¿Comó están el día de hoy? Yo muy bien, muy feliz de comentarles que por fin logré verme una película que tanto me han recomendado gracias al tipo de película que yo veo. Una amiga me comentó, que si quería ver una película que me agarra desprevenida, que le diera oportunidad a esta, ya que según ella, sería imposible que supiera todo lo que ocurría. Sin más, quiero hablarles de esta producción y, además, comentarles mi opinión de si es realmente buena.

How are you today? I'm very well, very happy to tell you that I finally managed to see a film that has been so highly recommended to me thanks to the type of film I watch. A friend of mine told me that if I wanted to see a film that would catch me off guard, I should give this one a chance, because according to her, it would be impossible for me to know everything that was going on. Without further ado, I would like to tell you about this production and, moreover, tell you my opinion on whether it is really good.

La historia sigue a una agente del FBI, Lee Harker, quien es asignada a un caso que ha permanecido sin resolver durante años: la búsqueda de un asesino en serie conocido como Longlegs. The film's atmosphere is one of its strongest points, with dark photography and sound design reinforcing the sense of constant unease. The denouement of this production is unconventional, leaving several questions unanswered and allowing the audience to interpret certain aspects of the plot. This can be frustrating for some, but very interesting for others. Throughout the story, themes of evil, obsession and the limits of sanity are explored, all wrapped up in a narrative that defies expectations. If you want a film that is a mental challenge to figure out who is the character behind it all, without expecting it, this film may be for you.

Debo confesar que esta película sin duda deja una impresión duradera, que hasta el principio logra sumergirte en un ambiente inquietante y opresivo que te mantiene en vilo. Toda esta combinación de suspenso y elementos de horror de trama pesada funciona bastante bien, creando una sensación en como constante. Algo que sin duda confesar es que en mucho momento sí me agarró totalmente desprevenida, aunque en otros creo que incluyeron algunos momentos como para hacer sentir al espectador que tenía el conocimiento de lo que estaba pasando, pero realmente no era así

I must confess that this film certainly leaves a lasting impression, that right from the beginning it manages to immerse you in an unsettling and oppressive atmosphere that keeps you on edge. The whole combination of suspense and plot heavy horror elements works quite well, creating a sense of a constant feeling. One thing I will definitely confess is that at many points it did catch me completely off guard, although at others I think they included some moments to make the viewer feel like they had the knowledge of what was going on, but they didn't really.

Uno de los aspectos más destacables es la fotografía oscura y los tonos fríos, lo que le dan a la película un aspecto visual increíble, casi como estuvieras viviendo en una pesadilla. El diseño de sonido también merece una mención muy especial, ya que como siempre digo, es importante que haya un buen sonido o una buena banda sonora de fondo para tu hacerte parte de una película. Algo que me encantó es que cada ruido, cada silencio, cuidadosamente pensado para mantenerte alerta y buscando pistas que te lleven a ver un poco más de qué está pasando por detrás de esta película

One of the most remarkable aspects is the dark photography and cold tones, which give the film an incredible visual aspect, almost as if you were living in a nightmare. The sound design also deserves a very special mention, as I always say, it is important to have a good sound or soundtrack in the background to make you part of a film. Something I loved is that every noise, every silence, carefully thought out to keep you alert and looking for clues that lead you to see a little more of what is going on behind this film.

Algo que sin duda me gustó bastante, aunque sí termina siendo un poco confusa la historia del asesino y su conexión con la gente del la FBI. Es buena protagonista, me gustó que esté lleno de giros y pistas que, si bien son interesantes, a veces parecen demasiado confusos. Hay momentos de la película que parece perderse en su propia complejidad, lo que puede hacer es que te sientas un poco desconectado, pero con solamente prestarle mucha atención a cada pequeño detalle, sé que podrás hacerte cada vez más parte de la trama. Aun tomando todo esto, la narrativa funciona muy bien, dándonos un resultado que hasta detrás de cámara a la misma protagonista me dio mucha ansiedad y mucho nervio la actuación tan única de nuestro asesino

Something I certainly liked, although the story of the killer and his connection with the FBI people ends up being a bit confusing. It's a good protagonist, I liked that it's full of twists and turns and clues that, while interesting, sometimes seem a bit too confusing. There are moments in the film that seem to get lost in their own complexity, which can make you feel a little disconnected, but just by paying close attention to every little detail, I know you can become more and more a part of the plot. Even taking all this into account, the narrative works very well, giving us a result that even behind the camera, the protagonist herself gave me a lot of anxiety and a lot of nerves with the unique performance of our killer.

Otra cosa bastante destacable es la actuación de los personajes más que nada el asesino el cual hizo un papel increíble que no me esperaba por ningún lado también hay que hablar del papel que hizo nuestra protagonista, ya que este no se queda para nada atrás logrando hacerte partícipe de cada uno de los momentos, ya que no hay momentos sobreactuados ni escenas mal puestas simplemente todo está donde debe estar. Algo que capaz pudieron mejorar es que el asesino no aparece mucho en pantalla, lo cual es un punto que llegó a entender, pero puede dejar algunos cabos sueltos entre la trama y los espectadores con ganas de ver más de este personaje tan intrigante que hizo una aparición única. Pero eso sí, cuando aparece, sin duda roba la escena. Su presencia limitada es un poco frustrante, pero en el momento en que hace presencia, cualquier otro personaje se opaca ante él

Another thing quite remarkable is the performance of the characters more than anything the murderer which made an incredible role that I did not expect anywhere I also have to talk about the role that made our protagonist, as this is not left at all behind making you participate in each of the moments, as there are no overacted moments or poorly placed scenes simply everything is where it should be. One thing that could be improved is that the killer doesn't appear much on screen, which is a point I could understand, but it can leave some loose ends in the plot and leave viewers wanting to see more of this intriguing character who made a unique appearance. But yes, when he does appear, he certainly steals the show. His limited presence is a little frustrating, but the moment he does make an appearance, every other character is overshadowed by him.

Dependiendo de cómo lo veas lo verás como un acierto o un error que hayan dejado tantos cabos sueltos, por un lado, refuerza el tono misterioso y opresiva la película imitándote a reflexionar sobre lo que acabas de ver y, por otro lado, puede resultar insatisfactorio para aquellos que buscan un cierre más claro y definido. Pero sin duda algo que tenemos que reafirmar es que el final fue confuso, loco e intrigante para todo lo que le vieron

One of the most controversial aspects of this film is its ending. Without spoiling too much, the open ending leaves several questions unanswered, which suggests that there may be a sequel. Depending on how you look at it, you'll either see it as a good or a bad thing that so many loose ends have been left, on the one hand, it reinforces the mysterious and oppressive tone of the film, encouraging you to reflect on what you've just seen, and on the other hand, it can be unsatisfying for those who are looking for a clearer and more defined closure. But certainly one thing we have to reaffirm is that the ending was confusing, maddening and intriguing for all who saw it.

