My opinion about the film Lou@ismaca782d

Lou is the typical film you want to see when you don't really feel like thinking or eating, when you are looking for pure entertainment and action to keep you awake.

The plot is very interesting, as the story progresses between Lou, his dog, his neighbour and his daughter, we discover very interesting things that affect them all.

I really like these stories that depict characters who are isolated, socially limited, with bad personalities and who often live far away from the world.

It was very important that many of the scenes were shot outdoors, as she often played another character in the plot.

The film has an interesting, exciting and rhythmic plot in 2/3 minutes of shooting, so the truth is that it gets a bit boring, tiring and very predictable, even if they wanted to introduce many twists and turns in the film.

I loved the performances, Allison Janney was amazing, she dressed up as the main character and pulled it off perfectly. Jurnee Smollett not only played her part, she believed in her role.

And young Ridley Asha Bateman convinced me that photographing with children is not easy.

Hello friends, welcome to my blog, a few days ago I saw this movie "LOU", because I love to see Allison Janney, an actress with a great career in TV and film, winner of an Oscar for best supporting actress, Emmys among other film and TV awards. The role that put her in the spotlight and made her recognized was in the series "The West Wing", where she played the press secretary of the president of the USA. I like to see her for her versatility of roles, how she moves from comedy to drama and this time she combines drama with action in this new Netflix movie. Directed by Anna Foerster, this film brings us a story full of surprises and twists where we will see Janney together with Jurnee Smollett, unite to fight together for what they love.

Hola amigos, bienvenidos a mi blog, hace pocos días vi esta película “LOU”, porque me encanta ver actuar a Allison Janney, una actriz con una gran trayectoria en la TV y cine, ganadora de un Oscar como mejor actriz de reparto, Emmys entre otros premios del cine y TV. El papel que la puso en el tapete y la hizo reconocida fue en la serie “The West Wing”, donde interpretaba a la secretaria de prensa del presidente de USA. Me gusta verla por su versatilidad de papeles, como pasa de la comedia al drama y esta vez combina el drama con la acción en esta nueva película de Netflix. Dirigida por Anna Foerster, esta cinta nos trae una historia llena de sorpresas y giros en donde veremos a Janney junto a Jurnee Smollett, unirse para luchar juntas por lo que aman.

Obviously, you can read at your leisure because I will not make spoilers in my post, I will only tell you about my impressions of the film and what I found when I saw it. So to start I must say that Janney's transformation, in this role, impressed me because I come from watching her in the series "Mom", where her black humor and craziness made me laugh, in this role we see a lonely, almost hermit and bitter woman who leads a routine and boring life, her only interaction is with her neighbor to whom she rents her house and it is minimal. At first glance we see that Lou doesn't care about people and only lives for herself. Everything takes a turn for her when an unexpected event makes her react.

Obviamente, puedes leer con tranquilidad porque no haré spoiler en mí post, solo les hablaré de mis impresiones con respecto a la película y lo que me ha parecido al verla. Así que para empezar debo decir que la transformación de Janney, es este papel, me impresiono porque vengo de verla de la serie “Mom”, es donde su humor negro y locuras me hacían reír, en este papel vemos a una mujer solitaria, casi ermitaña y amargada que lleva una vida rutinaria y aburrida, su única interacción es con su vecina a quien le alquila su casa y es mínima. A primeras vistas vemos que Lou, no le importa las personas y solo vive para ella. Todo da un giro para ella cuando inesperadamente un acontecimiento la hace reaccionar.

When her neighbor, Hanna (Jurnee), asks for her help, a series of events begins that will test both women and bring the past back to Lou. The film has a good pace and everything flows fast, it has good action scenes without being spectacular, something I liked because it makes it believable for the character. While things are happening there are flashbacks that place us in the past to understand a little of what is happening and why everything is happening. Here I think the script lacked more depth because the story was left with questions about what happened in Lou's past. The same happens with Hanna, I think that aspects of her past were left with questions and that with a little more depth the story would have been better.

