Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is one of the most classic and representative things of the 90's, there is no one who does not know this franchise in some way or another, they are an icon of their generation and marked the lives of many children over the years. It is not surprising that an icon like this has had several video games over the years, some being better than others, but the game that stars today's post is based on the first movie of this group of colorful heroes: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, which I remember quite fondly and especially the new costumes worn by the protagonists which were spectacular, as they were not the typical "cloth" costumes, but this time they had a quite stylized and visually spectacular armor, this being the best of that movie, as over the years and after a small revisit of that movie, in terms of CGI was quite mediocre, although you can not expect much with respect to the special effects to the Power Rangers, as it has never been their strong point.

So, today's Retro Review is about: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (Mega Drive).

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (Mega Drive) follows under its own terms the story seen in the movie, with its slight changes in the story, typical of a video game adaptation of an audio-visual medium, but in general terms the end with respect to its plot goes along the same line with the main plot. Graphically it is not a really outstanding game, it is rather something quite normal, but what it achieves with that "normality" is quite good, since at least visually it looks good and they managed to adapt and recreate decently both the Power Rangers with their classic and colorful costumes, as well as the Zords, which we can control at certain times. The design of the character sprites is decent, with enough detail to make them recognizable at first glance. Something for which this saga has not stood out is the variety of enemies, that is to say, there is a variety of enemies in terms of the final bosses, but the normal enemies are always the same or there is very little variety of them, which can become a little monotonous in that aspect.

The scenarios are very well done, these if they present a little more variety, also enjoy more than decent details and decorations, without standing out, or be something spectacular, but we must admit that they look good, without more. The music is perhaps the best aspect of this game, as not only can we hear the main theme of the franchise, which is always appreciated, as it is part of the essence of the series and arguably one of the main melodies of the 90s, but also has another set of very good melodies, with good rhythm that are very well suited to the beat'em up genre of this game. This being a very necessary element for a game in which we are in constant moments of action and I think that sometimes it is an element that is not appreciated too much and forms a very important factor in a video game or at least in the vast majority of them.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (Mega Drive) is a classic beat'em up of all life, with the most classic and typical elements of the games of its style, in which our main objective is to advance through a series of scenarios full of enemies that we must defeat, to defeat the group of enemies guarding a part of the stage, the game allows us to move to the next part to reach the battle with the final boss of each level. When we get to this part of the stage, is where we can use our Zord, fighting against the boss in a battle of giants in a typical 1 Versus 1. We can choose the character of our choice and there will not be much variety of movements beyond the special power that each character has. We have the help of the classic items that restore our life bar, the item that gives us an extra life and other items that give us points. In general terms Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (Mega Drive) is a beat'em up too classic in all aspects, being its strongest point the use of the Zord and of course, being able to use our favorite Power Ranger, which adds too many points to this game, it is recommended, but only if you like this franchise.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers es de las cosas más clásicas y representativas de los años 90, no hay nadie que no conozca a esta franquicia de alguna manera u otra, son un icono de su generación y marcaron la vida de muchos niños con el pasar de los años. No es sorprendente que un icono como este haya tenido varios videojuegos a lo largo de los años, siendo unos mejores que otros, pero el juego que protagoniza el post de hoy está basado en la primera película de este grupo de héroes de colores: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, la cual recuerdo con bastante cariño y especialmente los nuevos trajes que usaban los protagonistas los cuales eran espectaculares, ya que no eran los típicos trajes de “tela”, sino que esta vez tenían una armadura bastante estilizada y visualmente espectacular, siendo esto lo mejor de esa película, ya que con el pasar de los años y luego de una pequeña revisita de dicha película, en términos de CGI era bastante mediocre, aunque tampoco se puede esperar mucho con respecto a los efectos especiales a los Power Rangers, ya que nunca ha sido su punto fuerte.

Por lo que, la Retro Review de hoy es sobre: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (Mega Drive).

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (Mega Drive) sigue bajo sus propios términos la historia vista en la película, con sus ligeros cambios en la historia, típicos de una adaptación a videojuego de un medio audio-visual, pero que términos generales el fin con respecto a su argumento va de la misma línea con el argumento principal. Gráficamente no es un juego realmente destacable es más bien algo bastante normal, pero lo que logra con esa “normalidad” está bastante bien, ya que al menos visualmente se ve bien y lograron adaptar y recrear decentemente tanto a los Power Rangers con sus clásicos y vistosos trajes, así como también a los Zords, a los cuales podremos controlar en ciertos momentos. El diseño de los sprites de los personajes es decente, cuenta con los suficientes detalles como para que sean reconocibles a simple vista. Algo por lo que no ha destacado esta saga es por la variedad de enemigos, es decir, hay variedad de enemigos en lo que respecta a los jefes finales, pero los enemigos normales, siempre son los mismos o hay muy poca variedad de ellos, lo que puede llegar a ser un poco monótono en ese aspecto.

