  1. Mr.Queen ~ K-Drama Review.@treasuree328d

So one K-drama that had me literally glued to my screen was Mr. Queen, and see I actually did not know what to expect when I first started the drama, I just saw people talking about it online, and also the title sounded somehow, I mean, Mr. Queen? It felt like a mix-up from the start. ..But omo, from the very first episode, I was hooked. The drama is so unique, like a whole different vibe from the usual palace dramas, this one is not your normal “crown prince marries princess and fights war” kind of drama.

In Mr. Queen, the main character is actually a modern-day chef, a man actually, who gets into an accident and wakes up in the body of a queen in the Joseon era, I know it sounds crazy, but trust me, that is what makes it interesting, hmmm .. just imagine waking up one morning and you are in someone else’s body inside a palace, and not just anyone, but the Queen, that alone set the tone for pure chaos and laughter.

What I love most about the drama is how funny and dramatic it is at the same time, the actor who played the queen really nailed the performance, you could literally feel the energy of a man trapped in a woman’s body, shouting anyhow, eating aggressively, causing trouble in the palace like he was still in the 21st century, I laughed so much, especially with the way he (or she?) would forget he was now royalty and still behave like one tout. Lol ..

But aside from the comedy, the plot is actually deep, there’s palace politics, betrayal, romance, and plenty of secrets, I really liked how the Queen and King’s relationship started with hate and confusion and then slowly turned to trust and even love, you know K-drama people, they always know how to twist your heart somehow.

Now let me talk about why I think K-dramas are so popular.

For one, the storyline is always different, Whether it is about time travel, high school love, poor girl rich guy, zombies, lawyers, fantasy, or even aliens, there is always something fresh, You can be watching and thinking, “What kind of brain wrote this thing?” That is how creative they are.

Also, the production is always clean and sharp, like the visuals, the outfits, the makeup, even the food scenes, infact everything is on point, and then they will now add emotional soundtracks that will make you cry as if you were the one in the relationship.

Another reason I think people (especially Nigerians) love K-drama is because they really know how to build suspense, You will just finish one episode and be like, “Just one more,” and next thing you have already watched five episodes and it is 3 a.m. so addicting

Also, their characters are very lovable, even the villains, you will still like them somehow, and they know how to develop each character’s story in a way that makes you feel attached.

Back to Mr. Queen, I think it is ine of the funniest and most creative palace dramas that I have e ever seen, if you are someone that doesn’t really like historical dramas, you should still try this one because the modern twist makes it very relatable, You will laugh, you will be shocked, and you will probably cry once or twice.

All in all, K-dramas are just in a different league, and as for Mr. Queen, it is definitely a must-watch for anybody that wants to laugh and still enjoy a great storyline.

  2. Mr Queen@jeclyn60365d
Hello everyone, welcome to my blog. I would love to share a trailing movie I watched sometime ago. The name Mr Queen.

PLOT A modern day man gets reborn in the Joseon era into a Queen's body. His transformation of being a man and being reborn into a devastated Queen body who wants the King desperately.

Kim so young began to act differently from her usual self. She was care free this time and didn't care about the King. She even tried to get to one of his concubines and even suggested more concubines for him.

Kim so young having a man's mind but a lady's body was attracted to girls. She tried every means to get close to a girl but it was frustrating for him knowing he had a female body.

The storyline went on with dramatic turns, palace drama and throne. King Cheoljong the king became so attracted to Kim so young noticing the changes in her, she wasn't the uptight lady he knew her for and dramatic turns of her carefree and making nice delicacy. The man who was soul shifted into Kim so young was a modern day chef and loves cooking but then there is a terrible twist, King Cheoljong want a second chance with Kim so young who he treated terrible and his concubine noticing King Cheoljong attention have been driven to Kim so young tries to find a means to bring back King Cheoljong attention.

Kim so Young cooking made Queen Sunwom to love her so dearly and she couldn't enjoy more food than hers, each day she expected Kim so young food but danger lurks. Kim so young and King Cheoljong love are being tested. There is a threat of a side lover who conspired to have Kim so young by all means even if it means killing the king.

