   Most movies usually release second and third parts when the first one was quite successful or accepted, then if they do well they dare to release prequels, which takes us many years behind the initial film, an example that comes to mind is "My favorite villain", after the three installments have been developing parts of Gru's past and also of the minions, something that is always interesting, however, the prequels are usually less accepted than the continuations.

   This is something recurrent, most of the people I talk to usually love the sequels, but they have a certain repulsion towards the prequels, the reason? There are several, but there is no specific one, I will only say that prequels don't usually fulfill expectations, we are so used to compare one installment with the other that we underestimate the past of our favorite characters. Following Gru's example, I have not liked almost any of the prequels that have been presented so far, I find them of very low quality, I have even gotten bored watching them with my children.

   With this in mind, I decided to watch Monster University, the prequel to Monster Inc, after my children saw it I found out from them that it was not a sequel, and I quickly missed the fact that after the first movie they developed a prequel and not the sequel, maybe that's why I decided to give it a look, and I must say that I was very pleased, which leads me to think that it is not necessary to wait so long to create this kind of movies, maybe that is the factor that affects the quality of them.

   All of us who saw Monster Inc. were left with the desire to see a sequel where Sullivan would meet Boo again, but analyzing how well the movie ended, making a sequel was perhaps too risky, the company had already replaced the scares with laughter and thus saved its energy problems, the "pejelagarto" had left and the president was imprisoned, what plot could be developed, the easiest way was the prequel, which we will talk about next.

   La mayoría de películas suelen sacar segundas y terceras partes cuando la primera tuvo bastante éxito o aceptación, luego si les va bien se atreven a sacar precuelas, lo que nos lleva muchos años atrás de la película inicial, un ejemplo que se me viene a la cabeza es “Mi villano favorito”, luego de las tres entregas han estado desarrollando partes del pasado de Gru y también de los minions, algo que siempre es interesante, sin embargo, las precuelas suelen ser menos aceptadas que las continuaciones.

   Esto es algo recurrente, la mayoría de las personas con quienes hablo suelen amar las secuelas, pero tienen cierta repulsión hacia las precuelas, ¿el motivo? Son varios pero no hay uno en específico, solo diré que las precuelas no suelen llenar las expectativas, estamos tan habituados a comparar una entrega con la otra que le restamos crédito al pasado de nuestros personajes favoritos. Siguiendo el ejemplo de Gru, no me han gustado casi ninguna de las precuelas que han presentado hasta los momentos, me parecen de muy baja calidad, incluso he llegado a aburrirme viéndolas con mis hijos.

   Teniendo esto en cuenta, he decidido ver Monster University, la precuela de Monster Inc., luego de que mis hijos la vieran me entere por ellos de que no era una continuación, y rápidamente me extraño el hecho que luego de la primera película desarrollaran una precuela y no la secuela, quizás por eso decidí darle un vistazo, y debo decir que quede muy complacido, lo que me lleva a pensar que no es necesario esperar tanto tiempo para crear este tipo de películas, quizás ese sea el factor que afecta en la calidad de las mismas.

   Todos los que vimos Monster Inc., quedamos con las ganas de ver una segunda parte donde Sullivan se encontrara nuevamente con Boo, pero analizando lo bien que culmino la película, hacer una continuación quizás era muy arriesgado, ya la empresa había sustituido los sustos por las risas y con ello ahorrado sus problemas energéticos, el “pejelagarto” se había marchado y el presidente encarcelado, ¿qué trama se podría desarrollar?, el camino más fácil fue la precuela, de la cual vamos a hablar a continuación.

   **A story of overcoming / Una historia de superación**

   Monster University focuses mainly on Mike Wazowski, who since childhood dreamed of becoming a scarer, but his sweet and not very scary appearance made things difficult for him in a big way, the monster kids around him always told him that he was not born to scare, and he grew up with that thought until he entered the university, he was determined to be a scarer no matter how difficult the road was.

   The monsters that went to the university were the ones that in the future would be hired in the scare companies, so their passage there was an academic preparation of it, just like us when we study a career to become professionals, the atmosphere of the university of monsters was quite striking, there were fraternities, "cool" groups, other discarded, good teachers and a scary director, who had a special program of scares within the university, in itself, it was his experience and knowledge of the subject that prepared the future scareactors.

   At the university Mike meets Sullivan and Randy (Randall in the second part), the first of them quite conceited, especially because of his last name, being the son of the biggest scarer in history put him in a privileged position in terms of scares, but the personality he had here is that of a person who hides his fears through his status, and from the beginning Mike took him as a rival, on the one hand we have one who does not scare and on the other one who scares a lot, an interesting contrast.