Sin duda, esta película tiene muchísimo que ofrecer. Me la recomendaron por mucho tiempo, pero nunca quise hacer realmente caso, ya que por falta de tiempo y otros factores no le había tomado mucha importancia, pero sin duda, si te gusta un misterio muy marcado, esto puede ser para ti. Su atmósfera, fotografía, y diseño de sonido son increíbles. Hay momentos de verdadero suspenso que te dejan pensando y bastante inquieto. Su trama bastante fuerte y marcada es el toque definitivo. Esta película para mí es un 8/10. Es una película muy buena en el ámbito del horror y del suspenso. Aunque no sean de mis favoritas, siento que el final algo confuso fue clave y único, que nos deja las puertas abiertas a si habrá una secuela o si simplemente la historia ahí acaba

Without a doubt, this film has a lot to offer. It was recommended to me for a long time, but I never really wanted to pay attention to it, as due to lack of time and other factors I hadn't paid much attention to it, but without a doubt, if you like a very strong mystery, this could be for you. Its atmosphere, photography, and sound design are incredible. There are moments of real suspense that leave you thinking and quite unsettled. It's quite strong and marked plot is the definitive touch. This film for me is an 8/10. It is a very good film in the realm of horror and suspense. Although not one of my favourites, I feel that the somewhat confusing ending was key and unique, leaving the door open as to whether there will be a sequel or if the story simply ends there.

The latest horror film from director Osgood Perkins is a surprise hit. The R-rated thriller follows Micah Monroe as a fresh-faced FBI agent in the 1990s, who must uncover a series of occult clues to end an unexplainable murder spree by a mysterious serial killer known only as Long Legs. The movie relies more on its unsettling atmosphere than traditional scares, but the results are literally hair-raising.

I was both fascinated and enjoyably uncomfortable the entire time. Monroe is fantastic in the lead role, as she attempts to hide her unraveling anxiety behind a wall of intelligence and stoicism. Her subtle performance is a brilliant mix of nervous and confident, and so much of the film's vibe succeeds as a result. In regular phone calls home, her mother is quick to remind Micah, our prayers protect us from the devil.

As her FBI boss, Blair Underwood primarily serves as a mouthpiece for exposition, but is positively chilling during the film's inspired final scenes. We follow their twisty investigation of a decades-long string of confusing murder suicides as they interview witnesses, decode cryptic ciphers, and explore creepy abandoned buildings.

The demonic underpinning notwithstanding this is a fairly compelling crime procedural and its own right, and if you like the TV shows X-Files or Fringe, you're definitely going to have interest in this movie as well. Last and certainly not least is the venerable Nicholas Cage as the title character. Although only glimpsed for a few total minutes of screen time, he makes the best of it with a truly go-for-broke performance.

Despite with deep white makeup, cowboy clothes and a prosthetic nose, he resembles a sort of porcelain clown and is as memorable as he is creepy. He is making some incredible choices that are wholly unique, that only Nick Cage could deliver. By the conclusion of this movie, the hair on my hands were standing straight up, and I felt like I wanted to crawl out of my skin, a truly effective descent from a normal human drama into the frightening realization of a new, dangerous reality. All bolstered by steady cinematography and pitch-perfect sound design.

Mixing aspect ratios for different time periods, Perkins adeptly uses wide-angle lenses at eye-level, with just enough movement to keep the viewer off balance. Oz's brother, Ziggly, provides the score, a steady stream of moody tones and strengths with the occasional bolts of noise to arrest the audience's attention anew. I seem predisposed to be affected by a good, demonic possession story, they're usually my favorite of this genre.

So this movie may be uncomfortable throughout, in the best possible way. If that isn't for you, I doubt long legs is good to win you over, but for me, it was a chilling experience thanks to its A-plus performances and moody atmosphere. I thought it was a very cool film. Fans of psychological horror or serial killer mysteries should definitely enjoy this one.

Longlegs (2024) es una película de terror psicológico y está dirigida por Osgood Perkins, ha levantado bastantes expectativas y rumores de que provocó ataques de pánico a la gente  pero capaz y son un poco de exagerados, muchas veces gente que esta a favor de la pelicula por que le pagan por hacer un video o review, como no me dejo llevar por la exageración decidí verla y aunque estaba un poco escéptico puedo decir que no me pareció tan terrorífica o inquietante como la gente la ha hecho parecer, pero es una película buena y me hizo sentir incómodo incluso después de que la película terminó, es ese tipo de película que se te mete en la piel y que te deja una mala sensación que no se va, yo iwal se la recomindo a cualquiera que le guste las peliculas de suspenso con algo de terror.

La trama se basa en la protagonista Lee Harker, una agente del FBI , interpretada por Maika Monroe que intenta resolver varios asesinatos relacionados con la figura de Longlegs. En cuanto vi a Monroe, me gustó bastante su actuación, creo que aborda a Harker con un cierto nivel de intensidad que me parece adecuado para el personaje. Harker no es como cualquier otro agente del FBI de cabeza dura, es bastante reservada y tiene una personalidad reflexiva que me gustó, otra cosa que me gustó de la interpretación de Monroe es que consigue retratar a Harker como una mujer asustada e indefensa, pero no es ninguna tonta de hecho es muy capaz, hay una escena en la que está registrando una casa oscura con una pistola y el sonido de su pesada respiración hace que te sientas dentro de la escena con el mismo modo de pensar, miedo y tensión que ella.

Nicolas Cage hace el papel de Longlegs, no es de mis actores favoritos pero la verdad en esta película, a lo bien, parece superarse a sí mismo, es casi imposible saber quién es, ya que está sumamente maquillado con la piel y el cabello blanco y su voz demasiado aguda hace que el personaje sea aún más horrendo y espeluznante de lo que ya es, Cage aparece poco en la película pero cada vez que está en pantalla resulta increíblemente amenazador, hay una toma en la que sólo se ve su perfil al principio da más miedo que cuando se ve la cara completa. El director tiene un gran talento para generar una sensación de terror a través del ambiente en la película con su contraste relativamente bajo de luces, hay muchas escenas en las que Harker parece diminuta en comparación con el fondo y esto la hace ver indefensa, el sonido también es muy bueno con ruidos de fondo y una música que complementa perfectamente los momentos de suspenso.

La película trata algunos temas serios como la familia, la memoria y la tendencia a la violencia, no es un simple caso de un hombre que caza mujeres porque sí,  podria decir que la forma en que la película trata el concepto del trauma y la violencia es bastante interesante. Aun así, no es una película perfecta su ritmo es lento y esa sensación es más notable durante la primera parte de la película. Es más psicológica que gore, por lo que no da el susto que se espera, también hay unos cambios que parecen bastante predecibles y en cuanto a la trama me gustó que parte de ella quedara sin descubrir pero hubo algunos aspectos de la historia que quedaron imprecisos y me hubiera gustado que se explicaran un poco más, en lo personal algo que a mi no me incomoda pero se que la gran mayoria de la gente si y por esto yo no se la recomendaria a nadie que no sepa que tenga el mismo gusto que yo en peliculas.

