are new, you know what you should and should not do, well this was not the case, not even because one of them was part of the family that was carrying out the ritual that they so illogically interrupted. They enter a place they specifically should not enter, they break, throw and do things that no human being with a minimum of logic would do, it seems to me that it is an insult the stupid way in which these characters behaved, they abused too much the cliché of "being very risky investigators of the paranormal".

You'd think that if the movie was called "Incantation" they'd pay a lot of attention to making sense of the curse, but I think even that's too much to ask. The consequences of the "curse" varied from person to person without any pattern or logic, some went insane and died quickly, while others suffered quite a bit before finally dying, however, there was nothing to indicate why such a distinction was made, this was quite disappointing because the curse was supposed to be the focal point of the story and they definitely didn't know how to handle it. And well, the final reveal of the curse couldn't have been more predictable because it was impossible to make it more obvious, even my husband who fell asleep watching it figured out what was going on.

I think the only point that I could rescue is that there were moments in which an interesting tension was generated, those that keep you on the edge of your seat, those were the moments that I could enjoy the most of the film, unfortunately only in one something happened and it was a "jump scare", in the others the threat simply faded away until it disappeared. I am very fearful for this kind of curse movies and it is easy to scare me with it, so at the end of watching it I must admit that it did leave me a feeling of uneasiness, but that feeling lasted five minutes and then I went to sleep like a baby and that's as far as the impact went.

In the acting section I think it does not stand out, neither for better nor for worse, I think the performances were pretty regular, not to say bland, especially that of the protagonist, I think it failed to demonstrate the desperation of a mother, I do not know if it is something cultural, but her expressions were quite cold and lacking in emotion, not to mention that the actions of the central character seemed quite incomprehensible at many points in the story, I honestly thought that at some point they were going to say that she was possessed or something, because her actions seemed incomprehensible to me.

I must confess that the horror movies I like the least are about curses and possessions, I prefer monsters, killings and murderers, so I don't know if this is the reason why I found this movie so bad and boring, but it is definitely not one I recommend, I think the story is too basic and trite, maybe if they had proposed something different and innovative, my review would be different, but for me it was more of the same only with a good dose of inconsistencies.

A great parameter for me to know if I am judging well or badly a movie of this genre is my husband, since he also likes horror movies, but he, unlike me, does enjoy the theme of curses, but as I told you before he fell asleep because of how boring he found it, he did not find tension at any time and at the end he reproached me for having chosen such a bad movie.

The only thing I can rescue from this movie is the atmosphere of tension that reigned in some moments of the film, it was the only thing that made me forget, for a few moments, the disaster of history and incoherence that I was seeing.

Well, I must also accept that it has an excellent marketing, that "the scariest movie" is always going to catch the attention of those of us who want it to be true.

As I mentioned before, its inconsistencies were too many for me, from the stupidity of the "ghost hunters", to the mishandling of the found footage resource. It seems like they concentrated on making the characters make the worst decisions possible, I was waiting for the plot to take a "The cabin in the woods" type turn and justify some of the stupidity of the characters, but that's something that obviously didn't happen.

Although as I said before the story and acting were not outstanding, this is something that happens a lot in the horror genre, so much so that I almost don't care, as long as the other elements are well presented, but here that didn't happen because even the sound was quite deficient and being found footage you can imagine how the photography was.

Honestly, I do not understand what was the commotion that caused this film in social media, I do not understand how it can have such good reviews, being a rather poor delivery, with a story too trite, I do not know if they are criticisms of people who are not used to the genre or do not know other horror films, but calling it the "scariest of all time" seems to me a terrible disrespect to other productions and a complete deception.

If you want to satiate your curiosity and you are not so assiduous to the horror genre, see it, maybe it will get some scares out of you. But if you are fans of the genre, it's definitely a resounding no, I'd rather watch Hereditary a thousand times than watch this again.

If I had to rank this movie I think I'd give it a 4 out of 10 and I think I'm being generous.

