Welcome back to Insomniac Trailer Reactions! Today’s selection seem to fall on the thriller/horror/chiller side of things and I don’t know to think about all that. One think that jumps out at me though was the fact that I didn’t recognize any of the performers. Does that mean I’m getting old? Out of touch? Who can say?
Watcher
The intriguing? This looks like it could be an interesting thriller. It’s also not set in the United States, which is rare, to me at least. Add to that a cast of folks I don’t recognize and it could be a refreshing change of pace. The not so intriguing? Not really a fan of this genre.
Siberian Sniper
Seriously bad timing on this one, a war movie about a Soviet sniper fighting fascists in World War II. The dialogue in the trailer felt somewhat propaganda-ish, though the sniper himself said nothing.
Dashcam
I’m not a fan of horror films but I am intrigued by the idea of found footage films. There is potential in them that I haven’t seen fulfilled yet (in fairness they tend to be of the horror variety so I don’t see them).
Once more unto the breach, dear friends. I know, another Internet in Insomniac Trailer Reactions, but I am procrastinating on getting my work done this evening and this seemed like the obvious way to do it. I think I need to get back into proper movie marathon reviews the way I used you. I don’t know though. I will have to think on it a little bit and see where that goes.
Lightyear
No.
Last Seen Alive
This one is also a no. Sorry.
Good Luck to You, Leo Grande
This looks refreshingly good. It’s not something I’ve seen before which is… refreshing. Going to have to hope it doesn’t suck but it looks like something I might enjoy seeing. That is kind of unexpected.
Monstrous
I can’t tell if this is a horror flick or a straight on thriller. I am intrigued, it’s always nice to see Christina Ricci, but not sure I will seek it out as I’m not great with the horror genre.
Guess I had no choice but to post an Insomniac Trailer Reactions today. I have to say, to begin, that I am, generally speaking, so over super hero movies with one real exception: ones directed by Taiki Waititi.
Thor: Love and Thunder
This looks good. ‘Nuff said. I love Waititi’s style. I don’t find the MCU very rewatchable but Thor: Ragnorak, and to a lesser extent, the other Thor flicks, as messy as they are, because of the casts mostly. I don’t know the Marvel mythology so I have no idea what is going on so this one should be fun.
Ecco
This just seems very familiar even if I didn’t recognize anyone in the trailer. I don’t know, it is a story we have seen before and there was a lot of weird lighting.
The Peacemakers
I am cautiously intrigued by this. I don’t know what it is but it says it is from New Zealand and I am curious to see a sci fi from somewhere other than the US. There is no real give away of the plot either, so that’s something. And colourful.
I had fun last time and since it is the long weekend, for a holiday I don’t celebrate, I thought I’d do another round of Trailer Reactions. Watch them or don’t, it’s all good. Have a great weekend/holiday, regardless.
Black Site
I have not seen these performers in a while. Well, that’s not true, Jai Courtney had a small role in **The Suicide Squad**. Here, he is with Michelle Monaghan, who I am happy to see you again, and reunited with his **Terminator: Genysis** costar, whose name is escaping me at the moment. Apart from that, this looks kind of, “same old, same old.” Nothing jumps out at me that invites me towant to see this. That is kind of sad. I will give it credit for being a setting I haven’t really seen a lot and bringing a role out for Monaghan.
Crimes of the Future
Okay. Cronenberg is going to Cronenberg. I haven’t been much of a Viggo Mortensen fan since he lashed out at Black critics and filmgoers who didn’t like the whitewashing Greenbook. Visually, this looks wild. No idea what is going on.
The Northman
Kind of looks like a Viking version of Conan the Barbarian. Visually very stunning though. I don’t know what to make of it. I hope it’s not another Beowulf retelling.
Eraser: Reborn
Eraser was kind of a cheesy, last-gasp, 1980s-early 90s actioner, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. A sequel/reboot how many years later with people I don’t recognize doesn’t fill me with confidence. Having said that, this looks promising, even if it also looks like it might be taking itself too seriously. I will likely check it out, probably on streaming.
It has been quite a long time since I’ve watched a bunch of trailers and reacted to them, but since I had a bad day at work, now seems like a good time to try and distract myself from it all. So, for your pleasure, the first Insomniac Trailer Reactions of the Hive era.
OK… It is nice to see Dustin Hoffman again and I don’t, generally, have a problem with the movie that appears to be, blatantly, designed to tug at heartstrings, etc., etc.. This, however, does not feel right somehow.
Senior Year
Uhhh… hmmm… huh.
Top Gun: Maverick
The original Top Gun came out in 1985. I saw it on an IMAX screen, one of the first such screens, in Toronto at about age 10 or 11. Revisiting the film, the nostalgia of that first screening does not hold up. The action sequences are cool but the rest of the film does not work for me. This film, coming out 37 years later, seems to be the same tropes in play is that first. In this trailer, the action sequences look pretty cool but I do not think that I will enjoy the rest.
›Insomniac Trailer Reactions: Super Bowl Trailers@rvgenaille2338d
I don’t much care for football. As such, I didn’t have to watch the Super Bowl. I can honestly say I am not sure if I saw all the trailers online but here is a brief selection of some that came across my YouTube feed.
Minions: The Rise of Gru
Just No.
No Time to Die
This one is actually kind of intriguing. I don’t like the way the current iteration has been going but this brief clip gives away nothing but also find a way to draw the viewer in.
Black Widow
I am kind of done with superhero movies. I will probably see it anyway.
Fast & Furious 9
Wait? What?
Mulan (2020)
This one looks better than the last trailer I thought for this film. I have been avoiding the live action remake that Disney has been making, I have not like the ones I’ve seen and not been interested in the rest.