Otro aspecto que me pareció bien hecho fue la localidad de la película, está ambientada a mediados de los 90 y Perkins hizo un trabajo excelente al captar el escenario, no se trata sólo de la moda o la tecnología, aunque ambas son totalmente exactas, es bastante interesante que haya algo en la atmósfera general de la película que sin duda es de los 90, no hay teléfonos móviles y otras piezas de tecnología moderna y esto hace que Harker se siente aún más sola y en peligro a medida que investiga el caso. Entre los personajes secundarios está Blair Underwood como el agente Carter y Alicia Witt que encaja muy bien como la madre de Harker, es bastante interesante ver que hay cierto conflicto entre los dos personajes principales lo que da algo de intriga a la historia. Kiernan Shipka también tiene una escena importante como superviviente de uno de los ataques de Longlegs y hace una buena actuación.

El final fue agradable y desesperante al mismo tiempo, conecta una serie de hilos que la película ha ido desarrollando desde el inicio además hay un ciclo importante porque la película trata del trauma y la violencia de diferentes generaciones, sin embargo, no da muchas respuestas y en mi opinión éste es uno de los factores que hacen que la película tenga bastante éxito ya que la oscuridad de los significados aporta más atención a la película y hace reflexionar sobre lo que has visto y analizado y te deja con una sensación de lo desconocido, es uno de esos finales que hace que quieras volver a ver la película prestándole atención a cada detalle que se te pudo haber pasado la primera vez. En definitiva me ha parecido una película de terror bastante escalofriante y a la vez interesante, es de esas películas que te hace reflexionar y que permanece en tu mente una vez que ha terminado, Perkins logró crear algo diferente y espeluznante, aunque no totalmente original de lo que suele esperarse en las películas de terror, es una película que vale la pena ver, tiene imágenes y conceptos que son invasivos y tienden a quedarse en la mente y te deja una sensación de malestar, no se si eso es bueno o malo, yo le doy un 7/10.

Longlegs (2024) is a psychological horror movie and is directed by Osgood Perkins, it has raised quite a few expectations and rumors that it caused panic attacks to people but maybe and they are a little exaggerated, often people who are in favor of the movie because they are paid to make a video or review, I decided to watch it and although I was a little skeptical I can say that I did not find it as scary or disturbing as people have made it seem, but it is a good movie and it made me feel uncomfortable even after the movie ended, it is that kind of movie that gets under your skin and leaves you with a bad feeling that does not go away, I would recommend it to anyone who likes suspense movies with a little bit of horror.

The plot is based on the protagonist Lee Harker, an FBI agent, played by Maika Monroe who tries to solve several murders related to the figure of Longlegs. As soon as I saw Monroe, I quite liked her performance, I think she approaches Harker with a certain level of intensity that I think is appropriate for the character. Harker is not like any other hard headed FBI agent, she is quite reserved and has a thoughtful personality which I liked, another thing I liked about Monroe's performance is that she manages to portray Harker as a scared and helpless woman, but she is no fool in fact she is very capable, there is a scene where she is searching a dark house with a gun and the sound of her heavy breathing makes you feel inside the scene with the same mindset, fear and tension as her.

Nicolas Cage plays the role of Longlegs, he is not one of my favorite actors but the truth in this film, to well, he seems to outdo himself, it is almost impossible to tell who he is as he is heavily made up with white skin and hair and his overly high pitched voice makes the character even more horrifying and creepy than he already is, Cage appears little in the film but every time he is on screen he is incredibly menacing, there is one shot where you only see his profile at the beginning it is scarier than when you see the full face. The director has a great talent for generating a sense of dread through the atmosphere in the film with its relatively low contrast of lights, there are many scenes where Harker looks tiny in comparison to the background and this makes her look helpless, the sound is also very good with background noises and music that perfectly complements the suspenseful moments.

The film deals with some serious issues such as family, memory and the tendency to violence, it is not a simple case of a man hunting women for the sake of it, I could say that the way the film deals with the concept of trauma and violence is quite interesting. Still, it's not a perfect movie, its pace is slow and that feeling is more noticeable during the first part of the movie. It is more psychological than gore, so it does not give the scare that is expected, there are also some changes that seem quite predictable and as for the plot I liked that part of it was left undiscovered but there were some aspects of the story that were left vague and I would have liked that they were explained a little more, personally something that does not bother me but I know that the vast majority of people if and for this reason I would not recommend it to anyone who does not know that has the same taste as me in movies.

Another aspect that I thought was well done was the locale of the film, it is set in the mid 90's and Perkins did an excellent job of capturing the setting, it's not just about fashion or technology, although both are totally accurate, interestingly enough there is something about the overall atmosphere of the film that is certainly 90's, there are no cell phones and other pieces of modern technology and this makes Harker feel even more alone and in danger as he investigates the case. The supporting characters include Blair Underwood as Agent Carter and Alicia Witt who fits in nicely as Harker's mother, it's quite interesting to see that there is some conflict between the two main characters which gives some intrigue to the story. Kiernan Shipka also has an important scene as a survivor of one of Longlegs attacks and gives a good performance.

The ending was nice and desperate at the same time, it connects a number of threads that the film has been developing since the beginning plus there is an important cycle because the film deals with trauma and violence of different generations, however, it doesn't give many answers and in my opinion this is one of the factors that make the film quite successful as the darkness of the meanings brings more attention to the film and makes you reflect on what you have seen and analyzed and leaves you with a sense of the unknown, it is one of those endings that makes you want to watch the film again paying attention to every detail that you might have missed the first time. All in all I found it to be a pretty creepy yet interesting horror film, it is one of those films that makes you reflect and stays in your mind once it is over, Perkins managed to create something different and creepy, although not totally original from what is usually expected in horror films, it is a film worth watching, it has images and concepts that are invasive and tend to stay in your mind and leave you with a feeling of unease, I don't know if that is good or bad, I give it a 7/10.

It has been a while since I last saw a more serious thriller or horror film. I'll admit that it's not really my thing to watch more modern entries within these genres. I prefer the more dated, atmospheric feeling of thrillers and horrors, where effects are likely cheap, and the thrills come from the environment and cheesy performances over jump scares and violin s screeching here and there. So it took me a while to decide to check out Longlegs, even though I saw a lot of positive things about it over the last few months. When I took a look at Oz Perkins and his prior works, I definitely am not the audience for the majority of his creations, which also led to me having a little less curiosity over Longlegs. Though his interests definitely pertain to the horror genre, and sooner or later it does make sense that he might finally strike some luck and make something that stands out a little more. Longlegs definitely seems to be the film that leads to his popularity, to which I found myself quite pleasantly surprised by it even from the first few opening scenes. Still, I found myself uncertain as to what I was getting myself into, having ensured I didn't read too much into the film with all the discussions online -- quite a few people have posted reviews on the film here on Hive! That said, it is the Halloween month, after all!

