  1. Love Next Door - An entertainment delight (Series Review)@oluchi31426d

Sometime earlier this year, I ranted about being in a kdrama/movie slump, and how I found it very hard, watching a 16 episode series. Well, I'm back from it and in the span of the last two weeks, I've watched four amazing shows, I can't wait to share with you all. One of which I would be reviewing now.

Love next door is one drama I got from a friend during my slump. I collected it because after hearing it's premise, that had a nice feel to it, i thought it would be enough to get me out of my slump. Alas, it didn't. It took me about 5 months to finish this drama and now, read me tell you why it took that long.

Source Love Next Door is a 16 episode Korean series starring Jung So Min, Jung Hae In, Kim ji Eun and Yoon Ji on. The Korean romantic comedy, follows the story of four women - The Suk sisters. These women, all grown up, now reside in the same area. Their kids, - Seok ryu(Jung So Min), Mo eum (Kim Ji eun), and Seung ho(Jung hae in), are next door neighbors, and have been best friends since childhood.

When Seokryu who's been living abroad, suddenly breaks her engagement and returns to Korea, there's a whole new life waiting for her. From friendship, to family, and to a blossoming relationship, and to home, she finds everything. And so, it's left for her to follow her dream.

There were so many things I loved about this movie, and I wondered how exactly a drama as interesting as this, found and left me in a slump. I guess this is just one of those things in life we have no say in. I enjoyed the whole plot of the movie. As is typical of kdramas, the humour in this drama was remarkable. From the time when Seokryu landed at the airport and instead of receiving a warm hug from Mo-eum, her female best friend, was left to hug herself, to when our main characters decided that anytime they were having an argument, both partners must end every statement with 'yeobo' (honey), I was hung up with laughter, through so many parts of this movie.

I have never watched a Jung So min movie before, neither have I watched Jung hae-in. If there were actors that had my heart, even before the movie started, it would be the second lead. Since I saw him in the drama Tomorrow, I added him to my endless list of adorable actors. Here, he did nothing other than deliver. His love story was actually my favourite. Seeing how he was paired with a crazy yet hilarious character. I enjoyed seeing the both of them love. IMG-20250428-WA0006.jpg Jung So min and Jung hae in devoured their roles as well. That childhood besties title fit them so well, I wondered if they were really acting or just being real. And I think the moment you begin to consider that in a movie, the authors have done a great job already. I didn't have a problem with any of the characters. They were portrayed as comical, free spirited and lively. A delight they were.

If you asked me my highlight in this movie, I might vaguely answer, Seung ho and Seokryu's first kiss. If you asked me if I'm sure, I might tell you, when Seokryu's dad, had people turn out in their numbers, to celebrate his food cafe, and he was ecstatic. But if you asked me to think deeply, my answer would be seeing the Suk sisters so happy at one of them's wedding anniversary. I want that for me and my girls. They were so happy, and dressed in such pretty bridesmaid gowns, it brought tears to my eyes. It was so nice to watch that I imagined a day like that for I and my friends.

This drama touched on themes like family, love and friendship. And although it was very slow paced, the humour and the cast's talent, made up for it. I'll rate this movie an 8/10. It was completely worth the watch but I'll recommend to kdrama fanatics, who are comfortable with extremely slow paces. A delight it was, watching Love Next Door.

    Thanks for reading

  2. When Love Reunites: Unpacking The Themes In "Love Next Door" Review@merit.ahama591d

I'm yet to be among those who see a series that is still being released episode by episode as I can't bear the suspense and wait that comes with it. I got the info that "Love Next Door" has ended and I finally got to see it last week. This was after many recommendations from different people, it only made sense I saw it when I did.

Just before seeing this series, I had finished seeing a 2016 kdrama series that had too many lapses to enjoy the storyline, that actually influenced how I felt about seeing a very recent series "Love Next Door". From it's storyline to how each episodes ended, it made better sense.

"Love Next Door" is a 16 episode Korean series set in the city of Seoul featuring as the lead cast Jung Hae-in from the popular series "Snowdrop", "Something in the rain" and "D.P" and Jung So-min from the most recent popular series "Alchemy Of Souls 1" and the old "Playful Kiss" series.

I wish I could make every movie lovers see this series as it has more than one lesson for every person even though the genre focus is "Romance, drama and family", it is a must watch and I'll be sharing my review in themes from the series, that is the combos that made it a perfect watch.

The main cast theme - Childhood friends.

The love eyes, the bickering, the hidden feelings and the love fight from this two (lead casts) is a part of the series I'm yet to get over with. Childhood friends reunites and all the embarrassing moments from their childhood resurfaces, you can not hold back from laughing when their scenes play.

There are actions they took in the series that made sense and go close to what happens in reality, the two loving others before realizing they love each other no matter how long it took. Of course, it would have been off to be in love with someone for so long and not telling their feelings.

Mini cast theme - Superpower & paramedic

Talk of loving the main supporting cast just as much as you love the main cast, the role given to Kang Dan-Ho and Jung Mo-eum definitely got viewers in full blushes as we expect their sweet love story to blossom even with factors against it for them. Both met in the superpower/paramedic way lol.

The little girl casting as Kang Dan-ho's daughter made it even more cute to watch. I've seen the character of Kang Dan-Ho in other series and I must mention that he had a better ending to his role in this series than the others, it is a long overdue role for him.

The Lavender & their husbands theme.

It was a whole comedy when these ladies came up with the new name to call their friendship, a really beautiful theme in the series that portrays long years friendship and they still bicker and fight like it's a recent friendship. The parents of the above casts didn't fail in bringing the show to live.

The show off when the children do well, the support they give when the children need them, the courage they use in facing down times, all of that made the watch worth it. They went from struggling communications to better understanding in their families as they share heartwarming and wise words.

It's beautiful that every character had a good closing in the end, paying attention to the story ends. Over all, you're in for a comedy show if you decide to see this series. Everything about the series aside the secret that wasn't necessary to keep, you'll find out eventually when you see it.

The characters were well played, I didn't expect less and they did beyond expectations. I'll give it a rating of 9/10 and recommend it to anyone who is yet to see it and I enjoys dramas about romance, comedy and family. What do you think about the series, if you've seen it?
