  1. Irreversible, also for the spectator // Irreversível, também para o expectador@thomashnblum1225d

Irreversible was a kind of invitation I used to extend to those who wanted to venture into cinema when I was younger, a fearless invitation: "Shall we go see Irreversible? I consider it a lack of tact today, really. Not only because it is a very heavy film, but because it is rarely what a "normal" person looks for in the cinema, for all the rest (that's us, lovers of this art), here is my review of this, which has often been regarded as one of the most bitter and heavy films of "popular" cinema (I mean, of accessible cinema), directed by the controversial Gaspar Noé, an Argentine-French director known for his provocative and daring works always containing controversial themes, such as violence, sexuality and death, and with a unique and experimental visual aesthetic that is hypnotic and delirious.

    Source

Noé was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1963, and moved to France in the 1980s to study filmmaking. His first film, "Carne" (1991), was a short film that caused controversy due to its explicit sexual content. However, it was his second film, "Seul Contre Tous" (1998), that put him on the map of French cinema. The film was a bleak portrait of an unemployed butcher in an existential crisis, and it won the CICAE award at the Cannes Film Festival that year. This one I saw right after Irreversible, because I was in love with Noah's unique yellowish, hypnotic aesthetic, that sense of distress of a camera almost playing the role of the viewer's eyes and wandering through environments, witnessing atrocities. "Irreversible" came in 2002. The film, with its non-linear narrative and scenes of explicit violence, shocked many viewers and divided the critics. However, it was also praised for its innovative cinematographic technique and the acting of its cast. Noah continued to provoke and challenge audiences with his subsequent films, including "Enter the Void" (2009), a psychedelic film that explores the afterlife, and "Love" (2015), a 3D erotic drama. His films are often compared to the works of other transgressive directors, such as Lars von Trier and Harmony Korine (not coincidentally two of my favorite directors).

But back to Irreversible. This is a film that defies audience expectations with its non-linear narrative in a visceral daring. The story, told backwards, begins with Marcus and Pierre's desperate quest for revenge after the brutal assault suffered by Alex, Marcus' girlfriend and Pierre's ex-girlfriend. This construction of the film is one of its strengths, with each scene carefully planned to fit seamlessly into the non-linear narrative. The camera work is impressive, with intense close-ups that add a sense of realism to the story. The very long takes give a fine impression that there are no cuts and that much has been worked out in perfect synchronization. The opening scene of Irrversible in the nightclub, which looks like a kind of delirious underworld with fuzzy lights, people scattered around, sadomasochism, controlled chaos, and finally a very violent fight between two individuals, brings one of the most brutal scenes of the film already in the first minutes. I prefer not to give spoilers, but I can only say that the graphic quality of the violence is impeccable. The soundtrack, which includes tracks by legendary electronic musician Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk, is also a major driving force of the film.

However, "Irréversible" is not an easy film to watch. The graphic and violent rape of Alex is particularly hard to stomach. The main scene of the film can cause horrible discomfort especially in women, Bellucci acted with astronomical precision and perfection and so does the actor/ rapist, the fact that Noah insists on these very long cameras that gaze and walk around the environment until they find a target are intoxicating and convulsive. In terms of cinematic analysis, "Irréversible" is an example of how non-linear narrative can be used to build a story that defies the audience's expectations. Noah also uses visual and sound techniques to create an intense and immersive atmosphere. The film is an example of how provocative and challenging art can be, and how cinema can be a powerful form of expression.

The analysis that is going to be made today has to do with the film Irreversible, made by Gaspar Noé in 2002, a film very well worked from the direction of actors, in this case we can see that the protagonism is taken by the three actors of the film named Alex, Marcus and Pierre. These three actors have a great trajectory in European films, taking into account that they come from that continent where the development in the acting field is very advanced, so these actors can achieve several technical denominations.

The genre of this film is Drama, this can be understood from the beginning in the conversation of both gentlemen together in an apartment, however, there is a technical element that contributes much to the acting development of this film, this would be the camera and its constant spiral movement, this effect contributed much to the beginning of the film where the characters Marcus and Pierre are looking for the rapist of Alex, Marcus' partner and Pierre's ex-partner. As we know the story is told from the end to the beginning, so it is confusing to discover what is going on, but we know that something is happening because of Marcus' tireless search and Pierre's warnings.

In the background, some time ago I was able to see the "Hate" a 1995 film made by Mathieu Kassovitz, where he also worked with the actor Vincent Cassel, the same who played Marcus in Irreversible, in Hate Vincent played the character of Vincz, this was a rebellious boy who walked the streets of France with two friends, demonstrating hatred for society through acts of vandalism, a character of a temperament very similar to Marcus only that the revenge of this generated more muscular energy, you could say he was more blinded by hatred. Clearly, the actor perfectly fulfills the acting register that the director of actors requested.