¿No les pasa que a veces entran a redes sociales y todo está lleno de una película o serie? Parece que la historia te persigue para que la veas, así me pasó con Maleficio. Mi feed de varias redes sociales estaba lleno de amigos y conocidos que la habían visto, unos hablaban bien de ella, otros no tanto. En twitter me apareció en tendencias, en incluso en mi feed de noticias de Google me comenzó a aparecer que "la película más terrorífica había llegado a Netflix", incluso aquí en Hive comencé a ver varias críticas y reseñas sobre ella, por lo que terminó ganando mi curiosidad y el fin de semana pasado me dispuse a verla, les digo fin de semana porque la comenzamos a ver el sábado y la terminamos el domingo, con eso se pueden dar una idea de lo buena que es la película.

Una joven llamada Li Ronan, perteneciente a un grupo de autodenominados "caza-fantasmas" es perseguida por una maldición terrorífica luego de haberse involucrado en un ritual al que no fue invitada. Ahora debe luchar para mantener a su hija alejada de las consecuencias de dicha maldición.

Desde hace varias décadas el cine de terror asiático ha ganado gran reconocimiento a nivel mundial con producciones como The Ring, The Grudge y mi favorita personal: Shutter. A pesar de que estas producciones tienen ya varios años de haberse estrenado, siguen presentes en la mente de muchos y han comenzado a formar parte de la cultura popular, además de que han sido adaptadas "satisfactoriamente" por Hollywood, lo que ha extendido su influencia más allá de oriente, pero lo pongo entre comillas porque en realidad me parece que las versiones originales son mucho mejores que las adaptaciones occidentales.

Este mismo año pude ver dos películas de este género producidas en Corea que tanto a mi esposo como a mí nos parecieron bastante decentes, es por eso que al ver toda la propaganda y comentarios que rodeaban a "Maleficio", una película de terror asiática, decidimos brindarle la oportunidad de asustarnos, pero lamentablemente quedamos decepcionados, él mucho más que yo.

La película utiliza el recurso de metraje encontrado, que para mi gusto es algo que ya está bastante gastado, además de que la única película de este estilo que me ha gustado ha sido la española REC, la primera, por supuesto, porque las demás creo que estuvieron de sobra, porque como sucede mucho en este género, sobreexplotaron la historia. Con eso, Maleficio ya llevaba las de perder, pero yo seguía esperanzada, no podía ser tan mala, después de todo era asiática, estaba en boca de muchos y supuestamente estaba inspirada en una tragedia que sucedió en Taiwán.

El principio fue realmente prometedor, ya que nos presentaron unas muertes bastante gráficas, cosa que a mí particularmente me encanta en películas de terror y honestamente, en cualquier género, nunca le digo que no a un buen baño de sangre y vísceras, así que pensé "bueno, parece que sí va a estar entretenida", pero a medida que fueron pasando los minutos rápidamente mi idea cambió y fui decepcionándome cada vez más de lo que estaba viendo.

La historia trascurre en dos tiempos: el "presente" en el que vemos a Li Ronan intentar combatir las consecuencias de la maldición y los eventos de su "pasado" como investigadora de lo paranormal, sé que esto debe parecer interesante, pero créanme que no lo es, las transiciones están terriblemente manejadas, hay veces que no se sabe si es el presente o el pasado, ya que la ambientación es prácticamente la misma, aunque en eso les doy el beneficio de la duda porque puede deberse también a que la película estaba tan aburrida que mi esposo y yo nos encontrábamos criticándola activamente y quizás no prestamos suficiente atención, aunque eso tampoco habla muy bien de la trama.

Los personajes no sufren cambios a través del tiempo, muchas, pero muchas veces tuve que consultar con mi esposo si estaban en el presente o cuándo, pero él se encontraba igual de perdido que yo y era después de ciertos detalles que podíamos concluir en qué tiempo estaban, cualquiera pensaría que seis años atormentada por lo que pasó harían mella en la imagen de Li Ronan, cualquiera menos los de la producción de Maleficio.

Otro desatino tremendo fue usar el estilo metraje encontrado, como les comenté anteriormente, no soy muy fan de este tipo de películas, pero cuando además está tan mal empleado como en Maleficio es verdaderamente un lastre para la producción. Era un sinsentido total, hay tomas que no tienen lógica. De verdad, había momentos en los que solamente pensaba "por qué o para qué alguien grabaría eso" o el clásico "y qué cámara está grabando eso". Mi esposo incluso se burló de algunas escenas mencionando que parecían de un juego de survival horror mal hecho.