Cuando su vecina, Hanna (Jurnee), le pide ayuda, comienza una serie de acontecimientos que podrán a prueba a ambas mujeres y traerá el pasado a Lou, devuelta. La cinta tiene buen ritmo y todo fluye rápido, tiene escenas de acción buenas sin ser espectaculares, algo que me gusto porque lo hace creíble para el personaje. Mientras van pasando las cosas hay flashback que nos ubica en el pasado para entender un poco lo que está pasando y el por qué de todo. Acá creo que le falto al guion profundizar más porque la historia quedo con interrogantes en lo que paso en el pasado de Lou. Con Hanna sucede igual, considero que quedaron aspectos de su pasado con interrogantes y que con un poco más de profundidad la historia hubieses sido mejor.

The negative aspects for me is that the main characters did not tell their whole story that led them to be in this dilemma, however the twists and surprises throughout the film are interesting and keep the viewer attentive. That said, for me the film is entertaining, has good scenes, interesting plot twists and has a good ending, leaving open the possibility of a sequel. I liked it, although it's not a film I would watch more than once, for me it's a 7/10.

Los aspectos negativos para mí es que los personajes principales no contaron toda su historia que los llevo a estar en ese dilema, a pesar de ello los giros y sorpresas a lo largo de la cinta son interesantes y mantienen al espectador atento. Dicho esto, para mí la cinta es entretenida, tiene buenas escenas, giros argumentativos interesantes y tiene un buen final, dejando abierta la posibilidad de una secuela. Me gusto, aunque no es una cinta que vería más de una vez, para mí en un 7/10.

Lou, it's a movie that turned a thousand schemes, here I make a clarification and that anyone who wants to see this film, I recommend you not to read this review. If you have no idea what it's about, go ahead, but I warn that I will pass data that may be disappointing if you love the intrigue and then decide to see it.

Lou, the film that is available on Netflix and was released in September of this same year (2022), gathers several characteristics that I like in a movie: mystery, adventure, action, nature, particular lives, movie length equal to or less than two hours, clarity in the plot.

Although in some aspect I noticed it somewhat "linear", that is, there could have been some other character, something more complex, a parallel secondary story, it managed to catch me because in fact, there are secrets in the story.

In addition, it gives us an interesting perspective on this relationship that can be insincere between mother and son, and makes it very clear how beyond a truncated, hurt bond, there can be unconditional love for future bonds, as it happens with Lou's granddaughter and daughter-in-law.

By the presentation, I was expecting to like this movie and I did!!!! Happy about that, as it's not something that always happens to me!.

Lou, es una película que me dio vuelta mil esquemas, aquí hago una aclaración y que quien quiera ver este film, le recomiendo no leer esta reseña. Si no tienes idea de qué se trata, adelante, pero aviso que pasaré datos que pueden resultarte decepcionantes si te encanta la intriga y luego decides verla.

Lou, el film que está disponible en Netflix y que fue estrenado en septiembre de este mismo año (2022), reúne varias características que me gustan en una película: misterio, aventura, acción, naturaleza, vidas particulares, duración de la película igual o menor a dos horas, claridad en la trama.

Aunque en algún aspecto la noté algo “lineal”, es decir, podría haber habido algún otro personaje, algo más complejo, una historia secundaria paralela, logró atraparme porque de hecho, hay secretos en la historia.

Además, nos ofrece una interesante perspectiva de esta relación que puede resultar poco sincera entre madre e hijo, y deja muy en claro cómo más allá de un vínculo truncado, lastimado, puede haber un amor incondicional por vínculos futuros, como ocurre con la nieta y nuera de Lou.

Por la presentación, esperaba que esta película me gustara y así fue!! Feliz por eso, ya que no es algo que me ocurra siempre!

Lo que más me gusta de esta película, más allá de que transcurre entre bosques y montañas, es que hay de fondo una historia oculta, y es que Lou (Allyson Janney) resulta ser la abuela de Vee (Ridley Asha Bateman), una niña secuestrada por un hombre en teoría desconocido, pero… ¿lo es, o en verdad es más cercano de lo que todos creen?

La historia nos presenta a Lou como una ejemplar y excelente espía de la CIA, ella misma se muestra así, por lo que en su vida y profesión ha dado todos los pasos necesarios, especialmente en su carrera para destacar. This movie reminded me of the film "Run", a story where an obsessed mother molds her daughter to "handicap" her. Complex, but it also refers to this a priori sacred relationship, which sometimes ends up destroying the very integrity of the person. Its concept also bears some similarity to the one addressed by the Spanish series "Sagrada Familia", which I recently reviewed.