   Monster University se enfoca principalmente en Mike Wazowski, quien desde pequeño soñaba con convertirse en asustador, pero su apariencia dulce y poco aterradora le dificultaba las cosas en gran manera, los niños monstruos a su alrededor siempre le decían que él no había nacido para asustar, y fue creciendo con ese pensamiento hasta que ingreso en la universidad, estaba decidido a ser un asustador sin importar lo difícil que fuera el camino.

   Los monstruos que iban a la universidad eran los que a futuro serian contratados en las empresas de sustos, por lo que su paso allí era una preparación académica de ello, tal cual como nosotros cuando estudiamos una carrera para convertirnos en profesionales, el ambiente de la universidad de monstruos fue bastante llamativo, habían fraternidades, grupos “cool”, otros desechados, profesores buenos y una directora temible, la cual tenía un programa especial de sustos dentro de la universidad, en sí, era su experiencia y conocimiento del asunto lo que preparaba a los futuros asustadores.

   En la universidad Mike conoce a Sullivan y a Randy (Randall en la segunda parte), el primero de ellos bastante engreído, sobre todo a causa de su apellido, el ser hijo del mayor asustador de la historia lo colocaba en una posición privilegiada en cuanto a los sustos, pero la personalidad que tenía acá es la de una persona que oculta sus temores por medio de su status, y desde el inicio Mike se lo tomo como un rival, por un lado tenemos a uno que no asusta y por otro a uno que asusta mucho, un contraste interesante.

   

   What caught my attention was that Randall was not evil at all this time, in fact he was Mike's best friend, and we see him with a fearful personality, but deep down wanting to be recognized, this was maintained and developed better in the second installment, but here I like how they show it, both he and Mike were roommates, and together they were striving to get ahead in their studies, both were dedicated to become scareactors.

   Lo que me llamo bastante la atención fue que Randall no era nada maligno en esta oportunidad, de hecho era el mejor amigo de Mike, y lo vemos con una personalidad temerosa, pero en el fondo queriendo ser reconocido, esto si se mantuvo y desarrollo mejor en la segunda entrega, pero acá me gusta como lo muestran, tanto el cómo Mike eran compañeros de habitación, y juntos se esforzaban por salir adelante en sus estudios, los dos estaban dedicados a convertirse en asustadores

   **Accept to get better / Aceptar para mejorar**

   Mike is expelled along with Sullivan from the scare program, but because of an internal competition they find themselves in the need to work as a team with other monsters who were the "Mike" type not made to scare, and thus win the "scare olympics", that way they could prove to the director that they could also scare and be allowed to continue in the program. This part of the movie shows us many funny and interesting things, but the best of all and the one that becomes a turning point in the life of the main character is when he realizes that he doesn't scare anything, that's where he starts to change, and even though at the end he was expelled from college with Sullivan for a series of events he discovers that he has other qualities that many don't have, and those are the ones he develops to become the Mike that works in the scare factory in Monster Inc.

   This movie definitely has an entertaining story for children but at the same time a message of overcoming for young people and adults, Mike could never scare, he was not made for that, and until he accepted that reality he could not change or improve in his life. This really is a powerful message, not like the one they want to paint for us today, like "zootopia", that we can be whatever we want, that will never be so. If we don't accept what we were made for and what we can really be, we will never grow or develop our full potential in life, so I'll keep that message of the movie, which is definitely the main one.

   Finally and to conclude, there are few prequels that I have liked, I think I can list them, but Monster University is one of them, so I highly recommend it, I'm sure you will enjoy it.

   Mike es expulsado junto a Sullivan del programa de sustos, pero a causa de una competición interna se ven en la necesidad de trabajar en equipo junto a otros monstruos que eran del tipo “Mike” no hechos para asustar, y asi ganar las “susto olimpiadas”, de esa forma podrían demostrar a la directora que ellos también podían asustar y que les permitiesen seguir en el programa. Esta parte de la película nos muestra muchas cosas divertidas e interesantes, pero la mejor de todas y la que se vuelve un punto de inflexión en la vida del personaje principal es cuando se da cuenta que no asusta nada, allí es donde comienza a cambiar, y a pesar de que al final fue expulsado de la universidad con Sullivan por una serie de acontecimientos descubre que tiene otras cualidades que muchos no tienen, y esas son las que desarrolla hasta llegar a ser el Mike que trabaja en la fábrica de sustos en Monster Inc. Esta película definitivamente tiene una historia entretenida para los niños pero a su vez un mensaje de superación para jóvenes y adultos, Mike jamás pudo asustar, no fue hecho para eso, y hasta que no acepto esa realidad no pudo cambiar ni mejorar en su vida. Este realmente es un mensaje poderoso, no como el que nos quieren pintar el día de hoy tipo “zootopia” de que podemos ser lo que queramos, eso jamás será asi. Si no aceptamos para qué fuimos hechos y lo que en realidad podemos ser jamás creceremos ni desarrollaremos todo el potencial en nuestra vida, asi que me quedo con ese mensaje de la película, que definitivamente es el principal.