One of the characters that most caught my attention in the different situations that were presented was Pierre, who from the beginning of the film brings with him a strong situation, that his brother Marcus is the partner of his ex-partner and the three of them had to share at the party. Pierre moves through an internal situation, in the scenes of the subway, the one who leads the conversation is him, trying to understand why his ex-partner did not have pleasure with him, later at the party, he tries to tell his brother to be aware of his current partner and at the end of the party he confesses to Alex that he is there for her. Once the search for the rapist begins, Pierre tries to control Marcus all the way, he is the one who keeps everything from turning into a tragedy, later inside the Rectum club he tries to take care of his brother; however, when Marcus gets the rapist and is attacked by him to the point of breaking his arm, Pierre transforms and attacks him to the point of killing him.

Pierre clearly loved Alex very much, and always showed a love for her beyond the sexual, the force with which he attacks the rapist shows us an internal force of pure love and an external one in the face of what happened in the tunnel.

  3. IRREVERSIBLE: Una película que me traumó - IRREVERSIBLE: A movie that traumatized me@lunaticanto1357d

Okkk let's start with this little review of one of the movies that traumatized me the most hahaha, first of all I would like to mention that this is not the kind of stories I enjoy, although I think it is a work of art in terms of some details that I will tell you later. If you are a sensitive person, this movie is not for you.

    irreversible-poster.png

If you follow or know this director I know that when I mention that this film traumatized me, I am referring without a doubt to IRREVERSIBLE, a magnificent film that you will not want to see again or at least not for several years.

I will try not to make you so many spoilers, but I will mention some of the strongest scenes, so you will be psychologically prepared in case you want to see it and not have it happen to you like it did to me that it caught me by surprise hahaha. One afternoon in 2016, I organized with some friends to get together to prepare something delicious to eat and enjoy a good movie at the house of one of them. The movie was chosen by the owner of the house and it is worth mentioning that she had already seen it. She kept transmitting us her excitement for this movie so we all got excited with her, waiting for her to surprise us with a great movie. We were about 7 people and we set up a dark room which was quite small, but it had a giant TV, we placed some mattresses and we got ready to enjoy what we thought would be a nice moment. At the beginning it was a little confusing, we did not understand well what was happening because it started with a lot of action, as if it were the climax of the film, at that moment the girl who chose it told us one of the reasons why I think it is a piece of art, this film is recorded in reverse, ie, begins with the end and ends with what should be the beginning, but this you discover as the events unfold.

    499726.jpg-r_1920_1080-f_jpg-q_x-xxyxx.jpg

The idea that the director wanted to convey with this film is that nothing in this life has no way back, every step we take has repercussions in our future and once this happens we can not change it, and this was conveyed perfectly, in a rather crude way I must emphasize. As I don't want to spoil the plot, I will leave you with some curious facts which I investigated the same day I saw it and they shocked me a lot, although I must say that I was not surprised since it was to be expected. The first fact is that three people fainted during its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival 2002 and about 200 people left the theater. The second fact is that the first 30 minutes of the film are recorded with a sound frequency that can cause effects such as nausea, dizziness or vertigo in humans.

    503402.jpg-r_1920_1080-f_jpg-q_x-xxyxx.jpg

Now let's go with some warnings about the strongest scenes, mainly I must emphasize that all scenes of violence are extremely strong, the most emblematic scene is that of a VERY disturbing rape that lasts about 9 minutes, I remember that when I saw it I had to close my eyes and cover my ears, like most of those who were watching it with me, I tried to watch several parts, but the duration was excessive and I really could not stand it, it is something that marked me, imagine seeing this in a movie theater, it must be a horrible experience, as if that were not enough, the rapist beats and disfigures the woman, here I digress to highlight the great performance of Monica Bellucci, it is not easy to recreate this, so my respects. The actors also say that watching the scene already recorded was quite uncomfortable. Another quite violent scene is a fight that occurs in a nightclub, which ends with a murder where you can see how they disfigure the face of that person with a fire extinguisher. The colors, sequence, images and sound of the film make you enter a state of discomfort in which you just want it all to end.

    369510.jpg-r_1920_1080-f_jpg-q_x-xxyxx.jpg

This film is definitely not suitable for all audiences, I think I would never have chosen it, but as a film lover I am pleased that I have been deceived because the details of the filming are impeccable, they managed to achieve the objectives that the director wanted. As the events unfold, you feel worse, because they reveal many details that make you closer to the victim and at the end of the film you are left with a bad taste in your mouth, at least for me as a woman, it left me a little sad. If you are going to recommend this movie to someone it is best to warn them about the scenes and let them choose to watch it, it also has a part where there is a play of light so intense that you must close your eyes because it hits a lot on the view, as well as other scenes where the camera moves like a vortex and can cause dizziness. That movie definitely ruined our fun mood that day hahaha it was the worst choice to watch with friends and have a good time, yes it seems to me a work of art, but I think I would have been one of those who threw up at its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival 😂 After this, it ended up becoming a cult film and although for a normal person can be disturbing, the world is full of psychopaths who even touched each other in the middle of the movie theater during the rape scene. Now I want to know your opinion about this film, if you already saw it, if you want to see it or if you would never see it hahaha we'll read each other in the comments. Virtual hug for everyone ❤️

