Known by the kids today as the Nod of Approval Meme. Jeremiah Johnson is much more than a meme. It is a spectacular movie that I happen to stumble upon while browsing for classic movies to watch. I grew tired of modern-day movies and started to hunt for the best classic movies. It is a big change from our usual weekend night movie time.

My wife was a little bit annoyed with me selecting old movies to watch but started enjoying them too. 2.png Image Source

I have seen a lot of survival movies, out in the wild, castaway on an island and the last one that I enjoyed of this genre was "The Revenant". What draws our fascination of being out in the wild and surviving the elements?

Jeremiah Johnson is based on a real-life mountain man named John Johnson. He became legendary and inspired the movie. It is said that he can kill a man with his bare hands and was also known as the Crow Killer.

Jeremiah Johnson lived off the land, hunting and trapping animals. In the movie you will see the struggles of living up the mountain, surviving the harshness of the cold and deep snow.

Since Jeremiah Johnson was a trapper, he traded a lot with the Native Americans. You will also witness a very interesting culture from the tribe

The harshness of the cold created interesting characters like the dead Hatchet Jack. Although it was just a short scene, you cannot help but wonder about the back story of Hatchet Jack. What happened to him and most probably he also had great adventures.

There are no shortages of action and fight scenes in the movie. Jeremiah Johnson is a badass mountain man.

Robert Redford was amazing in this movie. I have seen a lot of his movies except the old ones but I am glad I stumbled on this movie. I would probably also look for his other older movies now. In this movie, he somehow reminds me of Brad Pitt. I think that Brad Pitt looks like the younger Robert Redford in this movie.

Jeremiah Johnson is a gem and everyone should see this movie before they die. It tickles our imagination of living off the land. I was a bit hesitant to watch movies from the 50s to 70s but I was so wrong.

Classic movies will never go out of style.
