   I don't think I have ever felt the way I did about this film when I finished it. Picture this with me: You are on an escalator, going up, and enjoying the sensation of going against gravity. Then, suddenly, the escalator loses power, and you come crashing down, right back to where you started but with confusion as to what had just happened. That's exactly what this film was like to me.

   It's not entirely a bad movie, actually—in case that's the picture you have painted already. On the contrary, it is a potentially good movie. But there were loopholes—big ones, in fact—that could make one think otherwise at some point during the movie. For context, let's see what it's about first.

   The Plot

   Craig, a young boy, is hired by an old man, Mr. Harrigan. His job is to read books to Mr. Harrigan. And so he shows up at Mr. Harrigan's house three times a week, with his father's consent, and he gets paid for his job. Mr. Harrigan, however, saw potential beyond that in Craig.

   

   Many years pass, and Craig is now much older but still doing his job for the old man. Their relationship grew with time, so much so that they gave themselves gifts for birthdays. One day, Craig buys Harrigan a smart phone as a replacement for his good old telephone. They then developed communication over their smartphones, and the relationship grew even more.

   Mr. Harrigan dies eventually, but Craig then discovers that death could not severe their communication over the phone. And for reasons oblivious to Craig, Harrigan somehow has some involvement with some mysterious happenings around Craig in town.

   

   Quite a spooky story, I would say. And I do love stories like this; stories that have mysteries to be solved. Sometimes, these mysteries could be supernatural, and they tend to make the story even more elaborate as they can open the ground for more exploration of ideas and concepts, building more intrigue in its audience. That's clear about the direction this film is headed.

   The film was set in a time when technology had not advanced as much as it has in the present day. iPhones had just come into our world, the internet was not as accessible, and physical newspapers were still very much the norm. I am talking about a time around 2007. This allowed certain ideas to actually work in the film.

   Mr. Harrigan's phone, according to many sources, is labeled as horror. It's one of two things that made me consider choosing to watch it. Horror films do have a special way of delivering thrills and intrigue. And the second, well, is because I saw Jaeden Martell in a lead role. Jaedon is popular in this genre, and for his performances in the films It and Knives Out that I really admired, I figured that I was in for a treat.

   

   When it comes to films like this, I usually have a lot of patience. I prefer to engulf myself in their stories, paying attention to every single detail I can catch, and always expect that, at some point, there will be that feeling of "a while spent well" when it all starts to make sense and maybe make me feel on edge too about the whole story. So, the film may seem slow-paced, but as long as there is a justifiable reason—such as the development of characters—then I would wait.

   The film begins and continues with a relatable concept of the life of a typical family dealing with grief. Soon enough, we begin to see things from the perspective of a little boy whose life is influenced by an old man seeking company and assistance. Years pass and their relationship waxes stronger, and the influence of the old man continues even stronger after his passing.

   

   The relationship that these two individuals have in this film is portrayed in a way that makes it enjoyable. For the most part of the film, this relationship between a boy and an old man was what kept me going until, of course, the spooky part came along.

   It was at this point when there was a change in gear with the storyline that I sat up in expectation of some actual drama and thrilling happenings. It all started really slowly, in a subtle way, and then it started getting intense. At this point, I felt my patience was beginning to pay off, as what I had been longing for was finally going to come to pass, and I could finally enjoy myself with some chills down my spine.

   

   Its runtime is only one hour and thirty minutes. However, I think more than half of the film was focused on the former part, which was all about the relationship they had. You can imagine what I may have felt when I checked how long the film had been going and I still had not gotten what I was expecting. After so long in the film, I began to wonder how the film crammed the juicy parts of the film into under thirty minutes. I had hope nonetheless.

   Then, suddenly, the escalator loses power, and you come crashing down, right back to where you started but with confusion as to what had just happened.

   It was at this point, a few minutes before the film credits, that my hopes and expectations were dashed away. I was astonished and appalled that the film had really ended and that the director made me feel like the questions I had hoped to be answered were only a figment of my imagination. You can imagine that I checked online to see if this was only the first part of the film or a prequel to a series.

   

   Good visual storytelling in films can aid in passing the message of the film efficiently. I feel that one of the strengths of this film is how they used camera dynamics to capture cogent parts of the film, such as the actors' emotions in certain scenes, giving us the exact perspective required to follow along. I appreciate the effort put into making the film effective in delivering a portrayal of a time that's almost two decades away.

   There are not that many characters in this film. The two we are most curious about are Craig and Mr. Harrison. Their performances, by Jaeden Martell and Donald Sutherland, were just right for the show. I expected Jaeden's prowess in this genre to fit in well, and Donald's was just right with his delivery.

   

   If this film had been like the first part of a series or something, then I would consider it a job well done for setting the right pace. But with the way it ended, I just couldn't help but wonder what the director was thinking. It's an adaptation of a book, yes, but more could have been delivered with such a potential storyline. However, it was all flat and bland, and it underperformed.

   Would I want to put someone through the agony and pain that I had put myself through? No. That is to say, I would not recommend this film to anyone.

   I will give it a rating of 5/10.

   Creo que nunca he sentido lo que sentí por esta película cuando la terminé. Imagínate esto conmigo: Estás en una escalera mecánica, subiendo y disfrutando de la sensación de ir contra la gravedad. Entonces, de repente, la escalera pierde potencia y caes estrepitosamente, justo donde empezaste, pero confundido por lo que acababa de ocurrir. Eso es exactamente lo que me ha parecido esta película.

   En realidad, no es del todo una mala película, en caso de que esa sea la imagen que ya te hayas hecho. Al contrario, es una película potencialmente buena. Pero había lagunas -grandes, de hecho- que podían hacer pensar lo contrario en algún momento de la película. Para contextualizar, veamos primero de qué va.

   La Trama

   Craig, un chico joven, es contratado por un anciano, el Sr. Harrigan. Su trabajo consiste en leerle libros al Sr. Harrigan. Y así se presenta en casa del Sr. Harrigan tres veces por semana, con el consentimiento de su padre, y le pagan por su trabajo. El Sr. Harrigan, sin embargo, vio potencial más allá de eso en Craig.

   

   Pasan muchos años, y Craig es ahora mucho mayor, pero sigue haciendo su trabajo para el anciano. Su relación creció con el tiempo, tanto que se hacían regalos para los cumpleaños. Un día, Craig le compra a Harrigan un teléfono inteligente como sustituto de su viejo teléfono. Entonces entablan comunicación a través de sus smartphones, y la relación crece aún más.

Los iPhones acababan de llegar a nuestro mundo, Internet no era tan accesible y los periódicos físicos seguían siendo la norma. Hablo de una época en torno a 2007. Esto permitió que ciertas ideas funcionaran realmente en la película.

   El teléfono del Sr. Harrigan, según muchas fuentes, está etiquetado como de terror. Es una de las dos cosas que me hicieron plantearme verla. Las películas de terror tienen una forma especial de transmitir emoción e intriga. Y la segunda, bueno, es porque vi a Jaeden Martell en un papel protagonista. Jaedon es popular en este género, y por sus interpretaciones en las películas y Knives Out que admiraba mucho, me imaginé que me esperaba algo bueno.

