This is a movie that mixes romance, drama, humor and a good dose of morals about today's life and dependence on technology, including the everyday nomophobia in people.
It was directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, both of whom had already worked together on the films The Hangover, 21 & Over and Bad Moms, the latter deserving of the People's Choice Award for Best Comedy, and both of whom also wrote the screenplay.
The plot revolves around Phil played by Adam DeVine, known for playing roles as Adam DeMamp in the series Workaholics and Mike Stangle in Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, who is addicted to his cell phone and therefore his life revolves around it, he has no friends and no love life.
One day while talking to a girl his phone breaks and after the impossibility of repairing it he must buy a new one that has a virtual assistant named Jexi, who in an unorthodox way manages to integrate it into a normal life.
As Phil becomes less dependent on his cell phone, the application of the same takes strange attitudes that will produce actions ranging from the ridiculous to the hilarious, including jealousy at the interest and infatuation of this for Cate Finnegan.
She is played by Alexandra Shipp, a Teen Choice Award and Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award nominee for her role as Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse.
Also starring in the film are Michael Pena as Kai, Rose Byrne as the voice of Jexi, Justin Hartley as Brody, Ron Funches as Craig, Charlyne Yi as Elaine, Wanda Sykes as Denice. And Kid Cudi as himself.
It was released in October 2019 and reviews of it were mixed, the most stale being that it was a spotty parody of current tech life, while others found it to be funny and fulfilled the mission to entertain.
It was a low budget film, barely 5 million dollars and its gross was a little over 9 million.
Personally, I enjoyed it with my family and I thought it was good because it shows a side that few people want to see, besides making people laugh.
