  1. (ENG/SPA) Lights Out a Horror Movie with a Gorgeous Woman@promete0sz1022d

Lights Out is a horror film that uses the paranormal element to create tension in the muscles of the viewer and yes there are moments where it succeeds, the Light is an element to which we are accustomed thanks to the daily life and the modern state of technology of our generation but this does not mean that we do not have tattooed in our minds the fear of the lack of light or perhaps never in your life have you been afraid of the dark.

    • Without Spoilers:

I notice that horror films have lost a lot of strength in the audience and this gives me regret, I think it is the accelerated pace of our times, things, the news only with the passage of 24 hours and go to total oblivion and cease to matter, similarly happens with horror stories, I note that some are no longer scared as easily as before and it is because it has seen everything in the world of cinema on this genre.

In my case I appreciate these films and their attempt to scare, it is easy to sit in front of a screen and say that a fictional situation is not scary but the idea is not that, I like to sit and enter that fictional world for two hours, I enjoy that enormously and if there is something in favor of these films from my point of view are small scenarios with few characters that I can know their traumas.

In Lights Out the protagonist is the Darkness, there is an atmosphere that I think is paranormal which surrounds the film, there are elements that want to give flashes of reality, these situations of imaginary friends that from the psychological point of view children create and it is a situation that convinces me, the plot is linear and simple to understand, it has nothing philosophical because it concentrates on the fear of the dark.

Negative details I can consider the same simplicity of the film, it is something paranormal that tries to scare and that's it, until there comes the plot which is supported by some scenes that are out of logic, there is like an experiment, that is not clear to me and I continue long because the family aspect if this well developed through the protagonist Rebecca played by Teresa Palmer, this if I loved it and why I saw the film, the woman is beautiful and then I was trapped by the monster.

Another element to criticize is the posters, only one I liked, the rest seem so simple, so crappy, I do not see any uncomfortable situation, it's just a switch with a sign or tape stuck to not turn it off, leaves much to be desired, lack of creativity in that aspect for advertising the film, it has a beautiful protagonist, a young woman with a lot of criteria and is not exploited at the level of advertising for the film. The music left me nothing, it is only to accompany, I do not remember any melody that stayed in my mind.

I like the monster, it uses that dark tone with which its silhouette traps me, it has moments that appear and disappear, it surprises me and in the plot it has a past that is where I am not happy because I want to know more about this being, I have the bases, that is explained but we do not get to more and I think it can offer it.

A film that I give it 6 out of 10 because it entertains, a film that is easy to watch, it does not entangle me with philosophical things but it is a sincere film which offers to generate fear, discomfort, terror in the viewer and I think it can achieve it but it stays in that past element, I need more, I want to know more of this being that hides in the dark.

    • With Spoilers:

The Film is based on Rebecca's mother named Sophie had a friend as a child with severe problems with light, she had a complex photosensitivity, severe that did not allow her to function, this girl ends up being the monster of the film because somehow that is not at all clear and is what I criticized, she happens to live in the mind of Sophie and uses the darkness to harass and terrify.

Maria Bello convinced me in her performance, how could she not be disturbed if she has a specter called Diana on top of her who is a manipulator and does not let her be happy, she loves her children, I see that and in fact she sacrifices herself, that part impacted me, I liked to see her blowing her brains out because it was the only way out, the monster was intense, Diana had the situation under control and the resolution of the film was convincing.

Diana has a past that I have a lot to criticize because I don't see much, it's what I wanted to see more developed and there are only slight scenes that mention it, they experiment with her out of nowhere, I assume she was a guinea pig because of her skin condition.

Now I see a huge inspiration in Samara in the supernatural aspect, Diana seems to go into Sophie's mind which is the same thing Samara did by inserting images in objects and minds but in this case she inserted herself as a spectral being that dominates and attacks in the dark.

Martin, Rebecca's younger brother, is only there to complement and so is Bret, Rebecca's lucky boyfriend. I have to talk about the main character, she lives alone and doesn't accept Brett, there is nothing scary about that but it made me laugh, not everything is horror, there is a moment of development in the characters that can be used to convey funny situations of common life, the film has it and it entertained me.

