  1. Movie Review: "Knight and Day" ~ An Action-Packed Movie@princessbusayo521d

Has anyone seen this movie already titled, "Knight and Day?" Trust me, if you haven't, you should. I promise you, it would be an enjoyable one for you because it was for me. The movie is a fun mix of spy intrigue and lighthearted comedy. If you are looking for a movie to crack you up, this is it. No exaggerating but you're gonna love it.

Alright, here is a little summary:

A woman (June Havens) meets this handsome guy (Roy Miller) on a plane. She was travelling to meet her sister, who would be getting married in a few days. It turns out that the guy is a secret agent and a spy on the run. June is just an ordinary woman who gets caught up in his dangerous mission, and she gets dragged into his crazy life, with people chasing after them and explosions everywhere.

Roy's mission is to protect a special battery, and unfortunately, everyone wants it, including the CIA that sent him on the mission. Both Roy and June go from one country to another as they aren't going to release the battery after realising their intentions. Along the line, June Havens starts to trust Roy, who to her, was unpredictable at first. Though things get wild and dangerous, in the end, they outsmart the bad guys, save the day and they both fall for each other.

The movie is a mix of action, comedy and romance. At first, I thought June would be killed, especially when everything turned upside down at the beginning when Roy planted something in her bag unknowingly making her a target to get through to Roy. She bumps into Roy, doesn't realise who he is and soon, her world changes when she gets caught in his high-stakes mission.

Roy Miller is carrying a powerful invention - a battery that never runs out and is being hunted down by both the CIA and dangerous criminals. June, on the other hand, gets tangled in his world as they dodge several bullets, escape plane crashes and travel to places like Spain and Austria.

There were lots of stunts pulled that made the movie thrilling, like when Roy single-handedly killed the people in the plane who were assassins sent to kill Roy and June, he took down the plane afterwards. Another scene was where he was chased down while on a motorcycle as he rode through crowded streets. While the movie is action-packed, the humour keeps things light and fun.

I love how Roy is a cool-headed guy and organised while June freaks out in hilarious ways, especially when she's in danger. Some scenes kept me glued and continuously cracking myself up. Imagine being knocked out, waking up to find yourself in a bikini and riding a motorcycle - all on the same day.

There's this amazing and well-played part where June is seen clinging to Roy as they speed through a crowded street. While she's terrified of the whole saga, Roy never bothered but calmly dodging bullets like it's a regular thing. "He must have trained many months for this," I muttered and smiled. Guess what? It's a movie, isn't it? At one point, June's like, "Is this real?"

Another part I enjoy is when June, who hasn't handled a gun before, is given one to help in a shootout but accidentally does more harm than good. Roy, with a surprising look, was like, "Did you just do that?" Seriously, I kept imagining lots of stuff and wondering, "If I were thrown into the whirlwind, would I keep up, or would I just scream my way through it" But guess what? My hats off to June Havens for her actions, and yes, Roy Miller is a badass, too.

Such madness, but it's what makes the movie a highlight for me. I'd rate it 9/10 because the story was engaging and at the same time, entertaining.

  2. Knight and Day (2010) | Movie Review | Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz@gonklavez91813d

This was never an equation that was going to end well. Take Tom Cruise, oozing charm and class as always. Add Cameron Diaz, feckless and airheaded as you’d expect. And multiply by a nonsensical script that doesn’t even want to be clever. The result? An action-comedy – with both words used in a particularly loose sense – that’s inoffensive and passable, but only if you pretty much shut your brain down first.

Here’s the set-up: Roy Miller (Cruise) is your typical action-hero super-spy, on the run from both the FBI and the CIA, elements of which have turned corrupt and are on the hunt for a recently developed perpetual energy device. Something that sounds like it’d be worth some money to someone.

To protect the designer of the fancy battery, Cruise has gone rogue. During his on-the-lam travels, he happens across car restoration expert June Havens (Diaz). Despite being as irritating as a papercut on a mosquito bite, Roy is instead taken by her – presumably because she’s a hot, leggy blonde – and the two quickly develop an intimate acquaintance.

From this point, it seems as though the prime concern behind making the movie was to transport the cast and crew to as many exotic locations as possible, with actually producing a decent film pretty low down on the agenda. From hot, tropical island paradises to cosy Austrian retreats, the settings are gorgeous as the two leading players.

But the pace is too frenetic, the motivations of the characters – both good and bad – are frustratingly opaque, and you’re given precious little reason to care about anybody at all.

The script should also be ashamed of itself, flying back and forth as it is done between idiotic one-liners and cheesy romanticism – most of which comes out of the mouth of Ms Diaz. Cruise manages to ride the cringe-wave slightly better, but when one of the most watchable actors around looks uncomfortable, you’re in trouble.

The action sequences are just as flimsy – Diaz somehow goes from cack-handed klutz to eagle-eyed gunslinger in double-quick time – and only the odd amusing one-liner helps pull things out of the gutter. Stuck in a ditch between two genres, this is neither funny nor exhilarating enough to pass muster, and you end up wondering why they bothered at all.
