Perhaps one of the most exciting aspects and that sadly not all anime or movies manage to achieve is to generate a completely unexpected ending, shocking and at the same time that manages to answer most of the doubts resulting in a great ending and a good closure for the story, this is precisely an aspect that I feel that Kagami no Kojou achieves in a great way, a film which I decided to see by pure chance, without recommendation or opinions and in the end it was a very unexpected and entertaining result. This film is relatively recent, dating from the end of 2022 and relatively long, with a length of almost 2 hours.
This film introduces us to Kokoro Anzai, a young girl who the first thing we can appreciate about her is that she suffers from some kind of bullying and that is why she does not want to go to high school and at the same time we can notice how this seems to take time due to the reaction of her mother when she tells her that again she will not go to school and will stay home alone, something very common in young people who suffer from bullying and try to avoid going to school at all costs.
Although it is a somewhat dramatic background it is still something common, but this ends very soon when we see how Kokoro is attracted by a strange glow that comes out of her mirror in the room and is transported to a strange castle in the middle of the ocean where a young girl with a wolf mask and peculiar strength welcomes her and takes her inside the castle with 6 other young people who are in the same situation as her, not knowing what they do in that castle and why they were transported or chosen.
Although everything is very mysterious and intriguing they manage to explain the situation to both the young people and the viewer in a very simple way, all the young people were invited to the castle to search for a hidden key that opens a secret room which grants the greatest wish of whoever enters it, a single desire but without restrictions on the desire, all young people will have exactly one year to find the key and the room and can only search at a stipulated time, after that time limit must return home for the mirror or will be devoured by a giant wolf. Many unanswered questions, but at the same time quite simple to know the goal of the young people, for some reason it reminded me of the classic style of anime films like Spirited Away where not many things are explained, but what Chihiro must do.
The development of the film at the beginning is somewhat slow and a little absurd to some extent, we see how the vast majority of young people simply spend months having fun and hanging out in the castle without looking for the key or the room of desires, although gradually they relate to each other and creating a group friendship, it is this aspect where this story takes a more dramatic and realistic approach to the daily lives of a large number of students, We see how all of them in one way or another are harassed in their classes and for this reason had simply decided not to return to classes, we can see how they feel some fear or pain for the situation they suffer while they begin to feel a joy and comfort among all to be going through similar situations and thus all support each other, we even see how in the end all turn out to be students of the same institute but from different classes.
As the story progresses we get to know more and more about the past and situation of all the characters, especially Kokoro's story, we see how they manage to support each other and how Kokoro tries to get strength to try to overcome his fears, at the same time the story starts to become more mysterious and adds more and more fantasy elements to the situation of the strange castle in the middle of the ocean where they can only access through a mirror, the interest and surprise in the story increases quickly and surprisingly where they even add totally unexpected elements that cause great excitement in the viewer and make you start to create theories about what is really happening in the castle and with the young people.
In the end the development of the story and the characters is quite good and interesting, although you could not create a great development for 7 characters in the same way they manage to do a good job with everyone and you get to sympathize with their situations where some have more tragic past than others, although the first months pass in a matter of minutes the story never ends up feeling rushed and it even makes sense that many months pass and simple scenes with characters that at first are distrustful of others.
One aspect that stands out quite a bit in Kagami no Kojou is its animation, it is quite good and striking at all times and in some specific moments it manages to be really striking and detailed with the designs, with its intense colors and castle designs it is inevitable not to feel a nostalgia for the old animes of the last century, likewise its soundtrack and effects are very good and according to the situations, especially the howling of the wolf that turned out to be incredibly disturbing. An unexpected but rewarding movie to watch.

Tal vez uno de los aspectos más emocionantes y que tristemente no todos los animes o películas logran conseguir es generar un final completamente inesperado, impactante y al mismo tiempo que logre responder gran parte de las dudas haciendo que resulte en un gran final y un buen cierre para la historia, esto precisamente es un aspecto que siento que lo consigue de gran manera Kagami no Kojou, una película la cual decidí ver por pura casualidad, sin recomendación ni opiniones y al final fue un resultado muy inesperado y entretenido. Esta película es relativamente reciente al datar de finales del 2022 y relativamente larga al contar con una duración de casi 2 horas.