That's why I highlight in horror films the few characters they have, it is almost always like that, 5 characters of which three matter and in this case they are Rebecca, her mother and Diana who is the supernatural specter that plagues the family. The film is entertaining to watch and in theory will have a sequel in the future which I hope and would like to develop Diana, whose past was not at all clear to me, it is so simple that it is nothing in that aspect.

I dedicate each and every one of my posts and videos to my little dog named princess, we called her chiquito, she is no longer with us but from heaven she will see that her existence was valuable and the most beautiful thing that will exist in my heart and soul.

The soundtrack falls somewhere in the middle, it's nothing spectacular or anything like it, it just does its job of generating a moderately decent intrigue through music.

The construction of the world is nice, it is based on using shadows and darkness to generate suspense, its simplicity in its context makes it easy to generate expectation with the various dark scenarios it maintains. In the same way as with the previous point, it is not something super remarkable but at least it is executed in a decent way.

    plot.png

The plot is quite simple, like any horror movie seeks to create an atmosphere of fear, it has a simple premise without much effort, this is also reflected in its plot twists that are completely basic and predictable. Although the premise is not very original, I have to admit that it is somewhat interesting due to the fact of working on an element that at some point anyone could have been afraid and/or respected, this gives the film a certain interesting touch, but not fear. .

    characters.png

Nothing to highlight here, characters who do things without really demonstrating their importance or anything similar, this is a problem because at a given moment the viewer is supposed to care about the actions of a specific character but due to little focus that was given this happens without pain or glory.

Lights out is a curious film that touches on a common theme and tries to make a scary movie out of it, unfortunately it doesn't take advantage of the good setting it generated to bring both its monster and its plot to life, making both feel neglected and incomplete. That is why it deserves 2 stars out of 7, a sad outcome for something that promised a lot.

  3. "Lights Out" by David F. Sandberg - movie review@godflesh2955d

    movieposter.jpg

Those familiar with the remarkable short film "Lights Out" in 2013 are aware of the premiere of the story. A shadowy figure with splintered hair and threatening long nails is approaching each time the lamp key clicks. Click. The figure disappears into the light. Click. The thrills touch us from an unexpectedly approaching anthropomorphic image. Click. There is no one. Click ... Similarly, the feature film is based on Erik Heisener's screenplay, but the unnamed woman in the two-minute film is replaced by a man who finishes his workday at a factory. The same mysterious form appears in the shadows, and after a short play we find the man's bloodstained, bloody body. "Lights Out," does not hurl and does not engage the viewer with irritating details in revealing its story - we quickly understand the mentally unstable mother whose younger son, Martin, suffers from the monstrous representation of the problems in her head. His older sister Rebecca, who has long lived with them. As a younger girl, she has also encountered the shadowy presence in question, but has dismissed it as a nightmare of her childhood, and when her brother shares hir similar experiences, Rebecca does not think of anything more appropriate than taking him to his room for a night. Only to find that presence is real and appears every time the light goes out and the emotional state of the mother is unstable.

    Lights-Out_Feature.jpg

"Lights Out" reminds of the magnificent "The Babadook" in its main motif - unresolved issues of the mother's past and how they affect her children. But the chilling psychological tension that has been in the "Babadook," is replaced by a very real, frightening female figure, whose metaphorical meaning is depression, which gradually and forcefully divides the family, punishing the lives of all involved. On the other hand, "Lights Out" is a film about the different projections of our fear of the dark, which in youths is expressed in a terrifying horror, and in the elderly it becomes an inseparable part of their own essence. But in whatever categories we look at the allusion to the shady presence, it undoubtedly achieves its most important goal - to scare and scare.

The real pleasure of "Lights Out" lies in the operator's work and the sound. Sandberg's sense of composing inconvenient shots, where our attention is constantly focused on the shadows, looking for and expecting something that may not appear, creates tension over the longer duration of the 81-minute film. And the sounds (and their lack), accompanying every appearance of the presence, help create a suffocating atmosphere. David Sandberg's excellent directing feature transforms the simple feature into a spectacular genre that over-exposes an irritating (and most often meaningless) cliché - the so-called jump scares. But it does it in a way that is definitely worth seeing on a big screen. Although "Lights Out" does not miss any problems, he is definitely among this year's hordes of hordes and sets his director in the spotlights for people whose future work we will be watching. And if you can not decide whether you are watching, drop your short film and try your nerves.