   

   Cuando se trata de películas de este tipo, suelo tener mucha paciencia. Prefiero sumergirme en sus historias, prestando atención a todos los detalles que puedo captar, y siempre espero que, en algún momento, se produzca esa sensación de "un rato bien empleado" en la que todo empiece a cobrar sentido y, tal vez, me haga sentir también en tensión por toda la historia. Así pues, la película puede parecer de ritmo lento, pero mientras haya una razón justificable -como el desarrollo de los personajes-, yo esperaría.

   La película comienza y continúa con un concepto cercano de la vida de una familia típica que se enfrenta al dolor. Muy pronto, empezamos a ver las cosas desde la perspectiva de un niño cuya vida se ve influenciada por un anciano que busca compañía y ayuda. Pasan los años y su relación se fortalece, y la influencia del anciano continúa aún más fuerte después de su fallecimiento.

   

   La relación que mantienen estos dos individuos en esta película está retratada de una forma que la hace amena. Durante la mayor parte de la película, esta relación entre un niño y un anciano fue lo que me mantuvo hasta que, por supuesto, llegó la parte espeluznante.

   Fue en ese momento, cuando se produjo un cambio en el argumento, cuando me senté con la expectativa de ver algún drama real y sucesos emocionantes. Todo empezó muy despacio, de forma sutil, y luego empezó a ponerse intenso. Llegados a este punto, sentí que mi paciencia empezaba a dar sus frutos, ya que lo que tanto había deseado por fin iba a suceder, y por fin pude disfrutar con escalofríos.

   

   Su duración es de sólo una hora y treinta minutos. Sin embargo, creo que más de la mitad de la película se centra en la primera parte, que trata de la relación que mantienen. Os podéis imaginar lo que pude sentir cuando comprobé lo que había durado la película y todavía no había conseguido lo que esperaba. Después de tanto tiempo de película, empecé a preguntarme cómo la película había metido las partes más jugosas de la película en menos de treinta minutos. No obstante, tenía esperanzas.

   Entonces, de repente, la escalera mecánica pierde potencia, y caes estrepitosamente, justo donde empezaste pero con la confusión de lo que acababa de pasar.

   Fue en ese momento, unos minutos antes de los créditos de la película, cuando mis esperanzas y expectativas se desvanecieron. Me quedé atónito y horrorizado de que la película hubiera terminado realmente y de que el director me hiciera sentir que las preguntas que esperaba que me respondieran eran sólo producto de mi imaginación. Os podéis imaginar que busqué en Internet si se trataba sólo de la primera parte de la película o de la precuela de una serie.

   

   Una buena narración visual puede ayudar a transmitir eficazmente el mensaje de la película. Creo que uno de los puntos fuertes de esta película es cómo han utilizado la dinámica de la cámara para captar partes convincentes de la película, como las emociones de los actores en determinadas escenas, dándonos la perspectiva exacta necesaria para seguirla. Aprecio el esfuerzo puesto en hacer que la película sea eficaz a la hora de ofrecer un retrato de una época que está a casi dos décadas de distancia.

   No hay muchos personajes en esta película. Los dos por los que sentimos más curiosidad son Craig y el Sr. Harrison. Sus interpretaciones, a cargo de Jaeden Martell y Donald Sutherland, son correctas. Esperaba que la destreza de Jaeden en este género encajara bien, y la de Donald fue correcta con su entrega.

   

   Si esta película hubiera sido como la primera parte de una serie o algo así, entonces la consideraría un trabajo bien hecho por marcar el ritmo adecuado. Pero con la forma en que terminó, no pude evitar preguntarme en qué estaba pensando el director. Es una adaptación de un libro, sí, pero se podría haber hecho más con un argumento tan potencial. Sin embargo, todo fue plano y soso, y su rendimiento fue inferior al esperado.

   ¿Querría hacer pasar a alguien por la agonía y el dolor por los que yo mismo he pasado? No. Es decir, no recomendaría esta película a nadie.

   La película a la que le are una reseña el día de hoy se llama El teléfono del señor Harrigan, una película del género suspenso, terror y drama estrenado el 5 de octubre del 2022.

   A pesar de tener el género de terror, no es algo de lo que debamos preocuparnos, ya que de por sí no es algo que debamos tener miedo de lo que podemos encontrar en él.

   Pero la historia te pondrá la piel de gallina en algunas escenas impactantes que no quiero mencionar para que puedan disfrutar más de esta película si alguna vez quisieras verla.

   Welcome my dear friends cinemaniacs.
   The movie that I am going to review today is called Mr. Harrigan's Phone, a movie of the suspense, horror and drama genre released on October 5, 2022.
   Despite having the horror genre, it is not something we should be worried about, since it is not something we should be afraid of what we can find in it.
   But the story will give you goosebumps in some shocking scenes that I don't want to mention, so you can enjoy this movie more if you ever wanted to see it.

   

   

   Conoceremos a Craig (Jaeden Martel), un joven al quién perdió a su madre cuando era pequeño, viviendo solamente con su padre, este crece en un ambiente tranquilo y pacífico donde podremos notar que tiene una vida perfecta, pero su vida comienza a cambiar cuando entra en la universidad.

   Su vida comienza a cambiar cuando conoce a un amigo que lo ayudara mucho en sus malos momentos, a pesar de la perdida que ha tenido él y su padre, este prefiere mantener su mente tranquila y no pensar en lo sucedido, por lo que nunca fue a ver la tumba de su madre cuando falleció, generando a este un poco de depresión por pensar que su madre aún está viva y que se fue solamente de viaje, pero en el fondo siempre se siente solo por no tener la pieza fundamental que lo motive a seguir adelante, en este caso su madre.

   We will meet Craig (Jaeden Martel), a young man who lost his mother when he was little, living only with his father, he grows up in a quiet and peaceful environment where we can notice that he has a perfect life, but his life begins to change when he enters college.
   His life begins to change when he meets a friend who will help him a lot in his bad times, despite the loss that he and his father have had, he prefers to keep his mind quiet and not think about what happened, so he never went to see the grave of his mother when she died, generating this a little depression to think that his mother is still alive and that she just went on a trip, but deep down he always feels lonely for not having the fundamental piece that motivates him to move forward, in this case his mother.

   

   

   ¿Quién es el señor Harrigan?

   El señor Harrigan es un hombre de avanzada edad que contraria los servicios de Craig para leerle todos los días un libro y que ganara dinero por hacerlo, debido a su avanzada edad, el señor Harrigan no tiene muy buena la vista, por lo que es un hombre que le encanta leer y analizar todos los libros que tiene en su biblioteca.

   También es el hombre más rico del poblado donde vive Craig, teniendo una inteligencia muy buena para manejar todo tipo de negocios.

   Harrigan y Craig se conocieron en una iglesia de domingo donde Craig leía algunos versículos de la Biblia, Harrigan noto la buena habilidad que tiene Craig para la lectura y momentos después se dirigió a su casa para contratar sus servicios.

   Who is Mr. Harrigan?