Esta película me recordó al film “Run”, una historia en donde una madre obsesionada moldea a su hija para “discapacitarla”. Compleja, pero que también hace referencia a esta relación a priori sagrada, que a veces termina por destruir la propia integridad de la persona. The film industry keeps expanding with every day that passes, and there's always one new film around the corner. However, it is only a few that make it to the top. It may take a lot for a film to get to the top, or it may just take a few clicks of some buttons to place it there.

Netflix, as I have come to know them, somehow has movies that their presence at the top is questionable. Or it may just be that I am just a weirdo or that the majority of their audience seem to be very different (of course they are).

This makes me sceptical about picking some films from their catalogues. But oh well, I sure will make a choice eventually.

I picked Lou because I felt a sense of inclination as I read that it was an action-thriller film with women as the main roles. I became interested, not that I think women cannot deliver, but because it's quite rare to find such movies surfacing to be at the top.

I did not set many expectations other than to see something worthwhile as an hour and forty minutes is no child's play. I guess we all feel that way about movies; we hope to not be disappointed.

Anyway, I felt a plethora of emotions after seeing the whole film. My thoughts were vague as I was not sure what to say about this film. But, either way, we'll get there...

𝔸𝔹𝕆𝕌𝕋 𝕋ℍ𝔼 𝕄𝕆𝕍𝕀𝔼

Lou is a former spy for the CIA who lives with her dog in a village on an island in Washington. All by herself, she lives a life of seclusion with minimal interaction with the outside world. Hannah, a tenant of her's, lives just in the vicinity of where she resides, only checking in once a while as deemed necessary.

Hannah, being a widow to a green beret who has been declared dead owing to a fire explosion, lives with only her daughter, Vee. Together, they try to live happily. However, Vee thinks her father is on an adventure and is on his way back.

The storm arrives, and Vee is kidnapped by a sociopath. As they are all on the island, he flees with her on food through the woods. Lou, being a retired valiant soldier, offers to help track and find the kidnapper and rescue Vee.

It turns out, however, that the sociopath is the presumed dead husband of Hannah. And as the story unfolds, more and more secrets linking Lou, Hannah, and the sociopath are revealed.

The film opens with an establishment of Lou's type of person. It does this by showing her "bad ass" side as she kills a deer, walks into a bank to withdraw all her funds, and then sends a letter to someone unknown about selling her house, all while not giving a tiny smile.

This clearly was done to enable the film's audience to easily accept any kind of "bad guy" move that would make up for a somewhat classic action movie. Other elements of the film begin to kick in not-soon-enough and then we have more of the thriller side of the story presenting itself.

The film depicts the crazy things sociopaths can do just to achieve whatever it is they desire. There are extreme lengths to which they will go, and this never sits well with the victims. It is even crazier when the social path is some green beret.

Alongside that, it shows to what effect bad parenting can cause unprecedented damage in the future. We then see attempts to right wrongs and a theme centered upon "life gives second chances."

All I hoped to find in this film was something that could keep my eyes open and keep me on edge, as that is what "thriller" films are believed to have good effects for. I, however, found the movie quite different from my expectations.

sᴛᴏʀʏʟɪɴᴇ

The fundamental idea I have about thriller films is that I should feel the thrills (duhh...), chills, and excitement that are intended. If this fails in a film, then what we have is "not" a thriller film but some film mistaken for it.

What I mean to say is, "Please, for the love of the industry, do not be predictable." I do not want to be able to know that a character is going to take a left turn with a vehicle heading towards a tree. _{(You get??).} The element of surprise should not be lacking.

There was supposed to be a plot twist in the film, as most thriller films do have, but when the time for the unvealing of the "twist" came, I found myself concurrently stating the twist as it happened. It was more like a "Why am I not surprised?" moment for me.

Scripting, for me, is where they must have missed it. This film has a runtime of 1 hour 49 minutes and for most of it, I felt like "Okay... where are we going with this? It's taking quite a while. " And this is because there were so many instances where I felt nothing was going on, for too long!

For a crazy build up, you would think... but when an intense scene finally arrives, it all dies down too quickly and we are back to square one.

ᴄɪɴᴇᴍᴀᴛᴏɢʀᴀᴘʜʏ

I love to see excellent cinematography. I rarely miss the brilliance in the execution of lighting, camera angles and movements, and the use of appropriate visual effects.

