  1. Thrilling! Jack Ryan (2018 - 2023) Season 1-2 || TV Series Review@esther-emmanuel72d

    1000103474.jpg

I have had this TV series on my watchlist for a while. Last month, I decided to venture into the thrilling world of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. After watching seasons one and two, I can say it's a fantastic experience. Even more, I understand there's going to be feature movie where the main characters from this series will reprise their roles. I can't wait to watch it.

Jack Ryan (2018 - 2023) is a political action thriller television series based on characters from the fictional Ryanverse by author Tom Clancy. Distributed by Amazon Prime Video, it's created by Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland and produced alongside Tom Clancy, John Krasinski, Michael Bay with others.

    1000103472.jpg

Season one centers around global terrorism and tracking by intelligence. We are introduced to Jack Ryan (John Krasinski), a former U.S. Marine officer and Afghanistan veteran, who after a devasting mission becomes a CIA financial analyst. He discovers a series of suspicious bank transfers linked to one Suleiman. Bringing the suspicious bank transactions to his superiors, they discover that the transactions are used to fund a rising extremist network operating directly for the Middle East and Europe.

    1000103477.jpg

Ryan is removed from his desk to the field to work together with his boss James Greer (Wendell Pierce). Together they are able to discover the big plan of Suleiman - a coordinated attack against the West.

    1000103479.jpg

Season 2 gets more intense as it focuses on political conspiracy and power struggles in Venezuela. Ryan is sent to Venezuela to investigate suspicious illegal arms shipments entering the country. This mission is a routine one but then he discovers a larger conspiracy that can destabilise the region involving President Nicolás Reyes.

    1000103480.jpg

Little did Ryan knew it's all a dangerous web of political manipulation, election interference, and other secret agendas. Working alongside his boss, Geer, who struggles with health issues, they go on covert missions, jungle operations, and face life threatening confrontations to bring Reyes down.

    Characters That Pique My Attention

    1000103478.jpg

John Krasinski as Jack Ryan: Krasinski’s performance as the lead character, Jack Ryan, is impressive and unique. He portrays the character as it's written in the novels. At first, he's kind of aggravating but then I realise that the character from book is like that. Once he has his attention on something, he sees it through to the end. He is smart, cunny when he needs to be, resilient, brave and sometimes can be emotional unavailable.

    1000103475.jpg

Wendell Pierce as James Greer: I see Geer as a character who periodically delivers comic relief using dark humor in this series. His performance is convincing. I'm able to connect to him more than Ryan. I'm not happy seeing him have health issues in the second season. He's more like a mentor than a boss to Ryan. He is resourceful, religious, and one of my favorite character in this series.

    1000103485.jpg

Michael Kelly as Mike November: Kelly is an actor who frequently appears in crime, espionage and political thrillers. I always like to watch his films. As a CIA station chief and ally to Ryan and Greer, he brings strategic thinking, a little of comic relief, and presence that helps them navigate political situations well.

    My Review And Rating.

I enjoyed watching the first two seasons of this series and already watching the last two seasons. The first season is an introduction into Jack Ryan's world. You would expect it to be slow paced but it's not. It starts off strong, every episode action-packed and thrilling, and it ends with a blast.

I like Ryan’s transitions from analyst to field agent. It's seamless. There's character growth and evolution along the way. Also, the bromance between Krasinski and Pierce is natural and convincing.

One flaw of the first season is the “familiar terrorism thriller” tropes depicted midseason. This makes the pacing slightly slow but things later pick up. The chase after the villain is well done and though he didn't get much screen time, he proves a worthy opponent for Ryan.

The second season is fast-paced and more action-packed than the first season. Ryan's character is developed to explore outside the box. He faces more power and political games, and manipulation, and how evil it can be.

One thing I love about this series is that the characters are well written and portrayed. The cast are simply perfect for their roles. The antagonists are given more depth and allowed to be ruthless with dangerous ambitions. The themes depicted include terrorism, radicalism, cost of war, growth and change, power, corruption, political manipulation, betrayal and loyalty. These are our reality and the acting makes them relatable and emotionally engaging.

Rating seasons one and two, I will give them 8 stars out 10. Jack Ryan is an action-packed and thrilling watch. There are unexpected twists, mystery, tension and suspense. I was on the edge of my seat all through.