The month of October is one of my favourites in the year, and it's because of the whole fun of the Halloween atmosphere. It's with this that I tend to lean a little more open to the horror and thriller genres in search of new things to watch throughout the month, rather than relying on the same few titles I have seen throughout the years over and over. So, expect me to be posting about quite a few of these horrors and thrillers throughout the month, and maybe even a Movies & TV Shows community contest around Halloween. But hey, this is a review about Longlegs, not just some backstory on my love for Halloween and why I decided to check out a more modern horror despite not being the typical audience for them. So keep in mind that this post from here on may contain some spoilers, though I try to keep major aspects of a film's narrative from these reviews. So, I set things up, and got cozy with some coffee to sit down and watch Longlegs, finally. And this was quiet a fun film, one I didn't expect a whole lot from, nor did I know what to expect for that matter. With some rather interesting cinematography, as well as solid performances that kept the slower nature of the film going forward. Unlike the typical horror genre's titles which tend to lack a bit of the atmosphere and world building.

The first thing that stood out to me in Longlegs is by far its directing. I thoroughly enjoyed the directing which took a more psychological and cinematic look at the narrative. I really liked the use of wider focal lengths that stretched out the perspectives. Which is definitely a bit ironic given the film's title: Longlegs. For the most part the film details a detective and her case against someone named Longlegs, who is famed for killing numerous people throughout the years. The whole Longlegs situation is one that is strange, eerie and pulling us from various uncomfortable situations. Our protagonist works for the FBI in trying to figure out the story behind the killings, to which it soon becomes known that her past is deeply rooted in it. This was no major spoiler, as for it was told to the audience in the very opening scene of the film, in which we see a rather pale looking man in strange whiter clothing talking to a young girl. It's shot in a more horrifying manner to which we don't really see his face for most of the scene, only at the end of it before the scene changes and we get that time jump to the adult FBI agent. But the momentum continues from there.

The directing really gives the film a slow look. A lot of beautifully lit environments, from interiors to exteriors. I loved how it was shot in regards to the lighting. Really beautiful silhouettes and perspectives which had unique compositions. Characters framed in interesting ways, often with some relation to the surroundings. Framing in particular, where a character will be sitting with a genuine square lit frame in front of them. Their head placed directly in the middle. Scenes like this added to the atmosphere of the story, the attempts to solve the case, the dialogue between that showed a genuine attempt to dig deeper into the story rather than having our protagonist constantly in motion. It added more believability to it in how we see others in the FBI talking about the case, holding meetings and sharing intelligence. That kept things grounded with the Longlegs situation, to which we don't really know much more beyond it, aside from a strange language and series of patterns in the killings. I quite liked that build up with Longlegs as a result, it felt a bit similar to that of Seven, in which we don't really see much of the killer until later on. Instead the police chasing the past and present in attempt to find things out.

A great surprise to me was noticing that Longlegs was actually portrayed by Nicolas Cage. A really good performance from him that I really didn't expect. His unsettling look was really good, to which I found his dialogue to be an extra in creating that atmosphere. Particularly when he began to sing songs and act out more theatrical performances that just felt completely off. Especially when the whole idea of birthdays is amplified by him, in a strange way that almost implies a joyful and gentle nature. Something more akin to a clown. Though the makeup didn't go that overboard in his design, to which I also quite liked. Much of the film isn't one that has a whole lot going for it. Its directing is often still, fixed perspectives with the characters framed in the middle. Not a whole lot of movement. It's a film with a more artistic look to it. And for that I definitely enjoyed it a lot more.

Oz Perkins came out of nowhere with this one, and I think he did a great job with it. I can understand why the film received so much attention, because it definitely stands out quite a bit. Though, I feel a more Halloween oriented released would've given it that extra boost in attention.

Para la primera reseña de este Hivelloween, elegí un film el que quería ver desde hace tiempo, un thriller estrenado este año, con elementos de terror e influencia de filmes de los 90'.

The month of October begins which means that my blog has officially started the Hivelloween 24', this is the sixth consecutive year that I make this "festival of reviews of horror films and series" and this year there are many productions to choose from and I hope to choose well not only to enjoy this month that ends with Halloween, but to recommend to all of you productions of this great genre of entertainment. For the first review of this Hivelloween, I chose a film that I wanted to see for a long time, a thriller released this year, with elements of horror and influence of 90's films.

"Longlegs" thriller de horror, considerada como una de las películas más terroríficas del año y por lo cual ha causado grandes expectativas; esta película es dirigida y escrita por Osgood Perkins y en donde seremos testigo de una historia perturbadora enfocada en la vida de "Lee Harker" una joven mujer, agente del FBI quien por su gran intuición es elegida a ser parte de la investigación de una serie de asesinatos ocurridos por años y de los cuales se acusa a un asesino serial solamente conocido como "Longlegs".

"Longlegs" horror thriller, considered one of the most terrifying films of the year and for which has caused great expectations; this film is directed and written by Osgood Perkins and where we will witness a disturbing story focused on the life of "Lee Harker" a young woman, FBI agent who by her great intuition is chosen to be part of the investigation of a series of murders that have occurred for years and of which a serial killer known only as "Longlegs" is accused.

Las expectativas pueden ser una herramienta que ayuda o destruye una producción y creo que no hay un film que en el año me haya creado tanta expectativa como "Longlegs"; hago referencia a esto porque hay que decir que esta película fue nombrada por muchos como la película más aterradora del año, específicamente encasillando como una película netamente de terror, pero la realidad es que a pesar de tener buenos elementos y uso del terror, este es un thriller que se nutre de otras películas como son: "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991) y "Seven" (1995), ambas películas protagonizadas por personajes que son asesinos seriales y una clara imagen de maldad; en esta producción, Perkins hace homenaje a los 90' desde el punto de vista de estos filmes sobre asesinos y de quienes los deben atrapar.

El trabajo del director junto al de Andrés Arochi Tinajero quien realizó la fotografía del film, hace especial este film; desde escenas en dónde posiblemente se cree que hay un espacio innecesario, en mi opinión es un aspecto importante para crear una necesaria tensión de que algo debe ocurrir, a eso, sumo la realización de otros tipos de escenas en dónde los espacios son reducidos y existe una incómoda profundidad, esto lo digo por la vulnerabilidad que se expone la protagonista, sin ninguna oportunidad de sentirse a salvo, nuevamente repito, cada una de esas escenas provee una necesaria y divertida tensión lo cual es de los puntos positivos del film junto a la actuación de sus protagonistas.

