When I heard that a new version of Interview with the Vampire would be brought to life I immediately wanted more information, but when I found out that it would be broadcast on a channel I don't subscribe to I had to wait, so when it was uploaded to Prime Video I immediately started watching the first season, which has 7 episodes.

As you may already know this is a serialized version of the book of the same name by Anne Rice, of which they had made a movie in 1994 starring at that time Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Christian Slater, Antonio Banderas, Kirsten Dunst and Stephen Rea, now they decided to bring back this story, but in a serialized version.

    image.png

    Source

The truth is that I thought it would be the same version, but with different actors, but to my surprise it is about, or revolves around the decision of Louis de Pointe du Lac, to meet again with journalist Daniel Molloy, to give a new interview changing part of his previous version.

Basically, we can say that the central story is the same as Louis is seduced by Lestat, how Claudia comes into their lives and how his decision to become a vampire changes everything.

    image.png

    Source

Now, there are details, let's say, that vary notably in comparison with the 1994 film, such as the beginning of the story, since in one we meet, in the film, a young white plantation owner, but here by giving the role to a young Afro-descendant, Jacob Anderson, they paint the story differently or are forced to do so.

This is where another detail of the series comes in, which is something that has been noticed in all series and movies for years, but each time, from my point of view, more forced and the truth is that many times the resent productions become unpleasant and it is what many call forced inclusion and it is not that it is wrong to include people of color, Latinos, Indians, of different sexual preference or more, the issue is that they put so much into one thing that it makes it look or feel like something desperate, imposed or what do I know, as I see it, they seem to want more acceptance, and excuse me if I hurt sensitivities, but it is my humble opinion.

    image.png

    Source

On the other hand, the introduction of characters that are not those of the same characteristics of the book, which I have not read, but I know it is so, forces them to make sense of them and in this series they did it at least as far as Louis, Claudia and Armand, on the other hand, the series keeps you there, tense glued of the screen, although sometimes it becomes a little slow, but it is because they are explaining you so that it is understood.

As usual Lestat de Lioncourt, is a complex character that you can both love and hate, the actor Sam Reid gave him a life and an air of elegance, irony, evil, violence, cynicism and manipulation impressive, for his part and as usual Louis is a sensitive being who lives the consequences of what he has decided to be, which in turn has caused him to lose other things, which apparently did not weigh well.

Obviously this series talks about homosexuality at a time when it was not at all accepted, nor well seen and is raised in a rather crude and let's say graphic way, so I think it is not a series suitable to watch with children, I think there is that sex education is the subject of both school education, but especially of parents at home, and television and the media in general are taking the baton in this, but that's a topic for another community and publication.

In general the critics have given everything to the series, but they have managed to renew it for a second season, it is not what I really expected, but there are commendable things like some performances, the costumes, now I do not know yet what to say if it is good or bad, because I think there are divided opinions and I am in the middle, but I want to see the second season of which so far I have been able to enjoy the trailer, although already being broadcast on AMC + and which lets us know that there was a change in the cast.

Hello colleagues and good morning to all lovers of fiction genre cinema, in today's space we will talk about a movie that I really liked when I was a teenager and believed in vampire stories and all that.🕸️ Among the many movies that I saw related With the theme, one of the best was Interview with the Vampire starring Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise as well as featuring stellar performances such as Antonio Banderas and Christian Slater.

    fuente/www.ecured.cu

The film was based on the novel of the same name by Anna Rice, an American writer who dedicated her works to magic, fantasy and horror. The original saga of the literary delivery has a total of 7 unpublished books where in each of them the life of a vampire is told through a peculiar and dark language and how he supposedly manages to insert himself into society without being discovered. and without causing great havoc, although all of us who have ever read or studied the subject know that it is difficult for these very malevolent beings.

[Now let's go with the Synopsis:]

    fuente/www.20minutos.es

The film begins with the story of the birth of the vampire Louis who is played by Brad Pitt, Louis was a young man from society who had the defects and virtues like everyone else today but on a night out after having a few drinks he is attacked by Lestnat, another vampire with more experience and who was prowling nearby in search of a new apprentice. Lestnat who was embodied in Tom Cruise, if the one who made Mission Impossible was showing Louise what it was like to live as a vampire and it was up to her to follow him or go on her own. Everything became more complex little by little and it was not the entanglements that both of them got into until they ended up being what they are.

    [Choice and criticism:]

Actually, being a lover of vampire stories, I didn't see any flaws in the film in question and although it was a somewhat ambiguous project due to the time in which the events were told, it could be enjoyed in the same way without any difficulty.

    fuente/www.elmundo.es

When I discovered that Tom Cruise was part of the leading cast, I was shocked because from a fearless superhero to a ruthless villain, there is a lot of space between both things, but that did not overshadow the story, on the contrary, which made it more exciting to see how Tom transformed to reincarnate another even more complex character.

I didn't really like Brad Pitt's character very much even though he was the protagonist like Tom since he showed little involvement in the project and his script was not one of the best. But really by working as a team both managed to impact viewers with their individual projects in such a way that the film was another of the classics of North American science fiction of the last century.

I didn't pay much attention to its soundtrack because it was almost all classical music and computer mixing, but despite everything it gave the film the dark and diabolical touch that characterized it and immortalized it for eternity.

    [final comments]

Anyway, if you are lovers of the science fiction genre and vampire stories in particular, this is another installment that will make you look for more information and read a little about it, but apart from this it will keep your hair on end from its beginning to its end.

