A simple Shiny Chariot show was enough to get Akko into the witch academy. After a few years, she still remembers the occasion of the magical traveling fair, the one where she saw Shiny for the first time, drawing her bow, and shooting a magical arrow that exploded in a fireworks show.
Akko wants to be just like her, even though the rest of the wizards and witches consider her idol to be the biggest clown of them all.
Not that Akko is an exceptional witch wannabe either. Her terrible strategies for flying on the broom, plus her lazy ears that don't pay attention to the history of magic, end up turning her into a clown as well. Only the unexpected appearance of a wand can change Akko's destiny, although she must face her worst enemy: herself.

It seems that, still, the fantasy of wizards and witches has a special spark. Little Witch Academia: Ova was that horizontal project that ended up, somehow, conjuring the admiration of the lovers of this kind of themes. It is a zero story, the starting point in the independent symbology of the Trigger studio. The work is a net for Western story lovers; it's chock-full of references that I'd argue derive from Harry Potter. Easily, you can see many nods here.
I admire the ability of Ova's creators to compress large stories into a flash of time. In Little Witch Academia you empathize with Akko from the very beginning. This scruffy, absurd girl, who tries to prove what no one wants to see, can be fussy yet sympathetic: this, perhaps, because of her stubborn insistence on going against the magic system.
Akko has a rival; her name is Diana, and she is an aspiring witch who has everything Akko lacks. They hate each other, not because one is better than the other, but because Diana makes a point of saying that Shiny Chariot, Akko's idol, is a tramp.

The magical world of Little Witch Academia has its differential touch, above all, in the spread of magic and its connection to the philosopher's stone. In the highest tower, radiating with a glorious green, is the jewel that gives life to witches and wizards alike. The interesting thing is that this relic will have great significance in the development of the story.
Another great feature of this world is that, although Akko insists on believing it does, magic is not usually seen as fun. Witches and sorceresses are considered academics of the art, boring, according to Akko, and smelly to boot. There is a stark contrast between what the protagonist longs for, versus the magical reality that surrounds her desires.
But, what is the world if you don't try the impossible?
Akko, in the company of her friends, will unveil what for many witches and wizards was impossible. The weird and clownish girl, with a weird and clownish idol too, will end up achieving a feat that no one, not even she, expected.
The animation and the style of this Ova are two things that give a lot of potential to the rest of the plot elements. It's not a deep philosophical story; it's more straightforward, almost similar to other things we've already seen, but with a catchy and unusual uniqueness.
Little Witch Academia is the prologue to a fascinating world. Before you venture out to watch the anime (if you haven't already seen it) this 26-minute animation may give you enough reason to make up your mind. As far as I'm concerned, it won me over; I like fantasy and I feel the anime will too.

A veces, de lo inusual y lo torpe, surge la mejor inspiración.
Un simple espectáculo de Shiny Chariot fue suficiente para que Akko ingresara a la academia de brujas. Después de algunos años, todavía recuerda la ocasión de la feria mágica ambulante, esa donde vio a Shiny por primera vez, tensando el arco, y disparando una flecha mágica que explotó en un espectáculo de fuegos artificiales.

Little Witch Academia: Ova fue ese proyecto horizontal que terminó, de alguna forma, conjurando la admiración de los amantes de este tipo de temáticas. Es una historia cero, el punto de partida en la simbología independiente del estudio Trigger. La obra es una red para los amantes de la historia occidentales; está repleta de referencias que, según yo, derivan de Harry Potter. Fácilmente, puedes ver muchos guiños aquí.
Admiro la capacidad de los creadores de Ova para comprimir historias grandes en un relámpago de tiempo. En Little Witch Academia empatizas con Akko desde el principio. Esa chica desaliñada y absurda, que intenta demostrar lo que nadie quiere ver, puede ser quisquillosa pero a la vez simpática: esto, quizás, por su terca insistencia de ir contra el sistema de la magia.
Akko tiene un rival; se llama Diana, y es una aspirante a bruja que tiene todo lo que a Akko le falta. Se odian, no porque una sea mejor que la otra, sino porque Diana se empeña en decir que Shiny Chariot, la ídola de Akko, es una vagabunda.
El mundo mágico de Little Witch Academia tiene su toque diferencial, sobre todo, en la propagación de la magia y su conexión con la piedra filosofal. En la torre más alta, irradiando con un verde glorioso, está la joya que da vida a las brujas y magos por igual. Akko, en compañía de sus amigas, develará lo que para muchas brujas y magos resultaba imposible. La rara y payasa, con una ídola rara y payasa también, terminará logrando una hazaña que nadie, ni siquiera ella, esperó.
La animación y el estilo de esta Ova son dos cosas que le imprimen mucho potencial al resto de los elementos argumentales. No es una historia de filosifía profunda; es más sencilla, casi similar a otras cosas que ya hemos visto, pero con una singularidad atrapante e inusual.
Little Witch Academia es el prólogo a un mundo fascinante. Antes de aventurarte a ver el anime (si es que ya no lo has visto) esta animación de 26 minutos puede darte razones suficientes como para tomar una decisión. En lo que a mí respecta, me convenció; me gusta la fantasía y siento que el anime también lo hará.