Recuerdo una parte en la que la protagonista estaba corriendo por unos callejones bastante complicados y completamente oscuros, mientras que en la cámara se veía la visión nocturna activada, pero de repente decide prender la luz para poder ver, ¿Cómo estaba corriendo antes si no había ninguna luz?, yo entiendo que la visión nocturna puede ayudar, pero correr por el terreno desigual en el que ella estaba corriendo, sin caerse y guiándose solo con la cámara, ¿En serio?, no sé si es que yo me considero una persona muy torpe o qué, pero yo no creo ser capaz de hacer algo así y menos con el miedo que se supone que estaba sufriendo.

Una de las cosas más sinsentido que pude encontrar en la película fueron los supuestos "cazafantasmas", se supone que si estás en ese medio, aunque seas nuevo, sabes qué debes y qué no debes hacer, pues este no fue el caso, ni siquiera porque uno de ellos formaba parte de la familia que llevaba a cabo el ritual que tan ilógicamente interrumpieron. Entran en un lugar al que específicamente no deben entrar, rompen, tiran y hacen cosas que ningún ser humano con un mínimo de lógica haría, me parece que es un insulto la forma tan estúpida en la que se comportaron estos personajes, abusaron demasiado del cliché de "ser investigadores muy arriesgados de lo paranormal".

Cualquiera pensaría que si la película se llama "Maleficio" le pondrían mucha atención a que la maldición tuviera sentido, pero creo que incluso eso es mucho pedir. Las consecuencias del "Maleficio" variaban de persona a persona sin ningún patrón ni lógica, unos enloquecían y morían rápidamente, mientras que otros sufrían bastante antes de finalmente morir, sin embargo, no había nada que indicara el porqué de dicha distinción, esto fue bastante decepcionante porque se supone que la maldición era el punto central de la historia y definitivamente no supieron cómo manejarlo. Y bueno, la revelación final de la maldición no pudo ser más predecible porque era imposible hacerla más evidente, incluso mi esposo que se quedó dormido viéndola se dio cuenta de lo que estaba pasando.

Creo que el único punto que yo podría rescatar es que sí hubo momentos en los cuales se generó una tensión interesante, de esas que te mantienen al borde del asiento, fueron los momentos que más pude disfrutar de la película, lamentablemente solo en uno pasó algo y fue un "jump scare", en los demás sencillamente la amenaza se fue desvaneciendo hasta desaparecer. Yo soy muy miedosa para este tipo de películas de maldiciones y a mí es fácil asustarme con ello, por eso al finalizar de verla debo que reconocer que sí me dejó una sensación de intranquilidad, pero esa sensación me duró cinco minutos y después me fui a dormir como un bebé y hasta ahí llegó el impacto.

En el apartado actoral creo que no destaca, ni para bien ni para mal, me parece que las actuaciones fueron bastante regulares, por no decir sosas, sobre todo la de la protagonista, creo que falló en demostrar la desesperación de una madre, no sé si es algo cultural, pero sus expresiones fueron bastante frías y faltas de emoción, eso sin contar que de por sí las acciones del personaje central me parecieron bastante incomprensibles en muchos puntos de la historia, honestamente pensé que en algún momento iban a decir que estaba poseída o algo, porque sus acciones me parecieron incomprensibles.

Debo confesar que a mí las películas de terror que menos me gustan son de maldiciones y posesiones, yo me decanto por monstruos, matanzas y asesinos, así que no sé si esta es la razón por la cual esta película me pareció tan mala y aburrida, pero definitivamente no es una que recomiende, pienso que la historia es demasiado básica y trillada, quizás si hubieran propuesto algo diferente e innovador, mi crítica sería diferente, pero para mí fue más de lo mismo solamente que con una buena dosis de incoherencias.

Un gran parámetro para mí al momento de saber si estoy juzgando bien o mal una película de este género es mi esposo, ya que a él también le gusta mucho el cine de terror, pero él, a diferencia de mí, sí disfruta de la temática de maldiciones, pero como ya les comenté anteriormente se quedó dormido de lo aburrida que le pareció, él si no encontró tensión en ningún momento y al final me recriminó el haber elegido una película tan mala.