   Por último y para concluir, son pocas las precuelas que me han gustado, pienso que las puedo enumerar, pero Monster University es una de ellas, asi que te la recomiendo encarecidamente, estoy seguro que la disfrutaras.

   Desde hace unos días tengo en Repeat la película de Monsters University, actualmente se ha convertido en mi película de comfort, por esta razón me pareció buena idea hacer un post dedicado ha esta pelicula.

   Monsters University es una película lanzada en 2013,  producida por Pixar y distribuida por Walt Disney Pictures y es la precuela de la icónica película Monster Inc lanzada en el 2001, por esta razón la película tenía un peso encima y unas expectativas que cumplir.

   Primero quiero dar una pequeña sinopsis de esta pelicula, mike y sulley no siempre fueron mejores amigos, es más al principio su relación era más de rechazo que de agrado, sin embargo al ser expulsados del programa de sustos tendrán que trabajar en equipo y dejar sus diferencias de lado para competir en las sustolimpiadas y demostrar su potencial como asustadores.

   Me acuerdo cuando salió esta pelicula, yo fui a verla al cine porque estaba muy entusiasmado, monster inc es una de mis películas favoritas de pixar y la verdad es que el concepto de ver a los personajes pero en la universidad y ver como era su relación antes de lo que ya nos habían mostrado me pareció un buen concepto, además me acuerdo que cuando salió esta pelicula fue un sorprendente su animacion y aunque pixar actualmente nos tiene acostumbrados a esas animaciones súper detalladas en ese momento fue como una innovación bastante grande.

   La película supo manejar muy bien la carga de cumplir con la calidad de su película anterior y aunque tal vez no llegue al mismo nivel la verdad es que el resultado fue muy bueno, tiene una trama interesante y enganchante, un humor bastante sano pero que funciona y personajes con los que podemos empatizar fácilmente, no me parece justo las personas que juzgan a esta película en base a la anterior, porque sabemos que no le llega al nivel de la primera, pero eso no la convierte en una mala película, es más, siento que nos sorprendió y fue mucho mejor de lo que pensábamos.

   Este película tiene muy buenos momentos, escenas tristes, escenas felices, escenas cómicas, en verdad es una película bastante balanceada. Toda la vibra de la película me gusta bastante y obviamente es una pelicula facil de digerir convirtiéndola así en mi actual película de comfort.

   La recomiendo totalmente, si hay alguien que actualmente no la ha visto, debería verla porque es una pelicula que tiene lo suyo.

   Since a few days ago I have on Repeat the movie Monsters University, currently it has become my comfort movie, for this reason I thought it was a good idea to make a post dedicated to this movie.

   Monsters University is a movie released in 2013, produced by Pixar and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures and is the prequel to the iconic movie Monster Inc released in 2001, for this reason the movie had a weight on top and expectations to meet.

   First I want to give a little synopsis of this movie, mike and sulley were not always best friends, in fact at the beginning their relationship was more of rejection than liking, however when they are expelled from the scares program they will have to work as a team and leave their differences aside to scare games and show their potential as scarers.

   I remember when this movie came out, I went to see it at the cinema because I was very excited, monster inc is one of my favorite pixar movies and the truth is that the concept of seeing the characters but in college and see how their relationship was before what we had already been shown seemed a good concept, I also remember that when this movie came out it was a surprising animation and although pixar is currently accustomed to those super detailed animations at that time was like a pretty big innovation.

   The film knew how to handle very well the burden of meeting the quality of his previous film and although it may not reach the same level the truth is that the result was very good, has an interesting and engaging plot, a fairly healthy humor but that works and characters with whom we can easily empathize, I do not think it is fair to people who judge this film based on the previous one, because we know it does not reach the level of the first, but that does not make it a bad movie, indeed, I feel that we were surprised and was much better than we thought.

   This movie has very good moments, sad scenes, happy scenes, funny scenes, it is really a very balanced movie. I like the whole vibe of the movie and obviously it's an easy to digest movie making it my current comfort movie.

   Despite the general reviews they were not very favorable, in my opinion Monster University is one of the most profound films at the thematic level that Pixar has created to date.