The one night kiss he had with her was an unforgettable experience and he rose to the highest position in the palace patiently waiting for a time to strike. The love story of the King and Queen grew hotter when they had a night together and coupled with the King's memory coming back. He swore he was going to kill everyone who conspired to kill his father when he was younger but then the Queen’s father is part of the conspiracy. What happens then? Will the burning fire of revenge make the King kill the father of the woman he fell desperately in love with?

The tension of the plot grew hotter when the Queen's soul returned to her body and being pregnant she had to sacrifice all she got to protect the person she loves. The Romeo and Juliet of this movie makes it more thrilling to watch and just couldn't stop watching more series. It was hilarious at some point especially when the soul of a man was trying to fit in in a woman's body. He tried every means to go back to his body including drowning but each time he was still in a woman's body and had no choice but to accept his fate and lived his life like it was his last but danger lurks. Not everyone is happy to see the Queen smile again. IMDB

  3. Review Of Mr Queen Kdrama@burlarj1191d

I should have watch this film few years ago when it came out but i think it won't be interesting and end up skipping it for another.. Recently a friend recommended it again to me and she even added it is one of the funniest kdrama series i would ever watch.. So she got me there as i want to check if she is right and guess what? she is totally correct!

    image.png source

The series Mr Queen is about a great chef in the modern world who had an accident by falling into a swimming pool and hit his head on the floor of the pool the same time a queen-to-be in the joseon era also committed suicide by drowning herself in a lake and somehow the soul of the great chef entered the queen's body....

Imagine having an accident and waking up in someone else body, this is not even the most painful thing, the real issue is that he was trapped in the body of a woman.. uhm you must be wondering why this is a painful thing so let us get to know this great chef favorite hobby....

The modern chef is a womaniser who loves to flirt with ladies a lot, so waking up in a woman's body was not so pleasing and the first thing he checked was is if thing was still there but sadly it is gone lol....

His way of thinking and life is totally different so he end up confusing everyone in the palace with his eccentric and weird behavior, one more thing is whatever he does there now will always seems new to the people since he is from the future...

He used his cooking skills to win the heart of the grand queen dowager. The real owner of the body was very mean to people in the palace but when the body was possess by the chef, everything changes......

There is a lot of secret to be revealed, the king is not who he pretend to be, the real queen also has her own secret and so many schemes going on in the palace....

This is still the most funny film i watch this year and the lady that acted as the queen played her role well.... If you need a good laugh, this film is a good source of laughter...

  4. 2 Lessons From K-drama, Mr Queen@nnurdiani1532d
Hi everybody. How are you? I hope you're okay. I'm very happy right now. Because I will get a very long vacation. Before going back to Bandung, I want to go around Jakarta first. By the way, I want to tell you about the k-dramas that I like. This drama is set in a kingdom in South Korea. Actually, I don't like royal or historical drama backgrounds. But, this drama is different, packed in comedy and fantasy.

The name of this drama is Mr Queen in December 2020 which has 20 episodes. From the beginning of the drama to the end of the drama, I was made to laugh. The play is very entertaining. And made me learn about history. Honestly, I don't really like history. I had a hard time memorizing it, but with drama packed with comedy, I became ready to read history. Even though it is packed with comedy and the historical background of the South Korean empire, this drama also has a comedy fantasy genre. I have to deal with two thumbs up for this scriptwriter.

    Synopsis

The drama starts with the youngest chef named Jang Bong Hwan (starring Choi Jin-hyuk) who becomes the chef at the Blue House. For him, cooking is politics. This drama tells that jang bong hwan has the most amazing cooking skills. In fact, he is very confident when he presents his best food for the South Korean food minister. But, one day, his cooking became a disaster. There is a kind of fishing rod in the food served to officials in South Korea.

That makes jang bong hwan hunted by government guards. Jang bong hwan fell in the pool. Because he jumped from the third floor, Jang bong hwan's head hit the bottom of the swimming pool. It took him to another dimension, namely in the Joseon dynasty. When chef jang bong hwan wakes up, he realizes that his surroundings are so strange. Likewise with his body that feels different. Chef jang bong hwan's soul is in the body of a queen in the joseon dynasty. It was hard for him to believe. While in the Joseon dynasty, Queen Cheorin Kim So Yong (starring Shin Hye Sun) plunged into the palace pool.

