No hay duda de que la existencia de historias, tanto en novelas como en comics, las cuales están basadas en las aventuras de jóvenes personajes enfrentando responsabilidades y diferentes peligros, es algo que pareciera no tener fin y que posiblemente en un futuro influenciara a realizar producciones cinematográficas o televisivas; esto no es una queja de mi parte ni mucho menos, ya que hay muchas de estas historias las disfruto de ver porque algunas son entretenidas cuando se desarrollan o profundizan diferentes temas. En este tipo de producciones existe un factor positivo y el cual es la influencia que crea en personas que no se conforma en ver la versión de acción-real y por eso decide en el material de origen, sea libros o comics, conectarse aún más con la historia; seguramente es la necesidad de ser un verdadero fan, pero es algo que me parece válido porque nutre a un público a apoyar a quienes crearon estas historias. En la nueva serie de Netflix da la oportunidad de conocer una historia que encaja perfectamente en esta descripción, una en dónde jóvenes son empujados a ser adultos en un mundo sobrenatural.
There is no doubt that the existence of stories, both in novels and comics, which are based on the adventures of young characters facing responsibilities and different dangers, is something that seems to have no end and that possibly in the future will influence film or television productions; this is not a complaint on my part, far from it, since there are many of these stories that I enjoy watching because some are entertaining when they develop or deepen different themes. In this type of productions there is a positive factor and which is the influence it creates in people who are not satisfied in seeing the action-real version and therefore decide in the source material, whether books or comics, to connect even more with the story; surely it is the need to be a true fan, but it is something that seems valid to me because it nurtures an audience to support those who created these stories. In the new Netflix series gives the opportunity to know a story that fits perfectly in this description, one where young people are pushed to be adults in a supernatural world.
La nueva serie de Netflix, "Lockwood & Co.", la cual fue estrenada a finales de enero, es basada en una serie de novelas del mismo nombre escrita por Jonathan Stroud, y en dónde relata la historia ficticia de un Londres donde la aparición de fantasmas han cambiado completamente afectando lo que es la economía y otras situaciones y en dónde la única solución fue el crear agencias confirmadas por adolescentes los cuales más sensibles a enfrentar estos eventos sobrenaturales; son ellos los que deben exponer sus vidas para hacer frente a esta grave problemática y es ahí donde aparecen los tres personajes principales: "Lucy Carlyle", "George Karim" y "Anthony Lockwood"; justamente este último es quien crea una agencia independiente que no sigue las reglas impuestas y por eso obtendrá asignaciones peligrosas que podrán revelar secretos que harán que aparezcan enemigos peligrosos este mundo o del otro.
Netflix's new series, "Lockwood & Co.", which premiered at the end of January, is based on a series of novels of the same name written by Jonathan Stroud, and where it tells the fictional story of a London where the appearance of ghosts have changed completely affecting the economy and other situations and where the only solution was to create agencies confirmed by teenagers who are more sensitive to face these supernatural events; they are the ones who must expose their lives to deal with this serious problem and that is where the three main characters appear: "Lucy Carlyle", "George Karim" and "Anthony Lockwood"; precisely this last one is who creates an independent agency that does not follow the imposed rules and for that reason will obtain dangerous assignments that will be able to reveal secrets that will make dangerous enemies appear this world or the other.
Esta serie es creada por Joe Cornish el cual es actor director, guionista y productor inglés y que obtuvo reconocimiento después de dirigir y escribir el film del 2011, "Attack the Block", el cual fue su debut como director; después de liderar esa producción fue parte de otras más hasta el momento de que se enfocará en esta historia creada por Stroud, que en cinco libros relató la historia de estos tres adolescentes y sus aventuras en un Londres lleno de fantasmas. Esta primera temporada veremos una historia pequeña, enfocada en un solo punto de vista de uno de sus protagonistas, en dónde observamos influencia de las muchas series de suspenso, misterio, fantasmas y otras criaturas que existieron más que nada en los 90'; eso sí, con un buen toque inglés en dónde el humor y la actitud de sus protagonistas hace mejor la historia.
El uso del CGI es más que correcto, en mi opinión es perfecto para esta historia porque no existe una mala imagen en los fantasmas que vemos en varios episodios; como dije anteriormente, al ser una producción con un presupuesto pequeño y se ve lo inteligente en el uso de algunas escenas donde aparecen estos peligrosos antagonistas; con respecto a otras escenas, me gusta que se tenga el tiempo de explorar otras cosas que permite las actualizaciones de sus protagonistas y esto lo digo porque se crea un balance entre todo lo que deben enfrentar los protagonistas en los ocho episodios que conforman está primera temporada.
This series is created by Joe Cornish who is an English actor, director, screenwriter and producer and who gained recognition after directing and writing the 2011 film, "Attack the Block", which was his directorial debut; after leading that production he was part of other productions until the moment he will focus on this story created by Stroud, who in five books told the story of these three teenagers and their adventures in a London full of ghosts. This first season we will see a small story, focused on a single point of view of one of its protagonists, where we observe the influence of the many series of suspense, mystery, ghosts and other creatures that existed more than anything in the 90's; yes, with a good English touch where humor and attitude of its protagonists makes the story better.