Expectations can be a tool that helps or destroys a production and I believe that there is no film in the year that has created me as much expectation as "Longlegs"; I make reference to this because it must be said that this film was named by many as the scariest film of the year, specifically pigeonholing it as a purely horror film, but the reality is that despite having good elements and use of terror, this is a thriller that draws from other films such as: "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991) and "Seven" (1995), both films starring characters who are serial killers and a clear image of evil; in this production, Perkins pays homage to the 90' from the point of view of these films about killers and those who must catch them.

The work of the director together with Andrés Arochi Tinajero who did the cinematography of the film, makes this film special; From scenes where it is possibly believed that there is an unnecessary space, in my opinion it is an important aspect to create a necessary tension that something must happen, to that, I add the realization of other types of scenes where the spaces are reduced and there is an uncomfortable depth, I say this because of the vulnerability that the protagonist is exposed, without any opportunity to feel safe, again I repeat, each of these scenes provides a necessary and fun tension which is the positive points of the film along with the performance of its protagonists.

No hay ninguna duda que Maika Monroe es de las mejores Scream Queens de la actualidad, cada vez más disfruto de sus actuaciones, de como evoluciona sus personajes y en esta oportunidad por su interpretación de "Lee Harker" tiene la oportunidad de mostrar algo diferente, ya que su personaje es perturbado desde el inicio de la historia hasta el final y debo decir que eso no es algo negativo, es todo lo contrario porque "Harker" es una mujer fuerte e inteligente aunque en su vida existe incógnitas que en algún momento deberá descubrir y enfrentar; con respecto a lo que ofrece Nicolas Cage como "Longlegs" es de lo mejor que le he visto a ese actor, la imagen del personaje es terrorífica, la cual relacioné con Elvis Presley en sus últimos años disfrazado de algún cantante de Glam Rock de los 80', pero estoy convencido de que el terror que emana el personaje es por el comportamiento, la voz, la sonrisa y la confianza que proyecta; repito, una de las mejores actuaciones realizadas por Cage.

There is no doubt that Maika Monroe is one of the best Scream Queens nowadays, I enjoy more and more her performances, how she evolves her characters and in this opportunity for her interpretation of "Lee Harker" she has the opportunity to show something different, since her character is disturbed from the beginning of the story until the end and I must say that this is not something negative, it is the opposite because "Harker" is a strong and intelligent woman although in her life there are unknowns that at some point she must discover and face; Regarding what offers Nicolas Cage as "Longlegs" is the best I've seen that actor, the image of the character is terrifying, which I related to Elvis Presley in his later years disguised as a Glam Rock singer of the 80's, but I am convinced that the terror that emanates the character is by the behavior, voice, smile and confidence that projects; I repeat, one of the best performances by Cage.

Sé que hay personas que se sintieron decepcionadas porque Longlegs no ofrece el terror típico de las películas de ahora; me refiero a esa sobreexplotación del jumpsacare o escenas explícitas y gráficas de las muertes y es que se olvida que este thriller usa el horror como un importante elemento, no es un film de terror en sí y en eso la comparo con dos de los mejores thrillers de los 90' en donde se supo dar relevancia al terror causado por sus protagonistas. Este no es un film perfecto porque existen fallos en el argumento de la historia, pero de igual manera Perkins consigue crear un relato terrorífico basado en el asecho de la oscuridad, en la ambigüedad de la luz o lo blanco, en esa necesidad de creer o no en lo sobrenatural, así como la existencia de Dios y el Diablo para dar respuesta a lo que sucede en este mundo, todas esas características son parte de un film intenso, perturbador y de lo mejor que he visto en este año.

I know that there are people who were disappointed because Longlegs does not offer the typical horror of today's movies; I mean that overexploitation of jumpsacare or explicit and graphic scenes of deaths and it is forgotten that this thriller uses horror as an important element, it is not a horror film itself and in that I compare it with two of the best thrillers of the 90's where they knew how to give relevance to the terror caused by its protagonists. This is not a perfect film because there are flaws in the plot of the story, but equally Perkins manages to create a terrifying story based on the lurking darkness, in the ambiguity of light or white, in the need to believe or not in the supernatural, as well as the existence of God and the Devil to answer what happens in this world, all these features are part of an intense, disturbing film and the best I've seen this year.

A Nicolas Cage movie, we take it for granted that it's bad? - I ask because there is a false thinking around this actor that he is not very good at doing his job, that come on, he is a terrible actor. I guess those people never saw “Lord of War”, to give an example, and the reality is that Cage is far from being as bad as they want to make him look, that some of his movies have not been as expected, is another thing. In Longlegs we will see him in a different facet, embodying a very visible deranged serial killer with a truly creepy appearance. A horror film with hints of a psychological thriller which is based on a real event, not to the letter, but in its main idea.

There is a “famous” murder which is the case of JonBenét Ramsey, there are documentaries of this out there, who was a little girl who was found murdered in the basement of her house. But of course, the element that ties this story to the film is that this girl was given a life-size doll identical to her, this then being the main element and driving force behind Longlegs. Here we have Lee Harker (Maika Monroe), a promising FBI agent, surprisingly very intuitive and dedicated to her job. She is called in to join the team investigating a series of murders that have been going on for years and have been impossible to put an end to. The cases are really strange because according to the clues the killer has never been located at the crime scenes, so how does he kill?

As the case progresses, everything begins to become darker and more sinister as evidence emerges that something satanic may be behind everything. And if that were not enough, Lee will also realize that there is a link or a personal connection with this murderer, so the anguish increases and the need to solve the case becomes more and more evident. When we see this film it is impossible not to take the references or the similes that there are with other films, I do not say that they are the copy but if elements or winks to other classics of the genre and I refer to “The Silence of the Innocents” and by the theme of the letters that this murderer leaves as evidence of his actions: “Zodiac”. If you saw this pair of movies you can more or less intuit where the roles go although I repeat, they are not similar.

Whenever I talk about horror I always comment that lately, and this is a very personal opinion, I feel that this genre has been vindicated a little after a few years in decline and it is that a couple of years ago we have seen really decent films. Longlegs is a movie that might scare you if you are not prepared, it has something paranormal in the atmosphere that makes the vibe heavy but it also has the human factor of evil and how deranged and dangerous a person can be. Director Oz Perkins, who is not new to this genre, focuses a lot on the emotional theme and what he can convey with the scenes and the mystery he creates, hence the “fear” it can generate. But this does not limit him to use gore and the necessary amounts of blood to give it the special touch that is always needed in this kind of films.