   

   Released in 2013 and directed by Dan Scanlon - With John Goodman and Billy Crystal reprising their roles as Mike and Sully - Monster University is a prequel to Monster Inc that seeks to explain how these two characters got to know each other and became friends for life .

   While it might have been a disappointing idea at the time and audiences were showing more interest in a sequel showing Boo's return, in retrospect Monster University is an interesting film whose prequel nature allows it to experiment with many great ideas.

   

   Although its structure is very typical, its messages are quite dense for a children's film, as if its main focus was not on children but on those who grew up with the original Monster Inc from the early 2000s.

   This "coming of age" spirit ignores the typical lessons of Pixar and in a tender but rather crude way addresses the idea that not all of us can become what we want in life, contrary to films like Ratatouille that have a more optimistic vision of our desires and the ability to achieve them, University opens up to the possibility of finding alternative ways to achieve our goals.

   

   Since he was a small child, Mike Wazowski has been obsessed with becoming a "scarer", he is extremely dedicated and each of the decisions he has made in his life have been based on this, everything changes when when he reaches university he discovers that he is not fit for this and whatever he does he will probably never fulfill his dream.

   Not in the mood to reveal the ending of the film for those who have not seen it, at Monster University things do not go exactly as their characters plan - And that's fine - ironically, this pessimistic view of their own events ends up being incredibly positive.

   

   Mike and Sully's friendship is amazing and we understand at all times why it works, the rules of the universe are clear and they are never bent to make everything go unjustifiably right for them. It is moving and enjoyable.

   Beyond its argument, Monster University is a visually beautiful film, which organically expands what is seen on Monster Inc and once again breaks the limits of what Pixar can do.

   

   Of course, it is far from perfect, and its journey can fall into a series of annoying tropes and clichés - The university as a setting is not a particularly unique idea - but its ending makes it all worthwhile. An undervalued work that allows us to revisit these great characters and that with each visit does nothing but win my heart.

   A pesar de las críticas generales no fueron muy favorables a mi parecer Monster University es una de las películas más profundas a nivel temático que Pixar ha creado hasta la fecha.

   

   Estrenada en el 2013 y dirigida por Dan Scanlon - Con John Goodman y Billy Crystal repitiendo sus papeles de Mike y Sully - Monster University es una precuela a Monster Inc que busca explicarnos como estos dos personajes llegaron a conocerse y empezaron a ser amigos de por vida.

   Entendemos que en su momento quizá fuese una idea decepcionante y el público demostraba más interés por una secuela que mostrase el regreso de Boo, en retrospectiva Monster University es una película interesante cuya naturaleza de precuela le permite experimentar con muchas grandes ideas.

   

   Aunque su estructura es muy típica sus mensajes son bastante densos para ser una película infantil, como si su foco principal no estuviese en los niños sino en aquellos que crecieron con la Monster Inc original de principios de la década de los 2000.

   Este espíritu “coming of age” ignora las lecciones típicas de Pixar y de forma tierna pero bastante cruda aborda la idea de que no todos podemos llegar a ser lo que deseamos en la vida, contrario a filmes como Ratatouille que tienen una visión más optimista de nuestros deseos y la capacidad para alcanzarlos, University se abre a la posibilidad de encontrar vías alternas para llegar cumplir nuestros objetivos.

   

   Desde que era un niño pequeño Mike Wazowski está obsesionado con convertirse en un “asustador”, es extremamente dedicado y cada una de las decisiones que ha tomado en su vida han sido en función de esto, todo cambia cuando al llegar a la universidad descubre que no es apto para esto y haga lo que haga probablemente nunca cumplirá su sueño.

   Sin ánimos de revelar el final de la cinta para aquellos que no la han visto, en Monster University las cosas no salen exactamente como sus personajes lo planean - Y eso está bien -, irónicamente, esta visión pesimista de sus propios eventos termina siendo increíblemente positiva.

   

   La amistad de Mike y Sully es increíble y entendemos en todo momento por qué funciona, las reglas del universo son claras y nunca se doblan para hacer que todo les salga bien de forma injustificada. Es conmovedora y agradable.

   Más allá de su argumento, Monster University es una cinta hermosa visualmente, que amplia de forma orgánica lo visto en Monster Inc y rompe una vez más los límites de lo que Pixar puede hacer.

   

   Por supuesto, dista de ser perfecta, y su recorrido puede caer en una serie de tropos y clichés fastidiosos - La universidad como setting no es una idea particularmente única - pero su final hace que todo valga la pena. Una obra infravalorada que nos permite revisitar a estos grandiosos personajes y que con cada visita no hace más que ganarse mi corazón.