The use of CGI is more than correct, in my opinion it is perfect for this story because there is no bad image in the ghosts that we see in several episodes; as I said before, being a production with a small budget and it is seen the intelligent in the use of some scenes where these dangerous antagonists appear; with respect to other scenes, I like that it has the time to explore other things that allows the updates of its protagonists and I say this because it creates a balance between everything that the protagonists must face in the eight episodes that make up this first season.
Los personajes, el trío de protagonistas, es de lo más positivo de la serie; por supuesto que cumplen con los clichés impuestos en este tipo de historias, pero como están escritos e interpretados es de lo mejor, a eso sumó la química que existe entre los tres actores. Anteriormente, escribí de que esta historia es relatada desde el punto de vista de uno de sus protagonistas y justamente ese es mi personaje favorito, me refiero a "Lucy Carlyle" interpretado por Ruby Stokes quien hace un excelente trabajo dando vida a una chica que solo deseaba una vida normal de adolescentes y que por el don que tiene la impulsa a tener una profesión en dónde poner en riesgo su vida no le ofrece absolutamente nada a cambio; Lucy es fuerte, valiente, con una curiosidad enorme y eso la lleva a enfrentar muchos peligros; con respecto a los otros dos personajes, "George" y "Lockwood" interpretados por Ali Hadji-Heshmati y Cameron Chapman; sus personajes se desarrollan adecuadamente, teniendo importancia en varios episodios; ambos inteligentes, habilidosos, valientes y con intereses diferentes dependiendo en lo que es su trabajo; ambos actores hacen un buen trabajo y son los perfectos acompañantes para Lucy.
The characters, the trio of protagonists, is one of the most positive aspects of the series; of course they comply with the clichés imposed in this type of stories, but the way they are written and interpreted is one of the best, in addition to the chemistry that exists between the three actors. Previously, I wrote that this story is told from the point of view of one of its protagonists and that is my favorite character, I am referring to "Lucy Carlyle" played by Ruby Stokes who does an excellent job giving life to a girl who only wanted a normal teenage life and that the gift she has drives her to have a profession where risking her life offers absolutely nothing in return; Lucy is strong, brave, with a huge curiosity and that leads her to face many dangers; regarding the other two characters, "George" and "Lockwood" played by Ali Hadji-Heshmati and Cameron Chapman; their characters are adequately developed, having importance in several episodes; both intelligent, skilled, brave and with different interests depending on what is their job; both actors do a good job and are the perfect companions for Lucy.
Me tomé un tiempo para ver esta serie porque siempre espero esa lamentable noticia de que si una nueva producción tendrá o no la suerte de obtener una segunda temporada y ese tipo de noticia hace que pierda interés en ver una serie porque así no termino enojado al saber que una buena historia no tendrá una continuación, pero al final decidí verla porque quería ver una historia donde el peso protagónico esté enfocado en como un grupo de adolescentes deben descubrir las responsabilidades de la vida por sí mismos dependido de las decisiones que toman y que de una manera u otra, esas experiencias tengan un nivel alto de dificultad cuando lo normal no es parte de sus vidas; este tipo de historias las encontré en la serie de Amazon Prime, "Paper Girls" y "Deadly Class", ambas lamentablemente canceladas, pero que mantiene características similares a la serie que hago reseña en esta publicación. Lockwood & Co. es una buena serie, no es perfecta porque uno de sus arcos es resumido muy abruptamente, aunque da comienzo a uno definitivo en la serie y es que esta primera temporada se influenció en los dos primeros libros de esta serie de novelas, pero a pesar de eso, pienso que su historia es bastante entretenida y en realidad espero que tenga una segunda temporada en dónde se desarrolle mejor la historia y así ver más de ese mundo lleno de jóvenes agentes y peligrosos adultos y fantasmas.
I took some time to watch this series because I always wait for that unfortunate news of whether or not a new production will be lucky enough to get a second season and that kind of news makes me lose interest in watching a series because then I don't end up angry to know that a good story won't have a continuation, but in the end I decided to watch it because I wanted to see a story where the protagonist weight is focused on how a group of teenagers must discover the responsibilities of life for themselves depending on the decisions they make and that in one way or another, those experiences have a high level of difficulty when the normal is not part of their lives; I found these types of stories in the Amazon Prime series, "Paper Girls" and "Deadly Class", both unfortunately cancelled, but which maintain similar characteristics to the series I review in this publication. Lockwood & Co. is a good series, it is not perfect because one of its arcs is summarized very abruptly, although it starts a definitive one in the series and this first season was influenced by the first two books of this series of novels, but despite that, I think its story is quite entertaining and I really hope it has a second season where the story is better developed and thus see more of that world full of young agents and dangerous adults and ghosts.