The plot is very good because it all starts as a simple FBI-led investigation of a serial killer and then descends into an exploration of what evil is and how it can lead people to commit brutalities and be extremely violent and cruel. It's a strange duality but one that is extremely common and overall works very well. The film is raw and twisted, everything you could ask for to be effective. And it is so because of Longlegs' nature, because of what he is capable of and the control he can have over others. The most striking scenes are very well done, there is a lot of tension in them and it shows; the cinematography is top, the photography, the color palette that evokes the classics of the 70-80's, everything that means terror is in this film.

Nicolas Cage plays this man, a weird, creepy guy with an amazing ability to get into people's minds. His performance is good, it's complicated to play this role and I think he approached it quite well, here we didn't see the bad actor that many say he is. On the other hand, Maika Monroe, who is not new in the genre either, also breaks it here. A character with an immense weight on her shoulders and despite that she keeps going, we can see a lot of drama and horror, personally I really liked her work.

A movie that mixes a little bit of everything: devil cults, suspense, gore, blood, a lot of tension for being a psychological thriller; in short, it's a complete package. I give it a 7.5/10. It's worth watching, it's a good horror film. If you like the genre, I recommend it. It's short, it lasts a little over an hour and a half.

  Saludos comunidad de @cinetv. Estoy de nuevo por aquí para compartirles mi opinión sobre un film de terror que vi anoche llamado LONGLEGS. Y pues, básicamente le di una oportunidad por su trama y también al saber que trabajaba el grandioso Nicolas Cage. Así que sírvete un cafecito o te, y disfruta de estas líneas que escribí sobre la película, sin dar spoilers.

  Esta película se estrenó este año y me sorprendí mucho al ver que uno de sus protagonistas era Nicolas Cage. Así como también participó como productor de la misma. Y bueno la trama en sí gira en torno a una detective del FBI que investiga el caso de un asesino en serie conocido como Longlegs.

  Este suele asesinar familias enteras cuyas hijas cumplen años en días específicos del mes y además de esto, la trama denota temas de posesión demoníaca y ocultismo. Para mí, este tema de terror suele ser mi favorito en todos los aspectos, sin embargo, en este caso, hubo algunas cosas que me gustaron mucho y otras la verdad no tanto.

  Yo soy muy fan y admiradora de Nicolas Cage desde que era niña, siempre me gustaron todas sus películas, tanto por la trama, pero más que todo por su actuación en ellas. Sin embargo, después de tantos años inactivo, él está retomando nuevamente el mundo cinematográfico pero esta vez, a mi parecer, ha decaído en cuanto a calidad actoral, así como trabajar en películas de bajo presupuesto.

  La verdad, desconozco las razones de esto, no sé si fue el abuso que tuvo de las drogas o el alcohol, pero el hecho es que desde entonces no es el mismo y se ha querido reinventar intentando trabajar en diferentes proyectos cinematográficos. Así que sabiendo esto de antemano, esta película Longlegs la vi sin tener altas expectativas ni esperar nada bueno.

  Esto hizo que me llevara un par de sorpresas que me gustaron mucho de su película y de la trama. Entre ellas resaltan en primera instancia la actuación protagónica de la actriz Maika Monroe, quien ha trabajado en películas que han resultado ser más entretenidas que memorables.

  Como el film llamado La Quinta Ola con Chloë Grace Moretz, donde trabajó como personaje secundario y la verdad no la recuerdo, además de que esa película tampoco me resultó muy buena. Pero el hecho es que en Longlegs, Maika resaltó desde un principio hasta el final.

  Otro aspecto que me gustó bastante de este film fue el toque antiguo que le hicieron a las imágenes y a la filmación en sí, con toques de estilo clásico del cine de terror que la verdad le dan un plus interesante a la trama y el desarrollo de la historia.

  En cuanto al tema demoniaco desglosado en la historia, pienso que pudieron hacer algo mejor, es decir, desarrollarlo más terroríficamente o con más suspenso. El final me pareció como una burla y fue lo que no me gustó. Así como tampoco me gustó el mal maquillaje que le hicieron a Nicolas Cage, es decir, a leguas se notaba que era una máscara hecha de prótesis mal colocadas.

  En cuanto a la actuación de Cage debo decir que estuvo bien, no fue genial ni destacable, sólo bien, como si su esfuerzo no fuera hecho con mucho entusiasmo, por lo que pienso que pudo conectar más con su lado psicópata y mostrar toques más extravagantes, pero dentro de todo, hizo un buen trabajo y me alegré al verlo de vuelta.

  Así que, si te gusta este tipo de género del terror, con toques más psicológicos que de miedo, así como también si eres muy fan de este gran actor, te invito a que le des una oportunidad. De mi parte la recomiendo y le otorgo unas 4 de 5 Estrellitas Doradas por hacer una película bastante entretenida e intrigante a nivel general:

  Greetings @cinetv community. I'm here again to share with you my opinion about a horror film I saw last night called LONGLEGS. And well, I basically gave it a chance because of its plot and also knowing that the great Nicolas Cage was working in it. So pour yourself a cup of coffee or tea, and enjoy these lines I wrote about the movie, without spoilers.

  This movie was released this year and I was very surprised to see that one of its protagonists was Nicolas Cage. As well as he also participated as a producer of it. And well the plot itself revolves around an FBI detective investigating the case of a serial killer known as Longlegs.

  This one usually murders entire families whose daughters have birthdays on specific days of the month and in addition to this, the plot denotes themes of demonic possession and the occult. For me, this horror theme is usually my favorite in all aspects, however, in this case, there were some things I really liked and others not so much.

  I have been a big fan and admirer of Nicolas Cage since I was a child, I always liked all his movies, both for the plot, but mostly for his acting in them. However, after so many years of inactivity, he is returning again to the film world but this time, in my opinion, he has declined in terms of acting quality, as well as working in low budget films.

  The truth, I don't know the reasons for this, I don't know if it was the abuse he had of drugs or alcohol, but the fact is that since then he is not the same and has wanted to reinvent himself trying to work in different film projects. So knowing this beforehand, I watched this movie Longlegs without having high expectations or expecting anything good.

  This led me to a couple of surprises that I really liked about the film and the plot. Among them, first of all, the starring performance of the actress Maika Monroe, who has worked on films that have turned out to be more entertaining than memorable.

  Like the film called The Fifth Wave with Chloë Grace Moretz, where she worked as a supporting character and I don't really remember her, plus I didn't think that film was very good either. But the fact is that in Longlegs, Maika stood out from the beginning to the end.

  Another aspect that I liked a lot about this film was the antique touch that they gave to the images and the filming itself, with touches of classic horror film style that really give an interesting plus to the plot and the development of the story.

  As for the demonic theme broken down in the story, I think they could have done something better, i.e. developed it more terrifyingly or with more suspense. The ending seemed like a mockery to me and that's what I didn't like. I also didn't like the bad make-up they did on Nicolas Cage, I mean, you could tell he was a mask made of badly placed prosthetics.