   Mr. Harrigan is an elderly man who hires Craig's services to read him a book every day and earn money for doing so, due to his advanced age, Mr. Harrigan does not have very good eyesight, so he is a man who loves to read and analyze all the books he has in his library.
   He is also the richest man in the village where Craig lives, having a very good intelligence to handle all kinds of business.

   Harrigan and Craig met in a Sunday church where Craig was reading some Bible verses, Harrigan noticed Craig's good reading skills and moments later went to his house to hire his services.

   

   

   Pasa el tiempo y veremos crecer a Craig, quien ya se encuentra en la universidad, al principio de la universidad veremos que la película se transforma en una historia de un chico que va a la universidad, le hacen bullying y ya sabemos muy bien como termina ese tipo de historias, pero en realidad no es así.

   Resulta que la película trata de hacer que te adaptes a ella, ya que al principio todo se ve normal y tranquilo, pero el verdadero suspenso comienza más adelante.

   Time goes by, and we will see Craig grow up, who is already in college, at the beginning of college we will see that the movie turns into a story of a kid who goes to college, he gets bullied, and we already know very well how that kind of story ends, but in reality it is not like that.
   It turns out that the movie tries to make you adapt to it, since at the beginning everything looks normal and calm, but the real suspense starts later on.

   

   

   Sinceramente, la película es un poco emotiva, porque en algunas ocasiones veremos el trato que tiene Craig con su padre y el señor Harrigan, a pesar de que Craig solo tiene a su padre y al señor Harrigan, se siente muy feliz de tenerlos a ambos y el apoyo que le dan para que Craig cumpla sus objetivos.

   Incluso en los momentos donde la tensión entre Craig y el señor Harrigan se hacen bastante grande, los actores transmiten un sentimiento bastante fuerte, incluso en los momentos emotivos casi me hicieron llorar, porque esta película te sumerge en la historia de tal manera que te hace pensar que la estas viviendo.

   Honestly, the movie is a bit emotional, because in some occasions we will see the deal that Craig has with his father and Mr. Harrigan, even though Craig only has his father and Mr. Harrigan, he feels very happy to have them both and the support they give him so Craig can accomplish his goals.

   Even in the moments where the tension between Craig and Mr. Harrigan become quite big, the actors transmit a quite strong feeling, even in the emotional moments they almost made me cry, because this movie immerses you in the story in such a way that makes you think you are living it.

   

   

   A medida que vayamos viendo esta película, le tomaremos más cariño, porque uno de los aspectos más fenomenales de ella es el valor de la amistad.

   A pesar de que el señor Harrigan tiene todo el dinero del mundo, Craig le dará el regalo más grande que nadie le ha dado jamás al señor Harrigan, momento donde la amistad entre ellos se hace más grande.

   Pero si quieres saber del suspenso y terror que incluso te erizara la piel, deberás ver lo que sucede después de entregarle Craig el regalo al señor Harrigan, pero también tenemos el drama que nos puede ofrecer esta película, puesto que es muy buena.

   As we watch this movie, we will become more attached to it, because one of the most phenomenal aspects of it is the value of friendship.
   Even though Mr. Harrigan has all the money in the world, Craig will give Mr. Harrigan the greatest gift anyone has ever given him, a moment where their friendship grows stronger.
   But if you want to know the suspense and terror that will even make your skin crawl, you will have to see what happens after Craig gives the gift to Mr. Harrigan, but we also have the drama that this movie can offer us, since it is very good.

   

   

   Perder a un ser querido es lo más doloroso que podemos tener como sentimiento en esta vida, ya sea un amigo o un familiar, nos deprimimos durante un tiempo hasta que las heridas sanen, pero hay heridas que no sanan y nos acompañaran en la gran parte de nuestras vidas, porque siempre tendremos los recuerdos de esos momentos tan maravillosos que vivimos al lado de esa persona, incluso recordar las cosas que siempre quisiste hacer y que nunca pudiste.

   Esta película me ha dejado muy pensativo a pesar del suspenso que tiene, con esto no quiero decir que podamos ver escenas desagradables de terror, sino que suceden cosas un poco paranormales que van más allá de nuestro entendimiento.

   De verdad que la película me ha parecido muy bueno y se las recomiendo al 110%, tiene muchas cosas que podemos tomar como aprendizaje y a tenerle valor a nuestros seres queridos, porque cuando no están es que nos daremos de cuenta de lo mucho que lo necesitamos o que lo queremos.

   Esta pelicula se encuentra en la tienda de Netflix, también te dejaré el tráiler de la película para que puedas ver lo que nos puede ofrecer.

   Losing a loved one is the most painful thing we can have as a feeling in this life, whether a friend or a family member, we get depressed for a while until the wounds heal, but there are wounds that do not heal and will accompany us in most of our lives, because we will always have the memories of those wonderful moments we lived next to that person, even remember the things you always wanted to do and never could.
   
   This movie has left me very thoughtful despite the suspense it has, with this I do not mean that we can see unpleasant scenes of terror, but things happen a little paranormal that go beyond our understanding.
   I really found the movie very good, and I recommend it 110%, it has many things that we can take as learning and to have value to our loved ones, because when they are not there is that we will realize how much we need or want it.

   Hoy como es de rutina vamos a escudriñar una nueva película de suspenso que me he deleitado la noche pasada.

   Today as is routine we are going to scrutinize a new thriller that I enjoyed last night.

   "El celular del señor Harrigan" es el titulo de esta nueva trama que mezcla la ciencia ficción con la realidad sobre el poder y el dinero. Si bien al inicio de la misma puede ser un poco "aburrida", hay muchos mensajes y frases claves que aparte de dejarnos una enseñanza nos permite descubrir o tener una idea de los eventos que se llevan a cabo en el transcurso de la película.

   "Mr. Harrigan's Cell Phone" is the title of this new plot that mixes science fiction with reality about power and money. While it may be a bit "boring" at the beginning, there are many key messages and phrases that besides leaving us with a lesson, allow us to discover or have an idea of the events that take place during the course of the film.

   Una de las cosas con la que me pude identificar es el hecho de que el joven utilizaba su nuevo trabajo de lectura para olvidar su realidad, puesto que alguien importante para él había fallecido algo que por supuesto cambio su vida y la de su padre.

   One of the things I could identify with is the fact that the young man used his new reading job to forget his reality, since someone important to him had passed away, something that of course changed his life and that of his father.

   

   Siendo a penas un niño desde que comenzó dicha labor, para él era más fácil tener ese escape mental además que disfrutaba lo que hacia.

   Being just a child since he began this work, it was easier for him to have that mental escape and he enjoyed what he was doing.

   El tiempo paso y creció aun al lado del señor Harrigan a quien le seguía leyendo 3 veces a la semana y recibiendo del mismo algún obsequio, que en su mayoría era un boleto de lotería del cual no entendí la referencia. Digo esto porque creo que toda la trama en si tiene una razón de ser o al menos yo lo sentí de ese modo.

   Time went by and he grew up next to Mr. Harrigan to whom he kept reading 3 times a week and receiving from him some gift, which was mostly a lottery ticket of which I didn't understand the reference. I say this because I think the whole plot itself has a reason for being or at least I felt that way.