As a result he had to be unconscious for 2 days. The whole kingdom considers Queen Kim So Yong to be dead. The story becomes a comedy because of the exchange of souls between chef jang bong hwan and queen Kim so yong. Even though he is already a queen, chef jang bong hwan can't get rid of his masculine nature. Queen acts like a man. Starting with walking, the language is quite rough and happens spontaneously. It made the guards feel strange.

Studying the History of the Joseon Dynasty: King Cheoljong

I learned a lot from this drama. I try to read history. King Cheoljong was the 25th king of the Joseon dynasty who ruled for 14 years. His reign is considered the most chaotic of all. The result of collusion, corruption and nepotism in the royal family. It is explained in this drama that the marriage of king cheoljong and queen cheorin is to strengthen the position of the Kim clan in the kingdom. Because both (the king and queen) are from the Kim clan.

It is also explained in this drama that the king fell in love with the concubine Jo Hwa-jin. But Concubine Jo Hwa-Jin realized that her marriage did not have the power to get involved in royal politics. King cheoljong fell in love with concubine Jo hwa-jin, but control of the kingdom was in the hands of the Empress Dowager, mother of king cheoljong. This situation is clearly seen in every part of this drama. A number of ministers in the kingdom always consult with the Queen Mother before making decisions in the kingdom. So, the King would not want to accept the decision.

In the story it is said that King Cheoljong was illiterate. It made it easy for the Kim clan family to manipulate the king. The drama tells that King Cheoljong comes from a poor family who has been exiled on Ganghwa Island. Even so, King Cheoljong is a descendant of Prince Sado. All this history is packed with comedy, I can learn it easily.

    Impressions of this Drama

I didn't have high hopes for this drama. I am quite amazed by writers who connect comedy and fantasy with royalty in the Joseon dynasty. fantasy effect obtained from the body swap between Chef Jang and Queen Kim So Yong. For me, soul swapping is something that is hard to believe right now. Moreover, the exchange of souls occurs with different sexes, namely between men and women. This exchange of souls turns difficult historical stories into fun comedies. I love this drama. I admit, if shin hye sun plays a very good role in the character of men who live in the present.

    Lessons learned from this drama

There are several important elements in this drama. Lesson one, it's good to know nothing. For some people, sometimes for me too. I am always curious about the latest things around me. Maybe also about gossip. Learn from this drama, because there is an exchange of souls between the chef and the queen, so the chef cannot give an example of the true nature of the cheorin queen. If Chef Jang finds out about the queen's behavior, maybe Chef Jang won't be able to return to his original body. Chef jang bong hwan didn't even try to find out. Chef jang bong hwan, continues to live his life trapped inside the queen's body. Slowly, the memory of queen cheorin returned. Chef jang bong hwan feels the queen's memory returning. This is a good sign, between the queen's body and Chef's body to be able to return to their respective bodies. The second lesson, keep trying and face the situation. In this story, chef jang bong hwan accepts his condition in the queen's body.

Chef jang bong hwan has a mission to return to his body. All the ways he has, including losing the water in the pond when the queen fell. On his way, chef jang bong hwan who is trapped in the queen's body tries to learn about the state of the kingdom. Including royal politics. Even the chef who cooks the palace food so that the king is not overthrown by the government. Chef jang also tries to get into the king's love story. The thing that made me laugh was when the queen did her first night. Chef jang feels a little strange because he can fall in love with the king. Although the body of a woman but the soul of the Queen is a man. I laughed a lot in this drama.

  5. The brilliantly funny Mr. Queen and being isekaid as a woman@maverickinvictus1615d

I finally had the chance to watch Mr. Queen as I waited for it be in Netflix but we got a subscription with VIU and the series was there.

One of the first reasons why I wanted to watch it was because of the actress Shin Hye-sun. I first saw her in She was Pretty where she was a side character who didn't have a lot of screen time and then next in The legend of the blue sea where she played another minor role but had more lines.

Her breakout role is said to be in My Golden Life but I haven't watched that but is on my list. Then she was in Still 17 which I love as she played a person who woke up from a long coma after a decade when everything in her life has changed. It was funny and emotional at the same time.

Then there was Angel's Last Mission: Love where she played a ballerina who became blind. Again it had funny moments but the emotional scenes were she really shined.

So knowing that she was in Mr. Queen I knew she would do well even if she had apprehensions about the role as it was really more on the comedy side and she was more known as a serious actress.