  As for Cage's performance I must say it was okay, not great or outstanding, just okay, as if his effort wasn't done with much enthusiasm, so I think he could have connected more with his psychopathic side and showed more extravagant touches, but within everything, he did a good job and I was glad to see him back.

  So, if you like this kind of horror genre, with more psychological than scary touches, as well as if you are a big fan of this great actor, I invite you to give it a chance. For my part, I recommend it and I give it a 4 out of 5 Little Golden Stars for making a very entertaining and intriguing movie in general:

Longlegs is a film that puts a premium on atmosphere and brilliantly detailed cinematography.

It takes the viewer in the car and goes on the most twisted journey anyone can think of.

The atmosphere here is present from the first seconds, the mystery is combined with the problematic past and the madness that takes place around.

The atmosphere brings to mind, cinema like the brilliant film Censor , where the viewer is not sure what he is just watching in this psychedelic ride without holding.

The camera work and the choice of landscapes is a small masterpiece.

The lens changes once to the quality of the 70s to return to the present after a while (the action takes place in the 90s).

The close-ups and the portrayal of faces in a rather interesting way are reminiscent of horror films from that period.

The camera work while the heroine is doing something came out brilliantly.

Watching all the time I was looking to see if something was lurking behind the protagonist and fell into more madness.

The camera is positioned in such a way as to always give that strange impression that there is someone else present besides our protagonist.

It's time for the plot, and it's quite interesting although towards the end it starts to fall apart a bit.

In a small town, families commit a mass murder on each other, the only clue is a mysterious letter written in cipher and signed LONGLEGS.

The case is being investigated by young FBI agent Lee Harker, who recently lost her partner in the line of duty. While at first there is not much evidence, and those that are there are clues that lead to nothing, as time goes by the agent discovers more and more although it will not be a simple mystery. A crazed psychopath is always attacking 14-year-old girls and driving their families crazy.

Lee must hurry to save a certain family from the madness that is about to begin

The character of LONGLEGS is played by Nicolas Cage and it is the most terrifying character.

Every scene when the antagonist appears is a veritable frenzy on the screen. Full psychedelia to give horror to the whole thing and it works mega well. Nicolas plays the character so strongly that it's shocking. Nick has had some lousy movies, but when he gets a good director and script he can pull the best out of the role. His Longlegs is a cranky guy who becomes more and more dangerous to his cellar master with each passing second.

As I mentioned earlier it also has the worse moment of this film, namely, the finale, which is kind of tacked on, it lacked for me a more logical outcome than what was shown although let's remember this is a horror film so it has the right to go differently than a typical detective story.

Nonetheless, the finale lacked that bump that would have made it the best work yet, nevertheless it's a great neck-holding piece of cinema that only lets go of the embrace in the finale 8/10

Praca kamery oraz wybranie krajobrazów to małe dzieło.

Obiektyw się zmienia raz na na jakość z lat 70 by po chwili wrócić do teraźniejszości (akcja dzieje się w latach 90). Przybliżenia oraz ukazywanie twarzy w dosyć ciekawy sposób przywodzi horrory z tego okresu. Praca kamery w czasie kiedy bohaterka coś robi wyszło genialnie. Oglądając cały czas spoglądałem czy coś się nie czai za bohaterka i popadałem w większy obłęd.

Kamera jest tak ulokowana by zawsze dawać to dziwne wrażenie, ze prócz naszej protagonistki jest ktoś jeszcze obecny.

Pora na fabule, a jest ona dosyć ciekawa choć pod koniec trochę się zaczyna sypać.

W małym miasteczku, rodziny dokonują zbiorowego morderstwa na sobie, jedyna poszlaka to tajemniczy list napisany szyfrem i podpisany LONGLEGS.

Sprawę bada młoda agentka FBI Lee Harker, która niedawno straciła partnera w czasie służby. O ile na początku nie ma wiele dowodów, a te które są to są poszlaki, które prowadzą do niczego, tak z czasem agentka coraz więcej odkrywa choć nie będzie to zwykła zagadka. Szalony psychopata atakuje zawsze 14 letnie dziewczynki, a rodziny ich doprowadza do szaleństwa. Lee musi się pospieszyć by uratować pewna rodzine od szaleństwa jakie niedługo się rozpocznie

Postać LONGLEGS grana jest przez Nicolasa Cage’a i to jest najbardziej przerażająca postać. Każda scena kiedy pojawia się antagonista to istne szaleństwo na ekranie. Pełna psychodelia, która ma nadać grozy całości i sprawdza się to mega dobrze. Nicolas tak mocno wczuwa się w ta postać, ze aż jest to szokujące. Nick miewa kiepskie filmy, ale jak już trafi na dobrego reżysera i scenariusz to potrafi wyrwać z roli wszystko co najlepsze. Jego Longlegs jest podstarzały gość który z każda sekunda staje się coraz bardziej niebezpieczny dla swego Pana z Piwnicy

Jak wspomniałem wcześniej miewa tez gorszy moment ten film, a mianowicie, finał, który jest taki jakiś doklejony, brakowało mi w nim bardziej logicznego skutku niż to co zostało ukazane choć pamietajmy to horror wiec ma prawo inaczej iść niż typowy kryminał.

Niemniej jednak w finale zabrakło tego tąpnięcia, które by spowodowało, ze było by to najlepsze dzieło, niemniej jest to świetne trzymające za szyje kino, które dopiero puszcza uścisk w finale 8/10

Last night I had the time to watch Longlegs (2024) a new psychological horror movie written and directed by Osgood Perkins, this movie has been generating a lot of hype since its sneak peeks in early this year with some people claiming it to be one of the most horrifying films ever although for me the 2024 Horror Queen is still The First Omen (2024?). Despite the fact that I don’t believe that Longlegs is as terrifying as it was described to be as the pure evil itself or as a film that can cause panic attacks, it is still a very good and rather disturbing film that left a lasting impression on me. The plot is based on FBI agent Lee Harker who tries to solve a series of murders of families that have some connection with a certain character called Longlegs, the story gets more complicated as Harker delves further into the case and discovers that there is more to the events that she is investigating than what she could ever imagine. Thanks to the mysterious atmosphere, unique visuals and strong performances of Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage, Longlegs presents a chilling take on the topics of family, memory, and violence’s recurrence. It isn’t a masterpiece but it is a brave and striking film of the psychological horror sub genre that will be hard to forget, in my opinion in the top five horror movie of the year.

A Slow Burn Atmosphere

I was amazed to see how Perkins manipulates the audience with such techniques as slow zoom, off centered framing and creepy moving shots which make Harker look like he is being dragged towards the target or evil. The sounds been use during the movie are particularly awesome taking in consideration the background noises and the short music clips been used to create and intensify the tension on the scene. Although there are several gory scenes that are more than enough to make the skin crawl, the movie’s horror comes from the general feeling that something is just not right and that evil is present in every scene.