   Para mi el personaje de Harrigan es que siempre fue una persona muy inteligente al dejar a un lado lo que no era necesario y por supuesto no ser del gusto de todo mundo, todo con el objetivo de tener el poder y de enfrentar de frente los diversos hechos.

   For me Harrigan's character is that he was always a very smart person to put aside what was not necessary and of course not to be liked by everyone, all with the aim of having power and to face the various facts head on.

   Algo que quiso y de cierto modo le inculco a este joven que más que un amigo era como su segundo padre quien le aconsejaba de una forma brusca pero sabia, tomando en cuenta que ha tenido muchas experiencias de vida.

   Something that he wanted and in a way he instilled in this young man that more than a friend was like his second father who advised him in a rough but wise way, taking into account that he has had many life experiences.

   

   No tengo la total certeza de ello, pero creo que cada una de las historias que leyeron juntos tenían que ver con la vida pasada del señor Harrigan y conectadas igualmente a la vida de este joven.

   I am not absolutely certain of this, but I believe that each of the stories they read together had to do with Mr. Harrigan's past life and connected equally to this young man's life.

   Había algo entre los dos que hacían que se conectaran y extrañasen las tardes de lectura juntos. Por una parte el señor Harrigan pudo haber tenido cierta conexión por este joven que no tenia ninguna otra razón de leerle más que el dinero que necesitaba, sin embargo, a medida de cada lectura fueron conociéndose, y de cierto modo eran un espejo uno del otro.

   There was something between the two of them that made them connect and miss the afternoons of reading together. On the one hand Mr. Harrigan may have had some connection for this young man who had no reason to read to him other than the money he needed, however, as each reading went on they got to know each other, and in a way they were a mirror of each other.

   

   El punto escalofriante de esta trama inicia una vez que el señor Harrigan muere, y con él se van las tardes y escape del joven quien usa su móvil para llamarlo cada vez que necesita hablar con alguien o tiene un problema.

   The chilling point of this plot begins once Mr. Harrigan dies, and with him go the evenings and escape of the young man who uses his cell phone to call him every time he needs to talk to someone or has a problem.

   La cuestión es que desde ese momento empiezan a ocurrir sucesos que una vez fueron deseos por parte de este joven, quien cree que de una forma u otra el señor Harrigan tiene algo que ver con lo que estaba pasando.

   The point is that from that moment on events begin to occur that were once wishes on the part of this young man, who believes that in one way or another Mr. Harrigan has something to do with what was going on.

   Esta trama en general tiene muchos puntos importantes para las personas en la vida real. Lo primero es que las personas muertas deben ser enterradas con los bolsillos vacíos, ya que los muertos no son santos y por supuesto, si llamas a un muerto no esperes a que no ocurra algún tipo de respuesta, por lo mismo, el deseo y aferramiento hacia alguien pudiera hacer que este no descanse en paz.

   This plot in general has many important points for people in real life. The first is that dead people should be buried with empty pockets, since the dead are not saints and of course, if you call a dead person don't wait for some kind of response, therefore, the desire and clinging to someone could make them not rest in peace.

   Claro, eso si realmente existiera, yo por mi parte, creo que los muertos simplemente duermen para siempre.

   Of course, that is if it really existed, I for one, believe that the dead simply sleep forever.

   Lo que si es indudable es que este joven y el señor Harrigan tenían una amistad muy profunda y sobre todo genuina.

   What is certain is that this young man and Mr. Harrigan had a very deep and above all genuine friendship.

   ## WHAT IS THE STORY ABOUT?
   It all started when a boy who has lost his mom did the reading at their small village's church. This little boy caught a rich man's, Mr. Harrigan, attention. This rich man's vision isn't how it used to be and he somehow hired this little boy to read him some books.
   From then, the little boy named "Craig" started going to Mr. Harrigan's place a couple times a week to read him a book. This situation went on for a long time that their relationship has improved as well.

   Craig started attending high school in the next town. And in this high school, your status depends on what phone you have. Just like any other teenager, he also wanted to fit in. Eventually, he was able to get himself a smartphone.
   Aside from books, he and Mr. Harrigan bonded over there phones until the latter's final breath. Craig was saddened by the death of his friend and tried to communicate with him through his phone when something weird started to happen.

   ## What Are My Thoughts About the Movie?
   Well, to be completely honest, I'm not very sure if I would categorize this as horror. I've read that this is based on a short story by Stephen King, but it's hardly a horror film. There wasn't any jump scares or other elements that would classify it as such. Though, there is a slight eerie feel to it.

   It's more of a heartwarming story of a friendship which is beyond status and age. It's about the grief a person undergoes when someone special left forever.
   I personally like the movie because I like these kinds of concept. The movie was able to portray the stages of grief a person experience from Denial to Anger, to Bargaining, Depression and lastly, Acceptance.
   I believe what Craig experienced in the movie is pretty relatable to people who has lost someone special in their life.
   If you're expecting some horror vibes, I'm sorry but this isn't really the movie for you. However, I'd still recommend it. It may not be one of my faves, but I'm willing to rewatch this when I have some free time. :)

   Aprovechando que estamos en el mes del terror y que cada vez estamos más cerca de Halloween decidí que muchas de las cosas que vea durante este octubre serán del género que más me gusta ver pero también del que más decepcionado puedo salir. Estoy cansado de decir que el término de terror no se puede tomar a la ligera, a todo lo que tenga un trasfondo sobrenatural no se le puede considerar dentro del género como tampoco a esas historias que involucran un misterio perenne y que nos hace preguntarnos y cuestionarnos muchas cosas durante el film. Y ese fue el error que cometieron los encargados de catalogar esta película, nos venden una trama terrorífica cuando la realidad es que estamos ante un drama común y corriente.

   Taking advantage of the fact that we are in the month of horror and that we are getting closer and closer to Halloween, I decided that many of the things I see during this October will be of the genre that I like to see the most, but also the one that I can be most disappointed with. I'm tired of saying that the term horror cannot be taken lightly, anything that has a supernatural background cannot be considered within the genre nor those stories that involve a perennial mystery that makes us wonder and question many things during the film. And that was the mistake made by those in charge of cataloging this film, they sell us a terrifying plot when the reality is that we are facing an ordinary drama.

   También lo he comentado por acá pero soy de las personas que ve los tráilers y muy por encima lee las crítica por lo que decir que me sorprendió sería mentir pero si es verdad que esperaba otra cosa, quise darle la oportunidad de que me hiciera cambiar de opinión pero tristemente eso estuvo muy lejos de hacerse realidad. Lo contradictorio? - que la película en sí no es tan mala solo que NO ES DE TERROR; me cuesta entender, o bueno en realidad no, el por qué del engaño y el querer mostrar algo que está muy alejado del verdadero terror. Supongo que se escudan con decir que es una historia de Stephen King y allí la gente cae en la trampa. Pero bueno, hablemos un poco de esta trama y de qué va...