Los escenarios están muy bien hechos, estos si presentan un poco más de variedad, igualmente gozan de detalles y decorados más que decentes, sin destacar, ni ser algo espectacular, pero hay que admitir que se ven bien, sin más. La música quizás sea el mejor aspecto de este juego, ya que no solo podremos escuchar el tema principal de la franquicia, lo cual siempre es de agradecer, ya que es parte de la esencia de la serie y se podría decir que es una de las melodías principales de los años 90, sino que también cuenta con otro conjunto de melodías muy buenas, con buen ritmo que se adaptan muy bien al género beat'em up de este juego. Siendo este un elemento muy necesario para un juego en el que estamos en constantes momentos de acción y creo que a veces es un elemento que no se aprecia demasiado y forma un factor muy importante en un videojuego o al menos en la gran mayoría de ellos.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (Mega Drive) es un beat'em up clásico de toda la vida, contando con los elementos más clásicos y típicos de los juegos de su estilo, en el que nuestro principal objetivo es ir avanzando por una serie de escenarios plagado de enemigos a lo que debemos derrotar, al derrotar al grupo de enemigos que custodian una parte del escenario, el juego nos permite avanzar hacia la siguiente parte hasta llegar a la batalla con el jefe final de cada nivel. Al llegar a esta parte del escenario, es donde podremos hacer uso de nuestro Zord, luchando contra el jefe en una batalla de gigantes en un típico 1 Versus 1. Podremos escoger el personaje de nuestra preferencia y no habrá tanta variedad de movimientos más allá del poder especial con el que cuenta cada personaje. Contamos con la ayuda de los clásicos ítems que nos restauran la barra de vida, el ítem que nos otorga una vida extra y otros ítems que nos dan puntos. En términos generales Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (Mega Drive) es un beat'em up demasiado clásico en todos los aspectos, siendo su punto más fuerte el uso de los Zord y por supuesto, el poder usar a nuestro Power Ranger favorito, lo cual le añade demasiados puntos a este juego, es recomendable, pero solo si te gusta esta franquicia.

My niece has this ringtone and I luv hearing it go off. I was very surprised and pumped to see that a new power rangers movie had come out. Even better, it was sorta a reunion thing and a total continuation of the original power rangers story!

Much of the original cast is back on this one..

and the writers did a really good job explaining or hiding any absences..

I like how the look and feel of the new movie is also just like the TV shows and not all modernized with fancy graphics and stuff..

It was a great thrilling trip down memory lane.. I remember really enjoying the show, and then I got to re-watch some of it with my kids.. and now we get a great movie to watch! :)

     Hola mis amigos de HIVE, un cálido y cordial saludo para todos, ayer mi primito vino a quedarse con nosotros por todo este fin de semana; estaba viendo TV, y note que veía una serie de los Power Rangers, una de las tantas que hay, y me acorde le la Película de 1995, la que para mí ha sido la mejor de ellos; le dije para verla juntos, para que viera quienes y como fueron los Power Rangers originales y de mi época de niña.

     Hello my friends of HIVE, a warm and cordial greeting to all, yesterday my little cousin came to stay with us for the whole weekend; I was watching TV, and I noticed that he was watching a series of the Power Rangers, one of the many that there are, and I remembered the movie of 1995, which for me has been the best of them; I told him to watch it together, so he could see who and how were the original Power Rangers and my time as a child.

     Mientras la veíamos, iba recordando cada escena y como fue la primera vez que la vi, recuerdo que fue en VHS, para esa época los Power Rangers estaban muy de moda, estaba la serie, juguetes, ropas con imágenes de ellos, accesorios y demás, luego salió la película, volviéndose más tendencia que antes; y con mi primito quise ver si fue solo algo de momento, que ya había quedado en el pasado o tendría el mismo impacto en él; y resulto que le gustó mucho, tanto los trajes, el centro de mando y hasta los villanos, que eran malos y cómicos a la vez.

     While we were watching it, I was remembering each scene and how it was the first time I saw it, I remember it was in VHS, by that time the Power Rangers were very fashionable, there was the series, toys, clothes with images of them, accessories and so on, then the movie came out, becoming more trendy than before; and with my little cousin I wanted to see if it was just something of the moment, that it was already in the past or it would have the same impact on him; and it turned out that he liked it a lot, both the costumes, the command center and even the villains, who were bad and funny at the same time.

     Es una película ya va para 30 años, y analizándola mejor, fue una producción bien hecha, sabiendo que los efectos especiales de esa época no se comparan con los de hoy en día, claro dependiendo el presupuesto; en lo personal es una historia muy interesante, más oscura, con muchos grados de dificultad para los Power Rangers, mas emotiva, no aburre en ningún momento.