Strong Performances Solidify the Story

Nicolas Cage plays the role of the enigmatic Longlegs and the latter looks quite eerie in this guise. Cage looks an entirely different person, with his white face, scraggly hair, and a voice that sounds like it comes from a haunted character. Although he is not in the film much, Cage does not waste any of the time he has on screen by being incredibly ominous. There is a lot of tension between Monroe and Cage’s characters.

The secondary characters are also good with Alicia Witt doing a good job as Harker’s religious mother Ruth and Blair Underwood as Ruth’s FBI superior. The audience does not only get a feeling that even secondary characters are developed, which enriches the movie’s universe.

Exploring Dark Themes

There is also a certain focus on the theme of faith and religion, with Harker’s mother being a religious woman while Longlegs is connected with the devil, it is possible to note that the movie shows that blind faith can be used as a way to cover up or even justify some awful actions.

I liked that the movie does not explain everything, there are some questions that remain unanswered which is good, gives you more to think about the movie once its over, this can be quite annoying to some people but this is entertaining so not everyone will have the same perception, I'm sure there is even a part of the audience who did not like the movie at all.

What Worked for Audiences

The visuals and the setting of the movie were praised a lot as they really captured the atmosphere and the time period of the story, this were just some of the positives that I could found within a couple of small reviews on sites like IMDB or RTT.

What Didn't Work as Well

There were also some complaints that the movie does not go all the way in terms of its more fantastic or paranormal aspects, certain viewers noted that the final scenes which included a lot of display spoiled the dreamlike feeling that was established throughout the movie.

Nicolas Cage's Memorable Turn

Cage seemed to have given his all to the role and many critics applauded him for that, as he develop a rather odd and creepy character with some of the best moments of the film are when he shares screen space with Maika Monroe and the chemistry between them is filled with tension and suspense, another aspect that I enjoy about the movie how they seem to work very well, something you can only start to feel once you have a seen a lot of bad and good movies. Even though Longlegs won’t be remembered as Cage’s best acting it has to be one of the most convincing and disturbing performances, in a good way.

This is not a film for everyone because at times it is gory and wont scare will only make you uncomfortable, the slow and rather ambiguous plot may annoy those who are seeking for action and clear plot, but for those who are ready to dive into the nightmare that is the film will find a lot to think about and discuss after the movie.

I watched my 28th movie so far this year which was Longlegs. I highly anticipated watching this one not knowing much about it aside from the fact that Nicolas Cage was in it as that it was a serial killer horror type movie. It got some good reviews and was said to be very unsetteling at times so I went in with high expectations but without assuming it would come cose to my favorites in the genre like It Follows, Talk To Me, ...

Without spoiling anything, it was a movie I had mixed feelings around as It took a turn over the halfway point of being supernatural while nearly the entire first 2 acts set up more like a realistic story with only a small nudge as some supernatural aspects. If I had known upfront that the entire plotline was going to be centered around something that isn't realistic like most other horror movies, I would have had less of an issue with it. It's the reason also why I really dislike The Green Mile movie as I have issues with setups where something looks to be based on things that could happen and all of a sudden there are supernatural elements. This said, I still appreciate what the movie tried to do and there were plenty of moments where it really was uncomfortable to watch with very smart camera angles. So this movie in a way was the worst of both worlds as I prefer to watch something like Se7ven in the serial killer type or It Follows in the horror movie type. This said, I still think it was ok and well made.

Aside from this on Friday with no football match in the evening I didn't really do that much and skipped on a hot yoga class again while somewhat binge eating in the early evening. The one good thing is that I did once again get well over 10k steps for the day

The cinematography was beautiful and I liked that it didn't take easy calls like that, it was more tense to just have it be this big empty abyss. What won more points is there were subtle hidden things like the Baphomet that's constantly following her - I asked my brother if he saw it but because he was so out of it he missed it completely. If they had cut straight after Nick Cage killed himself in the police station, I think it would have been at least 10x better without the exposition dump from the mother. Literally everything but the story was a win for me. Not every scary movie has to be a jump-at-you scary movie. Ambiance scary movies or creepy movies are cool too. Longlegs wasn’t scary in the sense that it shocks your senses, but it’s more like a slow creeping sense of dread… like it’s giving me anxiety more than fear lol.

The first 75% was such a banger, the opening was amazing, the cinematography was so good. I think I held my breath for like 90% of the movie. It was so eerie and creepy and nonsensical, it really put us in Harker’s POV.

Cage was incredible. I loved the absolute chaos of his performance and character. I think when someone is that unhinged and insane it’s truly terrifying because there’s barely any motive or method to their insanity. I kept seeing things moving in the background! And the red eyes on one of the dolls?!?! It kept fading in and out and it was so creepy.

I might be in the minority but I liked the satanic plotline, I think too many movies tease us with demons and satanic stuff then change it and say “oh it actually wasn’t paranormal at all”. So I liked that this movie leaned all the way into it and even created their own little mythos with Mr Downstairs. I liked when we didn’t see the inside of the mom’s locked room, just the horns of a statue.

And I'm about 98% certain that they used some of the sound blasts (idk how else to describe them) from the opening title crawl of the shining!!! I literally had goosebumps.

There are already multiple reviews online from screens that recently took place, from the description of some of this reviews I have to say that for 2024 my theory about horror movies has been confirm, directors seem to have scratch out the jump scare scenes, full on gore and went with something more suttle, after all with this style they can have a larger reach and put more eye balls in front of the screen, number go up. Longlegs (2024) has generated significant skepticism among critics and audiences alike. Directed by Osgood Perkins, the film stars Nicolas Cage, Maika Monroe, Alicia Witt, and Blair Underwood, the story follows FBI Agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) as she investigates a series of occult-related murders committed by the elusive serial killer known as Longlegs (Nicolas Cage). The case takes a personal turn when Harker discovers a connection between herself and the killer, forcing her to delve deeper into the dark world of the occult to prevent further tragedy.

There has been a lot of hype around this movie making critics and audience skeptic of what they could get out of it, to a certain degree I find the marketing strategy void since there is not much context although keeping the mystery is part of it. For example they never really show Nicolas Cage going at it, they did show some of his work, his victims. Not showing on screen the serial killer keeps the audience in suspense.

A visual and mood aspect has been pointed out as the factors that have made the film seem rather creepy, it has also been pointed out that the film’s themes of occult has also played a part in the movie as well as the attempt to discover the supernatural. Nicolas Cage’s portrayal of Longlegs is incredibly erratic and menacing, which is one of the film’s strong points, while Maika Monroe, who plays Agent Harker, is fragile yet willful.