   I've also commented on it here but I'm one of those people who watch the trailers and read the reviews, so to say that I was surprised would be a lie, but it's true that I expected something else, I wanted to give it a chance to change my mind but sadly that was far from being true. The contradiction? - That the movie itself is not so bad, it's just NOT TERROR; I find it hard to understand, or well not really, why they are deceiving me and wanting to show something that is far away from true horror. I guess they shield themselves by saying that it is a Stephen King story and there people fall into the trap. But well, let's talk a little about this plot and what it's about...

   La historia da comienzo con Craig (Jaeden Martell), un joven que vive en un pequeño pueblo de esos que son sumamente comunes en Estados Unidos. Él es muy inteligente, un chico normal que va al colegio, buen estudiante y persona y que la lectura se la da particularmente muy bien. Un buen día en una de las misas del pueblo es observado por el Sr Harrigan (Donald Sutherland), un hombre bastante mayor y con mucho dinero, pudiéramos decir que es multimillonario, pero muy solitario también y es a raíz de eso que se fija en Craig. Al tener tanta gracia para leer el Sr Harrigan decide que el joven trabaje para él leyéndole libros por varios días a la semana, Craig accede y es en ese momento cuando comienza una muy bonita amistad.

   The story begins with Craig (Jaeden Martell), a young man who lives in one of those small towns that are extremely common in the United States. He is very intelligent, a normal boy who goes to school, a good student and person and who is particularly good at reading. One day at one of the town's masses he is observed by Mr. Harrigan (Donald Sutherland), a very old man with a lot of money, we could say he is a multimillionaire, but also very lonely and it is because of this that he notices Craig. Having so much grace to read Mr. Harrigan decides that the young man works for him reading books for several days a week, Craig agrees and it is at that moment when a very nice friendship begins.

   Pasaron los años y Craig siempre iba a casa de Sr Harrigan a leer, la amistad que habían cosechado ya era entrañable, una que tenía como eje los libros y teléfono celular; por un lado este joven tenía sus motivos para nunca faltar y el hombre mayor tenía los suyos para continuar con el arreglo al que había llegado con Craig años anteriores. Hasta que un día todo cambió y como era evidente el Sr Harrigan muere lo que representa un golpe anímico importante para Craig; pero la cuestión acá es que al momento de su entierro el Sr Harrigan es sepultado con su teléfono, uno que tiene un trasfondo que verán en el film. Esto no sería extraño si Craig debido la tristeza intentara llamar a su amigo muerto y este recibiera una respuesta...

   Years went by and Craig always went to Mr. Harrigan's house to read, the friendship they had developed was already a close one, one that had books and cell phones as its axis; on the one hand this young man had his reasons to never miss and the older man had his own reasons to continue with the arrangement he had reached with Craig years before. Until one day everything changed and as was evident Mr. Harrigan dies which represents a major emotional blow to Craig; but the point here is that at the time of his burial Mr. Harrigan is buried with his phone, one that has a background that you will see in the film. This would not be strange if Craig, out of sadness, tried to call his dead friend and he received an answer...

   Este film lo puede ser todo menos terror, podemos ver un drama importante, intriga porque siempre hay como un aura del no saber exactamente qué está pasando y hasta un misterio ya que este iría de la mano con lo anterior. Se busca crear una atmósfera como que si algo del más allá estuviera sucediendo o estuviera a punto de pasar pero la realidad es que nada ocurre, si esperas encontrarte con algún jump scare a lo largo de la trama pues lamento decepcionarte que eso no ocurrirá y es que la historia se pudiera prestar para eso pero creo que le llevaron por otro camino. Un camino que va más con todo lo que tiene que ver con las relaciones interpersonales y familiares, el valor intrínseco de una amistad, el lidiar con la pérdida de una persona, es decir, siento que va mucho sobre el cómo reaccionamos ante la muerte; ella es el centro de todo aquí.

   This film can be anything but horror, we can see an important drama, intrigue because there is always like an aura of not knowing exactly what is happening and even a mystery as this would go hand in hand with the above. It seeks to create an atmosphere as if something from beyond was happening or was about to happen but the reality is that nothing happens, if you expect to find some jump scare throughout the plot I'm sorry to disappoint you that this will not happen and the story could lend itself to that but I think they took another path. A path that goes more with everything that has to do with interpersonal and family relationships, the intrinsic value of a friendship, dealing with the loss of a person, that is, I feel it goes a lot about how we react to death; she is the center of everything here.

   La película empieza dándonos un poco de contexto sobre los personajes principales, como son, qué hacen para después poco a poco ir desarrollando todas las relaciones que acá llegamos a ver. Es muy probable que al principio te parezca lenta pero te cuento que ese el ritmo de toda la película, lo raro es que por lo menos yo no me aburrí y es que cuando entendí que esto no es lo que esperaba pues como que me resigné y la comencé a ver con otros ojos y fue acá donde la historia se deja ver. Tampoco voy a decir que la disfruté pero repito, el grave error fue haberla vendido como algo que ni en un millón de años va a hacer, una historia de miedo.

   The film starts giving us a little context about the main characters, how they are, what they do and then gradually develop all the relationships that we get to see here. It is very likely that at first it seems slow but I tell you that this is the rhythm of the whole film, the strange thing is that at least I did not get bored and when I understood that this is not what I expected, I kind of resigned myself and began to see it with different eyes and it was here where the story is seen. I'm not going to say that I enjoyed it but I repeat, the big mistake was to have sold it as something that never in a million years is going to do, a scary story.

   Como ya les decía se intenta crear un ambiente "tenebroso" y "lúgubre" detrás de toda la historia del día a día de Craig, uno que por momentos se aprecia pero que en su mayoría terminan siendo clichés quedan en la nada sin aportar en lo absoluto. La trama es narrada bajo la perspectiva del joven, él va contando lo que va pasando y sobre eso se va dando la película, cual si fuera un cuento. No hay sangre, no hay violencia, no hay clifhanger ni mucho menos pilot twist, es una historia plana que termina sin resolver o aclarar nada. OJO, no he leído el libro correspondiente de Stephen King por lo que la historia original la desconozco, solo opino del film y este es uno que si no fuese por las actuaciones de los protagonistas, la verdad es que estuviéramos ante una película más del montón.

   As I said, an attempt is made to create a "gloomy" and "gloomy" atmosphere behind the whole story of Craig's day to day life, one that at times is appreciated but mostly end up being clichés that come to nothing without contributing at all. The plot is narrated from the perspective of the young man, he tells what is happening and that is what the film is about, as if it were a story. There is no blood, no violence, no cliffhanger or even less pilot twist, it is a flat story that ends without resolving or clarifying anything. I have not read the corresponding book by Stephen King so I don't know the original story, I only give my opinion of the film and this is one that if it were not for the performances of the protagonists, the truth is that we would be in front of a movie more of the heap.

   Hay que tener en cuenta que Donald Sutherland tiene 87 años, capaz uno menos al momento de grabar esta película y aún así sigue siendo un referente en la actuación. Para lo que es este film me gustó bastante su personaje, un hombre solitario, que tiene fama de ser una persona dura pero que el fondo no es más que un hombre viejo en una gran mansión. La premisa de la película nos invita a pensar que hay algo oculto en él y que todo lo que sucede es por él, algo inexplicable y puede que así sea pero bueno, tendrán que ver la película para sacar sus propias conclusiones.