So, personally, when there's nothing quite fascinating with the whole cinematography, the whole film may just "taste" less than it should. Of course, low cinematography may be required in some films. But there should be other elements that'll make up for it; a good storyline, for example.

The whole motion picture in this film was basically mundane for me. It was all too little delivered if you look at it from the "action" point of view. However, it sufficed enough to tell the story well.

ᴀᴄᴛɪɴɢ

Everyone seeing the film most definitely has eyes. And those eyes will be able to pick up most of the emotions they encounter in a movie. If it then does not correlate with the "situation" we should have at hand, then we have a problem with the acting somewhere.

The job of every actor is to sell the character to their audience. With this done effectively, the story to be told may as well hit differently than intended as there is a character flaw. If we do find an excellent portrayal of a character, the depiction of the story being told will be as it should be.

I was eager to finish this film after seeing Jurnee Smollett. This is because I loved her performance in the last film I saw her in, Spiderhead.

Her performance in this film, like her performance in Spiderhead, is outstanding. She excellently played a distressed mother who's willing to go to any lengths to save her daughter who has been kidnapped.

I'd like to commend the work of Allison Janney, who delivered so well in the role of a "bad-ass" woman that's tougher than most men.

This film has two distinct audiences: those who will enjoy it and those who will not. This would be due to the diverse tastes in film that we have everywhere.

The movie ends in a way that suggests the possibility of a sequel. This was not much of a surprise as the majority of the film had much of that "predictable" feel to it.

If there ever is a sequel to this film, I might as well just skip it. If it ever comes out, I'm sure there will be some other amazing thrillers to check out. But like I have said, there are many people with different tastes in films. You might as well want to check it out for yourself.

Meanwhile, I'd be giving the film a rating of...

Netflix, tal y como los he conocido, tiene de alguna manera películas que su presencia en el top es cuestionable. O puede ser simplemente que yo sea un bicho raro o que la mayoría de su público parezca ser muy diferente (por supuesto que sí).

Esto me hace ser escéptico a la hora de elegir algunas películas de sus catálogos. Pero bueno, seguro que al final haré una elección.

Elegí Lou porque sentí una inclinación al leer que era una película de acción y suspense con mujeres como protagonistas. Me interesó, no porque piense que las mujeres no puedan cumplir, sino porque es bastante raro encontrar películas de este tipo que estén a la altura.

No me planteé muchas expectativas más que las de ver algo que mereciera la pena, ya que una hora y cuarenta minutos no es un juego de niños. Supongo que todos nos sentimos así con las películas; esperamos no ser decepcionados.

De todos modos, sentí una plétora de emociones después de ver toda la película. Mis pensamientos eran vagos, ya que no estaba seguro de qué decir sobre esta película. Pero, en fin, ya llegaremos a eso...

Además, muestra hasta qué punto la mala crianza de los hijos puede causar un daño sin precedentes en el futuro. Luego vemos los intentos de corregir los errores y un tema centrado en "la vida da segundas oportunidades".

Todo lo que esperaba encontrar en esta película era algo que me mantuviera con los ojos abiertos y me mantuviera en vilo, ya que para eso se cree que las películas de "thriller" tienen buenos efectos. Sin embargo, la película me pareció bastante diferente a mis expectativas.

La idea fundamental que tengo sobre las películas de suspense es que debo sentir la emoción (duhh...), el escalofrío y la excitación que se pretende. Si esto falla en una película, entonces lo que tenemos es "no" una película de suspense sino una película confundida con ella.

Lo que quiero decir es: "Por favor, por el amor de la industria, no sean previsibles". No quiero poder saber que un personaje va a girar a la izquierda con un vehículo que se dirige a un árbol. _{(¿Entiendes?).} El elemento sorpresa no debe faltar.

Se suponía que había un giro argumental en la película, como tienen la mayoría de las películas de suspense, pero cuando llegó el momento de desvelar el "giro", me encontré afirmando simultáneamente el giro mientras sucedía. Fue más bien un momento de "¿Por qué no me sorprende?" para mí.

Hola cinéfilos, desde hace ya varias semanas no me disponía a ver un filme dentro del top de popularidad de Netflix, a veces las películas que se incluyen en esta sección no son necesariamente las mejores, sin embargo, me atrajo mucho el póster de Lou, una sensación de misterio que transmite, así que me decidí a ver el filme que estaba en el puesto número uno de este top de popularidad en mi región, decidí no adentrarme mucho en información y confiar en que Netflix me otorgaría al menos un momento de entretenimiento.