The premise of the movie is he is a chef who was working in the Blue House (think the White House in the US or Malacanang in the Philippines)

He is a man's man. He is vain, sleeps around, and is very confident in his looks and skills.

An accident happens and he ends up in the water where he sees another person and it fades to black.

He wakes up being transported to the past during the time of kings and queens of the Joseon period of Korea. Not only that he goes back to the past but he is stuck inside the body of a woman and not just any woman but the destined bride of the king thus why it is called Mr. Queen.

Hilarity ensues as he/she bemoans her predicament. We will now use the female gender because physically she is a woman.

It is so funny that she still has some of his quirks and desires as a man but is trapped in the body of a woman.

She is uncouth, rough and always running around to the chagrin of her maids and court ladies. She is so far from what is normal and I just love it as she is upfront and confident.

The first meeting with the king is hilarious and she goes on "terrorizing" people on her behavior and confidence.

Being a chef is a huge part of her personality and she sets her eyes in the Royal Kitchen and by extension the Royal Chef who is dumbfounded and amazed at the same time by her skills and personality.

Her use of modern cuisine techniques and knowledge of ingredients is a delight to watch as episodes become food porn as she chops, cooks, and plates each dish.

Since coming from the future and seemingly able to remember a lot about history she knows the fate of the king.

This was another paradox that I was thinking as how would she shape things. She could easily influence and talk about what would happen and any changes would have a ripple effect on the future.

I remember the Back to the Future series and how Doc Brown would always tell Marty to not do anything that might affect the past or the future.

This is the same thing tackled on Avenges Endgame and Doctor Strange as they touch on creating changes and splits that could affect the multiverse and timelines.

So I was looking forward to how the ramifications of changing the future would be addressed in the show.

The minor charactes while was not as deep as other series like Hometown Chacha or Crash landing on you were still memorable and you wanted to root for them as well.

All in all it was a fun series to watch as you laugh from one episode to the next.

Definitely, a much-recommended series if you want to laugh out loud.

  6. Travelgirl’s K Drama Review - Mr Queen@travelgirl1866d

    Hi Everyone,

Recently a friend recommended a Korean drama they have seen called Mr Queen. I normally prefer to watch drama when most of the episodes are out so I can sit there for a few days and finish it off. Mr Queen was released end of 2021 finishing up in 2022 where they had one of the highest rating under the cable TV category in recent years. One of the reasons why I got onto the series is because of Kim Jung-hyun who recently had a scandal where his ex girlfriend also in the entertainment industry has forbid him filming intimate scenes with the female leads. As a male lead, this is extremely hard in many Korean drama therefore I was curious to see who he was. The Shin Hye-sun I’ve never really liked but after this series, I will probably follow her up and coming drama as you can see there have been great improvement to her acting.

The drama started off when Choi Jin-hyuk who is a top chef in the country found himself in the body of Queen Cheorin in the Joseon period. Not only he has become a woman with male thoughts, he was Queen of the country. Of course that didn’t sit well with him and he desire to get back to the modern world was strong. Queen Cheorin only had the memory of the chef back in modern days so the story starts off where people find the Queen strange, weird as it is not the usual Queen they know. Queen Cheorin with the brain of the modern world, soon figures out history ahead of time and would try to aid the King to achieve what is needed for the local community.

The series is successful in my opinion is because the female lead was very open to make this believable to us viewers. The moment the male chef got into her body, she really acted like what a male would do in moderns days in the Joseon period setting. From finding out he had breasts, need to squat when going to the toilet, getting hair and makeup done each more etc, you wonder what he was thinking every moment of the episode. The reactions, the acceptance and the trust formed by the supporting actors and actresses makes the drama complete. There are parts of the drama you would smile one second, and tears the next.

The other thing to note are the soundtrack used in the series. What I love about Korean drama is they always use the right music for the right moment and many of these music from the past are all original for the drama. The songs in Mr Queen is no exception and have really made the drama complete. When most of the songs in the drama is soft, calming, and soothing, the ending song is a fast upbeat song which changes the audiences mood instantly. If you have 4-5 days spare, do check out this series. With 20 episodes over 80 mins each, you will definitely need to get comfortable to start your journey back to the Joseon period.