   It should be noted that Donald Sutherland is 87 years old, maybe one year younger at the time of shooting this film, and yet he is still a reference in acting. For what this film is, I quite liked his character, a lonely man, who has the reputation of being a tough person but who deep down is nothing more than an old man in a big mansion. The premise of the film invites us to think that there is something hidden in him and that everything that happens is because of him, something inexplicable and it may be so but well, you will have to see the film to draw your own conclusions.

   También hay que hablar de Jaeden Martell quien hizo una papel un poco pesado porque su personaje es uno que ha pasado por muchas cosas en la historia, una pérdida familiar y la de su gran amigo, acoso escolar, el querer encajar en una sociedad donde todo se mide por la marca del teléfono que tengas, porque si, siento que hay una crítica social sobre ese tema lo que al final lleva a Craig a buscar consuelo en su amigo fallecido. Es un joven triste pero con unas ganas de superarse muy grandes, más que por el mismo por aquellos que lo rodean. Empatizas muchos con ambos personajes la verdad y eso es lo que más rescato de este film.

   We must also talk about Jaeden Martell who played a role a little heavy because his character is one who has gone through many things in the story, a family loss and that of his great friend, bullying, wanting to fit into a society where everything is measured by the brand of phone you have, because yes, I feel there is a social criticism on that issue which ultimately leads Craig to seek solace in his deceased friend. He is a sad young man but with a great desire to better himself, more than for himself for those around him. You empathize a lot with both characters and that is what I most appreciate about this film.

   En fin, un film que es un drama puro muy alejado del terror y del suspenso que se pensaba. Se puede ver pero para mi se quedó corto, no tanto en su desarrollo pero si en su desenlace, hubo algo que no me terminó convenciendo. Le doy un 6/10 porque no voy a decir que es terrible pero de las mejores no serán ni mucho menos. La pueden encontrar en Netflix y tiene una duración de menos de dos horas. Otra vez Netflix haciendo las cosas regulares... Les dejo el tráiler para que le echen un vistazo.

   In short, a film that is a pure drama very far from the horror and suspense that it was thought to be. It can be seen but for me it fell short, not so much in its development but in its outcome, there was something that did not convince me. I give it a 6/10 because I'm not going to say it's terrible but it won't be one of the best, far from it. You can find it on Netflix and it's less than two hours long. Again Netflix doing the regular stuff.... I leave the trailer for you to take a look.

   I am not the hugest fan of Steven King, but I have enjoyed lots of his books. As for the film/tv adaptations, they are always a hit and miss, but I always watch them when a new one comes to my attention.

   And thus we come to "Mr Harrigans Phone" that just popped on Netflix:

   Craig, a young boy living in a small town, befriends older, reclusive billionaire, Mr. Harrigan. The two form a bond over books and an iPhone, but when the man passes away, the boy discovers that not everything dead is gone, and finds himself able to communicate with his friend from the grave through the iPhone that was buried with him. source

   Long story short. The film wasn't great. But it wasn't terrible either.

   I really loved how everything was narrated up to the point of Harrigans death. I am not much of a drama fan but I think they nailed that part.

   Then it's when the genre changes to the more super natural/creepy stuff.. The part we are actually waiting for!

   Yet, it didn't hit the right spots and the movie felt to me really meh. And often it felt like it was dragging for no reason. When it was over, my first thought was "this gotta be based on a short story".. Something quickly confirmed by the credits.

   At the end of the day, this is more a coming of age movie rather than something horror you'd expect when watching something based on Steven King's work. There are also some subliminal messages about human relationships, love etc etc. But yeah, fuck that, who cares 😂

   Anyways.. The movie starts great but ends up being another forgettable Steven King adaptation. It takes a 5/10 from me. What a pity 😔

El día de hoy quiero venir hablarles sobre una película recién salida del horno por parte de Tío Netflix y hablo del “Teléfono del Señor Harrigans”, una película de Suspenso, Terror psicológico y drama, la verdad tiene mucho de este último y aquí va mi opinión referente a él.

Today I want to come talk to you about a movie just out of the oven by Uncle Netflix and I'm talking about "Mr. Harrigans Phone", a movie of Suspense, Psychological Horror and drama, the truth has a lot of the latter and here goes my opinion regarding it.

   Entre el reparto tenemos Jaeden Martell como nuestro protagonista Craing, Donald Sutherland como el nombrado Mr. Harrigan, Kirby Howell-Baptiste como la querida Mr.Hat entre otros actores que realmente son como relleno, la película en si va de un niño el cual vive en un pequeño pueblo con su padre ya que su madre murió hace varios años, entonces un día un señor mayor rico le ofrece empleo para que le lea tres veces a la semana, pasan 5 años y Craing crea un vínculo con Mr.Harrigan que incluso llega a pasar las líneas entre la vida y la muerte ¿no?

   Among the cast we have Jaeden Martell as our protagonist Craing, Donald Sutherland as the named Mr. Harrigan, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as the beloved Mr.Hat among other actors who are really like filler, the movie itself is about a boy who lives in a small town with his father since his mother died several years ago, then one day a rich older gentleman offers him a job to read to him three times a week, 5 years pass and Craing creates a bond with Mr.Harrigan that even crosses the lines between life and death doesn't it?

   La verdad quiero hablar de algo que me inquietaba y es que puedo jurar que iba a dejar esta película a medias porque no soy fanática del terror y si se veía que tenía esa pinta, pero a medida que fue viéndola me gusto, sobre todo por los personajes. Craing no me pareció un mal protagonista, me gusto el hecho de que era bueno y le gustaba compartir, tenía sueños y simplemente se sentía solo aunque si vemos bien podemos decir que tenía un lado turbio aunque…tal vez lo explique más abajo. Con respecto al señor Mr.Harrigan es un estereotipo de viejo millonario solitario, no sé si yo es que no me resisto a un abuelo pero no me callo mal, justo antes de su muerte o sea antes de esa parte de la película sentí que tenía las mejores líneas del guión, dijo muchas verdades sobre todo relacionados con la tecnología.

   The truth is that I want to talk about something that made me uneasy and I can swear that I was going to leave this movie halfway because I'm not a horror fan and if it looked like it had that look, but as I was watching it I liked it, especially for the characters. Craing didn't seem to me a bad protagonist, I liked the fact that he was good and liked to share, he had dreams and just felt lonely although if we see well we can say that he had a shady side although...maybe I'll explain it below. Regarding Mr.Harrigan is a stereotypical lonely old millionaire, I don't know if I just can't resist a grandfather but he didn't shut me up badly, just before his death or before that part of the movie I felt he had the best lines of the script, he told a lot of truths especially related to technology.

   Con referente a la película no me dio miedo la primera hora puedo decir que fue muy amena me gustó mucho los fragmentos que leía Craing de libros como “Historia de dos ciudades”, “Jungla”, “Crimen y castigo” entre otros libros. La muerte de Mr.Harrigan si me puso triste, me simpatizo bastante a pesar de que sabía que se iba a morir no dejo que se me saliera una lagrima sobre todo en la escena que Craing le lee en ese momento siento que nos demuestran de cierta manera el vínculo y por qué después los acontecimientos que suceden, sacando este lado de la película si me dio miedo el resto era mucho de suspenso y al final si esperaba que me aclararan varias cosas, por eso los últimos 20 minutos me lo vi dos veces.