Esta película nos presenta como protagonista a Kokoro Anzai, una joven muchacha quien lo primero que podemos apreciar sobre ella es que sufre de algún tipo de acoso escolar y por eso no quiere ir al instituto al mismo tiempo que se puede notar como esto parece llevar tiempo debido a la reacción de su madre cuando le dice que nuevamente no ira a clases y se quedara en la casa sola, algo muy frecuente en los jóvenes que sufren de acoso e intentan evitar a toda costa ir a clases.
Aunque es un trasfondo algo dramático no deja de ser algo común, pero esto termina muy pronto cuando vemos como Kokoro es atraída por un extraño brillo que sale de su espejo en el cuarto y es transportada a un extraño castillo en medio del océano en donde una joven niña con mascara de lobo y fuerza peculiar le da la bienvenida y la lleva al interior del castillo con otros 6 jóvenes que están en la misma situación de ella, no saber que hacen en ese castillo y por qué fueron transportados o escogidos.
Aunque todo es muy misterioso e intrigante logran explicar la situación tanto a los jóvenes como al espectador de una manera muy simple, todos los jóvenes fueron invitados al castillo para poder buscar una llave escondida que abre una habitación secreta la cual concede el mayor deseo que anhelé quien entre en ella, un solo deseo pero sin restricciones en el deseo, todos los jóvenes tendrán exactamente un año para encontrar la llave y la habitación y solo pueden buscar en un horario estipulado, luego de esa hora límite deben volver a su casa por el espejo o serán devorados por un lobo gigante. Muchas dudas sin responder, pero al mismo tiempo bastante simple para saber el objetivo de los jóvenes, por alguna razón me recordó al estilo clásico de las películas de anime como El viaje de Chihiro en donde no se explica muchas cosas, pero sí que debe hacer Chihiro.
El desarrollo de la película en un inicio es algo lento y un poco absurdo hasta cierto punto, vemos como la gran mayoría de los jóvenes simplemente pasan meses divirtiéndose y pasando el rato en el castillo sin buscar la llave o la habitación de los deseos, aunque poco a poco van relacionándose entre sí y creando una amistad grupal, es este aspecto en donde esta historia toma un enfoque más dramático y realista de la vida diaria de un gran número de estudiantes, vemos como todos de alguna u otra manera son acosados en sus clases y por este motivo simplemente habían decidido no volver a clases, se puede apreciar como sienten cierto temor o dolor por la situación que sufren mientras van empezando a sentir una alegría y comodidad entre todos al estar pasando por situaciones similares y de esa forma apoyarse todos, incluso vemos como al final todos resultan ser estudiantes del mismo instituto pero de clases diferentes.
A medida que avanza la historia se va conociendo cada vez más sobre el pasado y situación de todos los personajes, en especial la historia de Kokoro, se ve como consiguen apoyarse entre sí y como Kokoro intenta conseguir fuerza para tratar de superar sus temores, al mismo tiempo la historia empieza a volverse más misteriosa y va agregando cada vez más elementos de fantasía a la situación del extraño castillo en medio del océano en donde solo pueden acceder por un espejo, el interés y sorpresa en la historia aumenta de manera rápida y sorprendente en donde incluso agregan elementos totalmente inesperados que causan una gran emoción en el espectador y te hacen comenzar a crear teorías sobre lo que realmente está sucediendo en el castillo y con los jóvenes.
Al final el desarrollo de la historia y los personajes resulta bastante bueno e interesante, aunque no se podría crear un gran desarrollo para 7 personajes de igual forma logran hacer un buen trabajo con todos y consigues simpatizar bastante con sus situaciones en donde unos tienes pasado más trágico que otros, aunque los primeros meses pasan en cuestión de minutos nunca se termina sintiendo apresurada la historia y hasta tiene sentido que pasen muchos meses y escenas sencillas con personajes que en un principio son desconfiados con los demás.
Un aspecto que resalta bastante en Kagami no Kojou es su animación, es bastante buena y llamativa en todo momento y en algunos momentos en específico consigue ser realmente llamativa y detallada con los diseños, con sus colores intensos y los diseños del castillo es inevitable no sentir una nostalgia de los antiguos animes del siglo pasado, del mismo modo su banda sonora y efectos son muy buenos y acorde a las situaciones, en especial al aullido del lobo que resultada ser increíblemente inquietante.