Análisis de la Película

La historia que nos propone esta producción es interesante, un secuestro, una tormenta de fondo que le otorga un condimento muy especial al filme, en donde se cortan todas las comunicaciones durante el incidente. En lo particular, pienso que este tipo de historias son interesantes, ya que logran captar la atención del espectador mediante sus sentidos y sentimientos, además, el filme le otorga una buena dosis de misterio sobre los personajes, que poco a poco se va esclareciendo hasta que sobre el final entenderemos el contexto en el que se desarrolla la película.

El personaje de Lou

Es ese personaje en el que se centra el filme, podríamos decir que es un personaje atípico dentro de la industria del cine, ya que es el estereotipo del héroe antipático o antihéroe que termina por acceder a ayudar a las víctimas a regañadientes, pero que al mismo tiempo un misterio del pasado le envuelve, lo “atípico” que podríamos decir a un personaje que suena más a cliché, es que es interpretado por una mujer, que a simple vista se observa que es una persona adulta en la que la lógica nos dice que no debería tener mucha fuerza, resistencia o habilidades muy especiales, sin embargo, nos tiende a sorprender sin llegar a ser una historia fantasiosa.

Este tipo de personajes siempre es interpretado por hombres, los típicos hombres fornidos que, aunque con unos cuantos años encima, logran conservar esas habilidades de trabajos anteriores que le otorgan una buena dosis de acción al filme, podríamos mencionar un sinfín de nombres que pueden entrar en esta descripción.

Lo más atrayente del filme es sin dudas el personaje de Lou, sobreponiéndose a la historia y otras características, desde mi opinión funcionó como esa heroína inesperada, pero que nos recuerda a otros personajes del cine. Ese impulso de personajes femeninos me parece totalmente positivo, en lo particular disfruto de que este tipo de personajes ganen terreno en la industria y nos presenten una nueva manera de ver esos “héroes o antihéroes” de los filmes.

La actuación por parte de la actriz estadounidense Allison Janney es muy buena, lleva al personaje a un punto en que hace que sea el centro del filme, además, su evolución también es interesante, de principio a fin observaremos que es un personaje con mucho misterio, esto le agrega esa necesidad de conocer a fondo a Lou que hace que nos quedemos pegados a la pantalla hasta el último segundo, es una combinación efectiva para el desarrollo de este personaje femenino que me ha parecido bastante interesante.

¿Acción?

El filme nos presenta acción a cuenta gotas, gran parte de la trama se centra en la búsqueda con pinceladas de acción en combates cuerpo a cuerpo, no es mucho, aunque es un buen condimento a la historia. No es un filme clásico de acción trepidante, eso hay que tenerlo en cuenta al ver este filme y no caer en la decepción, ya que no se adentra en ese género.

Hablando de Netflix

Esta película representa para mí una ventana de ánimo para ver esas producciones en Netflix, no me parece una obra de maestra, es una película con ciertos baches en la historia y que no cuenta con un antagonista muy bueno desde mi punto de vista, aunque el personaje de Lou y todo su misterio es de resaltar, pienso que Netflix en muchos casos pierde adeptos con producciones de mucho presupuesto, pero un tanto vacías, este filme, por otro lado, no creo que hayan tenido que firmar un cheque tan grande para su producción, a pesar de ello, queda un buen sabor de boca con la mezcla de características interesantes que nos propone el filme.

Sin embargo, lo que a mi parecer le otorga vida a esta producción distribuida por Netflix es el personaje de Lou, así como lo mencioné en párrafos anteriores, me agradó este personaje y esa nueva faceta de héroe o en este caso antihéroe, ya que el personaje para nada es parecido al héroe tradicional, sin embargo, capta la atención esa esencia que muchos conocemos de personajes masculinos y eso es lo que más me agradó del filme.

Sí, creo que tiene la dosis suficiente de entretenimiento que deseamos en cada película, siento que es un filme recomendable para un sector amplio del público, sobre todo, a aquellos que les agraden las producciones en donde un personaje femenino sobresalga. Desde mi perspectiva no siento que sea una pérdida de tiempo, más bien me alegro de haber visto nuevamente una película número uno en el top de Netflix que me haya parecido interesante.
