There are TV series that bring back memories of those days before streaming existed, when we had to wait for new episodes to air on TV—entertaining shows with charismatic characters that let us spend an afternoon enjoying each episode.

Hay series que nos traen recuerdos,de aquellos tiempos en los que no existía el streaming, y teníamos que esperar que pasaran los capítulos para verlos por televisión, programas entretenidos, con personajes carismáticos, y así pasar una tarde disfrutando de cada episodio.

“Royal Pains” is one of those TV series, which premiered in 2009, in which we follow a doctor who is forced to leave the city after being blamed for the death of a patient. He moves with his brother to a suburb outside the city, where the wealthy live, and becomes their private doctor, treating only the rich and famous—not bad for a doctor who has just lost everything, including his fiancée.

Royal Pains es una de estas series de televisión, estrenada en el año 2009, donde veremos a un médico, el cual se ve obligado a dejar la ciudad tras verse culpado por la pérdida de un paciente. Con su hermano se muda a un suburbio fuera de la ciudad, donde viven los ricos, convirtiéndose ahora en su médico particular, atendiendo exclusivamente a ricos y famosos, nada mal para un médico,que lo acaba de perder todo, incluso a su prometida.

This series is different from the other medical shows we’re used to seeing, since the doctors don’t treat their patients in a typical hospital, but rather in their own homes, investigating their strange symptoms and illnesses while dealing with their eccentricities.

Hank is our private doctor, who was wrongfully accused of letting a patient die; he moves to the Hamptons and there becomes a doctor hired by the wealthy, and working alongside him is his brother Evan, who handles the finances—and we’ll see how he takes advantage of the situation to live the good life and enjoy the high luxuries of that society—as well as his assistant, Divya. Between the three of them, they drive the entire plot of the series, not to mention Jill, who also contributes to this trio as the hospital administrator.

Esta serie es diferente a las otras de médicos que estamos acostumbrados a ver, ya que sus pacientes no los atienden en el típico hospital, sino en sus propias casas, explorando con sus síntomas y enfermedades extrañas, lidiando con sus extravagancias.

Hank es nuestro médico particular, el cual fue acusado injustamente de dejar morir a un paciente; se muda a los Hamptons y allí se convierte en un médico contratado por los ricos, y junto con él trabaja su hermano Evan, el cual se encarga de las finanzas, y a su vez veremos cómo se aprovecha para vivir bien y disfrutar de los altos lujos de esa sociedad, y su asistente, Divya. Entre los tres logran concentrar toda la trama de la serie, sin dejar de mencionar a Jill, quien también aportará a este trío, siendo la administradora del hospital.

This series is very entertaining because not only do we get to see the medical side of things, with its strange cases, but we also enjoy its touch of comedy—with the quips from Evan, the doctor’s brother; his arguments with the assistant; and even with his brother, as they try to keep the business afloat. His only interest is getting the best deals and taking advantage of the luxuries and women of the Hamptons. This series is known for combining wealth, romance, comedy, and drama into a single show.

It’s true that it sometimes veers into the absurd; like any series, it isn’t perfect—it has its moments—and yet it’s still worth watching, with each episode introducing new characters, including some well-known faces from the world of television. Royal Pains is definitely an entertaining series, with a bit of drama and humor; for those who enjoy this kind of medical drama, I highly recommend it.

Dicha serie es muy entretenida, porque no solo veremos la parte médica, con sus extraños casos, sino que la disfrutaremos con su toque de comedia, con las ocurrencias de Evan, el hermano de nuestro doctor, su pelea con la asistente, e incluso con su hermano, tratando de llevar a flote el negocio; su único interés es conseguir las mejores ofertas, aprovechar los lujos y las mujeres de los Hamptons. Esta serie se cataloga por combinar la riqueza, el romance, la comedia y el drama en un solo programa.

Es cierto que a veces pasa de lo absurdo; con algunos casos, como toda serie, no es perfecta, tiene sus momentos, y aun así, se deja ver, con cada episodio, donde visualizamos personajes nuevos, incluidos reconocidos en el mundo de la televisión. Definitivamente, Royal Pains es una serie entretenida, con un poco de drama y humor, para quienes les gusta este tipo de historias médicas; se las recomiendo.
