  1. Kenichi The Mightiest Disciple: A story of a boy with no talent [ENG/ESP]@cjlugo834d

    wp10548938-kenichi-the-mightiest-disciple-wallpapers.jpg Source

Kenichi is one of those stories that deals with a theme of self-improvement. There have always been countless opinions about talent, whether you are born with it or develop it, which mangaka Syun Matsuena made very clear with this story, or at least gave his point of view about it.

The young protagonist is named Kenichi and is a boy with no talent for martial arts, however by fortuitous conditions and similar to that of Ippo Makunouchi in boxing he begins to train, which has a very strong effect on his development. It is quite remarkable how Matsuena sensei uses martial arts to touch this issue, my son trains martial arts and I know how demanding they are, not everyone endures the trainings.

So it happens with Kenichi, he begins to train and suffer, but as he does his body adapts and develops a power that only these disciplines can give. Kenichi goes from being a nobody to become the strongest disciple, not only for the techniques he acquires but also for the values he has as a person.

The plot is developed in an oriental context, where practicing a martial art is synonymous with honor, where it becomes more than a sport, it is a lifestyle. I quite like this part because the mangaka takes us to that Japanese thinking that is rarely lived in the West, but that has also been left in the past because today's fighters are nothing like those of yesteryear, in that sense it is a nostalgic series.

    wp10548919-kenichi-the-mightiest-disciple-wallpapers.jpg Source

The main plot focuses on a group of masters who fight each other, but each of them has a disciple, and having the strongest of them all is to be recognized as the best teacher. Of course, that becomes clear as the story progresses, Kenichi is privileged because he is under the tutelage of 5 masters who teach him 5 different martial arts, while the others only use one.

Here another question arises, is it better to specialize or to train several martial arts? In our story diversity wins because having a lot of knowledge helps to forge a new martial art based on all the known ones, like Bruce Lee with Jeet Kune do, who has become a legend, a martial arts icon and possibly the best of all time.

Kenichi learns to fight but faces many challenges, especially because the rival masters specialize in using their techniques to kill, so every time Kenichi fights one of the rival disciples the battles are to the death. Here another fundamental principle of martial arts is exalted: "Fight as if your life depended on it", so the author shows he has a broad knowledge of what martial arts really mean.

I watched this series a long time ago, and then I finished reading it in the manga, in the anime only the first and second season is produced, the rest was not animated. Fortunately the manga is complete and its story is fascinating although full of a bit of fantasy, sensuality and comedy. The latter fits very well because the comedy is very well worked, what I do not like was the sexualization of the characters, at first glance it was not so much but as the story was developed the mangaka emphasized certain features that undoubtedly attracted many readers but others were alienated.

In my case I finished reading the story because I found it interesting, besides I was already hooked on it, but I don't usually like these elements so much, in fact they make everything change its tone and you can appreciate another kind of story.

In short, my recommendation is to read the manga, it is long but its story is good and important values can be highlighted, the anime I do not recommend it so much because there is much that was not animated and maybe that can cause you a bad impression or "be stung" and that feeling I do not wish it to any anime lover.

    Thanks for reading

  2. In Pursuit of Strength: How Kenichi's Story Resonated with Me@tpkidkai951d

Ever since high school, I have been watching anime daily. It's fun and addictive, so choosing one of my favorite animes of all time is hard. If asked, History's Mightiest Disciple Kenichi will always be my top pick. (I was planning to say Love Live, but let's leave that aside for now

Kenichi was constantly bullied by the people around him. He was often called 'weak legs,' and being hurt by his classmates was a daily occurrence. He met Miu, the granddaughter of Ryōzanpaku, and decided to befriend her because she's a strong, agile girl and also a beautiful woman( this is important)."

Charmed by Miu's strong charisma, Kenichi followed Miu on her way home and found out that she's living inside a dojo. An old rundown place that can be considered as an abandoned location for people.

Little did he know, that his quest for being the History's Strongest disciple would start there.

I wouldn't be spoiling that much on the details as I want you to know what are the other mishaps that happened to his life.

This anime was not aired in the local television, I recall buying a DVD copy of it back then as I got intrigued on the title as long titles of anime's are not that much rampant back then, the year's 2006 so it is almost 17 years. This was also included on the forbidden section of the stand to where I bought it and I cannot understand why it was there so as a good citizen I removed it from it's place and brought it home.