  2. Jack Ryan (series) season 4: So far just as good as the rest of them@netflixr651d

If you have never been a fan of this series I am actually strongly recommending that you get started on season 1. This is a really solid series that revolves around one character but many others as well. As the name suggests "Jack Ryan" is the central figure in this series and that character is played by John Krasinski, whose name you might not know but whose face you almost certainly do.

    image.png src

My first exposure to this guy was in "The Office" and I think that is the case for most people. Unlike almost everyone else that was involved in that series John Krasinski has pivoted himself in such a way that he is now shown to be capable of acting in any sort of situation where one would expect that he would be dedicated to comedy only. This happens to so many actors and actresses: They get well-known because of a certain role and then spend the rest of their careers trying to fight to not be ONLY seen as that character. Just ask any of the people that were in "Friends" about that if you don't believe me.

Jack Ryan is a great series and involves espionage and government secrets via the CIA where Dr. Jack Ryan works initially as a financial analyst. It is obvious that his roles are going to extend beyond that pretty early on and as a viewer we are not let down.

    image.png src

While his role in the CIA is to be an office type, even as early as season 1, it extends far beyond that as time goes by and he has the background to excel in that because of his role as a member of active military before he took on the job of an office PhD in economics later in life. The intro shows that he is an expert marksman as well as a soldier that has been deployed many times and in this regard the show itself can be seen as some level of military propaganda. Don't let that deter you though because obviously this is a work of fiction and they do a really good job of stringing together the 4 seasons.

Season 4 is the last season of this and perhaps this has a lot to do with John Krasinski being tired of doing it rather than it losing popularity. It is one of the most watched shows on Amazon Prime after all.

One thing that tells all I need to know about the burnout of all involved with the show is that all of the seasons up to this one have had 8 episodes but season 4 has only 6. So you have to ask yourself why they would do that other than the fact that they don't really want to do it anymore.

    image.png src

Previous characters from earlier seasons are all still in season 4 unless they were killed off (not many were) and new ones are introduced in this season as well including a seriously fat Michael Peña who is one of those Hollywood celebrities that I am kind of disappointed in for letting themselves go physically.

    image.png src

I don't know how much money we have to give these guys to convince them to get on a treadmill for a month or so but apparently it isn't enough. Michael just looks like the guy you went to college with that really was a lot of fun at parties and could out-drink everyone and it shows in his chins. He isn't even that old so I guess I am happy for him that he got this role. He needs to exercise though because he is presented as being some sort of elite soldier in this and it just isn't believable when it looks like the only thing he would actually run for is free donuts on the corner if they were having a surprise giveaway. I guess it is good that he still had all of his hair but he has to feel inferior when he is standing next to Krasinski, who is around the same age as him but in superior shape physically.

You do not need to know the plot of this or any of the other series that are included in Jack Ryan. You only need to know that it is wonderfully written, has a good pace, and the acting as well as budget keeps things looking real and very entertaining.

    Should I watch it?

    Yes

That is all I really have to say about that. It is a good show by every metric. The episodes end in such a way that you better not try to watch "just one more" while you are trying to go to sleep because if that is your plan you will not be sleeping. I can only imagine that this is the final season because Krasinski doesn't want to do it anymore or because Amazon needed to free up more money to waste on The Rings of Power. This is an absolutely fantastic show and worth the Prime membership on its own.

photodune-6774981-recommended-grunge-red-stamp-xs-643x272.jpg as it should be obvious in the writeup. This series in legally streamed only on Amazon Prime

  3. Jack Ryan Serie | Review [ENG-ESP]@sacra97940d

I really enjoy the time I can watch series and movies, sometimes I find them unattractive so I dare to recommend the Jack Ryan series, also known as "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan"), it has a lot of suspense and action, a lot of politics and current events.

One of the chapters is supposed to take place in Venezuela, since I didn't recognize the Guaira neighborhood that appears in the scenes, I searched for it and made it in Colombia and it makes sense that many of the scenes would have been impossible to film in Venezuela.

    jack-ryan-amazon-screenshot.png

    Fuente/Source

I almost scream at the screen... and it's going to fall; and Reyes is going to fall. If you see the series you will understand me perfectly. There is also the equivalent of María Corina, with fraudulent elections and massive corruption. Jack Ryan seeks the truth behind Venezuela's transactions with several world powers.

Well this is part of a season that focuses on the activities of Caracas, but there are scenes in Russia, in the third season, Jack investigates a plot to detonate an untraceable tactical nuclear bomb and blame it on the United States.

The series really presents us with several settings and countries with high-action situations. When I start to grow fond of a character, they kill him, that's the part I don't like at all.

The series begins with Jack Ryan, a prominent CIA analyst who discovers an unusual movement of bank accounts. He mentions this to his boss and gives him permission to block the money. The boss tells him no. But he orders the bank to be investigated and monitored. Jack disobeys the order and manages to block the account, which causes a strange meeting with the bank manager, agreeing with the analyst.