  3. CineTV Contest: Tom Cruise in Interview with the Vampire@irenenavarroart1058d

Interview with the Vampire is an excellent novel written by Anne Rice belonging to the Vampire Chronicles, it revolutionized vampire stories, so its film adaptation was just as good as she wrote the script, in this film the character that stands out the most is Lestat played by Tom Cruise, this actor knew perfectly how to give life to a character as complex as the vampire Lestat because this character is narcissistic, he has a cynical sense of humor, he is elegant, arrogant but at the same time he is funny, he has a very attractiveness that contrasts with his insatiable thirst for blood, at times Lestat seems to have genuine and human emotions, such as the ability to feel love for Louis whom he transforms into a vampire after finding him in a depressed state due to the death of his wife and son, Although this action could be seen as Lestat's selfish whim to have a partner, he makes it look like a gift or new opportunity that he gives Louis by taking him away from human suffering.

    image.png

    Source

This character does not have a simple psyche, it is so complex that even the viewer generates feelings of empathy and revulsion for the same character, I must admit that Tom Cruise gave a wonderful performance capable of standing out even when the film is narrated from the point of view of Louis who was played by Brad Pitt, having such a good actor as a co-star, they both did an excellent job, but the character of Louis was more emotionally sensitive, he still had a lot of human suffering, he was initially shown as a weak character from feelings, which makes Lestat the bad boy in the story, but consequently Lestat's character becomes the most attractive and demanding in terms of acting.

    image.png

    Source

This film was so important that it became a classic film for lovers of the genre, Tom Cruise's participation was excellent, it was a total success that they chose Tom Cruise for the role of Lestat, if for example Tom Cruise had played Louis, I am sure it would not have been a good choice, since Cruise retains that charisma and genius to interpret characters full of vitality, a Vampire is a non-living character but Lestat proved to be the most alive of all, fully enjoying the life he had , Tom Cruise knew how to capture the essence of the character and his facial expressions when saying phrases full of sarcasm, I always consider that the most malevolent characters are the most difficult to interpret and Tom Cruise did it with the characteristic elegance of a Vampire written by Anne Rice.

  4. Interview with the Vampire Review@claudio832447d

  5. Interview with the Vampire (film): it's not that great@gooddream2884d

I recently reviewed a Korean vampire movie called "Thirst" and I figured i would go to the other side of the pond and look at a big vampire film from Hollywood. It's ok. I invite the criticism that is likely headed my way by me having this opinion but i honestly believe that "Interview" has not aged well and in my opinion is an relatively awful movie.

    b5-intvamp.jpg

I was a massive fan of Anne Rice novels back in the 90's and was even more thrilled to find out that one of the best ones was being brought to the silver screen circa 1994. I was even more elated when i found out that Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Christian Slater, and Antonio Banderas were in the cast. However it was a massive letdown for me. Go ahead, tell me I am wrong.

Apparently, even Brad Pitt was disappointed in the script once he found out that Anne Rice (the author of the novels) had decided to write the screenplay herself and kind of made his character, Louis, a bit of a bitch boy.

    994itv_tom_cruise_035.jpg

The movie is entertaining i guess, but this is based almost exclusively on its massive budget of 60 million dollars. I know that doesn't mean much by today's terms where films routinely get budgets exceeding 200 million but trust me, in 1993, this was a really massive amount of money to spend on an untested market.

The film did make the money back and then a lot more (grossing 240 million globally) but for people like me anyway, that appreciate good movies, it fell flat. I had read all the books when it came out and Pitt's portrayal of Louis was well, weak. Louis was displayed as a weakling throughout the film, and only in certain moments did he show his strength in situations that were far too absurd and convenient such as when he slaughters all the vampires in the French theater.

I think the only saving grace for this movie was (and I can't believe i am saying this) Tom Cruise's performance as Lestat. Cruise was an unlikely choice for this role (in my mind) but he nailed it for the most part. The only time that i feel as though he showed weakness (which if you are familiar with the books is not something that Lestat does often) was when he is thrust into the modern world and doesn't understand what electric lights are.

    cap0141.jpg

For the most part, this movie was a precursor to what would become two decades of increasingly ridiculous vampire films and that being the case, I suppose I am happy that it came first.

The movie did quite well at the box office but this is perhaps an early example of what I feel is wrong with Hollywood. They got an all star cast and pushed together a script and made a kind of homo-erotic movie about a subject matter that i guess the world was aching for at the time.

While he got a lot of flack from the press for it, I felt as though Tom Cruise might have actually been one of the only performers in the movie that really deserved praise. He does a really good job as Lestat and if you are not familiar with the novels just consider yourself fortunate that the other books were not also made into massive films.

    Lestat_When_He_Returns.png

It would have been embarrassing and almost certainly there is no way that Cruise would have accepted the role regardless of the amount of money he was offered (the story becomes completely absurd.)

The movie ended up winning some minor awards for art direction but not a single person in the cast was nominated for anything acting oriented, and this is something I can completely identify with. There are some inklings of information out there about the cast, including Pitt, complaining that the script was "cheesy." I agree with this notion.

Aside from a few moments in the movie, the direction of the film is extremely predictable and boring. Its success has everything to do with the star-power of the cast and really nothing to do with their performance or the story they are displaying.

    6 / 10

2 points extra were awarded because Cruise is so good in this otherwise boring and monotone film