   Regarding the movie, I was not afraid of the first hour, I can say that it was very entertaining, I really liked the fragments that Craing read from books like "A Tale of Two Cities", "Jungle", "Crime and Punishment" among other books. Mr. Harrigan's death made me sad, I sympathized a lot even though I knew he was going to die I did not let a tear come out especially in the scene that Craing read to him at that moment I feel that they show us in a certain way the link and why then the events that happen, taking out this side of the film if it scared me the rest was very suspenseful and at the end if I expected to clarify several things, so the last 20 minutes I saw it twice.

   En la información que nos brinda Netflix de la película pude ver que se basaba en un libro, investigando me di cuenta que se trata de un relato del libro de Stephen King “La Sangre Manda” hay como que todo tiene sentido, nunca he leído algo de él porque no he tenido los pantalones la verdad soy muy asustadiza y no sé si pueda aguantar un libro de terror, pero viendo esto la verdad siento que el teléfono es una metáfora y una crítica social referente a la tecnología, la verdad esto es paranormal así que no pretendo buscarle sentido en cómo se podían comunicar pero lo que sí puedo decir es que si analizamos las escenas, la promesa que el señor Mr.Harrigan le hizo hacer a Craing y en la forma o los detalles que nos muestran en las muertes nos podemos dar de cuenta o pienso yo que eso no lo hizo un muerto si no alguien que estaba vivo y tenía miedo o ira… o por lo menos eso me hizo pensar la escena final en la tumba de la madre, pero esta película de verdad que nos deja un final al entendimiento del espectador así que lo que digo puede estar tan errado como en lo cierto, le doy un 8/10 no tengo quejas la verdad me gusto bastante a pesar de que he visto que no es del agrado de los fanáticos del escritor, así que puede ser una opinión bastante impopular pero creo que es porque no soy fanática del terror así que me centre en otros aspectos de la historia.

   In the information provided by Netflix about the movie I could see that it was based on a book, researching I realized that it is a story of Stephen King's book "Blood Rules" there is like everything makes sense, I have never read anything by him because I have not had the pants the truth I am very scary and I do not know if I can stand a horror book, but seeing this I really feel that the phone is a metaphor and a social criticism regarding technology, the truth is paranormal so I do not pretend to look for sense in how they could communicate but what I can say is that if we analyze the scenes, the promise that Mr. Mr. Harrigan made Mr. Harrigan make to Craven, the promise that Mr. Harrigan made to Mr. Harrigan, the promise that Mr. Harrigan made to Mr. Craven. Harrigan made him do to Craing and in the way or the details that show us in the deaths we can realize or I think that this was not done by a dead man but by someone who was alive and was afraid or angry ... or at least that made me think the final scene at the grave of the mother, but this film really leaves an end to the understanding of the viewer so what I say can be as wrong as right, I give it an 7/10 I have no complaints the truth I liked it a lot although I have seen that it is not to the liking of the writer's fans, so it may be a rather unpopular opinion but I think it is because I am not a horror fan so I focused on other aspects of the story.

   I have always enjoyed the adaptations that have been made of literary works of Stephen King, because I grew up with them, both in movies and reading the stories, but this; this did not deserve if I wanted it to be idealized, and it seemed to me a serious fault that the suspensory plot of the original was not respected.

   Netflix always fails in its productions, sometimes it doesn't and gets it right, but when it's the opposite case, the consequences reach a level, which is endangering it as the most requested streaming platform. This seems to be the kind of movies that are overrated, because as we know, if something is liked by many people does not mean it is of quality, it simply had better support and funding. That happens in all facets of art, even within this platform.

   Yo siempre he disfrutado de las adaptaciones que se han hecho de obras literarias de Stephen King, porque crecí con ellas, tanto en películas como leyendo los cuentos, pero esto; esto no merecía si quisiera que se idealizara, y me pareció una falta grave que no se respetara la trama suspensiva de la original.

   Netflix siempre falla en sus producciones, a veces no lo hace y acierta, pero cuando es el caso contrario, las consecuencias llegan a un nivel, que va peligrando como plataforma de streaming más solicitada. Este parece del tipo de películas que son sobrevaloradas, porque como bien sabemos, si algo le gusta a mucha gente no quiere decir que sea de calidad, simplemente tuvo mejor apoyo y financiación. Eso ocurre en todas las facetas del arte, incluso dentro de esta plataforma.

   

   

   Technical Data

   Not to mention the production behind it, when I realized who they were, I understood many things about why this adaptation came out so bad. Starting with the production company: Blumhouse, which, although I believe that not all their productions are not all bad, I think they would have opted for better and functional ideas. We also have Ryan Murphy among the production, this doesn't change anything either. I consider Murphy to be an overrated average director. None of his productions have managed to fascinate me, maybe the recent series about Jeffrey Dahmer, but it hasn't left me hooked either. I don't hold him in high esteem as a filmmaker, everything he does gradually loses interest for me until I forget it.

   The director of Mr. Harrigan's Phone, his name is John Lee Hancock; I don't know him and in reviewing a bit of his film career as a director, I haven't heard of or seen any of the films he's directed either. It's like he just appeared out of nowhere. This man was the screenwriter for this film, based on the short story of the same name by Stephen King, which it seems he wouldn't have understood, as his vision is further removed from the genre of the original work.

   In the cast we have Jaeden Martell as Craig, known for his performance in the horrible remake of It, a film as bad as this one, although with some good points that can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Then we have Donald Sutherland as Mr. Harrigan, a living movie legend, and I must say, his performance was one of the favorable ones, because only two were good. Kirby Howell-Baptiste as the teacher Ms. Hart. Joe Tippett, as Craig's father, among other actors not worth mentioning much.

   The film was distributed by Netflix with a running time of 105 minutes. It was released earlier this year on October 5.

   Ni hablar de la producción detrás, al darme cuenta de quienes eran, entendí muchas cosas de porque esta adaptación salió tan mala. Empezando por la empresa productora: Blumhouse, que, aunque creo que no todas sus producciones son del todo malas, pienso que hubieran optado por ideas mejores y funcionales. También tenemos a Ryan Murphy entre la producción, esto tampoco cambia nada. Considero a Murphy como un director promedio demasiado sobrevalorado. Ninguna de sus producciones ha logrado fascinarme, quizás la serie reciente sobre Jeffrey Dahmer, pero tampoco me ha dejado enganchado. No le tengo mucha estima como director de cine, todo lo que él hace pierde paulatinamente el interés para mí hasta olvidarlo.

   El director de Mr. Harrigan's Phone, se llama John Lee Hancock; no lo conozco y al revisar un poco su carrera cinematográfica como director, tampoco he escuchado o visto ninguna de las películas que ha dirigido. Es como si hubiera aparecido de la nada. Este hombre fue el guionista de este filme, basándose en el cuento corto homónimo de Stephen King, el cual parece que no lo hubiera comprendido, pues su visión está más alejada del género de la obra original.