From there his unexpected journey begins, he is assigned to a dangerous field mission. He soon discovers a pattern of terrorist communication and banking movements. There is a real threat of destruction.

  4. I finally finished the third and fourth seasons of Jack Ryan | Spoiler-free opinion [ENG/SPA]@danielcarrerag947d

Finally I could finish watching this series, 2 years ago I saw its first two seasons that left me with a bittersweet taste, because I loved the first season, but the second one being about Venezuela and being filmed in Colombia, being very noticeable differences, caused me a strange feeling, something like when they abruptly knock you down an illusion, that left me with some uncertainty to see the 3rd and 4th season.

But finally I was encouraged, but with some surprise because I thought that only a 3rd season had been released, not being subscribed for a long time to Amazon, so I did not know about the progress and premieres, until thanks to an advertisement in networks I learned of the 4th season that ended in July this year, so I subscribed again and little by little I have enjoyed their episodes.

The third season gave me back the good feeling that the first one left me, a thriller of action and espionage, where things are revealed progressively, giving the viewer the opportunity to be part of the solution, to believe that he has the answer, to know who is the culprit or the bad guy of the game, I think that is the basis of this series, although it was somewhat intense the theme of espionage in the third season, I think it was a good job.

This season deals with the eternal conflict between Americans and Russians, where a supposed Russian faction wants to return the country to the "glory" of the Soviet Union, attacking the United States to show that they are still to be feared. The theme of espionage between Russia and the United States seems to be always going to work, waging between them supposed technological wars that are public knowledge, so they are themes with which the audience can feel familiar, of course here the United States will always win.

The fourth season I believe was a forced closure, in fact there were only 6 episodes, many speculated that it was not the usual 8 episodes due to problems with its protagonist John Krasinski, which is totally false, since he himself stated that this would be his last season, that he did not intend to renew because the contract he initially signed was only for 4 seasons. The reality is that its premiere was delayed more than it should have been due to the problems caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The theme they addressed in the fourth season was quite peculiar, it starts with Jack Ryan assuming the position of deputy director of the CIA, but this time with the mission of unmasking the corrupt within his country, which is associated with the most powerful criminals on the planet, to achieve this he assumes the same role of the entire series, does not keep the protocols or superior orders, which may be flawed due to so many bad people involved.

The truth is that it was not my favorite this last season, the enemy that appears seemed to me very far-fetched, I will not say which one it is so that it does not cease to be a surprise for those who have not seen it. Also the series had more drama thanks to the return of Cathy Mueller's character (Abbie Cornish) who did not appear since the first season, I guess due to the non-continuation of Krasinski, they had to give a retreat to Jack Ryan with whom at one point was his only romantic relationship.

  5. Jack Ryan (series): Definitely worth watching, at least for now@netflixr1034d

I am only 4 episodes into this series so I don't want to fly out of the gate and tell people that they absolutely must watch this show but so far, I have been entertained for the entirety of the 4, 45-minute episodes that I have seen thus far. This is extremely rare to have happen to me as I normally am quite picky about what I watch, so I think that unless they do something terrible with the story, that this will continue to be really good.

It has a great cast and Michael Bay as a producer, so of course there is plenty of really good action with tons of explosions since Bay really seems to enjoy that sort of thing and is really good at it.

    image.png src

By the way this is NOT on Netflix. Even though my username is netflixr and my original idea was to exclusively follow Netflix material, I have a falling out of sorts with that company in the past couple of years. Now I am on Plex and I am watching movies and TV shows from a wide-variety of streaming platforms. This particular show comes from Amazon Prime but as I am sure you are aware, there are many other ways of obtaining this, and almost any other show in existence.

    image.png src

At first, Jack Ryan might appear to be another Homeland because it does share a lot of the same characteristics in that Jack works for a USA covert operations organization, only this time it is the CIA rather than Homeland Security. His unit specializes in the financial aspects of tracking terrorism, but this quickly becomes raw action rather than just some guy in a cubicle staring at spreadsheets.

This is one of the first times that I am seeing John Krasinski play a non-comedic role. I recall he was in a horror movie where the aliens could see nothing but had super-special hearing. I thought he did a good job in that role but the premise behind the movie was extremely flawed and therefore I couldn't enjoy it.

I'm sure it wasn't easy for him to get himself out of the type-casting of comedy after years of success in the TV show The Office but he has definitely pulled it off in this series.

    image.png src

It begins with him being a bit of a desk jockey and he is content with his simple life in relative safety in the confines of an office in Washington D.C. But due to his discovery of some really important financial happenings in Europe and the Middle East, he is taken out to the forefront since he is the only one that is extremely familiar with the situation.