Hello, moviegoers. Today I'm going to do something different, I'll watch a movie and I'll write my opinion during the course of it (something like in the reaction videos but without the video because my camera is not very good at recording, sorry), so the captures will be taken from the screen. And well, let's see how it goes (maybe there will be Spoilers). I'm going to watch a film that was recommended to me just yesterday: Irreversible (2002), by the same director I wrote about yesterday, Gaspar Noé. Let's get started, but first:

⚠️WARNING: Do not watch this film if you have:

    • Labyrinthitis
    • Epilepsy
    • Photosenbiility
    • Drunkenness or being under any substance
    • A plate of food in front of you
    • A dark room
    • Any prejudice that makes you stop watching it.

    • Laberintitis
    • Epilepsia
    • Fotosenbiilidad
    • Borrachera o estar bajo cualquier sustancia

Already at the beginning, it crushed my eyes and ears with that oversaturated intro but when I saw in the names that the beautiful Monica Bellucci comes out, I calmed down a bit, but it doesn't last long because the following shots keep spinning or shaking (I never understood why they do that, I hope they don't last long). Ok, we find ourselves in the middle of a conversation that pretends to be deep between two guys while something (seemingly) normal happens outside their apartment, a fight in a club. NOTE: Honestly, I'm having a bit of a hard time watching it, those camera shakes have me dizzy and somewhat upset but I'll continue. Ok, I'm supposed to have seen a few more seconds but, Gaspar: (Argentinian insult that can't be translated) Wow!, what a stressful thing to see that pure camera shaking and spinning! I continue (against my mental health). Ok (another one, like this post will be full of it), a little bad joke: Dungeons and Snakes (instead of Dragons)! I kind of better watch longer lapses and then write, because this stopping every 5 minutes is already affecting my eyesight (more than usual). Oh, and no, it hasn't stopped spinning and I also notice it's going backwards.

After the graphic of the depths of that sort of masochistic club-dungeon, I didn't understand why almost everyone is bald, any fetish or requirement to enter those types of clubs in France? I say it again, I'm having a hard time finishing this film, it's exhausting, I can't understand so far why nobody tells him who is the guy Marcus is looking for, it's very stressful the change of lights, the blessed camera that doesn't stop moving, the discussions where everybody is talking and shouting at the same time... it's overwhelming, it's maddening. Possibly that's what Gasparcito wanted to achieve but he went too far, he really went too far; of all the bizarre and "hard to watch" movies this one takes the prize and I didn't get past half an hour of watching it... I take a deep breath and continue. I really find it the most difficult, overwhelming and boring movie I've ever seen and I've already seen a few.

Ok, I've made relatively more progress than I thought I would, at this point I don't know who is more intense: Piere or Marcus? I know the French have a reputation for being intense and talking a lot (at least that's how I've seen them in movies), but these are over the top. The other thing that disappointed me was Monica's (Alex) appearance, waiting more than half an hour to show her like that... no. This is where my prejudice came in because I was used to seeing her in performances where she is beautiful and well, here... it was very uncomfortable, it really was, to extend more than five minutes a scene of a brutal rape, I think it was too much for me. Here I have to give credit to this director, he is the first one to make me uncomfortable for so long and so uncomfortable, and with something so common and banal: revenge. And answering the question that opens this paragraph, I think Piere is more intense; he hasn't gotten over Alex (he thought she was his sister), he has her on a pedestal, he only wants them to talk about how sex was with him, in short... he hasn't forgotten her.

From that point on, I realize that the movie has already lost its sense. I mean, it could have ended right there and it wouldn't have changed anything at all, and after you find out that Alex was raped and that's why Marcus goes crazy and seeks revenge, I would have made it shorter, less boring and without so much filler. But maybe there I would give validity to the first dialogue between those strangers: "I think that time... destroys everything." Pure irony, so I don't know if it was an outbreak of madness or an outbreak of genius. Anyway, I didn't like this film, I didn't enjoy it, it exhausted me mentally to excess, it made me uncomfortable, I didn't see depth in it and, well, I could make the list longer. I'm sorry for the 7.1 or so rating I've seen it get. This experiment was not pleasant at all, I started watching it at 11 am and finished watching it at 2:30 pm, and not because it is long, it lasts 1 hour and 37 grueling minutes. So no (sorry for its fans), I don't recommend it. End of communication, I'm going to rest my eyes.