   En el elenco actoral tenemos como papel protagónico a Jaeden Martell como Craig, conocido por su actuación en el horrible remake de It, película tan mala como esta, aunque con algunos puntos a favor que se pueden contar con los dedos de una sola mano. Luego tenemos a Donald Sutherland como el Mr. Harrigan, una leyenda del cine viviente, y debo decir, que su interpretación fue una de las favorables, porque solo dos estuvieron bien. Kirby Howell-Baptiste como la maestra Ms. Hart. Joe Tippett, como el padre de Craig, entre otros actores que no vale mucho la pena mencionar.

   La película fue distribuida por Netflix con una duración de 105 minutos. Fue estrenada este mismo año el 5 de octubre.

   Plot and opinion

   I have no problem with the story, in fact I found it very interesting, so it is a pity that they did not know how to expose it at the height. A boy named Craig, gets a job reading literary works to one of the richest elders in his town (the film does not explain very well why this happens). Mr. Harrigan is known by many people to be a stern and firm man. He is hated by many and loved by few, however, in this film I saw none of those negative aspects of his personality, and if they manifested, they were almost unnoticeable.

   Craig reads to Mr. Harringan until one day the old man dies. At his funeral, Craig leaves Mr. Harringan's phone in his coffin, so that somehow, perhaps, he can continue to communicate with him in the afterlife since the boy misses him so much and liked spending time with him. I don't know, this plot didn't seem solid enough to me to do something like this, for a moment I thought 'catalepsy'; it would have been more interesting, but nothing like that happened.

   After this, Craig starts calling Mr. Harringan's number and leaving voicemails, until he gets a return message from the old man's cell phone and it scares the hell out of him. I tell all this about the plot because it's not a spoiler, it appears in the trailer and in many synopses as well. Craig begins to suspect that Mr. Harringan's spirit is communicating through his cell phone and committing illicit acts for him.

   Well, as I said earlier, I like the story, it has a lot of potential to become a horror film, and that was the main problem with this film. It didn't feel like a horror film, it felt like a drama film, with a supernatural element in the middle that only came and went a few times. The characters and their interaction with the environment, did not seem to be coupled. I felt neither empathy, nor contempt. It didn't make me feel anything.

   The only performances I can save, are those of Kirby Howell-Baptiste and Sutherland, the rest were so bad or frivolous that they seemed more like furniture in the set design. Not to mention that boy scorcher: Kenny, played by Cyrus Arnold, who appeared in some scenes to annoy the protagonist, but for no apparent reason, he just did it for the sake of it. It was obvious that the character had problems, but... they weren't even able to dig into that part of his psychology to better understand his strange behavior.

   Then, in the movie they criticize smartphones, like in the middle and at the end, which confused me because I didn't know if this whole movie was really an attack on cell phones and social networks, and if so, they did it very badly, since they would have touched on that background in a more functional way. It would have been better if the supernatural element of the story had been followed, but we only have snippets and a very 'family friendly' story that doesn't inspire you to continue watching it.

   Trama y opinión

   Con la historia no tengo ningún problema, es más me pareció muy interesante, por lo que es una pena que no la supieran exponer a la altura. Un chico llamado Craig, consigue trabajo leyéndole obras literarias a uno de los ancianos más ricos de su pueblo (la película no explica muy bien el por qué sucede esto). El señor Harrigan es conocido por mucha gente por ser un hombre severo y firme. Es odiado por muchos y amado por pocos, sin embargo, en este filme no vi nada de esos aspectos negativos en su personalidad, y si se manifestaron, fueron casi imperceptibles.

   Craig le lee al Señor Harringan hasta que un día el anciano muere. En su funeral, Craig deja el teléfono del Señor Harringan en su ataúd, para que, de alguna forma, quizás, seguir comunicándose con él en el más allá ya que el muchacho lo extraña mucho y le gustaba pasar tiempo con él. No lo sé, este argumento no me pareció lo suficientemente sólido como para hacer algo así, por un momento pensé en la ‘catalepsia’; hubiera sido más interesante, pero nada de eso ocurrió.

   Después de esto, Craig comienza a llamar al número del señor Harringan y a dejarle mensajes de voz, hasta que recibe un mensaje de vuelta del celular del anciano y eso lo asusta mucho. Cuento todo esto de la trama porque no es un spoiler, aparece en el tráiler y en muchas sinopsis también. Craig comienza a sospechar que el espíritu del señor Harringan se comunica a través de su celular y comete actos ilícitos para él.

   Bien, como dije anteriormente, la historia me gusta, tiene mucho potencial para convertirse en un filme de terror, y ese fue el problema principal con esta película. No parecía un filme de terror, sino de drama, con un elemento sobrenatural de por medio que solo iba y venía en contadas veces. Los personajes y su interacción con el entorno, no parecían estar acoplados. No sentí ni empatía, ni desprecio. No me hizo sentir nada.

   Las únicas actuaciones que puedo salvar, son las de Kirby Howell-Baptiste y Sutherland, el resto eran tan malas o frívolas que parecían más bien muebles en la escenografía. Ni hablar de ese chico buleador: Kenny, interpretado Cyrus Arnold, el cual aparecía en algunas escenas para molestar al protagonista, pero sin ninguna razón aparente, solo lo hacía porque sí. Era evidente que el personaje tenía problemas, pero… ni siquiera fueron capaces de indagar en esa parte de su psicología para entender mejor su extraño comportamiento.

   Luego, en la película hacen críticas a los smartphones, como a la mitad y al final, lo cual me confundió porque no sabía si en realidad todo este largometraje era un ataque hacia los celulares y las redes sociales, y si era así, lo hicieron muy mal, ya que se hubiera tocado ese trasfondo de otra manera más funcional. Hubiera calado mejor todo si se hubiese seguido el elemento sobrenatural de la historia, pero solo tenemos retazos y una historia muy ‘family friendly’ que no te inspira para nada seguir viéndola.

   Conclusions

   A terrible adaptation of a very interesting story by Stephen King, I haven't read the original work, but just glancing at the summary, I was quite intrigued. It's a shame they didn't know how to take advantage of it. That they also weren't able to fill in the gaps that are found throughout the film. Not to mention the sequence, in my opinion it goes too fast and does not end up explaining many things. I understand that it is an adaptation of a short story, but come on, there are people who make movies from novels of more than 600 pages and they are very good. Disappointing, I guess the original story is much more impacting than this, I will look for it so I won't be left with this bad digestion.

   Conclusiones

   Una terrible adaptación de un cuento muy interesante de Stephen King, no he leído la obra original, pero con solo echarle una ojeada al resumen, me intrigó bastante. Es una pena que no supieran aprovecharla. Que tampoco fuesen capaces de llenar los huecos que se encuentran a lo largo del filme. Ni hablar de la secuencia, en mi opinión va demasiado rápido y no termina de explicar muchas cosas. Entiendo que es una adaptación de un cuento corto, pero vamos, hay gente que hace películas de novelas de más de 600 páginas y les quedan muy bien. Decepcionante, supongo que la historia original es mucho más impactante que esto, la buscaré para no quedarme con esta mala digestión.
