  1. Kemono Jihen Review – A Fairly Middle of the Road Anime With Some Great Moments@dlstudios1858d

    image.png

At first, this appears to be an anime that could largely be ignored. Fairly basic characters, decent animation, alright idea, but nothing about it that stands out to catch your interest. You have a small group of half-demons working to solve cases involving other Kemono and try to defuse the situations and keep the peace in the world. It's a kind of plot I've seen a few times before, and it feels a bit unoriginal in a lot of ways. At the same time though, plenty of things about this show do work.

As far as actual character archetypes and plot points there isn't a whole lot to say here, as it's pretty basic stuff you would expect out of this kind of show. Overall it's pretty episodic, each episode or two focusing on one particular case. It doesn't go that in-depth on most characters' stories, and the stories focusing on the two detectives beyond the main character only take about two episodes. It doesn't get too deep into it, but they are all resolved well enough.

That said, the show has the occasional flash of brilliance. The most oddly charming thing about the show is the relationship between the main character, Kabane, and assistant to one of the shows Antagonists(?), Kon. The thing with both characters is they are very honest in how they are feeling, but they both have aspects to them that have kept them largely unable to understand emotions. While at first, it does seem like they are going to be going in a more romantic kind of relationship as the show goes on, it is hard to say how either one of them is feeling. And it's not like either one is trying to hide their emotions or deceive the other, they just both honestly don't understand and it comes across as they are trying to honestly convey their feelings and desires to each other. It's both incredibly charming and funny, and it's one of the few times in an anime I find myself at all invested in a romantic subplot.

Some moments happen sporadically which is rather haunting and unnerving. I can't discuss much because any real hint at what I'm talking about could spoil it, but the moments before the climax of Shiki's story there is a part that made me uncomfortable in the best possible way. The show takes advantage of not being that unnerving or disturbing on a whole to make the handful of moments like this standout. It's an instance of putting these scenes in something trying to be dark the entire run will have little effect, but since it stands out so much from the norm it manages to leave an impact.

But then you have some moments of the show that just fall entirely flat. I don't want to name the character since it's a spoiler, but near season's end you have a character introduced who has had no real social interaction, has led a sheltered life, and is still a small child with no real-life experience. Once part of the rest of the world, she instantly becomes what I would call a 'Hyper Competent' character. She just immediately fits in and can operate at a level far beyond what I am willing to believe possible. Throw in a lot of the kind of jokes I find insufferable, specifically a young girl who is immediately latched on to a guy for marriage (In this case the main character), and I am just happy she is not a significant part of the show after that point.

Part of me is thinking the show has a bit of the same syndrome Golden Kamuy had, where season one showed a lot of promise but didn't do much past establishing what was necessary for the plot. It was fun, had some great moments, and it has me interested in what's coming in season two now that the plot is starting to pick up. Kon feels like she's going to be a bigger part, which I like. The show has enough good moments going for it to make it a cut above average, and I think there is potential in what's to come.

  2. Kemono Jihen Season 1 Review@osakaghoul1912d

    Dark Horse Of the Season

Dropping another Anime review for ya dudes & dudettes this time focusing on Kemono Jihen (Winter 2011 Season) which i ended up enjoying. There will be some minor spoilers in this review.

Kohachi Inugami, a detective who specializes in the occult, arrives at a remote village in the Japanese countryside, tasked by a hostess at a local inn to investigate a string of incidents involving rotting and mutilated livestock corpses that have been appearing for seemingly no reason. While surveying, Inugami notices a peculiar young boy working in the fields. Evaded by his peers and called "Dorotabou" for his stench, the young farmhand is surprised that anybody would take an interest in him.

Inugami, piqued with curiosity, enlists Dorotabou in helping him with the investigation, despite scorned looks from the villagers. Unbeknownst to Dorotabou, this investigation will reveal a strange new world to him—one of the beast-like entities known as Kemono existing in tandem with humans—along with breathing new purpose into his previously empty life. #KemonoJihen #Anime

  3. Kemono Jihen Anime Review@filotasriza31942d

    image.png

Hello everyone, it's been a while since i did an anime review but fear not i am always watching anime as well as series and shows. It's a pretty good anime season i dare to say, with lots of interesting titles and ofc we have the last season of Attack on Titan!

I won't review that today, but another one called Kemono Jihen which is a hidden gem of this season. I have even read most of the manga, so it may worth your time if you like that type of genre!

    Generic Info

    image.png

Let's start by giving some generic info which i bet nobody reads or pays attention even though they highlight important stuff. Kemono Jihen is a 12 episode action/mystery anime that also falls under the umprella of Shounen and Supernatural genre.

It aired during the Winter (2021) season and to be more exact at january 10 2021. As most anime it has 23min episodes and it's coming from a manga. The studio behind is called Ajia-Do.

    Plot

The first episodes starts in a small village in where Kohachi Inugami a detective visits to solve an incident involving rotting and mutilated livestock corpses. The hostess that called him has to sons, one adopted and her own.

Inugami can't help it but liking the adopted boy and he asks for his help to solve the case. Soon they discovered that a Kemono which is something like a demon/monster is responsible for those mutilated corpses.

They kill it but they also realize that the boy called Kabane is a half Kemono. To be more precise he is a half ghoul, half human and actually one of the reason the hostess called Inugami is because he speciases in these "things" and because she wanted him to kill the boy.

Inugami is actually a Kemono himself that's specialises in what else, Kemono cases. He saves Kabane and takes him under his care. Their goal is to find Kabane's parents! Kabane get to know others Kemono kids that Inugami saved Shiki and Akira and later on they become friends.

So basically they are solving Kemono cases, while the kids are trying to grow and understand their powers. Let's not forget that they are still in search for Kabane's familly!

    What I Liked and what I Didn't

    image.png

What i really liked is the plot itself. It's not something that we haven't seen before but it's executing nicely. We get to see the 3 kids grow both in power, learning how to use them but us personalities as well.

They learn what is right and wrong and for what purpose they should be using their powers. They learn what kindnes and friendship is something that none of them knew. It's also interesting to see Kabane's and Shiki's powers as well, we are not used to that kind of powers, at least the "good" guys having them!

The fight scenes are good, it contain blood and some gores scenes as well but i would like to see more and i would also like to see the plot to start getting deeper and darker. As i said i have read a bit of the manga as well and there seems to be more fight scenes i want to see how they will executre it at the anime as well.

If you like that kind of genre then you will also like that kind of anime as well. There is still a mystery behind Kabane's parents and that's something that will hook you more into it!