     It is a movie that is already 30 years old, and upon closer analysis, it was a well made production, knowing that the special effects of that time do not compare with those of today, depending on the budget; personally it is a very interesting story, darker, with many degrees of difficulty for the Power Rangers, more emotional, not boring at any time.

     Las escenas de peleas fueron más rudas de lo que normalmente se veía en la serie, un dato curioso, en esta película casi toda las partes de acción se desarrollan de noche, algo muy diferente a la serie que todo es de día; también las destrucciones se ven más reales.

     The fight scenes were rougher than what was normally seen in the series, a curious fact, in this movie almost all the action parts take place at night, something very different from the series that everything is during the day; also the destructions look more real.

   La película hubiese sido perfecta si fueran estado los 6 jóvenes que dieron origen a todo este mundo de los Power Rangers, fuera sido épico ver a Jason, Zack y Triny con los demás, no se pudo, pero aun así, toda de principio a fin fue excelente.

   The movie would have been perfect if the 6 youngsters that gave birth to this whole Power Rangers world were in it, it would have been epic to see Jason, Zack and Triny with the others, but it didn't happen, but still, the whole thing from beginning to end was excellent.

     Luego de finalizar la película mi primito me pregunto si hay más películas de ellos, a lo que conteste que sí, pero no como esta; pero si esta la serie, claro los trajes son más sencillos, todo un poco mas tranquilo, pero con los mismos actores, y me dijo que quería verla.

     No fui fanática de los Power Rangers, no sé qué tantas serie han sacado a lo largo del tiempo, pero notando la reacción de mi primito, puedo tener la seguridad que no ha salido otra pelicula o serie que destrone a los originales, ellos marcaron un antes y un después, 30 años han pasado desde la serie y 27 desde la película y aun se hablan de ellos.

     After finishing the movie my little cousin asked me if there are more movies of them, to which I answered yes, but not like this one; but if there is the series, of course the costumes are simpler, everything a little quieter, but with the same actors, and he told me that he wanted to see it.

     I was not a fan of the Power Rangers, I don't know how many series have been released over time, but noting my little cousin's reaction, I can be sure that no other movie or series has come out to dethrone the originals, they marked a before and after, 30 years have passed since the series and 27 since the movie and they are still being talked about.

Power Rangers is the big-screen reboot of the hugely popular '90s TV show about a team of teen superheroes who are imbued with powers from ancient crystal coins. Unlike earlier takes on the characters, this movie amps up the violence and features strong language and mature themes (teen substance use, juvenile detention, cyberbullying, questions about sexual identity, and more). So even though it might appeal to young elementary-aged kids, it's far better suited for middle-schoolers and up. There's mass destruction, with a relatively high body count, as well as injuries, crashes, fights, and more. On the language front, characters use words like "s--t" and "ass," as well as one "motherf" that's purposely cut short. Subtle hints at potential romance include longing looks and flirting, and there are references to how someone digitally shared a student's inappropriate photo. Positive messages mirror those of the original series: teamwork, courage, training, sacrifice, and trust.

The film is directed by Dean Israelite, a semi-unknown South African director of which we know has directed to date a single film, also of science fiction and oriented to the youthful public. This is Project Almanac (2014), a film focused on a group of young people who manage to set up a time machine that they use to solve their problems and obtain personal benefits. The film was a great success at the box office and has the peculiarity of being shot as a "metraje found". We know from Israelite that he also directed several short films before the film: "Magician" (2006), "The Department of Nothing" (2007) and "Acholiland" (2009).

WHAT'S THE STORY? POWER RANGERS opens 65 million years ago, with Red Ranger Zordon (Bryan Cranston) sacrificing himself to ensure that villain Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) can't take hold of Earth's Zeo Crystal. Zordon also releases the five Power Coins to find those "who are worthy" to be the next five Power Rangers crew. Fast forward to the present, when Angel Grove High's former golden-boy quarterback Jason Scott (Dacre Montgomery) has to go to Saturday detention for his entire senior year due to a team prank gone wrong. There, he meets tech-savvy Billy (RJ Cyler) and angry ex-cheerleader Kimberly (Naomi Scott). The trio ends up at a mine, where Billy uncovers brightly colored crystal coins. Two other teens -- Trini (Becky G.) and Zack (Ludi Lin) -- are also present for the discovery, and, as each kid takes one coin as their own, they team up and attempt to avoid police pursuit. The next morning, the team of misfit teens realizes that instead of dying in a car accident, they're alive and healed, with inexplicable super-strength. After returning to the site of their discovery, they find an underwater space ship where an android, Alpha 5 (voiced by Bill Hader), and the trapped spirit of Zordon explain that they must train to become the Power Rangers -- but first they must morph. If they can't morph, they won't be able to fight Rita, who's come back to life and plans to find the Zeo Crystal and destroy Earth in the process.