I like the character because he isn't "all powerful." Although Jack does have a military background and this is shown in multiple flashbacks in the first few episodes, he is still very vulnerable in combat and fighting situations and this kind of in unique when comparing his character to that other Jack with the surname Reacher and a multitude of other series that have a similar plotline.

This is one of the things that makes me more interested in this series that others like it. Jack doesn't always win and even though I enjoy the other CIA type films, it does get a bit annoying that the guy we are focused on is always 10 steps ahead of the enemy and is seemingly invulnerable. Jack Ryan as a character and the organizations that he works with are very vulnerable and often, they lose. You'll find this out in the very first episode so I don't think that is much of a spoiler.

The show has a nice mix of action and drama and I would say that it is just the right mix because neither one happens for such a long period of time that you have a chance to get sick of it.

    Should I watch it?

Out of all the series I have recently watched this is one of my favorites and at least thus far, it is my favorite espionage-oriented series perhaps of all time. Even though I had other things that I needed and wanted to do on the one and only day that I spent watching this, I binged 4 episodes in a row and ended up getting a lot less sleep than I needed that night. I think that most people who watch this will end up having a similar reaction to it.

As far as Amazon series are concerned, this is one of their best and does a tiny bit in making up for the dumpster fire that is The Rings of Power. I'm just hopeful that they don't screw this series up. There are currently 3 seasons available and there is a 4th on the way.

    Tunnel Wave.png

Several times on these screens, in my reviews I have pointed out how today we live in a moment in which the supply of high / very high level TV is almost exceeding the demand. Who, like me, loves contemporary seriality is no longer able to keep up with the many excellent products that are offered every year by the various broadcasters. Just think that in 2018 alone we saw new series such as Sharp Objects, Killing Eve, Pose, Kidding, Castle Rock, Forever, Counterpart, Barry, Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Yellowstone, Bodyguard and others. At least 10 unmissable titles, or hundreds of hours invested in watching what's new added to the many cult series to follow faithfully year after year. To this add that Netflix doesn't miss a beat and that many giants today are following that path with Disney coming soon, Facebook, Apple and Youtube that debuted with their original products this year and Hulu that climbs positions month after month. In this context Amazon has certainly not been watching by deciding to strategically tack on a few products but good, at least in intentions. The house of Bezos has in fact abandoned the old track of creating many pilots and choose some of them to invest heavily on a handful of titles with abnormal production efforts, cinematic. Just think of the investment of 2 billion dollars made on the Lord of the Rings, a creature still unborn and already talked about. It is in this context that last September Jack Ryan, an adaptation of one of Tom Clancy's most famous writings, arrived on screens. Jack Ryan is played by the excellent John Stracinsky, directed, guided by a series of serial minds of great experience among which Carlton Cuse stands out. At his side an old and solid knowledge of The Wire fans, Wendell Pierce. The series doesn't invent or reinvent anything but what it proposes manages to propose it at the highest level. Jack Ryan is one of the many series that, starting from a background of Islam's terrorist war towards the West, try to dissect political, spy and geopolitical plots and subplots. There are no particular flashes, there is not much originality in the development of the story but everything that is shot is done well, very well. There is a lot of action and when we run into shootings, explosions and guerrillas we do it from the inside, we do it with a total immersion and claustrophobic. The investigative events are mostly very credible and well staged. The characters are certainly not unforgettable but they are never flat and flattened, each one having a strong depth that gives interest. The production effort has been enormous, just think that the series physically travels from one part of the globe to another, from France to the Middle East, passing obviously through America. For those who are on the hunt for a product of pure entertainment Jack Ryan does not betray, indeed he raises the bar considerably. For those who are looking for interesting and original novelties then a pinch of disappointment could emerge. We are clearly on the Homeland side, with a pinch of the much idolized 24 and its iconic protagonist Jack Bauer. Compared to Homeland, there's certainly a lack of conspiracy nuances and a pedantic reading of current events, and there's also a lack of interest in the main characters and not only on a purely political and thematic level, but there's no doubt that Jack Ryan draws from them. He draws from there and from action cinema to stage the biggest serial production of genre ever seen. He does it in 8 sumptuous and full of rhythm episodes, perfect for those who want to enjoy a show without too much complexity but with many noteworthy plot twists, having to pay the usual fee of suspending disbelief. These days it may seem little, but in the end it is not.

Attenzione! Leggere i miei post può creare dipendenza!

(Jack Ryan, 2018)@panza2813d