After watching a few episodes, I was already hooked on Kenichi's character, as he is not the usual strong guy immediately. He undergoes multiple trainings that make him stronger, and there are times when he loses a fight too, and that is okay. At a young age, this series taught me that it is okay to fall and then try again.

It also sparked my interest in mixed martial arts. When I started working and my schedule wasn't as hectic as it is now, I went to a gym that offered Muay Thai classes and Jeet Kune Do. I initially focused on Muay Thai, and switching to Jeet Kune Do became challenging as muscle memories retained from the prior practice. Overall, Kenichi made me realize that if I put effort into trying to become stronger, I can also achieve it.

The anime got stuck in season two, and there's no news regarding additional seasons afterward, but the manga was completed years ago. I remember feeling sad when I read the last chapter, as it took almost 10 years of my life waiting for a weekly update from this series

Ken'ichi Shirahama is a failed and weak young man who does not stand out for a skill or any talent, he became part of the karate club of the school in order to be stronger but he only receives mistreatment from his classmates and they do not teach him anything. The strongest of the club, Daimonji, challenges him to a fight so that the loser retires from the club and does not return because he considers that karate is not for weaklings like Kenichi. Kenichi scared by the threat of his bully, decides to go home, but on the way he hears some noises, he approaches and sees the new girl Miu in trouble, some bullies want to hurt her because she was trying to protect an old man who had been mistreated by the bullies. Despite not having any points in his favor, Kenichi decides to confront the bullies and defend Miu, between a fall and desperate attacks, he manages to hit one of the bullies, who decides to take out a knife and end this. Miu did not decide to stand still and show what she is capable of, an expert fighter in martial arts, she jumped gracefully over her attackers and throwing them through the air, defeated them all and thanked Kenichi for his "help". Surprised he asks Miu to tell him where she learned to do all that, she takes him to her dojo, Ryozanpaku, where Kenichi will learn to be stronger and all kinds of martial arts from the best masters in the world and from Miu's grandfather who is the boss. Although he is suspicious of the place, Kenichi does not give up and goes to train there, with the intention of improving his martial skills and protecting Miu. The fight with Daimonji is approaching, but Kenichi has not learned any attack or defense, he has only trained to strengthen his body, so Miu decides to teach him in a secret way and without the masters knowing two techniques to defeat his opponent, Kenichi motivated trains them without stopping and makes them his own. The day of the fight arrived and armed with only two techniques, he defeats Daimonji with extreme ease, thus putting himself in the sight of everyone by defeating one of the strongest of the school and one of the new members of the Ragnarok gang, who will want him to join them or defeat him if he refuses. From there, we accompany our protagonist training with these masters and facing fight after fight, bathed in a lot of comedy, a bit of romance and a lot of hard work. Kenichi's decision leads him to understand what motivates him to train with this group of crazies, like knowing right away that he is not an expert in any martial art. That's what you read: the guy has no talent for it, not even a little ... That alone sets him apart from the battle shounens protagonists we're used to seeing out there.

The animation I won't say it's the best as it leaves in some moments leaves much more to be desired, you can see characters a little deformed, but if you ignore those little details you can fix your attention to the fluidity and the beautiful corrosions in the attacks, each pose, each technique is measured to perfection thus making a glimpse of the realism of martial arts in anime. Realism because compared to other anime there are no lightning bolts or trails coming out of the fighters, no exaggerated wind movement when throwing a punch, which is good for a change. It is somewhat generic in the character designs as some are very giant and muscular and others are very thin and weak looking, perhaps to show the viewer the challenge the protagonist or character in question is facing.

There is not much to say about the soundtrack, it fits perfectly with the battle scenes, they make you get goosebumps from the tension just before the first blow is struck. Personally, I am fascinated by the scenes in which Kenichi is determined because the soundtrack supported by the plot makes you feel completely motivated, maybe even thinking that you can be like him too.

I won't say it's an original or innovative anime because it's not, but it does have something that is not so present in many anime, which is the realism when training or fighting, as I said before here you won't see dragons, lightning or trails coming out of the character, it's just a simple guy who strives every day training to protect the ones he loves. I've watched this anime about twice because I feel that it has come to motivate me in the sporting arena, as it teaches you that we can all be stronger than we are. So if you want to watch a martial arts and comedy anime that makes you feel motivated the next day to do 100 push-ups a day, I strongly recommend you watch it.