Lo único que puedo rescatar de esta película es la atmosfera de tensión que reinó en algunos momentos de la película, fue lo único que hizo que me olvidara, por unos instantes, del desastre de historia e incoherencias que estaba viendo.

Bueno, también debo aceptar que tiene un excelente marketing, eso de "la película más terrorífica" siempre nos va a llamar la atención a los que deseamos que sea cierto.

Como lo mencioné anteriormente, sus incoherencias fueron demasiadas para mí, desde la estupidez de los "cazafantasmas", hasta el mal manejo del recurso de metraje encontrado. Parece que se concentraron en hacer que los personajes tomaran las peores decisiones posibles, estaba esperando que la trama diera un giro tipo "The cabin in the woods" y que justificaran algo de la estupidez de los personajes, pero eso es algo que obviamente no sucedió.

Si bien como dije anteriormente la historia y la actuación no fueron sobresalientes, esto es algo que pasa mucho en el género de terror, tanto que ya casi no me importa, mientras los demás elementos sí estén bien trabajados, pero aquí eso no sucedió porque hasta en el apartado de sonido fue bastante deficiente y al ser metraje encontrado se podrán imaginar cómo fue la fotografía.

Honestamente, no entiendo cuál fue el revuelo que causó esta película en redes sociales, no entiendo cómo puede tener tan buenas críticas, siendo una entrega bastante deficiente, con una historia por demás trillada, yo no sé si son críticas de personas que no están acostumbradas al género o que no conocen otras películas de terror, pero llamarla la "más terrorífica de todos los tiempos" me parece una terrible falta de respeto a otras producciones y un completo engaño.

Si quieren saciar su curiosidad y no son tan asiduos al género de terror, véanla, quizás les saque algunos sustos. Pero si son fans del género, definitivamente es un no rotundo, prefiero ver Hereditary mil veces a volver a ver esto.

Si tuviera que ranquear esta película creo que le pondría un 4 de 10 y creo que estoy siendo generosa.

What'd I think?

Felt like a super long movie. A lot of Asian horror is atmospheric which is great but I'm a fan of a good jump-scare or three which this movie didn't really have. I feel like movies with this much buildup should have more umph at the end but other than that the story and attacking was okay.

INCANTATION is all video-recordings from the main character Li Ronan who is reuniting with her daughter, Dodo, after six years of being apart. Before Dodo was born, Ronan and her friends, Dom and Yuan, went to a monastery in the country to investigate a supposedly haunted tunnel. Something awful happens that we don't learn about until later and it results in Ronan ending up in a mental institution which is why she was separated from her baby after giving birth. Six years later, she has reformed her life and is no undergoing a trial period of taking Dodo home to live with her to prove that she is a fit mother -- but she warns the camera that she is doing this out of her uncontrollable motherly love and that she is worried about the curse that has plagued her these last six years which also killed her parents.

I have to point out the acting chops of this tiny little girl who plays Ronan's daughter Dodo. She really does a great job playing a shy hesitant child which makes sense since she has never met this woman even though she's her mother. There's this really touching scene after the first couple of scares in the movie where Ronan tells Dodo to think about her three most favorite things in the world when she's scared and to repeat them out loud and Dodo says are-- Pineapple, Bunny, and Woof Woof (her name for her pet dog stuffed animal).

Ronan and the head of the orphanage Ming Source

Ming is another really important character in the film because he's the head of the orphanage where Ronan's daughter has been raised the last six years. I found it a bit remarkable that the institution wouldn't take a little more precaution when it came to reuniting one of their long-time children with a biological mother who had a history of mental illness, and not just any minor case but one that required her institutionalization. But Ming points out that he always wanted to be a father and that taking care of the children at his orphanage required forging a very close bond with them and that he cannot imagine what it would be like to separated from your own child so he takes a risk with Ronan.

To sum up the horror factor of INCANTATION, I'd unfortunately have to say that it relies on a lot of gross scenes, and ones that deal with children covered in sores and other oozy skin maladies. There were a few jump scares but they weren't all that effective and for maybe half of the movie I was either confused or really grossed out.

While it wasn't an awful movie, I expect more from Asian horror movies than I do Western ones and this was a slow-burner that lacked any spectacular finish at the end and never ramped up the danger enough.
