Driven by situations from my real life, I wanted to see this movie and was pleasantly pleased with its entire production, not knowing that it was the story of Nellie Bly, a woman unknown to me at the time, I was shocked by the twists and turns of the story and the reasons Nellie Bly had to undergo such a dangerous experience. Plot

In the frozen city of New York a woman appears wandering the streets without memory, she is young and seems to be middle class, in a state of shock she is admitted to a mental health institute, colloquially known as an asylum, there she is told that she will be there until she recovers her memory or until a family member appears to look for her, So she is admitted taking away her belongings, including clothes and personal items, curiously this woman was carrying a kind of agenda, but everything was taken from her, the admission is so hard that gives the viewer a taste of what will be the whole story. With an uncomfortable welcome, they explain the rules and routine of the place.

Once inside she realizes that many of the women are not mentally ill, they just have depression or are simply immigrants who do not know the language, from the beginning Nellie is very intelligent and capable, she also expresses her discomfort at the injustices done to her companions, but also stays away to avoid the atrocious punishments they were given, all she wants is to recover her memory or be rescued by someone. While that is happening, she receives consultations with a doctor who at first seems to be her only friend.

This doctor gives her tools so that she can recover her memory, but no matter how hard she tries she cannot. As the days went by she observed events out of the ordinary, both the nurses, who were more security guards than anything else, and the director, were evil women who enjoyed making the helpless suffer. Violent scenes, invasion of a woman's physical and intimate space began to unfold and I felt more and more anguished, I felt suffocated as I watched all that suffering.

Nellie is getting sicker every day, malnourished, disheveled and begins to look like the other inmates, even copying patterns of behavior and uncontrolled reactions. Her doctor begins to seduce her and hides information to prevent Nellie from being able to leave, but makes her believe he is helping her. As I watch the movie I think everyone is crazy, no one is saved, even Nellie herself. At this part I don't know what is true or lie anymore, a good plot twist.

They show really hard things, I have tried to avoid any kind of spoiler and to advance would be to give interesting details of everything, if you want to know if she came out well or not from the asylum and what she discovered I invite you to see this movie that besides being fascinating for the interpretative quality of the actors tells a true story that happened in the early nineteenth century.

Con una incómoda bienvenida, les explican las normas y la rutina del lugar. > > Estando adentro se percata que muchas de las mujeres no son enfermas mentales, solo tienen depresión o simplemente son inmigrantes que no conocen el idioma, desde el principio Nellie se muestra muy inteligente y capaz, además expresa su incomodidad ante injusticias hechas a sus compañeras, pero también se mantiene al margen para evitar los castigos atroces que les daban, todo lo que desea es recuperar su memoria o ser rescatada por alguien. Mientras eso sucede, recibe consultas con un doctor que al principio parece ser su único amigo. > > Este médico le da herramientas para que ella pueda recuperar su memoria, pero por más que se esfuerza no puede. Al pasar los días observaba hechos fuera de lo normal, tanto las enfermeras, que eran más guardias de seguridad que otra cosa, como la directora, eran mujeres malvadas que disfrutaban al hacer sufrir a las indefensas. Escenas violentas, invasión del espacio físico e íntimo de una mujer se empiezan a develar y yo me voy sintiendo cada vez más angustiosa, me sentía asfixiada mientras veía todo ese sufrimiento. > > Nellie cada día está más enferma, mal alimentada, desaliñada y comienza a verse como las demás internas, incluso copiando patrones de conducta y reacciones sin control. Su doctor comienza a seducirla y esconde información para evitar que Nellie pueda salir, pero le hace creer que la ayuda. Mientras veo la película creo que todos están locos, nadie se salva, incluso la misma Nellie. En esta parte ya no sé qué es verdad o mentira, un buen giro de la trama. > > Muestran cosas realmente duras, he tratado de evitar cualquier tipo de espóiler y avanzar sería darle detalles interesantes de todo, si deseas saber si ella salió bien o no del manicomio y lo que descubrió te invito a ver esta película que aparte de ser fascinante por la calidad interpretativa de los actores cuanta una historia real que sucedió a principios del siglo XIX.

Opinion

Nellie Bly was a journalist famous for creating several books including 10 days in the madhouse based on her personal experience that made her win great awards, she was also the first woman to circumnavigate the world in 62 days inspired by the novel 80 days around the world by Jules Verne (novel that now if I'm interested in reading), who also helped her by lending part of the logistics to achieve success.

After I finished watching this movie, I was so amazed by human curiosity and what we are capable of doing to follow our passion, I did a little research on the life of this woman and I was equally amazed.

The production was set in spaces in keeping with the story, showing cold and snowy forests, as well as a building that gave the impression of being a cold and dark space. The costumes gave emphasis to the characters and the makeup also stood out.

It is very sad to lose our sanity and it is so fragile that any traumatic event if not well managed can take it away, but sadder is that the mentally ill are treated in these health centers by people who have no humanity, it is easier to leave a prison reformed than cured from an asylum. Take care of your emotions and thoughts and do not turn your back on those beings who need you.

I recommend you to watch this movie, I didn't want to tell you too much so you can live the experience to the fullest.

El vestuario le dio énfasis a los personajes y el maquillaje también se destacó. > > Es muy triste perder la cordura y es tan frágil que cualquier evento traumático si no es bien manejado nos las puede quitar, pero más triste es, que los enfermos mentales son atendidos en estos centros de salud por personas que no tienen humanidad, es más fácil salir de una cárcel reformado que de un manicomio curado.
